Velocité - full album (Mike Oldfield meets Air & Tame Impala)

video upload by Caught In Joy

"Inspired by the fluid energy of Tangerine Dream, the layered elegance of Mike Oldfield, and the dreamlike pulse of Air and Tame Impala, this album explores the strange intersections of speed and stillness.

Velocité is a deep, cinematic dive into motion, memory, and momentum—an hour-long journey shaped by analog synths, ambient textures, and hypnotic rhythms.

Created live and mixed with obsessive attention to detail, Velocité captures that fleeting feeling of being in transit—somewhere between the past and the future. Best experienced in one uninterrupted listen.

Composed, mixed and mastered by Caught In Joy. Karol Pokojowczyk uses Bitwig, Moog One, Moog Matriarch, Prophet-10, 3x Moog Mavis, TipTop Buchla modules, Make Noise Strega, Strymon Magneto, Arturia V-Collection and an army of guitar pedals. Performed and recorded live on tape with TEAC 80-8.

Timeline:
00:00:00 - 1. Velocité
00:10:16 - 2. Clockwork Pastoral
00:17:11 - 3. Microfilm Memory
00:26:36 - 4. Carbon Copies of You

NAMM 2024: Modal Carbon8 Sounds Only

video upload by sonicstate

"Jim Heywood from Earmonkey music responded to multiple requests via our Instagram comments to take a closer look at the Modal Electronics Carbon8.

It looks like after a period of uncertainty, that Modal will be back, and the Carbon8 will be in production.

Carbon 8 employs over 40 complex waveform algorithms, and is geared towards the more aggressive and modern spectrum of sounds. With two discrete oscillators, the Carbon 8 has a similar form factor to earlier Modal Synths, but has a new mixing stage with independent level controls for each oscillator."

NAMM 2024 - Modal - Carbon 8

video upload by sonicstate

"Christian from Modal Electronics unveiled their latest synthesizer, the Carbon 8, at NAMM 2024. This synthesizer is the culmination of Modal's years of experience and knowledge in developing wavetable and virtual analog synthesizers. The Carbon 8 boasts a sound engine that is twice as powerful as their previous models, the Argon 8 and Cobalt 8. It features two distinctive oscillators that generate up to 56 digital core waveforms, allowing users to mix algorithms and wavetables in one synthesizer. The Carbon 8 is designed to cater to modern music styles with rough, edgy sounds, while still offering features like a sequencer, arpeggiator, and various effects.

For more information on the Carbon 8 and other Modal Electronics products, you can visit their website. Stay tuned for updates on future projects from Modal at events like Superbooth. And for existing customers, Modal will continue to provide customer support and their app, which will be updated with a Carbon 8 version upon release.

"Christian at Modal Electronics gave us a preview of the forthcoming 8 voice experimental digital synth Carbon 8.

Carbon 8 employs over 40 complex waveform algorithms, and is geared towards the more agressive and harsh modern spectrum of sounds. With two discrete oscillators, the Carbon 8 has a similar form factor to earlier Modal Synths, but has a new mixing stage with independent level controls for each oscillator. While the synth is in development, it already boasts a total of 33 filters to give total control over sound shaping, a 512 note sequencer, arpeggiator and 26 effect algorithms.

Superbooth 2023: Modal - Limited Edition Cobalt And Argon 8

"At Superbooth 2023, Sonic State caught up with Christian from Modal Electronics who showcased the limited edition Argon 8 and Cobalt 8 synthesizers. In celebration of Modal Electronics' 10-year anniversary, the Argon 8 pays homage to the Modal 002 with its color scheme and comes with firmware version 3.0 and new features. The limited edition synthesizer will be available in stores in September and there will be only 100 units worldwide. It will be priced the same as the regular Argon 8, and it is only available in the 37 key version.

The Cobalt 8 synthesizer, which comes in the dark color scheme of the Modal 008, will be availablearound Christmas time. Modal Electronics is currently seeking customer feedback to decide if they will release the Cobalt 8 in a 37 key version, 61 key version, or as a module. If you want to get your hands on these limited edition Modals, keep an eye out for their release at the end of 2023."

The Boss DM-2W: A simple delay perfect for synths (no talk)

video upload by Richard DeHove

"Glorious random noodlings with the Boss DM-2W Wazacraft delay pedal and the Erica Synths DB-01. To some an 11-minute no-talking video with a three-knob delay pedal might seem excessive. Well, maybe so. But for delay pedal nuts (like me, and probably you if you're also reading the caption) it's only just enough. Even then I didn't use the delay time input, direct out or do much knob twiddlings The reason is that this pedal sounds beautiful and makes you want to play music, not twiddle knobs.

There's no hint of line-level input issues (as you get with some pedals) and there's plenty of wet level to play with (unlike the Boss RE-202 which is a bit quiet imo). The nearest competitor that I've used extensively would be the famous MXR Carbon Copy. I had both the standard issue, then the deluxe version, but I think the DM-2W is a better fit for synth, not as dark and a more pleasant feedback tone.

I am biased though since the original DM-2 was the first pedal I ever bought. That unit sat on top of a whole series of synths starting with the Korg Mono/Poly. I played live with it many times, always fearing I'd mismanage the feedback and blow something up :) The new version seems equally dangerous! Not sure what happened to the OG pedal in the end, I even went on a hunt through some old boxes a few weeks back, but no luck. I'm sure it's out there somewhere still going.

The audio here is just as you see it: The DB-01 going through the DM-2W with no other effects or processing.

0:00 Pattern 1
0:45 High feedback
3:25 Heartbeat

4:12 Adjusting the tempo

5:10 Ambient noodle

Moog Mavis: Modular Mood (50 custom patches). Sound Demo

video upload by Anton Anru

"Welcome to the soundset for a semi-modular synth Moog Mavis.
It is a collection of 50 patches: 15 Leads, 14 Plucks, 12 Basses, 9 Drones. There is a wide range of timbres inside the pack: simple and complex, dark and aggressive, vintage and modern, noisy/distorted and soft, musical and experimental, harmonic and inharmonic.
📗 Get the soundset: https://antonanru.sellfy.store/moog/

The patches are suitable for many genres: Techno, Ambient, House, Deep, Progressive, Trance, Minimal, IDM, Downtempo, Lounge Chill Out, Electronica, Dark/Noise, Industrial, Breakbeat, Drum and Bass, and others.

The soundset is presented in the form of a PDF-Document, A4 format. Each page contains notes that explain how the patch works, what parameters worth tweaking during the playback, how to develop the timbre during a performance. If you make all the settings consciously and try the things mentioned in the notes, you will learn many things about the synth and discover its true depth.

Each patch has an audio example, it helps to understand how the timbre is supposed to sound.

To recreate these patches, you need up to 8 patch cables. If you are going to use an external keyboard/sequencer, you will also need a stackable cable or a splitter/multiplier. The document includes detailed information about using an external keyboard with CV/Gate outputs.

Custom Red Roland Juno-106

Note: Auction links are affiliate links for which the site may be compensated.

via this auction

"Completely overhauled Roland Juno 106 in a custom red livery. Synth is as close to brand new as you can get. This is not your average restoration and has countless hours of excruciating detail put into it. The power supply was fully rebuilt with 5000 hour Nichicon caps, all electrolytic and ceramic caps replaced along with the voltage regulators and dual regulator controller. All 17 original ALPS sliders were completely disassembled, thoroughly cleaned, lubricated with quality silicone grease and reassembled. They have an incredibly smooth and firm feel. The panel board also features 34 new tactile switches, and 3 new alps 2 position slide switches. The 3 mini sliders on the bender board were also disassembled, cleaned, and lubricated.

Every board was stripped, thoroughly degreased, and washed. They have a glossy sheen appearance like they would from the factory. All 6 voice chips are original and have had the conformal coating stripped. Each voice chip was completely reflowed and installed on pin headers for easy removal or swapping. The synth was burn-in tested for 8 hour periods on several different days, absolutely no issues. CPU board has new battery installed. The entire keybed assembly has been completely stripped. Every single key was hand washed/degreased and polished. The keys are the whitest I have seen, this board appears to have very little use and was kept away from the sun. All rubber dome contacts despite working, were removed, and thoroughly cleaned. The carbon tracks on the keyboard assembly were also cleaned. This is a future proofing process which will insure several more decades of reliable note triggering.

A 3 prong standard IEC receptacle has been installed and a quality brand new power cable is included. All solder joints have been inspected and common control areas have been reflowed. All potentiometers have been cleaned. Full calibration performed, no crackle in the chorus! The synth is 100% functional and is in perfect cosmetic and electronic condition.

This is a unique collectors piece."

Roland Jupiter-8

"This is an early 12 bit unit, pre DCB, serial number xxx949...

Diagnostics and repair performed by Jareth Lackey of Synthpro Restorations, LLC.

Service included repair of an oscillator that wouldn’t track, a wave shape circuit repair, replacement of two op amps, five interface buttons, oscillator sync switch , one broken key, and the save battery which was recently replaced on a separate trip to Synthpro.

Recently gone through, every function works as they should, and the factory presets were restored due to the battery replacement

The bottom of E4 key is chipped, shown in pictures, and the pulse width modulation slider wiggles loose, also shown in pictures. The slider must be stabilized when using. Despite this, it has a smooth reaction, and is not a wiper or carbon track issue but a broken actuator. It works as it should otherwise.

Mono Lake

Published on Jun 1, 2020 CatSynth TV

"Scenes from Mono Lake in California, set to original electronic music by Amanda Chaudhary.

'Mono Lake is a saline soda lake in Mono County, California, formed at least 760,000 years ago as a terminal lake in an endorheic basin. The lack of an outlet causes high levels of salts to accumulate in the lake. These salts also make the lake water alkaline...
...Mono Lake is a highly alkaline lake, or soda lake. Alkalinity is a measure of how many bases are in a solution, and how well the solution can neutralize acids. Carbonate (CO32-) and bicarbonate (HCO3−) are both bases. Hence, Mono Lake has a very high content of dissolved inorganic carbon. Through supply of calcium ions (Ca2+), the water will precipitate carbonate-minerals such as calcite (CaCO3). Subsurface waters enter the bottom of Mono Lake through small springs. High concentrations of dissolved calcium ions in these subsurface waters cause huge amounts of calcite to precipitate around the spring orifices.[8] The tufa originally formed at the bottom of the lake. It took many decades or even centuries to form the well-recognized tufa towers. When lake levels fell, the tufa towers came to rise above the water surface and stand as the majestic pillars seen today'

The Casio XW-P1 Appreciation Video

Published on Dec 24, 2018 ProckGnosis

"This is just an appreciation video for the Casio XW-P1, which I decided to sell. Like a lot of Casio products, there is some really inventive and creative work that went into the synth that often goes unnoticed or underappreciated (by myself even).

I bought it mostly as a cheap keyboard option for gigging with a "classic rock" band, and though I was curious about the sequencer, arpeggiator (which I don't mention in the video at all, unfortunately), and phrase sequencer, I had little reason to use any of those features, and therefore I didn't explore them so much. And that's unfortunate, because I think they are some of the stronger features on the synth, and would likely be appealing for someone wanting to get started with some DAW-less sequencing for not much money. I'm just more of a DAW-full kind of guy.

Loose Timeline for the Video
Intro - 03:08
The Step Sequencer - 11:30
The Phrase Sequencer - 16:16
The Drawbar Organ - 18:00
The Hex Layer Synth - 20:16
The Solo Synth - 22:58
Some Final Thoughts - 27:06
Bonus - Alt versions of ProckGnosis Theme with the XW-P1 - 28:22

For folks even more curious about the keyboard, I've copied Casio's specs on the XW-P1 below, though the formatting was mostly lost.

Kilpatrick Audio Carbon Live Jam 1

Published on Feb 12, 2017 Jae Ryan

"First jam with the Kilpatrick Audio Carbon. It's sequencing the Prophet 6 (arpeggio), OB-6 (hi-pass bass) and the Model D (melodic arpeggio) and sending clock to the TR-8 but drums are sequenced from the TR-8! I haven't figured out nearly all this machine can do yet and this doesn't take advantage of the bias tracks or song mode. It's just a simple repeating sequence and hopefully in the next jam i'll explore the scenes function more deeply. A transposed version of the sequence at some point would have made it much better!

I forgot to arm recording on the Juno so what you hear when I play it is strictly just the wet signal of it hitting the Strymons. It sounded ok that way and I was much to lazy to re-do! The Strymon pedals were the ONLY effects used and they were not used sparingly.

If anyone has any questions about Carbon or Suggestions/Tips if you're a user that would be fantastic! Otherwise, thanks for listening and send me some links to stuff if you think I'd dig it!"
