Stereo ILLUMIRINGER given to Adam Horovitz (Ad-Rock - Beastie Boys)

"I just had to do it, how many chances does a man get to see Cheech & Chong "Up in Smoke" with Ad-Rock of the Beastie Boys? The answer.... is one chance.

I bought my tickets to the movie, and immediately started thinking of what I might give to the King Ad-Rock if I was able to catch up with him for a few. A ran through a bunch of ideas, none of which seemed right for him. I wanted the piece to really be a custom number, one that not only looked Beastie, but would be useful to one.

Eventually it hit me, how about a Stereo R.C.A. version of the illumiringer effect. This way it could easily be used with turntables or an MPC sampler (two things Adam Horovitz is no stranger to). I like the idea of the effect being stereo, this will allow Adam to turn on one channel (left or right) of the effect or both. That way the end result of a beat / record would be a combination of both, giving the final sound some really cool texture.

Well, if you watched the video you see.. I was able to catch up with Adam after the movie and hand him off the piece. He was totally stoked, but probably not as much as I was. ha

Sadly the video is only a walk through of the features and graphics, I didn't have enough time to put together a good RCA setup to shoot a good demo. Hopefully we will see or hear some of it somewhere in Adam's future work. Either way, it was amazing to meet him.. what a totally down to earth cool guy. Not that I or anyone else would expect anything less. Adam had mentioned he had even given some circuit bending a shot in the past, and has a pile of baby toys left behind from his son he might want to have me crack open. It would of course be an honor, I look forward to it :) Again, thanks Adam... you rock!

PLEASE do not write me asking me to make an exact clone of this piece. This is a one of a kind made for Adam, I am happy to share it with you... but making loot off the the Beastie's name is not the game here. I just wanted to show some appreciation to an artist I really respect. I will certainly make other stereo Illumiringers, maybe even with R.C.A. inputs... I think it was a cool idea, just not the Beastie Boys one seen here. I am sure you understand :) Thanks all."

Zero-G Releases Haunted Ground Sample Library

Zero-G: Haunted Ground from Adam Pietruszko on Vimeo.

50% off until tomorrow, June 3rd!
Get it here: http://www.zero-g.co.uk/store/haunted-ground-p536.php

"BRAND NEW RELEASE! HAUNTED GROUND - Ambience & FX from Abandoned Places, by Adam Pietruszko.

Introductory offer until Wednesday 3rd June - 50% OFF.

Haunted Ground is an avant-garde sound library inspired by the unique character of abandoned places. The structures that man left to crumble as time ticks away, now brought to life in this collection of samples. Created by sound designer Adam Pietruszko specializing in visual and aural documentation of forsaken buildings, to provide you with the atmosphere and spirit of these forbidden locations. This library took a year to plan, prepare and record. Carefully choosing locations as recording sites and inspiration was taken from countless photographs, schematics and abandoned structure history resources.

The mood of abandoned factories, warehouses and installations has been recreated via means of analog and digital synthesis, along with the sounds captured on-site via field recording, to bring you closer to the exploration, all properly mangled and warped, for that particular eerie feeling.

The sounds of this library give insight into the afterlife of these seemingly dead and quiet buildings. For beneath the rubble, rust and peeling paint, there lies another dimension. The ghosts of workers and inhabitants roam the rooms, halls, corridors and attics, longing for the life that had been taken away from their homes. The machines, furnaces and tools remember their duties, but their shift is over. Delve in the echoes of the past and explore their legacy and hidden nature.

This library is aimed at cinematic and game sound producers, looking to bring a touch of reflection, suspense and nostalgia into their works. Also a contemporary electronic musician will find many inspiring sounds to exploit.

All sounds have been captured in 24-bit, 48kHz audio and are split into 4 categories, for easy construction of your own custom abandoned places sound scenes.

Haunted Ground Demo 1 - Condemned Hospital (mp3)
Haunted Ground Demo 2 - Factory Drones (mp3)
Haunted Ground Demo 3 - Haunted Prison(mp3)
Haunted Ground Demo 4 - Old Cottage (mp3)

The categories and gear used in the recordings are as follows:

Entities and Spirits – eerie sounds of ghosts and lost souls, for that haunted feeling. You'll find chants, drones and atmospheres as well as numerous sweeps and whines. Most of these sounds were created using a semi-modular analog synth setup (Moog Little Phatty Tribute Edition Serial No. 1165 with CV Out Mod, a collection of Moog Moogerfooger analog effects + WMD Geiger Counter digital wave-shaping distortion unit).

Atau_and_Adam

YouTube via manwithfeathers | July 26, 2010

"Adam & Atau exploit a commonly available consumer electronics device, the Apple iPhone, as an expressive, gestural musical instrument. The device is well known an iconic object of desire in our society of consumption. The iPhone can play music as a commodity, and this is the way most listeners interact with it. Adam & Atau reappropriate the iPhone and its advanced technical capabilities to transform the consumer object into an expressive musical instrument for concert performance. In a duo, with one in each hand, they create a chamber music, 4-hands iPhone. The accelerometers which typically serve as tilt sensors to rotate photos in fact allow high precision capture of the performer's free space gestures. The multitouch screen, otherwise used for scrolling and pinch-zooming text, becomes a reconfigurable graphic user interface akin to the JazzMutant Lemur, with programmable faders, buttons, and 2D controllers that control synthesis parameters in real time. All this drives open source Pure Data (PD) patches running out of the free RJDJ iPhone app. A single advanced granular synthesis patch becomes the process by which a battery of sounds from the natural world are stretched, frozen, scattered, and restitched. The fact that all system components - sensor input, signal processing and sound synthesis, and audio output, are embodied in a single device make it very different than the typical controller + laptop model for digital music performance. The encapsulation in a self-contained, manipulable object take the iPhone beyond consumer icon to become a powerful, expressive musical instrument."

Atau and Adam at NYEAF

manwithfeathers | December 07, 2009

"Atau Tanaka and Adam Parkinson playing at the Frederick Loewe Theatre, NYU as part of the New York Electronic Arts Festival, 2009.

Atau plays the biomuse, which captures physiological neuron impulses resulting from muscle tension , using it to control samples and synthesis in Max / MSP. Adam uses RjDj to run Pure Data on two ipods, controlling granular synthesisers and other sound generators using the built-in tilt sensors.

Audio taken from handheld camera, hence quality not too great - will try and get hold of better audio from the gig."

Wizard Tone Improvisation Series - Volume 5

On the series via Ed Zuccollo:

"I sat in the live room with my Minimoog, a lamp, two effects pedals (EHX Cathedral and Strymon BigSky), and no preconception of what was to come. Adam's voice came through the headphones: 'The ENIAC was the world's first mechanical computer. They're just starting it up for the first time and it begins spitting out numbers and doing calculations... Play that. We're rolling, start whenever you like.'

And so I sat there in silence, imagining this scene, imagining the sounds, then converting these sounds to settings on the Minimoog in my head - then I set up the Moog and began to play, and when I finished we were onto the next one, and the next one... a robotic futuristic bee colony, imagining my favourite mountain bike trail, and eventually reading the Moon Hymn poem and playing my reaction. No edits or layers, all first takes."

via BandCamp:

"... a mind bending creative journey fueled by an exploration of sound and music both beautiful and other-worldly. Zuccollo's deep knowledge of analogue synthesis, in particular the Minimoog, has produced one of the most brilliantly original and at times uncomfortable releases in the Wizard Tone Records catalogue to date. A good set of headphones and an open mind is essential to experiencing this release".
- Adam Page - Producer/curator

These recordings are all first take improvisations and in the order they were performed. Producer Adam Page curated the performances by offering Ed motivations and visualisations immediately prior to recording each track.

Virus vs Viper: Can Viper sound like the Virus?
video upload by adamszabomusic

"Viper aims to deliver the sound characteristics of legendary hardware synthesizers in a virtual format. It comes with multitude of features like: multiple Oscillator types, Sync, Frequency Modulation, Ring Modulation, Unison up to 8 voices, Filter Saturation, Filter Routings, Modulation Matrix, high quality Effects, a powerful Arpeggiator, and much more!

A lot of time and research has been invested to make Viper capable of delivering a wide array of sounds, everything from lush pads, huge basses, and powerful leads, typically found in analog synthesizers. This was achieved with careful coding, experimenting, analyzing hardware synths, and using the ear to fine tune its parameters.

The audio engine is written in optimized code to use as little CPU consumption as possible, while maintaining a high quality sound engine, finding a good balance between the two. Viper also has a smoothing algorithm for its controls to remove the ‘steppyness’ associated with digital synthesizers.

Viper is available as a 32 and 64-bit VST 2.4 and VST 3 instrument for Windows."

Oberheim OB-X8 Videos by Adam Borseti

video uploads by Adam Borseti

The above playlist features a handful of Oberheim OB-X8 videos by Adam Borseti. Note the first few videos feature the custom OB-Xa style overlay (link below), followed by the stock OB-X style panel.

Playlist:

1. First Day of Summer! (Oberheim OB-X8)
Here's a fun little spur-of-the-moment jam over a song I've been working on. This is the direction I want the song to go in, but I'm probably going to re-record some of it. We'll see. You like the 80s style OB-Xa/OB-8 blue pin stripes for the OB-X8? I do to! They're made of semi-rigid plastic and can be applied or removed in less than 2 minutes with no adhesive. It's really cool to be able to switch between the late 70s OB-X look and the super-1980s OB-Xa and OB-8 look.

Get yours here https://www.synthoverlays.com/product...
2. Random Improv Jam

3. Going places in DOUBLE MODE
Using the SEM filters in lowpass for the bottom layer and a delicious Notch filter on the upper layer pad.
4. OB-X8 - Left Hand Bass Exercises
Laying down bass lines thick and hard with lefty, following the lead of whatever chord righty is holding down. This was all improvised so forgive any chord meandering and weird transitions, mistakes and the like. Is what it is.
5. "Approaching Chaos" - Oberheim OB-X8
All sounds made with the Oberheim OB-X8 run through a Zoom MS-70CDR, with the drums from my Roland TR-626. Enjoy
6. Oberheim OB-X8 - Cinematic improvisation & Double Mode patch
Consider this some filler while I'm working on my next actual song. I'm almost done!
7. "Reflections" - Oberheim OB-X8
A new original tune of mine, the first in a good long while! Less time and more stress have resulted in less creativity haha, but I'm trying over here. :)
8. The Camera Eye - Oberheim OB-X8
I mean, it's THAT sound......

UVI adopted a hybrid approach to create these sounds, combining deep multi-sampling and powerful modeling tools (analog filters, LFO, envelopes, etc.), inspired by the original machine and enhanced with today most modern audio processing and script technology.

Sounds were recorded and carefully selected from the authentic restored instrument, with the very best analog and digital gear, suiting UVI quality standard. This process allows preserving the original sounds' lo-fi charm.

Besides, hundreds of sounds and instruments among the best are included: drums, bass, bells, choir-voices, fretted instruments, FXs, keyboards, mallets, percussion, synths, strings, orchestral hits and a lot more.

A simple, yet complete, user interface reproduces the looks and feeling of the most famous and essential machine from the eighties. With 250+ best sounds and primary editing tools, Emulation II enables you to create authentic spin-offs with infinite options of sounds and tones.

This is definitely the ultimate digital version of the long standing professional sampler of the mid-80s, that has been used by Depeche Mode, Peter Gabriel, Pet Shop Boys, New Order, Jean-Michel Jarre, Stevie Wonder, Genesis, Paul McCartney, Enya, Vangelis, in John Carpenter's soundtracks, etc.

Discover also Drumulation: an utter beatbox with step sequencer from the eighties, loaded with 500+ drums and percussion sounds. Make your beats sound 12 bits!
From the Pop culture resurgence to the most modern Electro-Pop, make music without any frontier.

Thanks to the new and free player UVI Workstation 2, Emulation II can work:
- as a stand-alone instrument, compatible with Mac & PC
- as a VST, AudioUnit, RTAS and MAS plug-in. iLok required.
Also compatible with MachFive 3: make the most of all the editing features offered, like unlimited FX by part.

Boss SYB3 Bass Synthesizer Demo

Published on Mar 30, 2017 Adam Flanagan

"Video demonstration of the discontinued Boss SYB3 Bass Synthesizer effects pedal. I was going through pedals, trying to find ones I no longer needed, and found this one. After tinkering with it for a while, I manage to find useable sounds in all 11 modes of the pedals and decided to arrange them into a song structure. Hope you enjoy!
