Lego Synthesizer No. 1- The Photon Blaster
video by Moon Armada
"The Photon Blaster: a rhythmic-noise generator that is played by shining strobing LED's into and away from a pair of light-sensors.
Each LED has controls for the speed and shape of the strobe. The LED's and sensors can be moved around to control the response. There is also a pair of CV inputs for controlling the LED's externally.
There are also additional controls for changing timbral and rhythmic aspects of the sounds.
The entire enclosure and and controls (including buttons and knobs) are constructed from Lego bricks.

TAMBURO MECCANICO XXI - LIVE JAM [Pattern#2]
Published on May 25, 2019 Opificio Sonico
"Hi everyone 🖖🏻! in this video the second pattern created during a live-jam in studio, using my stepsequencer made out of #LEGO #technic "TAMBURO MECCANICO XXI" *.
Actually it's the same rhythmic pattern of the first video, but I've try to create a minimalist #ambient tune based on 6 notes ( 2 are modulated by fiscally changing the trigger input)
simply by slow down the speed and addressing the 4 tracks to a tuned electronic percussion module.
The effects and the bassline made the rest ;)
The performance was recorded in May 2019.
PATTERN#2 rig: Clavia NORD DRUM2 (Tuned percussion), Korg Kaosspad mini (Modulated FX), TCelectronics Hall of Fame (Reverb), ElectroHarmonix EHX Mini-synthesizer), Alesis Philtre (LFO digital Filter) LEGO Technic (Mechanical sequencer)"

"Hi folks🖖🏻! In this video the first of a new series of live-electronics jam using my #stepsequencer made out of #LEGO #technic "TAMBURO MECCANICO XXI".
It consists of a four tracks rhythm machine which mechanically generates the electric impulses needed to trigger the drum synth and the bass-line sync.
( [posted here] )
On the 500th anniversary of Leonardo da Vinci's death, this is my personal tribute to his genius who in the late 1400s introduced "tamburo meccanico" the first known automated musical instrument.
PATTERN#1 rig: Clavia NORD DRUM2 (HH and Kick), Korg Kaossilator (Bass), Korg Kaosspad mini (Delay), TCelectronics Hall of Fame (Reverb), Roland JX3P+PG200 (Chords) , AMDEK PCK100 (Elect. Percussion), BOSS HC-2 (Hand Clapper), LEGO Technic (Mechanical sequencer)"

TAMBURO MECCANICO XXI - [Electro-mechanical rhythm machine]
Published on Feb 20, 2019 Opificio Sonico
"Hello everyone, In this video is shown my latest artwork made out of #LEGO TECHNIC inspired by #Leonardo da Vinci's TAMBURO MECCANICO (mechanical drum).
It consists of a four tracks rhythm machine which mechanically generates the electric impulses needed to trigger the drum synth and the bass-line sync.
This is my personal tribute to Leonardo's genius who in the late 1400 introduced the first automated musical instrument and the concept of step #sequencer.
The nonlinearity of the system made in ABS, generates a sort of shuffle rhythm and some random ghost notes, which creates an unpredictable organic groove.
[This footage is taken from the first studio jam]
Enjoy! Giuseppe"

Unique Lego Cased Midibox MB-6582 SID Synthesizer w/ R2-D2s
Note: Auction links are affiliate links for which the site may be compensated.
via this auction
"This is a rare chance to get a MB6582 SID chip Synthesizer.
The MB6582 is an extraordinary DIY synthesizer based on SID chips known from the famous C64. More infos here:
The synth was assembled by me, works perfectly and is in a very good condition! It is a very unique *Lego Edition* - only one of it's kind!
Case and potentiometer knobs are made of Lego (suitable for SIDchip sound)
The display is in 'rusty-orange' and matches the orange flat-top LEDs.
This MB6582 is also expanded with a custom active mixer circuit (+/-12V supply). It has a main L/R out, volume-pot for each engine and a Stereo/Mono switch for each engine.
Single outputs are switched, i. e. if a single output is connected to a jack, the signal is not routed to the mixer (can be changed internally)
Following chips are built in at the moment:
4 SID 6582 (1x stereo engine and 2x mono engine at the moment)
3 cores (4th core included)
The MB6582 can be expanded to 4 stereo engines by adding another 4 SID chips (SID 6581 / 6582 / 8580 - beware 6581 needs different voltage set by jumpers internally). In stereo mode 2 SID chips are used for L/R channels seperately to generate more space! i.e. by controlling filter cutoff seperately for L/R channels.
This MB6582 requires a power supply which supplies +12v/+5V/-12V/GND. I built my own specific power supply around a MeanWell RPT-60/100kHz, it can operate from 90-264VAC.
Since I am not an electrician I have to ship my power supply dissassembled and buyer must reassemble it at his own risk! (it's a very easy process!)"

"Play House is an automata that generates slow hypnotic acid house through mechanisms built from LEGO Technic. This piece was made for AudioGraft 2014 with a commission from Oxford Contemporary Music.

Brothers On A Hotel Bed (Death Cab For Cutie) - Novation Circuit synth cover | Deerful
Published on Apr 30, 2017 Deerful
"I realised twelve years after everyone else did that Death Cab were amazing and obviously I had to cover them. Just voice and Circuit. Setup explanation under the cut!
I record sending a USB cardioid mic into Ableton, track muted; circuit into iRig Pro into Ableton, track soloed but very low volume so I can hear it enough to sing with but there's not much bleed into the mic (there's basically none here) and I can mix them separately. I don't like singing with headphones."

VGM #99: Adventure (Linelight) Chill Synth-Pop Cover
Published on Feb 7, 2017 Ace Waters
"I haven't seen much being said about Linelight in the video game world, which is a shame because its an absolutely stunning indie title that you should all go play. It's a very satisfying game, that makes you feel so good with the way it really uses its mechanics in such a fluid and intuitive way. The soundtrack is also super chill. Definitely don't overlook this game. Its on Steam and PS4!"

Toa Mata Band - Episode#5 [The man & the machines]
Published on Jan 21, 2017 Opificio Sonico
Some gear/synth spotting: Soundmachines NS1nanosynth, EHX MINI-SYNTHESIZER, Moog Animoog (not sure what the second app is), Boss Hand Clapper, and Novation Launchpad.
"I was 11 when during a Sunday afternoon of 1978 Kraftwerk appeared for the first time in an Italian TV show. For me it was a dazzling discovery, one that has changed my life , so I went into my room , took a tape and recorded the audio from the tv speaker!! I still keep that precious recording and I've played it again and again for a long time.
Since that day I was waiting the time when the robots make a real functioning band and play music live, and nowdays a lot of music robots around the world are growing up, giving new ideas and creative communication to the music.
This is my inspiration to this Kraftwerk 's tribute, regarding their vision of the future and to their brilliant approaching to the music with a touch of irony that even now is still influencing a thousand of music producers around the world.
My video contribution from Toa Mata Band (a tiny orchestra of Lego® robots driven by Arduino®) represents a version of the iconic tune 'The robots' using nowdays open-source technologies, microcontrollers, 3D printer, robot arm, music DAW, smarthphones, pocket synthesizers* and more... trying to give a new way to read the message we got from them 40 years ago.
Hoping you'll enjoy it, I want thank you for watching!
