burning road

video upload by junklight

"I find myself in quite an apocalyptic mood for this one.

I discovered Efrim Menuck has almost completely switched to electronics in recent years (checkout ALL HANDS_MAKE LIGHT) which has inspired me to chase that distorted guitar-y sound that I love with mine too. I recently acquired the WMD synchrodyne, which ironically was the first module I saw a YouTube demo of and made me realise I wanted my own euro rack system although I seem to have bought rather a lot of other modules first.... Anyway the synchrodyne is a wonderfully expressive beast, if a little wild at times, and the seaboard is a nice controller for it (even if it makes the tuning a little hit & miss). I added a theremin to my Make Noise Tape & Microsound Machine in case you are wondering why I'm waving my hand about. Also there is a ditto x4 looper on the floor you can't see in the video"

#Jamuary2022 | Day 19 | Endorphin.es Spaceship Jam

video upload by Cinematic Laboratory

"On day 16 I did a jam with Roli Blocks. Today I'll connect the Seaboard to the Shuttle Control for a dark triphop jam. Endorphin.es recently changed their panels to a more professional style, which means we have to say goodbye to the aliens, abducted cows, airplane terminology and space travel. Personally I loved those but I can understand Andreas and Julia like to take their brand to the next level. Love you guys, but I am going to dearly miss the alien with the Salvador Dali mustache. Fortunately, a new panel doesn't change the sound. It can still rip space apart and make wormholes."

#Jamuary2022 | Day 16 | #ROLI Blocks

video upload by Cinematic Laboratory

"I wanted to do this yesterday, but had to recharge the set. The ROLI Blocks is an innovative set of midi controllers with midi polyphonic expression and a super cool UI. You can use a very useful iPad app when you're on the move, and use the blocks as midi expressiion controllers in your DAW. With the right eurorack interface, you can also drive your modular patches with five dimensions of CV control. This video is about the Blocks, I'll try to connect it to the modular probably in the coming week. I am expecting the new Lumi Keys block in April.

I got this set way before I got into modular so it's not used very often. But #Jamuary2022 is a great excuse to jam with everything that's lying around."

#Jamuary2022 | Day 15 | 23:56:04

video upload by Cinematic Laboratory

"Today is about two things: 1) how can use and sync very long samples (e.g. a stem) to a clock in BitBox and 2) what's a day anyway. In the very long sample, Mike Degrasse Tyson explains how long a 24 hour day really is."

Moog Animoog Z, UNO Synth Pro - Friday Fun Synth Jam

video upload by sonicstate

"Moog recently released the new Animoog Z for iOS/ Mac OS - the new 8 slot wavetable synth is a freemium download ($9.99 to unlock for editing) and additional sound packs via the store.

We are running that on the M1 Macbook Pro (see review) as a desktop app and using the ROLI Seaboard Block plus a Novation LaunchControl to map a few CCs. Added to that is the IK Uno Synth Pro (see our review) and the Dreadbox Hypnosis FX (also reviewed).
We hope this encourages you to hook up a few items and just have a play."

Drawing a Synthesizer in MIDI - Live!

video upload by GLASYS

"I've been really enjoying making live MIDI art, so I thought it would be cool to try and draw one of my favorite things in the world - a synth! 😀

I tried to make it look 3D, and the biggest challenge was drawing the black keys - I had to get the timing of those notes just right, play them faster and faster and then reverse their direction. Hope you like the results!

The controller is Roli LUMI, the sound is my Sequential Prophet X layered with Steinberg Retrologue. My DAW is Cubase 10.

“AODYO Anima Phi - First Contact” by Friendly Noise

video upload by Friendly Noise

"Please make sure that your system can reproduce low frequencies correctly.

Video sections:
00:06 01 Modelling
01:10 02 Rumbling
02:53 03 Flutes
03:50 04 Percussive sequence 1
04:44 05 Percussive sequence 2
05:45 06 Analog-like
07:04 07 Piezo
08:08 08 Ambient
09:48 09 Bells
10:47 10 Robots

Anima Phi, by AODYO, is a brand new monophonic synthesizer with an interesting approach. It’s a acoustic modelling synthesizer with also analog modelling parameters and effects onboard. Modulations routing are great and they will be undoubtedly the key for many great sounding patches to come.

In this video you can see the first contact with Anima Phi. I wanted to use the Seaboard, but it outputs multiple controller data and the Seaboard needs some editing with the Dashboard in order to make a template which can get the most of Seaboard + Anima Phi. So that Seaboard video will come in the next weeks for sure.

Even with an standard keyboard like the Arturia Keystep, the quality and playability of the Anima Phi shines from the beginning to the end of the video."

MPE and Vintage Knob Support Update for the Sequential Prophet-6 and OB-6 Now Available

You might remember the beta OS announcement for MPE and vintage knob support posted here. The update is out of Beta and now available. via Sequential:

"Sequential has just released a new OS for the Prophet-6 and the OB-6 that adds much-anticipated features:

- Support for MPE (MIDI Polyphonic Expression). This enables the Prophet-6 and OB-6 to respond to MPE-driven controllers such as the LinnStrument®, Expressive E Osmose®, Roli Seaboard® series, and others.

- Prophet-5 Rev 4-style “vintage” mode. This gives the Prophet-6 and OB-6 a looser, more organic sound that emulates the behavior of vintage synthesizers where the behavior of individual oscillators, filters, and envelopes vary from voice to voice.

- Improved aftertouch curves for enhanced expressiveness when using the Prophet-6 and OB-6’s own keyboard.

- The new features significantly enhance the expressivity of both instruments.

We encourage you to try them out.

Anyma Phi: Sequenced using a groovebox & Roli Seaboard Rise 25

Aodyo Instruments

"In this demo, Romain sequences the Anyma Phi using a simple MC-303 groovebox.

All sounds are generated by the Anyma Phi, except for kick provided by the groovebox :
- a plucked string + a VA oscillator (bassline), going into filter, resonator and a little phaser
- a resonator plus delay
- an external input source (kick drum mixed into the Anyma Phi and passed through a filter + resonator)

NB: encoder response to be improved.

Demo and sound design by Romain Bricout.

Anyma Phi blends the classic ingredients of electronic music with physical modeling technology, allowing it to simulate acoustic sound sources, such as strings or reeds, as well as resonating structures, like wood, glass, or metal."

Anyma Phi: Played using a Roli Seaboard Rise 25

"In this demo, Romain plays the Anyma Phi using a Roli Seaboard Rise 25, directly plugged into the Anyma Phi USB port. He made a hybrid beefy bass patch made of physical modelling and virtual analog elements (VA oscillator and 24 dB/oct ladder filter).

Demo and sound design by Romain Bricout."

Thin Air - Genki Wave MIDI Ring vs. ROLI Equator2 Synth Performance

Nular Music

"In this video I used the Wave MIDI ring by Genki Instruments to control the parameters of ROLI's Equator2 synth plugin via hand gestures.

I've been fascinated by this form of expression since I first heard about Source Audio's Hot Hand ring and the Mi.Mu Gloves, but I couldn't see how I could integrate it into my workflow until now.

nularseq, the Max for Live sequencer I developed specifically for finger drumming turned out to work very well in this context: it allows me to trigger sequences of MIDI notes via tapping my fingers.

Equator2's deep modulation system allows me to control the sound exactly the way I want to. In this performance I used the pan gesture to blend between two oscillators, the tilt gesture to control filter cutoff and scan through a wavetable and the roll gesture to control delay feedback, unison detune and various other parameters.

It's a pretty amazing experience to be able to trigger notes and control various aspects of the sound completely untethered, and I can see a lot of creative uses of this technology. Don't panic, I don't intend to ditch my Launchpad anytime soon =), but expect more videos exploring this form of expression from me soon."

Aquifex - Roli Equator 2 MPE live jams with multi-looper

"Demos of new Equator 2 with only MPE patches - played live into a multi-looper and mixed live while playing another part to a stereo recorder - I ran out of loops. :-) The live nature give rise to mistakes and a human feel... I upgraded my Roli Equator app to v.2 during CyberWeek and was inspired to make a couple of “soundtracky” demos with only Equator 2 MPE patches. In case you didn't know, Equator 1 and 2 have non-MPE patches of you need them."
