New WaveReX Expansion Card for the Korg M1 Allows Loading of Custom Waveforms

WaveReX - Waveform Refill eXpansion for Korg M1 - Demo

Published on May 31, 2018 WaveReX

"This short demonstrations shows you how the WaveReX works and how easy it is to load almost every sample you want into your beloved M1.

WaveReX extension does not require a reconstruction of the synthesizer, has the same form as the own PCM cards and can very simply be placed in the ROM-slot of the M1. A total of 512 kByte are available for your own samples, exactly as the original cards.

It emulates and copies PCM cards – or enables you to create your own.

The sounds/waveforms of the following devices are available:
• DSS-1 / DSM-1 DWGS
• DW-8000 DWGS
• MS-2000 DWGS
• all sounds of the T-series

This card is still a full working beta model. The RC1 will be released in July 2018 and of course it'll be in a plastic case (we're working on it).
Finally, truly fresh sounds can be created using your new born Korg M1.

The Software is WIN - a version for Mac OSX is planned!

Take your M1 to the 21th century and visit www.waverex.de"

via WaveReX where you can find additional details:

"With WaveReX it is possible to create your own PCM cards on the computer (samples, multisounds, drumsounds), and use it on your M1. You can load your cards via USB from computer to the WaveReX."

"There is no doubt about it: the M1 truly changed the world of synthesizers! With its completely new sounds which have never been heard before, it has changed not only a whole music scene, but probably shaped the entire decade of the 90s. With approximately 250k sold synthesizers, it marked a milestone in the music and synthesizer history. 30 years have passed since KORG has released its prototype 731 at NAMM in 1988. Shortly after this release, the M1 Music Workstation has been introduced. Thankfully and reverently we, the M1-Fans, would like to say HAPPY BIRTHDAY.

30 years later: The waiting has finally come to an end

Is it possible to link the M1 to the concepts and technologies of the 21st century such that the unique sounds can be preserved in future?

We say: Yes! …and made the almost impossible possible!

With WaveReX we made it possible to load own samples and waveforms into M1! WaveReX is an external card which, similar to the regular PCM cards, is inserted into the PCM DATA slot. Own samples can then be loaded in M1 to create own multisounds or drumsets. This enables you to explore entirely new sound dimensions. Limitations to internal waveforms or PCM-cards have finally been overcome.

No matter if you work with PCM-samples or Single Cycle Waveforms (DWGS) – all is possible! Simply compile a card on your PC and load it via USB on the card.

You want waveforms from Kawai K1, K4 or 5000 in your M1? No problem. You want synthesis and Waves à la PPG? Waveforms of analog classics (Moog, Roland etc.?).

Then the WaveReX is your solution! The WaveRex-Board is not just a sampler as AKAI or E-MU, but should enrich the possibilities of synthesis. The foundations have been laid in 1988. In 2018, the time has come to fully exploit the potential of M1 for the first time in history.

The WaveReX-Team"

Audiowerkstatt Introduces the trigger2midi2trigger v2

via Audiowerkstatt

"The audiowerkstatt trigger2midi2trigger v2 converts analog trigger-clock-signals to MIDI-clock-signals and vice versa.

It can also be used as an analog trigger-tool.

If used as trigger-clock-to-MIDI-clock-converter or MIDI-clock-to-trigger-clock-converter, there is always a MIDI-clock-signal (incl. start/stop) sent at the "midi out"-jack. At the tip of the "clock"-phone-jack, an analog trigger-clock-signal (v-trigger: 0v/5v, s-trigger "open"/"closed") is sent. The tip of the "start/stop"-phone-jack is 5v while the masterclock is running and 0v while the masterclock is paused for v-trigger and "closed" while the masterclock is running and "open" while the masterclock is paused, if s-trigger is used.
A clock-source can be connected to the "midi in"-jack or to the ring of the "clock"- and "start/stop"-phone-jack.

Normal insert-cables can be used to connect the analog inputs/outputs. If only the analog outputs are used, normal phone-jack-cables (mono or stereo) can be used.

Rebel Technology Introduces the Magus, Wizard, & Alchemist on Kickstarter

Magus Modular Synthesizer Toolkit 2018 Published on Apr 5, 2018

"Algorithms are modern day magic spells. Add magic to your music with the Magus, a patchable, programmable synthesizer toolkit."

Magus KickBox Demo Published on Apr 4, 2018 Rebel Technology

"KickBox is a groovebox patch running on the Magus synthesizer toolkit. It makes a beat with hats and a kick, and adds a virtual analogue subtractive synth voice with a killer 8-pole resonant low pass filter.

Realtime parameter tweaking and 24 analogue patch points give you complete creative control over how the sound is produced."

Wizard PolySub Demo Published on Apr 4, 2018 Rebel Technology

"PolySub is a polyphonic subtractive synth patch running on the Wizard. PolySub has 8 voices true polyphony with virtual analogue oscillators, waveshape and PWM morph, 8-pole resonant filter and ADSR envelopes.
In this demo it is sequenced with the CV and gate outputs of a Korg SQ-1 but it can also be played by connecting a MIDI device."

Alchemist Ping Pong Delay Demo Published on Apr 4, 2018 Rebel Technology

"Ping Pong Delay running on Alchemist, synchronised to the trigger output of a TR808 drum machine. The trigger keeps all the beats tight and allows the delay to bounce anything from 16th notes and triplets to full bars around the stereo space."

Check out the KickStarter here: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/...

"The Magus, Wizard and Alchemist are all built on the Rebel Technology OpenWare firmware and can run the same patch programs as two of our existing products: the OWL Pedal and OWL Modular. This means that our entire library of more than 200 patch programs is ready to use right now!"

Magus Synthesizer Toolkit Prototype

"Algorithms are the magic potions and spells of the modern day. In electronic music, they make the wooshes, booms, squeals, screams and bops that might have us contemplate the universe, reach personal insight, or dance like mad for days on end. Join us on a journey to create ever more powerful algorithms, and to make them open and available to everyone. We already have a community of hundreds of talented synthesists sharing their work. Let's make it bigger, let's make it better, let's do it together!

The Magus is like having a compact modular synthesizer without being limited by the modules you've got in it.

Unlike traditional synthesizers, the Magus doesn't confine itself to a fixed function or paradigm. Whether you want granular, additive, FM, subtractive, spectral, chaotic or stochastic synthesis, Magus gives you the freedom to pick the right algorithm for the job and then lets you loose to patch up a storm.

Enjoy the creative power of a hardware synthesizer with the flexibility of audio plugins.

If our existing library of algorithms doesn't do it for you, you can even create your own, for truly unbounded creative freedom. And you can use any one of more than two hundred patches from our library as a starting point. Patches can be authored in Max Gen, Pure data, FAUST or C++, giving you an impressive range of powerful musical programming tools to choose from."

Wizard Minisynth Prototype

"The Magus' little brother is the Wizard. It runs the same patches and is also patchable as well as programmable. This means that you can change the signal flow on the fly and connect it to other kit. It is incredibly compact but still sports five assignable control knobs and four buttons, and a total of six patch points. Like the Magus it has both USB MIDI device and host connections so that you can plug your favourite controller straight in - be it keyboard, drum pads, sequencer, grid, or multidimensional controller. It makes an excellent stand-alone synth or effects unit and has huge integration capabilities."

Alchemist Microsynth Prototype

"The Alchemist is the baby of the family, but it packs a powerful punch. With four knobs, two trigger buttons, one mode button and trigger and CV inputs it amazingly still fits in your hand.

All three devices have a USB socket and can be powered by USB or by an external DC supply."

Melodizer - Random Melody Generator

Published on Mar 21, 2018 Damien Quartz

"An audio/visual demo of Melodizer, an analog sequencer inspired audio app and plugin that randomly generates melodies.

Melodizer will be available for free at https://damikyu.itch.io/melodizer"

"Melodizer works like an analog sequencer where each step in the sequence is controlled by a column of knobs. However, rather than having a Pitch and Gate knob for each step, Melodizer's main knob is Probability. At each step you can control the probability that it will play a note when that step is activated. The actual pitch played will depend on the chosen Key, Scale, Octave, and Range. At each step you can also control how the note is panned, set the velocity, and shape the amplitude envelope of the note using ADSR knobs (attack, decay, sustain, release).

Melodizer will play notes using a built-in oscillator and effects, but also sends MIDI note messages so that you can use it to drive any soft-synth you already own. Any MIDI notes received by Melodizer will be used to change the Key and Octave or, in the case of the Fingered Scale, will be used as the pool of notes to choose from."

Key Control - MIDI Mapping for Key and Scale by Artificial Noise

Published on Mar 11, 2018 Artificial Noise

Artificial Noise are the people behind the LAB:1 Synthesizer and Cimmerian Caves.

"Artificial Noise is excited to announce, Key Control a MIDI device that maps your keyboard controller or synthesizer to a chosen Key and Scale. The white keys will play all the notes in the desired Key & Scale (removing all unused notes), while the black keys will play chords within the Key & Scale. Choose between 11 scales and all 12 keys.

Simply hook up the Key Control between your keyboard controller and your desired MIDI destination (computer, synthesizer, sequencer, etc) via standard 5-Pin MIDI DIN cables. Or put your synthesizer in "Local OFF" mode and send the MIDI out from your synth through the Key Control and back into the synth, to always play 'in key.'

With a fast and easy 2 knob interface, you can quickly dial in one of a possible 132 possible key and scale combinations and get down to making music fast and with no fuss.

In “Chromatic” mode, 127 MIDI notes are passed through unchanged, while the “Key” knob will transpose the incoming MIDI notes up to 11 semi-tones.

MIDI notes are changed depending on the Key & Scale chosen, but all other MIDI data passes through unchanged, with low latency and fast operation.

Great for musicians just starting out or for bands & songwriters who would like to add some keys to their songs.

Compact but tough aluminum case. Ships with 9v power supply.

For more information and how to order see:

KORG Officially Introduces the volca mix - ANALOGUE PERFORMANCE MIXER

Published on Jan 17, 2018 Korg

"An analogue performance mixer that completes your volca setup."

And a video from our new sponsor, Reverb.

Korg Volca Mix Analogue Performance Mixer | Reverb Demo Video

Published on Jan 17, 2018 Reverb

"Wondering how to flex your Korg muscles? Along with the release of its new Prologue polyphonic synthesizer, the company has announced the release of the Volca Mix, an “analogue performance mixer” that allows musicians to easily combine Volcas and other Korg instruments in live performance.

Buy on Reverb

Read more on Reverb

"volca mix is the long-awaited mixer for the volca series. The volca mix is a four-channel analogue performance mixer that lets you construct a live setup combining multiple volca units.

Volume faders are easy to control, plus crisp-sounding LO/HI CUT filters, and a master chain that radically transforms the sound. In addition to the sync function found on all volcas, there are also DC output connectors that can supply power for up to three volca units. Numerous functions to facilitate your on-stage volca performances have been packed into a high-quality aluminum-paneled body, reminiscent of a high-end DJ mixer.

The volca mix will unlock the maximum potential of the volca series.

An analog mixer for performance.

The volca mix is a four-channel analog mixer with an intuitive interface and plenty of connectivity. It provides two mono inputs and one stereo input, perfect for connecting three volca units. The jacks are mini-jacks, allowing you to make connections with just one stereo mini-cable from the headphone out of each volca unit. The channel volumes use vertical faders that allow precise control. The gain can be boosted to adjust the mix balance, and mute buttons are also provided. Each channel is also equipped with a LO/HI CUT filter that lets you control the low and high frequency ranges with a single knob. The pristine, natural-sounding filters that you expect from analog gear give you complete control over the character of your sound.
Output and monitor capabilities for use on stage, plus stereo speakers for maximum portability.

The output section provides RCA stereo line outputs to ensure stable connection. There’s a master volume with LED VU meter for adjusting the output level, as well as a headphone output that can be used simultaneously with the line output, providing a reliable monitoring environment on stage. Speakers are also built-in for excellent portability. The stereo speakers are placed at both sides of the front, and while compact, deliver SPL levels that are even greater than the built-in speakers on previous volca units.

Powerful effects and control.

Powerful master chain.

The volca mix is equipped with master effects powered by all-analog circuitry. In addition to an expander that broadens a mono source into a stereo sound image, there’s a dynamic range compressor that compresses the high-frequency range according to level changes of the low-frequency region, as well as a side chain effect that’s indispensable for dance music. Use these to dynamically vary the mix, adding a professional feel to live performances with the volca.
Connect an external effect unit for further variety.

The volca mix provides a stereo mini-jack send out and AUX in jack, and send level knobs for each channel. This allows you to use it with an external effect unit in a send/return connection. When used in conjunction with a unit such as the mini kaoss pad 2S, you can also enhance your live performances using standard effects such as reverb, delay, filter, and break. The AUX in jack can also be used as a stereo input channel for a fourth volca unit, an iOS app, or any other gadget, instrument, or device.
As the master of your volca live setup.

The volca mix features an analog sync out jack that can easily be connected to many pieces of KORG gear for tempo sync, and also a play button and tempo knob to control that sync signal. By using the volca mix as the sync master device of your live setup, you can easily enhance your live performance, such as simultaneously playing sequences from multiple synced units, and combining mute and volume control to create performances that use your volca units in even more ingenious ways.

DC out lets you use three volca units simultaneously.

Three VOLCA DC OUT jacks are provided, and by connecting the included DC-DC cables you can supply power for up to three volca units. Even when using multiple volca units on stage, you won’t need to bother with adapters or bring another power strip; just concentrate on your performance with a streamlined setup and breakdown.

A rich variety of included accessories.

The volca mix comes with AC adapter, DC-DC cables, and audio cables included. Right out of the box, you’ll be ready to put together a complete volca live setup."

Mason Self TRILLER Midi Pitch Controller

Published on Jan 1, 2018 Mason Self

"Triller is an alternative Midi Controller for sending pitch bend messages."

via Mason Self

"I'm very excited to share this project.

I've been curious about different approaches to designing MIDI controllers. For this first project, I'm focusing on harnessing pitch bend in a more flexible way than a pitch bend wheel, and a more fun way than - God forbid - the pencil tool in your DAW.

I've made a very small batch of Trillers and I'd love to share them with you. Since this is still a beta version, I'm asking $150 + shipping (that's cost of materials and a tiny bit extra for labor). I'm also asking that you go the distance with me and give me feedback to make the Triller even better. It's fully functional, but I have hunch that you can help me hone in the last 5-15% of the design / functionality / use.

Please watch this tutorial and make sure you understand the specs before purchasing. I do not think the Triller is for everyone, but could be an exciting new tool for some.

SPECS

Arduino based MIDI controller
5" x 3 3/16" x 3"
Communicates via USB
Bus or DC Powered
Can be used to control any soft or hardware synthesizer that speaks MIDI
Does not generate sound on it's own."
