Maneco Labs - Otterley Stereo Reverb

video by NOISEBUG

"This is a demo of the Maneco Labs Otterley Stereo Reverb eurorack module. Its a dual reverb design that can create some epic soundscapes and pitch shifting. More info can be found here -

https://www.noisebug.net/products/man..."

via Noisebug

"Otterley is a rich dual reverb, but with simple operations.

It includes two engines, reverb one, controlled by just a knob but with rich and atmospheric flavor , and reverb two , a reverse reverb with several associated parameters.

Despite its complexity, operation is quite simple, no menus, no switches, no hidden functions.

Description of controls:

●Reverb 1 :one knob level and size control for first engine, as level increases also does size and modulation complexity for this lush component.

●Reverb 2 : reverse reverb engine blend control , from dry to full wet.

●Feedback : regeneration for Reverb 2 , from zero to almost self oscillation.

●Delay: time and size for reverse component, from almost immediate to dry signal to quasi reverse delay character , for reverb 2

●Grain : density for reverb 2 , from identifiable reverb grains to blurred sound strokes at maximum.

Machines In Music 2017 - Music Thing Modular - Spring Reverb Mk II

Published on Nov 11, 2017 Thonk Synth DIY

"Buy the Spring Reverb MK II kit here - https://www.thonk.co.uk/product-categ..."

"New Features of the Spring Reverb Mkii include:

Internal Feedback control with CV input, dedicated attenuverter and with invert switch for maximum feedbackiness

Wet out and feedback in sockets for more flexible patching

3HP Expander – allows for instant switching between reverb brick and spring tank – or set a blend between the two

Expander also allows for front panel send and return to spring tank.

New improved circuit

More Features
Works with a variety of spring reverb tanks (not included), or with the Accutronics BTDR-2 reverb ‘brick’ designed by Brian Neunaber (not included)
Vactrol (VTL5C3) crossfade between dry and wet (vactrol circuits are variable in their ability to go completely 100% wet, like the Make Noise Echophon for example)
Tilt EQ on the reverb send to tune the voice of the reverb
X-Fade input so the module can also be used as a standalone vactrol crossfader (crossfade demo)
Feedback circuit with positive and negative phase
Attenuverter on the crossfade CV input
6hp wide (NB: If using the brick, mounted horizontally, the brick extends 5mm over the PCB to the left of the module, around 25mm back from the front panel, so mount the reverb next to a shallow module)
Expander with Front panel mount Phono sockets & Crossfade between reverb types."

And the Expander:

"The Music Thing Spring Reverb Expander is designed to connect to the Music Thing Modular Spring Reverb Mkii. The expander adds the ability to blend the reverb tank and brick outputs and manually crossfade between the two. This module also adds the option to connect to your reverb tank from the front panel rather than the back PCB of the main Spring Reverb module. This expander is passive so doesn’t require a power cable.

Note: This expander is only compatible with the MTM Spring Reverb Mkii – It will not work with older revisions."

Keeley Electronics Caverns Delay and Reverb - Roland JDXi Synthesizer

Published on Oct 26, 2017

"rkfx.com
https://robertkeeley.com/Caverns

Here's a clip of our Caverns Delay and Reverb paired with a Roland JD-Xi Synth."

Stranger Things.

And some info on the pedal:

"The New Caverns Delay Reverb V2 dual effect pedal combines delay and reverb for the perfect end to any pedal board. It features Keeley’s analog style tape delay with modulation options. The 650ms of warm delay combine with Spring, Shimmer or Modulated Reverb. Now with True-Bypass or Trails option. Because of its small and compact design, the New Caverns is a perfect fit for any fly-rig or small board where you have tight space requirements. The New V2 features Keeley’s most popular time-based effects, blended perfectly and fine-tuned over 2 years. It will be an amazing addition to any board.

The Reverb side of the pedal features 3 Cavernous sounds:

Spring Mode – Black Face Amp style spring reverb with F Style Tremolo
Modulation Mode – Choral modulation to the reverb for a huge, cavernous reverb
Shimmer Mode – Reverb with emphasis on octave-up voices in reverb trails
The Delay side of the pedal incorporates Keeley’s popular Magnetic Echo circuit, designed to emulate analog tape delay lines. Three way switchable modulation gives you options for adding Wow and Flutter to the repeats. Perfectly voiced echoes sit in the mix well, either clean or with distortion.

Soundtoys SuperPlate Styles

video uploads by soundtoys

The 5 styles of the new SuperPlate by Soundtoys.

Available now at www.soundtoys.com

See the announcement post here

"Take a look at all five plate reverb styles included in SuperPlate – each was inspired by an iconic plate. In the development of SuperPlate, Soundtoys added nine plates to their gear collection and spent seven years immersed in reverb, dreaming up the modern features that would reinvent this classic effect.

The reverb you hear in each video is entirely one of SuperPlate's styles. Explore the unique sonic character of each individual plate style."

Playlist:

1. Soundtoys SuperPlate: E. Plate III Style
The EcoPlate III (c. 1982) was the third and smallest version of the EcoPlate series of reverbs designed by Jim Cunningham. All three plates in the EcoPlate series use a stainless steel alloy to create its reverberation and all three versions have an exceptionally bright and spacious sound. Soundtoys studied and added an EcoPlate III to our gear collection for the development of SuperPlate. E. Plate III is just one of the five plate styles and many features included in Soundtoys' SuperPlate reverb plug-in.

Sound design by Laura Wolf – @laurawolfmusic • www.laurawolfmusic.com
2. Soundtoys SuperPlate: Classic 140 Style
SuperPlate's Classic 140 plate style is based on the EMT 140 (1957), the most well-known and the first commercially successful plate reverb. It was made by hanging a plate of cold-rolled steel in a metal frame, and as legend has it, the steel came from one specific Welsh ore mine. The EMT 140 was a studio standard for decades, and is what most people reference when they talk about plate reverb. Soundtoys studied and added five EMT 140 units to our gear collection for the development of SuperPlate. Classic 140 is just one of the five plate styles and many features included in Soundtoys' SuperPlate reverb plug-in.

Sound design by Hannah Tobias – www.hannah-tobias.com
3. Soundtoys SuperPlate: Audicon Style
“The Plate” (c. 1971) also known as the “Lawson Plate” was designed by Gene Lawson (Lawson Microphones) in Nashville to be a more economical plate reverb for those who couldn’t afford an original EMT 140. It was manufactured by console manufacturer Auditronics out of Memphis, Tennessee. Soundtoys studied and added "The Plate" to our gear collection for the development of SuperPlate. Audicon is just one of the five plate styles and many features included in Soundtoys' SuperPlate reverb plug-in.

Sound design by Hannah Tobias – www.hannah-tobias.com
4. Soundtoys SuperPlate: Stocktronics Style
The Stocktronics RX4000 (1978) is the only Swedish plate we know of, and it uses a steel alloy plate with low internal crystallic damping characteristics, which gives it a very distinctive extended high-frequency response. In other words, this plate has zing! While Soundtoys was unable to add the Stocktronics RX4000 to our gear collection, our study of the RX4000 was made possible by proud Stocktronics owners spanning two continents (if anyone is keen to sell, please call us!). Stocktronics is just one of the five plate styles and many features included in Soundtoys' SuperPlate reverb plug-in.

Sound design by Bryn Bliska – @brynbliska • www.brynbliska.com
Special thanks to Mattias Olsson at Roth Händle Studio for letting us access this impeccable Stocktronics RX4000 – @RothHandle
5. Soundtoys SuperPlate: Goldfoil 240 Style
SuperPlate's Goldfoil 240 plate style is based on the EMT 240 (1970). While technically not a plate at all, it was designed to create a more compact and portable reverb. Instead of a steel plate, the EMT 240 used a thin foil of 24-karat gold to create its distinctive darker and tighter sound. Soundtoys studied and added two EMT 240 units to our gear collection for the development of SuperPlate. Goldfoil 240 is just one of the five plate styles and many features included in Soundtoys' SuperPlate reverb plug-in.

Synthesizers.com Spring Reverb

Click here for shots via this auction

"This is a one-of-a-kind synth module--a Synthesizers.com spring reverb built into a Blacet / PAiA / Frac Rack sized faceplate. I did the conversion myself. The module began life as a Dotcom Q115, and no changes whatsoever have been made to anything except the faceplate. The legending is just a couple of inkjet-printed stickers; the two knobs control drive and wet/dry mix. The item comes with the original three-spring reverb tank, two RCA cables to hook it up, mounting screws, and a special Dotcom-to-Blacet power cable, that enables you to hook this directly up to Blacet power. The module works exactly as it would have in a Dotcom system--the power specs are identical.

The only caveat I have about this module is that it distorts fairly easily (same complaint people have with the Doepfer reverb), and you may find that you want to attenuate the signal somewhat before sending it in. What I did was to split my signal with a multiple, send one to the final mixer, and the other to an attenuator, then the reverb, and then the mixer, to be blended in there. You may not have a problem with this, if you tend not to push your other modules hard, picking up gain at each on the way. Finally, I found it most useful to place the reverb tank entirely outside my Frac Rack case, to minimize hum from the power. The cables are plenty long for doing this.

Here's the Synthesizers.com description: ' The Q115 Reverb module adds the traditional reverb effect to the sounds from your system. A 3-spring mechanical reverb tank is used similar to the units found in Fender guitar amplifiers. The operator has manual control over the initial reverb spring Drive and the Amount of reverb mixed into the output signal. Designed to operate with the large signals produced by other modules in the system.'"

Strymon NightSky Studies

Patchwerks Seattle

"In this video resident expert Rae shares some of the sounds she made after taking the Strymon NightSky home for a few nights. Rae conducted 3 studies with the NightSky showing off some favorite sounds/modes while processing the Roland SH-01A.

Create vast soundscapes with just a few notes from your instrument. Apply mind-bending pitch and harmonic manipulation to your reverb tails, with synth-like filter sweeps. Enter a world of new sounds that blow away the boundaries of what is possible with reverb. With pioneers and adventurous sonic explorers in mind we created a reverb pedal that can go where none have gone before.

Reverberant Synthesis Machine.
NightSky is a reverberant synthesis workstation, and a powerful, hands-on experimental sound design platform. NightSky gives you real-time continuous control of reverb pitch/processing rate/core size, harmonics, and even a synth-like resonant filter with multiple modulation waveshapes, plus a step sequencer with variable glide. You haven’t heard a pedal like this before.

The Rules of Space and Time Have Been Rewritten.
New Sonic Territory.
NightSky is a reverb pedal you will want to get your hands on. Deep and powerful sound manipulation with instant response knob-tweaking and no menu diving set a new standard in experimental reverb sound design.

Warp Core Reverb.
NightSky achieves some of its most mind bending sounds by using a Variable Process Rate for its reverb core, allowing you to simultaneously change the size of the reverb as well as the pitch. This pitch change can be completely smooth, or quantized to a variety of musical scales. And it can be sequenced.

Harmonic Sculpture Machine.
Use Shimmer to shift the harmonic structure by selectable musical intervals. Add Glimmer to dynamically enhance the harmonic spectrum. Turn up Drive to generate saturated overdriven harmonics. Then sculpt the resulting signal with NightSky’s synth-like variable-resonance low pass filter.

Challenge The Conventions.
NightSky evolved from a desire to push the envelope and challenge the conventions of traditional reverb while also paying homage to the experimental reverberant sounds from decades past.

It started with the variable rate core. Once that was nailed down, we knew we had to complement it with a set of sound-shaping features that could take full advantage of the unique possibilities and expand them exponentially. This led us to a full-featured modulation section, a 4-pole resonant filter, and a unique Voice section to control the reverb’s harmonic structure.

Astronaut reverb & delay: All 22 effects on synth (no talk)

video upload by Richard DeHove

"Astronaut by Shiftline isn't a standard reverb or delay pedal. It can certainly do 'standard' reverb and delay but with one or two knob turns you'll find yourself deep into ambience, noise and droneland. There's 22 effect algorithms and here I noodle extensively with each one. As usual I thought it best to show the pedal by itself with no other effects and with minimal cuts to give a clear idea of what it's like to twiddle the knobs.

I bought the Astronaut used on a bit of a whim: It looked good, had a good name and promised weirdness - all excellent reasons. In many ways it reminds me of a Strymon, except way more extreme. Originally I was going to do extensive blabbing about this pedal since there's a lot to talk about, but after almost an hour just of noodling I thought the blab should wait for another day.

Just a couple of things of note: The center knob selects the algorithm, while the four outer knobs all have primary and secondary functions. From left to right the secondary functions are: Volume, HPF, LPF and stereo field. You access the secondary functions by holding down the right-side switch. During the noodling you'll mainly see me adjusting the filters. Otherwise the primary four knob controls are: Character (which changes depending on the algorithm), delay/decay, mix (from dry to 100% wet) and time/speed. If that's a bit murkey then the manual is excellent:

The full manual: https://shiftline-shared.s3.amazonaws...

One aspect that's particularly interesting. There's no save function here. Instead whatever state you happen to leave the algorithm in when you switch to the next one is what you'll get when you come back. This is both incredibly convenient and dangerous: One knob twiddle and your favorite sound is now modified. OTOH there are also 11 user slots where you can easily copy any sound so you could use that as your "don't touch" zone. Those two factors make this one of the best pedals I've used in terms of saving sounds. Often preset management on pedals is painful.

Finally there are all sorts of ways Astronaut can be configured. If you want you can even change the parameter range of the knobs! There's options for MIDI CC control, analog triggers, MIDI clock, line and instrument input. You can even change the beat switch time divisions to your own exotic time signatures. So there's a lot to like.

Shimmer-like reverb on a Yamaha QY70 (following @Avrilcadabra 's recipe), plus update on LMN-3

video upload by Floyd Steinberg

"A few days ago, @Avrilcadabra posted a rather ingenious video showing how to "fake" a shimmer reverb on the Dirtywave M8. You should watch it, it's short and to-the-point and it really deserves more views: [below]
In this video, I'm testing if the same ideas work on a Yamaha QY70 as well.
No table of contents today, but there's a demo at 4:36, and a short update on the LMN3 video at 6:00"

How to make lush Shimmer reverb on M8

video upload by Avrilcadabra

"If there's a will there's a way.

#m8tracker #dirtywave

Sorry this video is fast, I tried to make it slow, but not slow enough, I zoom around the M8 so quick from using it so much. , so I'll explain here.

If you have the current firmware you can quickly render any bit of a song.
Hold shift and option to select what you want to render then press Edit 3 times, select OK to render, M8 will auto load a sampler instrument and add the render (how neat)

My pattern was 4 phrases long, so I make a new chain on the song screen, add new phrase, in that phrase add a c-4 note, it will be the new rendered sample.

then I add three empty FE phrases to the chain, to pad it out, so the sample plays uninterrupted for 4 phrases long.

Next we apply the time stretch method to our instrument, set LENGTH to 00, PLAY to FWD LOOP, set LFO to LOOPST, set OSC to Ramp UP, TRG to RETRIG,and finally FRQ to whatever length your sample is, mine was 4 phrases so I select 40 (help text says this is 4 phrases), if your pattern you rendered was 1 phrase long, then set FRQ to 10 for example,

Tweak LENGTH till it sounds less crap, between 2-4 usually.

Now adjust your C-4 to be C-5, shimmers are pitch shifted reverb an octave higher than the original sound. Because we have applied the time stretch technique our render will still be in time an octave higher. (if you want to make submarine reverb set it to C-3, or add another chain on song screen and have submarine and shimmer together!?) Now turn the DRY to 00 on the render, turn the reverb to A0, now we will only hear the octave up reverb tail, now to delay the reverb tail we use the FX command DEL02, to delay the render by 2 ticks. Now it will sound pretty good.

The final step is to add reverb on your original pattern, it will then blend into the octave up render reverb to create a full sounding Shimmer. I own a strymon reverb pedal, so I've made this to sound as close to that as I can."

Can the Ventris sound as lush as the Specular Reverb / Tempus?

Published on Oct 27, 2018 Slenterende Beer

"This is a quick comparison between the GFI System Specular Tempus and Source Audio Ventris. I bought the Ventris to see if it could replace my Specular Reverb V2, but I also wanted to compare it to the Specular Tempus. The Tempus has all the reverb algorithms of the Specular Reverb plus some extra ones, and it also has 10+ delay algorithms.

This video is by no means an extensive review of the features of each of the pedals, there are plenty of videos on YouTube which offer just that. I thought it would be nice to hear the two side-by-side, so I tried to recreate the default algorithm on the Specular Reverb V2 (called "Spatium" on the Tempus) with the Ventris, using the "E-dome" setting. Here's what's in the demo:

00:00 - 01:45 : Volca Bass + Specular Tempus
01:45 - 03:50 : Volca Bass + Ventris
03:50 - 05:10 : Volca FM + Specular Tempus
05:10 - 06:30 : Volca FM + Ventris
