Astra Creative Audio releases Tesseracto 4D MPE Software Synth

"Astra Creative Audio, the plugin brand of Barcelona producers BLIKO and Phonkid Prod, releases Tesseracto 4D, a wavetable synthesizer for macOS that can be played in the air. Its companion app, Tesseracto CAM, reads both hands through the Mac's camera or an iPhone (Continuity Camera) and turns height, tilt and an open or closed hand into per-note MPE expression, the way an MPE controller would.

Tesseracto 4D

- Wavetable oscillator that travels the table in four dimensions (X, Y, Z and W), shown rotating at the centre of the panel.

- Full MPE: every finger carries its own pitch, pressure and slide; also playable from any MPE controller or a regular keyboard.

- 4D modulation matrix with 3D LFOs and chaos; filter, envelopes, unison and glide; arpeggiator and 4D path.

- Hyper-FX rack: Quantum Folder, Phase Flanger, Chrono Delay, Void Shimmer, Hyper-Stereo Displacer, Hyper-Compressor and Vintage Reverb 70s, in series, in parallel or in a feedback loop.

- 80 presets in 10 categories.

- Version 1.0.0. macOS: VST3 and Audio Unit, universal binary (Intel and Apple Silicon). Licence for life on two computers.

- Tesseracto CAM: macOS 13 or later. Hand tracking runs on the computer: the camera image never leaves it, and the internet is only needed once, to activate the licence.

Celestine for iPad: My real‑time granular device is now an AUv3

"Celestine is a real-time granular AUv3 audio effect for the iPad. It's always listening and always spitting out grains. If you've been following my channel for some time, you'll know that Celestine started out as a Max4Live device... my most successful one to date. Many people have asked for it to be ported to other platforms and this marks the beginning of that journey. I've spent the last few months on this. I've also got future plans to release Celestine as a VST3/AU for other desktop DAW users.

Just like the original, this iPad version aims for the immediacy of a pedal and the depth of a granular instrument. There are eight granular modes: classic Grain clouds, Mosaic’s harmonic tiles, Glide’s tape‑like swoops, Reverie’s reverse washes, Bloom’s halos, Tide’s pulsing waves, Stars’ sequenced sparkles and Orbit’s swirling stereo motion. Everything stays tempo‑locked when you want it to in Sync mode, the (now touch-based) visualizer lets you perform playhead and pitch gestures on the fly, and the grain panel offers control over density, size, spray, jitter, reverse probability and more.

To shape the final output, Celestine includes a 'Magic panel' of various multi-FX to sweeten things, a lush reverb and a Dirt section with wavefolding and a bitcrusher. Use Celestine as an insert effect and set the dry/wet to taste or put it fully wet on a send to let fragments of your entire session bloom into shimmering clouds. I’ve found it shines on vocals, guitars, synths and pianos, but percussion can turn into glittering glitches and rhythmic sparkles too. I've also added undo/redo, a full preset system and a constrained randomizer to jump to new ideas quickly.

As I mentioned, I’m planning future releases for VST3/AU on desktop, so this is just the beginning of Celestine’s journey. For now, I hope you enjoy sculpting sounds on the couch, in the bathtub or wherever you like to use your iPad. :)

The patch starts with a choir-like digital wave, then uses a second detuned oscillator, effects, wavetable position and morph settings to get that wider, vocal, classic electronic lead character.

"Digitone 2 and Analog 4 on a melancholic IDM-jam building the first track for my next album.

Digitone 2 used for pads (Swarmer machines) plus Tricera Chorus and reverb. The other tracks are used for drums and percussion.

Here Outbox 8 really shines, as you now can use the DN as synth, drum machine and external sequencer - and still go for hardware recordings.

Will use the DN2 / A4 combo definitely more frequently.

Had severe issues with my BlueBox today, as no separate FX tracks were recorded, although the option was selected, so I added reverb and delay in Logic X Pro this time."

Farfisa Polychrome – A short demonstration

"Farfisa Polychrome – A short demonstration (with added reverb).

My rarest (and most awesome) synth must be the Farfisa Polychrome. It's a thoroughly beautiful Italian string machine from the late 1970s with four independent sections, a BBD chorus, and a great phaser effect. It's kind of similar to the ARP Quadra (but without a mono section—everything here is purely divide-down based). It's similar in size to the Korg Trident or Elka Synthex (HUGE!) but even heavier! It's got a really otherworldly analog vocal chorus section that sounds unique and beautiful, especially when combined with the other sections.

The keybed has a really nice mechanical aftertouch mechanism, similar in construction to the one found in the Yamaha CS series (though this one works with a magnet and a Hall sensor). My Farfisa collection also includes the Soundmaker and the Synthorchestra—Farfisa's earlier but similarly unique and cool machines with a distinctive 1970s sound (compared to the Polychrome, which sounds quite different)."

Moog Micromoog & Modular w/ AJH/MiniMod, Hermod+ analog synth jam

"Testing my faulty Micromoog with some helpful modules from AJH Synth: My poor old Moog isn't scaling/tracking correctly, so the V-Scale module is being used to modify the 1V/Oct output of the sequencer to produce the correct notes. Normally the Micromoog follows a 0.95V/Oct voltage to pitch scale, but mine can no longer even be calibrated to this with it's internal trimmers, so until it can be serviced (probably with some new components), the V-Scale at least makes it useable with external controllers and sequencers.

Sequenced by the Squarp Hermod+, the synth's faulty tracking is then corrected using AJH Synth's V-Scale module, gates coverted by the AMSynths AM997 Gate to S-Trig converter.

Micromoog filter modulated by AJH Tap Tempo VC-LFO, random gate skip by AJH CHance Delay.

Drone is 3 AJH MiniMod VCOs into Matrix VCF.

Mixed in the Cosmotronic Cosmix Pro, reverb from FX Aid, delay from 2HP DLY, final mix recorded on the Disting Mk4."

Correcting Vintage Synths with V-SCALE - Tackling Tracking & Tuning Problems #ajhsynth

"Using V-SCALE to compensate for the tuning/tracking problems on one of my Vintage Synthesizers, this time a Moog Micromoog from the late 70's. V-SCALE at its simplest will function as a highly accurate buffered multiple, but four of its five outputs are adjustable by way of multi-turn trimmers. These allow for very gradual adjustments to outgoing CV signals, so that they can be made viable for synths or VCOs that are not scaling properly.

Here I'm adjusting/modifying a 1V/Oct signal from a sequencer so that it controls my old Micromoog correctly, but it could also be used with incoming signals other than 1V/Oct, or even to correct am incoming signal which itself isn't scaling correctly or as desired. Each trimmer has an adjustment range of +/- 5%.

My Micromoog's tracking is so far off that it cannot even be corrected using the internal trimmers on the synth, so I'm using the Keyboard Output (KBD) as the CV input, instead. of the intended OSC input. This method bypasses the keyboard, so the keyboard voltage isn't added to incoming control voltages, and so doesn't interfere with it. The only drawback is that the root key will have to be changed to match the notes on a keyboard. That's where the PRECISION VOLTAGES comes in - it can accurately offset an incoming control voltage by semitones and octaves, either up or down."

"I recently restored an Oberheim OB-8 for someone and before handing it back I decided to see how it compared with the diminutive Korg Minilogue. The Korg is new, small, and cheap – the OB-8 is none of those things. But how do they sound together?

The Minilogue is playing an arpeggio through a TC 2290P delay pedal. Both synths go into the Tascam Model 12 with nothing else in the way. Reverb is from a Lexicon MPX1, their mid-range unit from the 90s, which sat just below the PCM series and above the budget MPX and LXP models. No further processing on this, the audio is straight from the Tascam."
