FOUR SEAS // A Multi-Voice Mega Wavetable Oscillator Powerhouse from Ferry Island Modular

video upload by DivKid

"Here we have Ferry Island Modular's first release 'Four Seas', which is designed, engineered and manufactured in Finland. It's a real power house of a sound source, suiting to quickly grabbing some waves to patch with or for deep sound design tweaking. Everything is knob/button per function with no menus, making complex behaviours, modulations and sounds simple to access. There's LOTS of examples in this video, see the timing index below for all that's covered ... yet I'm sure there's lots left to uncover with all the options this presents."

BE A BETTER MODULATOR // Understanding Eurorack Modulation with the Thonk TRIPLE MOD

video upload by DivKid

"In this video we’ll break down how common types of modulation for sound synthesis work, how to make the most of them creatively and musically. We’ll do so while demoing the new Triple Mod DIY module from Thonk. Whether it’s creating multi-phonic layered patches needed multiple envelopes, understanding how a Turing Machine works and performing with it, understanding and making Sample & Hold melodic, creating chain reactions with EOC ‘end of cycle’ triggers … there’s lots in this video applicable to LOTS of other modules."

32 analogue filter modes! The Matrix VCF from AJH Synth // "Eurorack's most versatile filter"?

video upload by DivKid

"Here's the new Matrix VCF from AJH Synth that presents a pretty wild 32 filter modes (or 16x2) and a hugely versatile tonal range all built on the foundation circuit of the filter section from the Oberheim Matrix 12. Additional modes and features were added and the option to self oscillate everything with an overdrive circuit in the resonance path inspired by the Formanta Polivoks synthesiser. Coupling the 16 modes with the option for two distinct resonance characters, along with all the modulation options and on board VCA offers a wealth of patch potential and we explore plenty of uses cases for unique and more advanced options in the video."

Creating HUGE oscillator tones with OCCULT (+ Ouija & Wand) & the Nekyia Circuits Eurorack range

video upload by DivKid

"Here we have the 3 new Nekyia Circuits Eurorack modules - Occult, Ouija and Wand. We'll focus on the star of the show here, the TZFM, sub octave generating, Ian Fritz double pulser wave shaping and external crossfading oscillator OCCULT! However we use Wand to crossfade at audio rates into new tones and Ouija for some musical ring mod too.

It's been a pleasure to check out the existing modules and to use those alongside the new ones here. As always the focus is to provide ideas and techniques while demonstrating how things work. So I hope you can take some of the patches to try out.

Instruō - tràigh [Signature Edition]

video upload by Instruō

Update: DivKid video added below.

"Hello!
Jason here.
Thank you for watching this video :)

This Signature Edition limited re-release of the tràigh low-pass filter module is available for purchase direct from Etsy:
https://www.etsy.com/uk/listing/18233...

I am producing a limited batch which will be available for purchase while stock lasts.

This revised module was developed as a creative side project over the past month or two as a means of dealing with the unfortunate situation of having a very large pet greyhound with a relatively large diagnosis of cancer.
Winston was confirmed to have a stage 2 soft cell sarcoma earlier this year. He underwent a surgery on September 24th during which the tumour was successfully removed. (He has recovered very well and quickly!)
Due to the location of the sarcoma there is a high likelihood of cancer cells remaining at a microscopic level. If left unchecked they will likely return as a tumour with a chance of metastasising.
Winston began a 4 week treatment of radiotherapy on November 4th.
As of writing this we are now past the half way point and he is responding very well with no significant side effects presenting.
Each treatment requires full general anaesthetic, so I have a very dopey boy every Monday, Wednesday and Friday for the entire month of November.
The vets do provide him with some roast chicken each session when he wakes up. So he seems quite happy with his current unusual routine.

THE DIVKID DROID MODULATION HUB! // A Der Mann Mit Der Maschine DROID patch that's saving me HP!

video upload by DivKid

"DOWNLOAD THE PATCH & GUIDE (FOR FREE) HERE // https://divkid.gumroad.com/l/TheDivKi...

Hello and welcome to this video on the absolutely mega DIVKID DROID MODULATION HUB! It's a 'patch'* made by DROID power user effiksmusic (fantastic work from him) that turns a DROID master and P2B8 controller into a super mega uber hub of modulation with 4 envelopes, 2 random generators and 2 LFOs each with some really clever and smart twists and chained functions to elevate them further.

The goal of getting into the DROID system for me was a mission to save HP, saving those precious HPs (space in the modular system) by combining lots of common functions that I use all the time, while also adding flexible additional features to them that would otherwise take more modules and more HP. This distills these modulators down into a simple interface that just provides the controls I need (and you might need too) to make the most of all of this modulation.

It also does that lovely thing of encouraging you to try some new things as the extra functions on each modulation type are right here built into the DROID patch only a knob turn or button hold away. See the timing index below to see what makes this special and of course, watch the video ... but you're doing that anyway if you're reading this aren't you?

*'Patch' is the term Der Mann Mit Der Maschine use for how these modules are set up. Creating them in their editor is similar to patching, but you can think of it as the firmware (it's not the firmware) or modes that you load onto the module (simple drag and drop onto a microSD) to define what all the inputs, outputs and controls are doing."

The fascinating world of PULSAR SYNTHESIS with Plume from hieroglyphic

video upload by DivKid

"Have you heard of Pulsar Synthesis? If not come and learn along about what it is and how to use it and if you have then here's a refresher and some patch examples with Plume.

Plume is a new pulsar synthesis oscillator, think of it like a micro sound oscillator or modulator from new company hieroglyphic. Pulsar Synthesis is like granular synthesis but with synthesised waveforms treat as individual pulses rather than using samples like granular synthesis does. Any questions leave them in the comments.

This is one of my "3 patches with" style demos that distills things down to just 3 patches for a more condensed video. If you'd like to see something more in depth, or further patch examples, let us know in the comments."

https://www.hiero-glyphic.com/plume

"A fully-featured pulsar synthesizer for the Eurorack modular system. Using principles adopted from the Curtis Roads white-paper Sound Composition with Pulsars, Plume presents an approach to sound and rhythm that is somewhere between oscillator, granulator, and clock generator.

·96kHz/24-bit stereo outputs.

·Range switch (HI/LO) for use as VCO, LFO, or both.

·Formant and Cluster controls for complex output spectra.

·Continuously variable output wave shapes.

·West-Coast style wave folder.

·2 types of output masking for advanced spatialisation.

·Continuously variable pulsar window shape and amount.

Instruō Introduces dåpf Dual All-Pass Filter Effects Processor Eurorack Module

via Instruō

"Introducing dåpf, the first dedicated effects processor in the Instruō product line. The Instruō dåpf is a set of two analogue all-pass filters.

You might be asking yourself, “What is the point of a filter that passes everything?” All-pass filters don’t actually attenuate frequency amplitudes directly, but rather alter the phase relationship of frequencies across the spectrum. All-pass filter stages appear in the vast majority of voltage-controlled filter topologies as well as serving as a core building block within DSP.

The normalled I/O of dåpf allows for cascaded or independent use of the two all-pass filter circuits, offering everything from classic phase-shifting to psychoacoustic stereo enhancement and synthetic Doppler effect.

• Two parallel all-pass filters
• Independent attenuverters for voltage control
• 1-Pole/2-Pole configuration for left channel
• Cascaded normalisation
• Global 1 volt per octave tracking"

Instruō - dåpf Overview

video upload by Instruō

"This video is long... But the second half is very much optional expansion and deep dive into some theory of all-pass filters.
The first few examples are much quicker, more practical examples of dåpf patched.
Thanks for watching :)"

Wow! I didn't know All Pass Filters could do this // 3 Patches with dapf from Instruo
video upload by DivKid

"I'm always striving to learn and explore with sound and music and dapf (the new Eurorack module from Instruo) certainly brought a big slap of school day into DivKid HQ. I was aware of all pass filters, getting past the funny idea that "all" frequencies pass (so what's the point?) and knowing they were use for phase shifts. What I didn't know is how core and important to filter topologies they were and how creatively useful they could be.

Some exploring later and here we are, with 3 patches that really show the power of phase manipulation. While dapf makes a fantastically chewy phaser FX unit I didn't expect it would be such a great stereo expander for a single VCO nor did I know I could be MUSICAL and totally analogue 3 operator FM/PM (like the digital Yamaha DX and Casio CZ phase/FM methods) synth."

A "forgettable" Buchla Filter Circuit is Reborn // 3 Patches with Pas-Isel from Dwyfor Tech

video upload by DivKid

"Pas-Isel is Welsh for Low Pass, handy that when this is a Eurorack filter module.

Dwyfor Tech are a new company who have taken inspiration from what has been said to be a "forgettable" Buchla filter circuit, smashed that into a Korg MS-50 diode ring for a resonance path and masses of lovely guitar pedal style overdrive and they've made that a Eurorack filter with bags of character, and a different tone and circuit design (it's really multiple high shelf EQs).

In the video we share some of the key points in the story of what this circuit was based on and a bit about the company. You can read more about it all on my website in this interview // https://divkidvideo.com/story-time-dw...

'3 Patches with ... ' is a video series where I pull focus on just 3 things with a piece of gear, set of functions or techniques. More of these to come alongside the larger in depth demos in the future.

You can grab a DIY kit from Pas-Isel (and request and assembled one directly) here // https://reverb.com/shop/dwyfortech

"Pas-Isel is a four-pole lowpass filter for Eurorack modular systems, with an architecture unlike any other. Combining design elements from Buchla and Korg, this diode-based VCF uses highpass filters in op-amp negative feedback loops to generate its signature 'wooly jumper' -24dB lowpass response.

Pas-Isel is entirely realised with through-hole components for ease of assembly. The Wave Transformer // EarthQuaker's Boldest Device Yet ( & it isn't even a pedal)

video upload by Jorb

"I love a lot about this module.

Its a rock solid oscillator, which yes there are a ton of them, but this needs to be if its gonna compete. And the waveshaping from the transform circuit gives it enough of its own character to stand out.

I think its priced competitively, it does all the things other up-market "standard" oscillators do (built-in attenuators for modulation, hard and soft sync, built in sub) and it has so much of its own character.

If there's any downside, its kind of a lot of HP? But not really when you consider the sum of its parts. On all fronts, we got a banger.

Complex Morphing VCO, Subs, FM & more // The Wave Transformer by Earthquaker Devices (Eurorack Demo)
video upload by DivKid

"Well this was a surprise! Earthquaker Devices (makers of fine pedal FX) making a Eurorack oscillator. Yes they made the Afterneath module, but as that was a modular version of a pedal I didn't expect they come guns glazing with a big, bold VCO!

I first saw The Wave Transformer by Earthquaker Devices at Knobcon, where they brought it along for an early look and sat playing with it at the show I knew they were onto something that sounded great. Well now it's released here we are with a demo.

The Wave Transformer is a 20HP Eurorack oscillator, it's analog, with onboard complex, transforming wave shaping, sub generators with unique shapes, FM, sync, LOTS of precise tuning control and options to wave shape external sources, saturate audio and track subs from your other oscillators. I've had lots of fun with this one!"

"The Wave Transformer
Eurorack Transfiguration Oscillator
$199.00

The Wave Transformer is an analog, vintage-voiced, voltage-controlled oscillator with over 8 octaves of accurate pitch tracking. It has 7 simultaneous wave outputs, including a unique Complex output.

The Transform control morphs from a basic waveform through many strange iterations into a complex, gnarled mass of audio mutations at the Complex output. You can yield countless variations on these permutations by combining this novel circuit with Hard Sync, Soft Sync, Linear FM and Exponential FM. Additionally, you can mute the source waveform to use the circuit as a harmonic gate/VCA, rendering The Wave Transformer a voice unto itself. If that is not enough, there is a Shape Insert that allows you to transform external oscillations and modular-level audio sources."

Modbap Modular Osiris WavPak Volume 3 by Learning Modular’s Chris Meyer

Press release follows:

Modbap Modular announces availability of Osiris WavPak Volume 3, carefully crafted by Chris Meyer to integrate seamlessly with Eurorack module namesake

LOS ANGELES, CA, USA: Modbap Modular is proud to announce availability of Osiris WavPak Volume 3 — carefully crafted by Learning Modular’s Chris Meyer to integrate seamlessly with the black-owned electronic music instrument manufacturer’s own Osiris BI-FIDELITY WAVETABLE OSC (originally introduced to a captive audience at Knobcon Number Nine, Hyatt Regency Schaumburg, IL, USA, September 10-12, 2021), providing four banks of all-new custom 32 x 32 wavetables which have been meticulously curated and designed to expand anyone’s approach to wavetable synthesis using its Eurorack module namesake — as of November 2…

As the owner of Learning Modular, an online resource to help anyone master their modular synthesizer, Chris Meyer is perfectly positioned to help expand anyone’s approach to wavetable synthesis using Modbap Modular’s Osiris, operating powerfully in and of itself as a (frequency modulation- and phase modulation-including) seven-plus TIMBRE MODE 12HP BI-FIDELITYTM WAVETABLE OSC (oscillator) module, neatly-packed with an independent sub-oscillator, LOFI processing, extensive CV (control voltage) modulation capabilities, a PITCH quantiser, four banks of 32 x 32 wavetables, the ability to load user wavetables via Micro SD card (not included), and its own free open-source wavetable editor (OsirisEdit). After all, Chris Meyer is the talented individual responsible for creating the-then-trailblazing Vector Synthesis technology behind the 1986-vintage Prophet VS DIGITAL VECTOR SYNTHESIZER, supposedly intended to revive the flagging fortunes of US synth ‘giant’ Sequential for whom he worked in an engineering role. Subsequent stints at Digidesign, Music Maker Publications, and Tom Oberheim’s Marion Systems soon ensued, before becoming the Chief Engineer at the now-defunct Roland R&D US while serving also as Technical Chairman of the MIDI Manufacturer’s Association. A transition into the video and film industries followed thereafter as his storied career continued, coming full circle to ultimately end up where he originally started — playing with modular synthesizers.

Duly derived from Chris Meyer’s sizeable studio modular synthesizer — affectionately called The Monster, the four banks of all-new custom 32 x 32 wavetables included in Osiris WavPak Volume 3 are a result of undergoing a meticulous sampling process drawing upon the talents of one of the industry’s leading experts to offer Osiris owners a wide range of timbral possibilities catering to different sonic aesthetics: BANK A — otherwise known as the ‘East Coast’ bank — features wavetables that have been carefully crafted as a result of working with Livewire Electronics AFG’s Animated Pulses and Alien Saws waveforms, as well as Serge-filtered waveforms, using techniques such as audio rate waveform crossfading to offer a diverse palette of sounds, ranging from smooth and evolving textures to aggressive and cutting tones; BANK B — the ‘West Coast’ bank — incorporates techniques like Serge rectification, wave folding, and Serge resonant EQ, the resultinwavetables providing a more experimental and abstract sonic experience suited to those interested in pushing the boundaries of sound design and diving into harmonious tones and textures; BANK C — Formants — focuses on different vowel sounds with a sound design approach anchored around both digital and analogue formant filters for creating expressive vocal-like textures and tones that are ideal for adding a human touch to compositions or exploring more abstract and otherworldly sounds; and BANK D — Harmonics — utilises tube overdrive, filter banks inspired by both Buchla and Moog stylings, as well as featuring analogue and digital additive oscillators.

On the face of it, then, the results are all a testament to the expert craftsmanship involved in ensuring the highest-quality sound production possible. Put it this way: Osiris WavPak Volume 3’s four sound banks were sampled at 96kHz, perfectly aligning with the Osiris BI-FIDELITY WAVETABLE OSC module’s unique, high-quality 96kHz sample rate operation. Ultimately, users can enjoy pristine audio clarity, enabling exploration of full depth sonic landscapes.

Lending themselves a knowing nod in the direction of Chris Meyer’s trailblazing achievements, the X-axis in all the banks contain different waveforms, while the Y-axis introduces different harmonics for each X-wave; the harmonic series used in Osiris WavPak Volume 3 are: H1 (root up), H2 (one octave up), H3 (one octave, plus perfect fifth), H4 (two octaves up), H5 (two octaves, plus major third), H6 (two octaves, plus perfect fifth), and H8 (three octaves up). It is worth noting that in some cases — especially the filter banks, formant filters, and resonant EQ — the waveform also changes with ‘harmonic’ on the Y-axis, allowing for sculpting and refining patches with extraordinary detail thanks to this precise control over harmonic content. Modbap Modular encourages experimentation with different modulation sources patched to its Osiris BI-FIDELITY WAVETABLE OSC module’s WAVE Y to further enhance sonic explorations with the texture-rich Osiris WavPak Volume 3 — think velocity/accent from a sequencer or keyboard, a mod wheel, aftertouch, ribbon controller, or even a sample & hold triggered on each new note to create dynamic and evolving timbres that respond to playing style.

Osiris WavPak Volume 3 is available for free as a digital download exclusively from Modbap Modular’s online Shop here: https://www.modbap.com/products/osiris-wavpak-vol-3-by-chris-meyer

Watch Learning Modular’s Chris Meyer mentioning the-then-upcoming Osiris WavPak Volume 3 — while talking about Modbap Modular’s Osiris BI-FIDELITY WAVETABLE OSC module as a new way to wavetable — at Knobcon Number Eleven, Chicagoland, USA, September 8-10, 2023 here: https://youtu.be/tYkDT82wxx0

a NEW way to WAVETABLE! with Alias Zone & Osiris // Chris Meyer & ModBap at Knobcon 2023

video upload by DivKid

"Chris Meyer of Learning Modular & Alias Zone has A NEW WAY TO WAVETABLE!

Chris has been working on a new X and Y based wavetable systems that does two fascinating things, firstly it "samples" his whole large studio system while keeping that performable and responsive in the ModBap Modular Osiris and secondly he's using harmonics and interval sets to create morphing tunings within those sounds too.

The WavPak is out now through the ModBap site here // https://bit.ly/WavPak3-ChrisMeyer"
