Bad Gear - Why would anyone want this???
video upload by AudioPilz
"Welcome to Bad Gear, the show about the world's most hated audio tools. Today we are going to talk about Roland TR-06 . Does it even make sense to release a digital drum machine based on the not so iconic Roland TR-606 ? Was the analog Behringer RD-6 first this time? Did we need another Roland Boutique reissue of a a vintage drum machine and 80s classic like the tr606 and why would anyone want this ? Do the additional sounds taken from other machines like the Roland TR-808 and Roland TR-909 make a difference?"

DRUM MACHINE Review and Buyers Guide Part 1
video upload by Noisegate
"Drum machines have come a long way in a relatively short period of time. If you think about the first fully programmable drum machines such as the Roland legendary TR-808, that was only a little over 40 years ago. Roland’s first MIDI drum machine, the House and Techno queen that is the TR-909 was manufactured in 1982. It’s nice to reminisce about the 1980s when drum machines became popular, although there’s been some modern classics during this millennium including the Elektron MachineDrum from 2001 and Dave Smith Tempest from 2011. Today there are a plethora of new drum machines all with amazing new features. Yes, many manufacturers these days politely provide a nod to the classics such as the 808, 909 and LinnDrum through to the modern classic in their designs. Here is our mega drum machine guide for the current drum machines that are being manufactured. This project became so big, that we had to split it into two parts, so here is part 1:
Check out the specs and the bits we love from each of these drum machines here: https://noisegate.com.au/drum-machine...
If you think that was mega, we’ve still got plenty more. We’ll be covering the Roland TR-8s, Korg Drumlogue, Erica Synths Perkons and more in part 2...!!

RS040 Novation Drum Station: T-RD 809?
video upload by rejected synths
"When Behringer finally managed to deliver the RD9 to stores, everyone seemed to be very much hyped about it and why wouldn‘t you be? It’s a bit like a budget car brand releasing everyone’s favorite vintage sports car at the price of, well … a budget car … only that the car looks, feels and performs pretty much like the real deal, if not better. So it’s pretty clear everyone is hyped a.f.
But what if I told you it has been done before? Sure, the Novations Drum Station isn’t ‘the real deal’ in terms of some of the functionality, like the sequencer, but it more than makes up for that shortcoming by squeezing both incredibly realistic (for the time) 808 AND 909 emulations into a very compact and very (midi) controllable 19’’ rack unit.
And while RD8 and RD9 are much cheaper than those old school legends, if you just want the sound and control-ability, why not save another 300 bucks (and a lot of shelf space)."

RD-9, TD-3, Buchla & Nord Modular Live from SYNTHON 909 DAY FEST
video upload by The Galaxy Electric
"Here is an excerpt from our SYNTHON 909 Day Fest performance. It was so much fun and such a successful stream. The TR-909 drum machine has become a genuine staple in electronic music production. With an illustrious list of tracks that feature those iconic sounds it is strictly unavoidable. We recently acquired the RD-9 by Behringer which attempts to clone much of the voicing used in the iconic drum machine. Did they do it? You be the judge. Alongside the TD-3, a clone of the TB-303 Bassline, the 909 makes it easy to cop a sense of nostalgia dating back to the 80s. This was a time when folks started implementing these poorly selling machines acquired at Pawn Shop prices to make music for dancing at the club. This underground dance music originated in Chicago, Detroit, and New York but quickly spread to the UK and Europe and took off like a shot. The rest is history, but that doesn't mean it should be forgotten. We took this opportunity to improvise on machines that evoke this sense of nostalgia to conjure the spirit of this very early and often minimal approach to make you move your body. Additional funk provided by the Buchla modular which acts as a synth voice and sampler in this context. The Nord Modular provides the background synths this time, but don't you worry, it will have its day to shine. Thanks to our friends at The Golden Shrimp Guild for encouraging us to join this stream and for being super rad folks in general!

The Boring TR-909 vs RD-9 Comparison Video We Didn't Need to Have!
video upload by Honeysmack
"It's the video we didn't need to have, but here it is — a very rough comparison of the TR-909 and RD-9 performing the same pattern over and over again, be warned its rather boring. This is not an attempt to go through the detailed features of each, just a quick 1:1 comparison for all those who have been asking for it. Signal path is a mono out of each drum machine into an old Mackie 8 Bus mixer, recorded dry.
These days it seems there are more 909 experts than actual 909s, with opinions divided over what is an authentic 909 sound.... boring and ahem...why does it matter, why is it a competition?! These experts tend to overlook the sequencer, that is an essential quality of any hardware drum machine! For the rest of us, the RD-9 is awesome and I think it does a great job of emulating the original TR-909 with some clever new additions, but shhhhhhh no one will ever know the difference, except for maybe you know who (they'll be easy to spot in the comments section below). 😂 🤣
Sorry for the blurred parts of the video, there were some experts that could not show their faces because they felt the shame of not actually owning a 909. Now the cat is out of the bag!! It's okay they have gone back to the safety of their screens to assert their misinformed opinion onto others. Here's wishing them well, I worry sometimes... 🙃 😘
For those experts who are angry, unsatisfied or take issue with this video, please call into your nearest Internet Cafe as you might be eligible for a refund for watching this video and please accept my insincere apology. 🤡 🤪 😜
Disclaimer: I was a beta-tester on the Behringer RD-9 and I do not work for Behringer, nor do they have any input into the making of this video.
Thanks for watching 😀

First 8 minutes with the Behringer RD-9: Raw Techno Jam
video by Honeysmack
"First 8 minutes with the RD-9. All sounds are exclusively from the RD-9. Totally raw, improvised and unrehearsed Techno jam, nothing too serious, just throwing as much as I can at it, so please wipe away your tears before you get upset.🙃
Sounds great, very playable and performable. Feels nice and the new features evolve the original 909 sound and sequencer.
Now please don't go asking how it compares to the original, unless you are doing a high-school science project that you need answers in order to impress your classmates.😁 I'll have a 1:1 comparison of sorts for the Techno elitists very soon with my TR-909. FYI: Every TR-909 sounds different because each one is processed differently on different recordings by different producers!"

Behringer's RD9 TR-909 Clone Finally Ships
This one was a long time coming. You could have picked up a prototype back in July of 2020 here.
"RD-9 is now finally shipping. We're sorry that it has taken much longer than we had anticipated but Covid plus the current global supply chain challenges didn't make it easier.
Compared to the earlier version, the RD-9 has been completely redesigned with many new features added. We're very proud of the RD-9 and can't wait to hear all your feedback.
We also like to thank the many wonderful beta testers who helped us with valuable feature suggestions and to ensure the product is now in perfect shape.
Please be aware that it'll take some time to fill the huge backorders we have on hand. Thank you for all your patience and support."

An Update on Behringer's Upcoming RD-909 - Roland TR-909 Clone
"RD-9 Update from Uli.
Hi everyone, we like to give you some feedback related to the RD-9. Since the launch of our RD-8, we listened to you and spent quite some time to further improve the unit, which resulted in multiple firmware releases.
We're now putting our focus on the RD-9, which shares much of the same firmware. We have also taken the opportunity to completely review the hardware to ensure we do everything we can to ship a high quality product.
We don't have a shipping date for now, but we're making good progress as we're fully focusing on the RD-9. As soon as we have more updates, we'll let you know.
Thank you for your patience and support.
Uli"

"Dave from Behringer was on hand to take us through the features of the RD-909. Now obviously the RD-909 is a copy of the Original Roland TR-909, however the workflow and the sequencer have been updated to bring the 909 into the 21st century. Behringer have also changed some of the sound features from the original too, Dave took us through what is different to the original."
