"Deft Audio Luma 1 Drum Computer. This is from the first run of 100 units from Deft Audio. Serial number 073. An incredible and faithful reproduction of the Linn LM1 brought back to life by Joe Britt. It has the same DACs and filters, but has a few new features to make life easier such as the ability to load your own samples via USB. Absolutely beautifully built and sounds completely authentic as you would expect from Deft Audio. Also comes with a rather huge protective case that will survive anything."

Oddment ODD-1 Build Update & Demos
video uploads by oddment
Playlist:
1. Build Update: November 2025
This is a build update for the wonderful, patient folks that have placed a deposit. We're working harder than ever and things are finally starting to come together for building the first batch!2. ODD-1 Overview: Playheads
We will be updating the website with a solid timeline and feature set for release, and we will be ready to take your order soon! You can make a deposit to get on the list here: https://www.oddment-audio.com
For a long time now we have tried to live by the words of the great Michael Bolton from the movie Office Space, "why should I change when he's the one who sucks?" But language evolves, and unfortunately, the word “grok” has taken on associations that are problematic. Oddment has evolved too. Starting from one quirky product idea, in 3 years we have grown and are now ready for manufacturing and fulfillment of this product, with ambition to make it the first among many. So with much consternation, we have decided to drop the name groc. When we thought about a new name, we thought that what we have is a little unusual, perhaps a little outside the norm...you might even call it, the ODD-1. This is the first in a series of videos to show all of the ODD-1's functions in more detail. In this one we show off half of the encoders that control the granular synthesis engine - the PLAYHEADS function. Here you can control the level, starting point, tuning (aka pitch adjustment) and playback speed for up to 4 different granular playheads. The auxiliary functions available on the touch screen introduce random variability in different ways.3. ODD-1 Overview: Grains
This is the second in a series of videos to show all of the ODD-1's functions in more detail. In this one we show off the second half of encoders that control the granular synthesis engine - the GRAINS function. Here you can control the size, spacing, left-right placement, and grain window shape. Each control also has a related function, introducing grain size variability, spacing jitter, binaural scatter, and a front-back bias for the window shape. The auxiliary functions available on the touch screen control a bandpass filter that can be randomized per grain and adjust whether grain size is regulated in the source sample or in the output signal, which can have a big impact on sound characteristics.
And from their newsletter
What’s in a name?

And we plan to keep that off-beat attitude. We hope that brightly-colored friends, ODD-2 and ODD-3, will be along to join ODD-1 after not too long.
Build Updates
We have a lot of exciting progress to report since the last time I wrote. Hop over to our YouTube channel to check out a build update video and some in-depth functionality demos.
We debugged and fixed several problems with the circuit board including the power-up, line input and output, and noise on the control signal inputs.
We got several bids from contract manufacturers in the U.S. and around the world and selected Soldered, based in the E.U. They came highly recommended, and we think their experience will be a huge asset as we go into production.
We worked with Martyna Alexander to tweak the graphic design of the front and back panel. We are thrilled with the updates, including our new company and product logos.
We have first iterations of our custom firmware, enabling full functionality of the device and full USB connectivity to a host computer.
We have completed first versions of the software that include all audio, MIDI and system functionality we intend to support for the release. After many months of playing and testing we re-organized a few functions to expand both the number of concurrent grain “playheads”, and to support banks of patches intended for convenient switching and management in live performance.

The Florian Schneider Collection to Be Auctioned at JULIEN*S November 19

via JULIEN*S
"THE FLORIAN SCHNEIDER COLLECTION
Auction to be held at Musician's Hall of Fame & Museum, Nashville, on November 19
An incredible collection of more than 450 artifacts from the life and career of Florian Schneider, co-founder of the pioneer electronic band Kraftwerk."
Pics and videos featuring some of the gear below, and his Lederhosen for good measure (thanks greg!).
Update: the post has been fully updated with all the synth related gear. This may just well be the longest post to be featured on the site. I wanted to capture all the pics for all of the details including notes, scuffs, and of course serial numbers. It's an interesting look into what he used, the condition he keped his gear, in some cases, how he actually used his gear. Note the phonetics on the keys of the Casio CZ-101 and DX-100. Note the Midi Switch Box with a built-in speaker? What's that about? Note the camouflage key strap on the Korg RK-100 Remote Keyboard. Did he pick it out himself or did the keytar just come with it? Note the repeat midi controllers and the MIDI saxaphones. Wind was his primary instrument. You'll find a ton of the acoustic gear he used in the other listings. This is a fascinating insight into both what and how he used his gear.

Rack Mount Sennheiser VSM-201 Vocoder
Starting Bid $5,000
Estimate $20,000 - $40,000 USD
A late 1970s Sennheiser VSM 201 Vocoder with no serial number from the personal studio and collection of Florian Schneider of Kraftwerk (see images). While it’s said that only a few dozen of these Vocoders were produced, a few examples made it into the hands of forward-thinking musical artists including Herbie Hancock, Daft Punk, and of course, Kraftwerk, who used a VSM-201 like this on their albums Man Machine (1978) and Computerworld (1981). The VSM-201 has an intelligible sound that has not yet been bested by modern gear. Includes power cable. This VSM-201 has been removed from its wooden enclosure (which bears the serial number plate) and modified with a metal rack mount casing, presumably for live use. Requires 240v, IEC power cable not included.
Dimensions: 19 x 9 x 9 inches
Category: Kraftwerk, Equipment
Provenance: PROVENANCE From the Estate of Florian Schneider

New Binary Synth Allows You to Play Binary Code Within Any Given File
video upload by Max Alyokhin
This should go without saying, but don't drop any sensitive, private, or personal files.
"Demo: https://bs.stranno.su
Source code and application principle: https://github.com/MaxAlyokhin/binary...
A web-synthesizer that generates sound from the binary code of any files. It can synthesize sound directly in the browser, or be a generator of MIDI messages to external devices or DAWs, turning any file into a score. All the application code is written in Javascript and along with everything you need is packed into a single .html file of about 750kb. The synthesizer doesn't need internet, it can be downloaded and run locally on any device with a browser.

All data on any computer or smartphone is in the form of files. The contents of these files are ultimately just zeros and ones. And these zeros and ones are basically all the same, so we need an interpreter to extract meaning from these texts. Basically, the file format (.mp3, .docx, etc.) is just a pointer to which interpreter we need to pass the text in order to extract meaning from it.
But what if the file format and the interpreter don't match? In the case of musical experimentation, there have been earlier attempts, for example, to "play" a file through an audio editor, which expectedly produced mostly glitch and noise; it might be more interesting from a conceptual than a musical point of view.
We could go further and write our own interpreter that would look at the files without regard to format, use its own "manner of reading" the original zeros and ones, and on that basis provide a complete system for controlled synthesis of sounds.
The tool, called Binary synth, is available at: https://bs.stranno.su.
The application is a web synthesizer that runs in the browser and is written in Javascript. All the application code along with everything needed is packed into a single .html file of about 750kb.

The Crow Hill Company Adds Roland CR-78 Based RHYTHM MACHINE to VAULTS
video upload by CROW HILL
"Step back to 1978 and discover the iconic Roland CR-78, the first programmable drum machine that changed the way artists approached rhythm. Before the 808 and modern drum machines, the CR-78 gave musicians the power to create and store their own drum patterns. In the hands of artists like Phil Collins, Peter Gabriel, and Blondie, it became iconic. For this Vault, we’ve preserved the much-loved character of the CR-78 and expanded its sonic potential with some tasteful effects."
https://thecrowhillcompany.com/free/
Press release follows:
The Crow Hill Company creates …RHYTHM MACHINE as latest free VAULTS… VI, preserving vintage classic’s character while expanding its sonic potential
EDINBURGH, UK: The Crow Hill Company is proud to announce availability of VAULTS - RHYTHM MACHINE as its latest VI (Virtual Instrument) release ready for all to download and make music with for free for the rest of their lives — literally preserving Roland’s 1978-vintage CR-78 CompuRhythm’s classic character as the Japanese giant of electronic musical instrument manufacturing’s first programmable drum machine (that changed the way artists approached rhythm and, in doing so, stamped its musical mark on a number of notable hit records that subsequently secured its iconic status in the annals of music technology history for all eternity), effectively expanding its sonic potential with some tasteful effects as a result — as of October 1…
Far from stretching the boundaries of truth, it is fair to say that the introduction of Roland’s CR-78 CompuRhythm changed the course of history as the first computer-controlled programmable drum machine. Most rhythm machines before its late-1978 introduction were preset-only affairs, forcing their users to pick from the likes of ‘Bossa Nova’, ‘Rock’, and ‘Waltz’ — more in keeping with the home organ-orientated terminology of the time. The CR-78, however, offered something new — namely, an ability to program rhythm patterns and store them in memory using the external WS-1 programmer optionally offered by Roland. Indeed, its 14 onboard instruments include bass drum, cymbals, hi-hats, rimshot, snare drum, and tambourine alongside several Latin-type sounds, such as bongos, claves, and cowbell — all generated using analogue circuits, giving it a distinctly warm, punchy character. Thanks to the CR-78’s analogue nature, though, the tempo control is not exactly surgical, but this foible only adds to its charm. And, as history has borne out, when placed in the creative musical hands of Blondie, Phil Collins, Peter Gabriel, and others, it became an iconic instrument in its own right.

Synapse Dune 3: 50 Rhythmical Presets. No Talk Sound Demo
video upload by Anton Anru
"🌘 Eclipse Rhythms is a bank of 50 dreamy rhythmical presets for Synapse Audio Dune 3. The main goal was to create atmospheric sounds, somewhat pad-like, but with a rhythmic pattern. This bank focuses primarily on the use of MSEGs
and LFOs to create complex rhythms. You only need to hold down a chord on the keys or
program a MIDI part in your DAW to generate a rich rhythmic pattern.
📦 Get these presets: https://antonanru.sellfy.store/p/dune...
👤 The author of the soundset is skendi (Arseniy Pushkov).
☄️The soundset spans a wide range of tones, from warm, deep and atmospheric textures to clean, punchy, bright and airy timbres.
The sounds include different combinations of oscillators in different modes, such as wavetable and FM, as well as different types of reverbs, delays, distortions, filters, and modulations.
🎛 ModWheel adds expressiveness—brightening the sound, introducing vibrato, or adding extra movement for dynamic performance.
💎 The soundset is suitable for many genres: ambient, electronica, cinematic, retrowave, synthwave, darkwave, IDM, downtempo, pop, chill out, new age, progressive, techno, breaks, jungle, drum and bass, and others. Inspired by Clark, Jon Hopkins, and Arca.
The soundset doesn't include patterns/sequences/chord progressions.
💡 Ensure that you are using the latest software version.
To add presets to the collection, open the plugin Browser, click Menu in the upper left corner, then select Import Folder, and specify the folder on your computer."

U-He Zebralette Free Presets: Rhythmical Bass, Lead, Pad, FX
video upload by Anton Anru
"🌑 Umbra Rhythms is a collection of 25 softly playful, rhythmically dark presets for U-He Zebralette. It was created by pushing MSEG into musical motion: pulses, off-beats, and micro-swells that turn rhythm into tone.
💽 What you get:
Types: 3 Bells, 5 Basses, 2 FXs, 5 Leads, 2 Pads, 4 Rhythms, 4 Strings.
Mood: soft, game-like, dark-tinged, alive and breathing.
Focus: tempo-aware MSEG shapes that add movement even to long notes.
ModWheel does more than brighten the tone. It can reshape MSEG curves, tilt filters, shift wave symmetry, change rhythm density, or morph the contour. Push it and the sound can flip personality while also getting brighter.
📦 Get these patches: https://antonanru.sellfy.store/p/zebr...
🛎 The pack is free, but any donation is appreciated.
👤 The author of the soundset is usefull (Kirill Tsygankov).

Bad Gear - Why did they do this???
video upload by AudioPilz
"Welcome to Bad Gear, the show about the world’s most-h*ted audio tools. In a time before Volcas, the Clone Wars and Moog becoming just another specimen in InMusic’s butterfly collection the granddaddy of synth brands brought an instrument to the market that can be considered the blueprint for the music tech landscape to come.
Today we are going to talk about Minitaur. This 2012 analog mono synth and domesticated modern take on the iconic Taurus bass foot pedals of 70s prog rock fame not only comes with the pitch range of a Bob Dylan harmonica solo, it will also keep you glued to your computer screen like their CPU-munching Mariana plugin. Behringer UB-Xa: 64 Arp Presets Vintage & Modern. Sound Demo
video upload by Anton Anru
"🌌 Analog Flow is a collection of 64 arp presets for the Behringer UB-Xa analog synthesizer. The bank covers a wide range of arpeggio timbres: warm, deep, dreamy, soft, noisy, bright, dark, distorted, cold, metallic. You can also disable the arpeggio mode and get a collection of diverse plucks.
Since the UB-Xa is a recreation of a vintage classic, this collection embraces its retro character—highlighting detuning, subtle noise, and analog warmth to evoke the sonic aesthetics of the 70s and 80s.
The patches are infused with nostalgic charm and are perfect for adding that vintage soul to your tracks.
📦 Get these patches: https://antonanru.sellfy.store/p/ub-x...
📼 One of the unique features of the UB-Xa is its Atrophy profiles—emulations of various stages of vintage wear and drift. All presets and audio demos were created using the default Profile 1, but you're encouraged to explore them with other profiles to discover variations in brightness, tuning, and stereo width. This adds another layer of expression and depth to the sounds.
🎛 Each preset is performance-ready, with velocity sensitivity and ModWheel assignments mapped for expressive control. The ModWheel introduces additional modulations — such as brightness or movement — offering creative flexibility for both studio production and live performance.

Whimsical Patching // 4. Utility Drum Machine
video upload by Whimsical Raps
All parts here
from Dani:
"When I take inventory on why modular synths remain compelling to me, it is because the format puts one in direct conversation with _voltage_. As mentioned in other videos, every signal in a modular synth is voltage -- some of it moves quickly enough to hear, some of it moves slowly and is excellent for modulation, but pushing this common denominator to its edges often leads me to make choices that a computer or desktop synth simply cannot facilitate with the same improvisational ease. But I also love working with computers as an end-of-chain glue -- not just for editing or effects, but to bring a new set of possibilities to the playground.
This video is a supercut of two processes:
a. The core is a conversation between Cold Mac and Just Friends. Just Friends provides cycling envelopes and pulses, which run through a self-patched Cold Mac. Though Cold Mac is primarily known as a utility module, cross-patching its wavefolders and slews creates gnarly delights out of simple input signals. Adding the inherent rhythmic interrelation of envelopes from different channels of Just Friends to the mix can quickly create a fuzzed-out chaotic drum machine with low subs and bursts of noise. Modulating SURVEY, both by hand and voltage, reveals a world of timbral shapes.
b. While (a.) was exciting and revelatory, it was missing something. Whenever I sequence drums, I love to layer percussive hits with additional samples -- so I took to @kriista's Data Knot, which packages FluCoMa's real-time descriptor analysis tools into an army of useful Max/MSP objects. Data Knot allowed me to use audio from my 'utility drum machine' to crawl through slices of @natesmithdrumsofficial's Pocket Change and a Bonnie Raitt isolated vocal track, which filled things out in a really fun way.
Both the original modular-only recording and the responses of Data Knot are layered to create this hybrid result which, to me, feels really organic and fluid."

Introducing Stem Ripper - 8 Channel Audio Recorder
video upload by ALM TV
Check with dealers on the right for availability.
Chapters:
0:00 - Intro
0:52 - Setting up a Multitrack Recording

7:07 - Mixing and Editing
7:38 - Final Mix
8:01 - Outro
"The 'Stem Ripper' is a compact 8 channel audio recorder designed for immediate full patch recording without the need for external hardware. Capture all audio stems of a patch with ease.
In this video we multitrack a basic patch using the Stem Ripper then copy the stems to a computer for basic mixing and editing in Logic Pro.
Patch stems are recorded directly to a micro SD card which can then be easily transferred to a computer to mix, edit or archive patches. Each input is recorded as an individual track in a 16bit 44.1kHz multichannel date stamped WAV file. Record time is limited only by SD Card size. Two additional tracks within the output WAV contain a configurable stereo mix down of the inputs. The module has large 20Vpp per input headroom with LED clip indication if exceeded.
An optional 2HP 'Thru' output expander duplicates the 8 inputs to a row of unbuffered outputs, eliminating the potential need for stacking patch cables at the expense of more case real estate.
A suitable 64Gb SD card is included with the unit."

"The German-made Hartmann Neuron is a polyphonic synthesizer that broke new ground using a new form of synthesis and sound-modeling they say was based on technology found in neural networks. What the Neuron actually does is it analyzes audio files (samples) and creates digital computer models of these sounds which can then be re-synthesized and processed using the extensive amount of on-board data-wheels and joysticks with control of more 'musical' sonic aspects such as instrument shape, size and acoustic behavior. The joysticks allow for real-time tweaking of up to three parameters at once - 3D modeling in a true 5.1 surround sound environment."
