Fredric Effects Releases BugBrand BugCrusher Stomp Box

via BugBrand:

"It has been a while since I made BugCrushers, but I'd still get emails asking for the old Micro version. These would always poke my brain and get me wondering - I knew I couldn't head back to pedal designs due to production methods, so instead I looked around for someone take it on themselves and that's where Tim of Fredric came in. I provided him a slightly updated design of the Micro/WorkshopCrusher and he's now brought it into production - so do please support him and buy direct!

Will I ever do another BIG BugCrusher version? I don't know for sure - I did try a couple of design attempts this year, but nothing quite stuck. It would be a good thing to have in the Red lineup though."

via Fredric Effects

"The BugCrusher is an Analogue Sample Rate Reducer - a Sample & Hold circuit run at audio rates - which produces aliasing effects on your signal.

With the Rate set high this imparts a clear fizzle & crunch, while at low rates any high frequencies will seem to wrap-around in an effect somewhat akin to a clean ring-mod.

Despite the name, the BugCrusher is not an actual BitCrusher - most BitCrusher effects will have Sample Rate (x-axis quantization) and Bit Depth (y-axis quantization) and are typically digital in nature.

Tom Bugs, the creator, says 'Back when I was making BugCrushers, they were well liked for processing synths & drum machines, but the effect also has found favour with bassists as the low frequencies can pass through cleanly while the highs are crunched'."

BugBrand StereoCompress Back in Production

via BugBrand

"Finally I have the StereoCompress back in production with the first new batch released today.

Over the year since it was last available I've had people regularly asking for it - it is, after all, a very high quality master compressor with interesting features and a great sound - but I spent a good while investigating whether I could have the design fully built for me. In the end life has proved a bit too much of a juggle right now to take such a step, but I still learned a fair bit in the process. So I'm doing this again like all my other designs - having the PCBs & SMD work done externally and then building the rest up myself.

Go here:::: http://bugbrand.co.uk/shop"

"The Stereo Compress (equal stress on the COM and the PRESS) further rounds out the line of red processors with a supreme quality stereo VCA compressor providing the proverbial sonic glue or adding a healthy dose of smash to your sounds. Happy gently coaxing the stereo bus or punching individual instruments into shape, the circuitry springs from a classic of British compression but entirely rebuilds the internals while combining several new twists, and is presented in a package that demands deep discovery within the realms of transient shaping.
The Stereo Compress is best considered in two parts - see block diagrams:

Audio Section -
The audio path is kept minimal with high quality components for low noise operation. The left and right channels are identical, each featuring Balanced Input Buffer, Compression VCA (2164 quad IC), Dry/Wet Blend VCAs (equal power crossfading for parallel compression) and Output Buffer. The unit can be used as a single mono compressor (use either left or right side) or ganged stereo, with the side-chain feeds being tapped post input buffer.

SideChain -
The SideChain signal is taken initially as an equal sum of left & right inputs, but this sum can either be externally processed using Send/Return loop, or a different signal can be inserted. The Insert point is followed by Low and High Cut filters (12dB/Oct) allowing frequency dependent compression.
The SideChain processing is arranged around a Feedback VCA stage and contains rectification, ratio setting (2:1, 4:1, 10:1), fully variable Attack and Release time constants, and wide range Threshold and Make Up Gain controls. A Gain Reduction meter shows how hard the unit is being driven and features internal LED indication to show when the unit is Active (low red glow for bypass, brighter white glow for active - Animated GIF of the Meter lights)."

VFE Pedals Klein Bottle multipath + multiband looper/mixer on Kickstarter

Published on Nov 21, 2017 Knobs

via Kickstarter where you'll find additional details.

"The Klein Bottle was designed for the noise makers, soundscape artists, endless tinkerers and tone wizards. This epic pedal starts by splitting the input signal into three FX loops. Each FX loop has dedicated controls for pre-gain, HPF/LPF (bandwidth filters), and main mix level. This allows you to send different parts of the signal to different effects, and blend them all back together to create new tones out of your existing pedals.

But wait, there's more! The magic happens when you use the independent feedback controls to send the signal from one FX loop into another...and then back again! Keep your existing tone intact with the DRY knob, while layering a cornucopia of sonic goodness on top."

Center Square Music Stereo CEM Filter Rack Modules Featuring Dual Curtis VCF CEM3328

via this auction

"These are single rack space modules consisting of a pair of 24db/oct low pass filters using Curtis CEM3328 synth filter chips. These are great sounding, musical filters with the special feature of consistent volume across resonance settings.

These modules have balanced/unbalanced inputs and unbalanced outputs. There are CV inputs for frequency and resonance on each channel, and a stereo link switch to have the knob settings from channel one operate channel 2 (the CV freq. input also carries over, but the res. CV control jack does not so you need to use a multiple if you want identical CV on the resonance input).

High-quality parts used through-out (Nichicon and Nippon caps, etc). These are professionally designed, assembled, and wired. Uses quality double-sided pcb's.

The only thing I would say is not professional quality are the control decals. I used water-slide decals so they will last and have a low profile, but they don't look nearly as good as proper screen printing or engraving methods in my opinion."

New Eventide H9000 to Support Max/MSP Patches?

Soviet Space Child sent in news of the new Eventide H9000 effects processor.

There's a rumor that it will support Max/MSP patches. Whether that means integration with an external computer running Max/MSP, or actually hosting them natively, we will have to wait and see.

via Eventide does hint at it up front:

"Hello! My name is Jack Impink. I am an electronic musician by trade, working with both gear and software. I like to use older equipment alongside programs like Max/MSP to see what kind of odd sounds will be produced. I’ve been working in the Eventide Labs beta testing the H9000, and I can’t wait to show you what I’ve been finding so far.

First and foremost, the big news: Eventide will be unveiling the H9000 at the 143rd AES Convention on October 18th, 2017! You may have seen some footage of the unit from a certain promotional video already, but in this blog we’ll be going a little deeper. Tune in to see what features we’re working on and any hidden gems that I discover along the way.

Oakley Introduces the SRE330 - Enhanced Stereo Ensemble and Chorus Module

via Oakley where you'll find additional details.

"The Oakley SRE330 is a multi mode stereo ensemble unit designed to mimic the behaviour of the multichannel chorus and ensemble units of late 1970s and early 1980s. The SRE330 uses up to four channels of bucket brigade delay (BBD) lines and up to four voltage controlled low frequency oscillators (LFO) to achieve a sound reminiscent of various types of string machines, guitar chorus pedals and studio rack effects of yesteryear.

Unlike the original devices the SRE330 allows greater control over the modulation depths, speeds and waveforms, as well as featuring a wet/dry control. Input and output level control pots are also provided to allow maximum flexibility in dealing with a variety of input signal levels. Both the stereo input and output connections are balanced but can be used with unbalanced connections if desired.

The unit features classic companding noise reduction circuitry which keeps unwanted noise levels to an acceptable level while also adding a 'vintage' sound of its own. A four LED level meter helps you keep signal levels at optimum ensuring a good noise to signal ratio without clipping."

Landscape - Stereo Field

via Landscape:

"STEREO FIELD is one instrument with three uses. It is simultaneously a stereo/quad modular touch plate synthesizer, a stereo/quad audio processor and a pressure sensitive chaotic CV controller. All three uses are available separately as well as simultaneously and in conversation with each other. The Stereo Field allows its user to manipulate and patch two analog stereo circuits via touch plates. By utilizing skin conductivity as new paths for current to follow you are creating new circuits and new sounds in relation to where your fingers are patching. The individual touch plates are directly connected to nearly every connection point of every component in its circuitry (located directly under each corresponding touch plate). When touched with multiple fingers it will create atonal analog synthesized audio with either of the two mirrored circuits represented by interlocking touch-plate circles. These parallel mirrored circuits can be finger patched separately or together yielding vastly different results in regards to texture, timbre and stereo imaging. This instrument has the ability to create atonal synth tones in stereo (and quad) as well as process incoming stereo audio (and quad) sources via 1/4" and 3.5mm ins and outs. Incoming audio sources can be "patched" or rewoven into any area of either or both of the circuits via skin contact. The two stereo input volume knobs (center) shape and effect distortion, drive amounts, internal feedback pitch, and modulation rates depending on how your fingers are patching. The quad inputs and outputs via the 3.5mm jacks have small touch plates leading to and from allowing for touch access of each of the 4 inputs and 4 outputs. If multiple audio signals are traveling into the Stereo Field these audio sources can be intermingled and can modulate one another, again depending upon where your fingers are patching. Sending CV signals into the 3.5mm input jacks will open up many more possibilities both in terms of synthesized sounds and audio processing. The Stereo Field can also be used as a controlled chaos source when using the 3.5mm outputs to send CV to your modular system. Due to the nature of feedback and finger patching the 4 available CV signals have the ability to get incredibly complex and textured in nature (see audio examples below in use with a euro-rack system). Because of the open nature of Stereo Field it can both send and receive CV modulation simultaneously. In addition, this can all be happening while your finger patching is changing and altering the incoming and outgoing CV while also processing incoming audio. These ins and outs can also be patched together with cables for sustained tones with the pitch/rhythm/volume/"cutoff" being affected by adjusting the incoming and outgoing volume knobs in various settings. Inter-patching in this way will also allow for sustained pulse beats and filter-esk sound shaping in addition to bringing new results to finger patching via the touch plates. Most importantly, processed audio and synthesized audio are available simultaneously with the ability to influence and modulate each other. This will often blur the lines between the two; who is manipulating who? who comes out on top as audio and who is modulation? This can be a constantly evolving cycle based upon where the performers fingers are placed and highly sensitive skin contact pressure changes.

Amalgame Multi-Effect Plugin - Streamlined Complex Signal Processor

This one was sent my way via Atomic Shadow.

"Amalgame is a multi-effect plugin that aims to streamline the creation of complex signal processing chains. Offering an intuitive workflow with all the functions easily accessible and logically laid out, Amalgame makes mutating sounds beyond recognition a breeze.

Amalgame provides a library of 23 effects ranging from bread and butter filters and delays to more esoteric and glitchy processors, which are always accessible and ready to be dropped on 6 XY pads where their key parameters are mapped to each axis.

The X and Y parameters of each pad can be sequenced from within the plugin with independent rate and length for each sequence giving you the opportunity to create insanely complex modulations in a few clicks.

And for an instant creativity boost, a versatile randomizer lets you alter the parameters, sequences and effect selections of any slot, or even regenerate the whole processing chain at the press of a button."

New Analogue Solutions Hyde Modulating Filter Desktop Unit

Some pics via John Walker on The MATRIXSYNTH Lounge

You can see it at 7:25 in the Fusebox video here. It's part of a line-up of new "synth blocks". A mono synth with Curtis filters is in the works.

And some details via liquid sky berlin via Analogue Sulutions:

"Mr Hyde is the first in a new series of ‘synthBlocks’.

These are small table top effects processor, and later synthesisers and sequencers. Designed by renowned UK synth designers Analogue Solutions who have over 24 years in the industry. Mr Hyde is an analogue filter effects box use for subtle to extreme filtering and modulation effects.

SynthBlocks are used to process any sound that you feed into it from your DAW, Mixer or some musical instrument (with prior pre-amplification where necessary).

To give your plug-ins some real analogue hardware life. Mr Hyde has 1/4” input and output jacks on the rear, so it can be connector straight to a mixer or DAW audio interface without the need for adaptors. On the top panel are mini jack sockets to patch with a semi-modular synth, such as AS’s very own Fusebox, or to Eurorack and other modular systems.

Mr Hyde can change the sound in subtle ways, such as nice sweeping filtering, right up to mangled FM mayhem!

Designed, engineered, and hand built in England.

Further synthBlocks are already in development including
Dr. Strangelove, who will be with us soon!
Spec - Multimode 12db analogue filter, featuring Low pass, High pass, Band pass, and Notch filters. Resonance with Boost feature to make it self oscillator. LFO with Triangle and Square wave signals. Range switch, to bring the modulation speed into audio frequencies. 1/4” and mini jack sockets for audio / CV input and output. Small compact desktop site format. Will fit into your palm!

Of Course: Exceptional build quality - Analogue Solutions style!
