Soundtrack vibes - Plinky with Meska Presets

video upload by Making Sound Machines

"Channeling #soundtrack vibes in this slow-building Sunday jam, recorded late last night!

This is our second clip in a small series showing off the new #Plinky sound bank created by by @Meska_Statik. The Bank is a free download at https://plinkysynth.com/presets/ and works for all generations of #Plinky.

It contains 32 presets exploring lush #delay, cavernous #reverb, pitch drift and gnarly #saturation. For Meska's overview of all sounds, and a number of awesome patch from scratch videos, check out [this video].

Plinky is synched via MIDI clock to our #Stolperbeats drum trigger sequencer for #Eurorack, playing back a recorded note sequence. Stolperbeats is in extra sloppy "Kabuki" mode, suggested by our friend and expert breakbeat researcher @beatsbykabuki: Kick and Snare are super laid back, Hihats are a bit rushed, except when they play at the same time- creating this awesome push-and-pull #groove. In this patch, Enrica tweaks the sensitivity on Plinky to slowly build up a wall of sound.

Plinky's pitch CV feeds the lovely-sounding @Befacosynth evenVCO through their A*B+C VCA for a low-frequency, subby bass line.

The drum sounds are played back using the Samples II module by @soundforce_nicolas and processed through our #Farbshaper and #Farbhighpass modules. The shaper adds some extra dirt, the transistor ladder highpass is used with the kick envelope to get a ducking effect by modulating its cutoff.

The metering tool at the top right is a @vaskiembedded 2HP Lights Stereo Visualizer, an incredibly handy audio visualisation module. Our friends Stijn and Priscilla of #TiNRS @thisisnotrocketscience3942 made the one-of-a-kind Eurorack case from a #FenixIV enclosure.

Plinky is an #expressive #polyphonic #touch #synthesizer, designed by mmalex and available as a #DIY kit from @ThonkSynthDIY"

UVI Introduces Noctua Multi-layer Instrument

video uploads by UVI

Venus Theory spent a year making a free plugin...

video upload by Venus Theory

"Howdy! Today I want to talk about the project that's taken up the last year of my life that you can get right now for the low price of free thanks to my friends at UVI.
Noctua ► https://bit.ly/noctuavt"

"From the mind of Venus Theory, renowned sound designer and YouTube creator, Noctua combines the worlds of hardware synthesis and boutique effects to realize an exquisite collection of hand-built instruments, ready to create sprawling soundscapes and evolving cinematic universes, rich with detail and movement.

Dive into an incredible multi-layer instrument built on hand-crafted samples, push and pull each layer individually with discrete microtonal sequencers, transform them with custom designed single-knob effect chains, and then finalize your sound with delay, reverb, and master buss processing - all from a single, refined and highly focused tool.

All sounds in Noctua were designed, recorded and processed by Venus Theory to capture the raw and visceral world of cinematic sound design. Divided into three categories, 'Effects Box' sounds were recorded from a variety of analog and digital hardware synthesizers processed through boutique pedals and custom digital FX, while 'EMF' sounds explore EMF recordings, transformed and multi-sampled using a variety of techniques and effect chains to create usable sonic instruments, and 'Analog', as a morphable raw source, giving users a deep pool of sonic possibility and textural exploration.

Each of Noctua's 3 sound layers has been fitted with a complex, microtonal sequencer with built-in randomization and probability. From subtle modulation and detuning to complex voicing and progressions, each layer can be customized with deep sequence control to create lush movement and sonic narrative, all with clear and easy-to-use controls.

Noctua's sound sources are treatable with fully adjustable delay and reverb sends along with powerful master buss processing including overdrive, compressor, eq, and maximizer let you dial-in the perfect sound, all from within the instrument - delivering a complete toolbox for evolving, cinematic sound design.

Noctua features a custom designed selection of one-knob fx chains. Here you can quickly browse different treatments and utilize them for sonic reinforcement, or to create performance-based transformations to the overall energy and grit of your sound. Each chain was designed by Venus Theory, providing a wide range of unique characters to explore.

100 hand-crafted presets are included, professionally designed both by Venus Theory and the UVI sound design team, delivering stylish and rarified sonic tapestries, from brooding and nuanced to terrifying. Presets are fully editable, allowing you to easily adapt the ideas to suit your needs, or create your own designs from scratch."

Digitakt Machines // OS 1.50 Upgrade

video upload by Elektron

"Machines. The Digitakt way.

As found in Octatrack, Model:Cycles or Syntakt, the concept of Machines has now also reached Digitakt.

There are now several new ways to play back your sweet samples. This new OS 1.50 Upgrade brings four different Machines, all with their own different flavor. Repitch for automatic classic beat-matching, Werp for a little quirky old-school way of time warping, and Slice - to chop up your audio and placing the pieces back in any order you like. And finally Oneshot, your default Machine for playing your sample forward, backward or looped. Again, again, and again.

To top things up we also added a new way to record your samples. You can now set a fixed number of steps for your recording. And, Sample Rate Reduction that can be inserted before or after the filter. Just as gritty as you like it to be.

Go find out more and download this new tasty OS 1.50 Upgrade here: https://bit.ly/3IFttuq"

Digitakt OS 1.50 Upgrade Overview

"As found in Octatrack, Model:Cycles or Syntakt, the concept of Machines has now also reached Digitakt. In this tutorial, we explore the four Machines - Oneshot, Werp, Repitch, and Slice - that come with the OS 1.50 Upgrade.

We also cover some creative tools that allow you to push Digitakt’s sequencer and samples further. For example, using Trigless Trigs to parameter lock values without re-triggering samples, using random locks in Slice to get new rhythmic ideas, or using Werp to really pull apart samples and turn them into completely new elements."

Rolling Beats with a Sloppy Clock - Stolperbeats and Ableton Live

video upload by Making Sound Machines

"Excited to be part of Modular Day Barcelona tomorrow - a super nice one day modular meet with DIY workshops, lots of great synth makers and concerts. It is hosted by the awesome people of Befaco at their creative makerspace, Hangar, in the middle of Barcelona.

We will be showing our Stolperbeats drum trigger sequencer and as per your request have been recording a little sketch integrating it with Ableton Live, a small modular skiff and some pedals.

#Stolperbeats is seen here sequencing an #Ableton drum rack via MIDI, running the fantastic Extended Sounds Pack by #Modeselektor and Felix Zoepf - they recorded a ton of studio gear from Roland to Jomox machines, and then made some inspired FX patches within Live that are absolutely worth exploring.

Stolperbeats' trigger outs drive our own secret modular drum prototype, with delay from one of our favourite guitar pedals, the Electro-Harmonix Stereo Memory Man with Hazarai. The module in turn receives MIDI from the lovely, super portable OMX27 keyboard by Denki Oto (with backlit linear Cherry keys).

Stolperbeats, roughly translating to "beats tripping over themselves", is our drum trigger sequencer designed to create shuffled beats influenced by the gritty push-and-pull grooves from the golden age of Hiphop. We've always been fascinated by taking our #beats #offgrid to give them more fluidity and life. This module allows you to easily dial in and seamlessly switch between all the shuffle, feeling and groove we would, in the past, painstakingly nudge together in a #DAW.

We have had a couple of days to soak in the city's wonderful art and culture, hanging out at the Museum of Contemporary Art MACBA and the wonderful Miro foundation (Fundacio Miro) to get inspired for our next modular endeavours, and jump back into soldering modules when we're back home!"

Korg VC-10 Vocoder SN 160065 w/ StarDust Dust Cover

Note: Auction links are affiliate links for which the site may be compensated.

via this auction

"Here's a killer Korg VC-10 Vocoder in excellent working condition. A few items to note:

I had this unit modded by Outlier Audio here in Chicago so that the output balance knob is a push-pull. When it is pulled out, the microphone is bypassed and you can use the VC-10 as a straight synth.

It comes with a custom leather dust cover made by Stardust in Portugal.

The microphone is not the original Korg mic, but it works perfectly."

Making Sound Machines Coming to Dutch Modular Fest

Dreamy Shuffle, Lush Pads: Stolperbeats and Digitone
video upload by Making Sound Machines

"We're off to Berlin - excited to be hosting a workshop at Schneidersladen, tonight at 7:30 pm.

We will be playing a short modular live set, spill the beans on our setup and share our deepest and darkest secrets about deliciously bad timing in #Eurorack. You're invited to swing by, and we look forward to hanging out and chatting afterwards. You will have to sign up via mail - info@schneidersladen.de

We recorded this dreamy little sketch during the search for our live set - a very simple setup using the Elektron Digitone as a sound module for its lush synth pads and slick drum tones, sequenced and shuffled by our #Stolperbeats drum trigger sequencer via MIDI notes. The module in turn receives MIDI from the super portable OMX27 keyboard by Denki Oto (with backlit linear Cherry keys - love it!)

Stolperbeats, roughly translating to 'beats tripping over themselves', is our drum trigger sequencer designed to create shuffled beats influenced by the gritty push-and-pull grooves from the golden age of Hiphop. We've always been fascinated by taking our beats offgrid to give them more fluidity and life. This module allows you to easily dial in and seamlessly switch between all the shuffle, feeling and groove we would, in the past, painstakingly nudge together in a DAW.

Stolperbeats is used here in its 'MIDI Rec' mode, originally envisioned as a quick way to map pitch, channel and velocity from drum machines onto the modules instrument channels by matching the selected instrument to the incoming MIDI data. Turns out this is really fun to use as a transpose with an external keyboard to provide shuffled melodies to the Elektron #Digitone.

If you are in the Netherlands, come see us at Dutch Modular Fest 2022 in Utrecht on Saturday Sept 3rd - we'll have a booth there next to the lovely This is Not Rocket Science (TiNRS) and Vaski, who will both show amazing new stuff."

Moog 912 Envelope Follower - Modified....

video upload by noddyspuncture

"After finally getting my R.A.Moog 912 Envelope Follower working and calibrated recently, it was pointed out to me that it only 'swept' downwards. Good point... in it's standard form the CV it outputs, according to the level on it's input, always peaks high and then drops low. So I thought it would be an interesting project to modify it and have it be able to sweep both down and up. After building an op-amp circuit and testing it I replaced the 'threshold' pot with one of those push/pull guitar pots which has a built in switch - when pulled out it switches to the new 'sweep up' mode. I also installed an 'off-set' pot so I can alter the sweep 'window' for the new mode, which seems quite useful too...! Triggering from a drum machine for this demo and the CV out is patched to both pitch & filter."

Looks like they fixed the joystick since this listing.

"Freshly serviced and discretely modified by an EMS specialist, in full working order with warranty.

Stunning example serviced and ready to ship.

EMS The Putney VCS3a Mk1 and The Cricklewood DK1 keyboard (modified to DK2 spec) for sale in excellent condition.

Broker sale on behalf of the owner: it has been extensively overhauled and discretely (and reversibly) modified by our favourite EMS specialist and is ready for action.

This is a rare chance to secure an original VCS3a in excellent condition. This is one of the most iconic and revered synths of all and is truly versatile: from Radiophonic Workshop (and Hawkwind) type bloops and bleeps, through Eno and Roxy Music and beyond. Paired with the DK-2, this is also a superbly expressive keyboard synthesizer. Tony uses his VCS-3 as much as an effects processor as synthesizer.

This has been freshly serviced and is in full working order with warranty. The face plate of the VCS3 was quite worn so it has had a factory refinish performed by EMS Cornwall and looks superb.

The DK-1 keyboard has been upgraded to factory DK-2 duophonic spec.

Error Instruments Mechanical Resonator

video upload by errorinstruments paul tas

"Mechanical Resonator is a Experimental drum percussion with a built in effect processor.

A digital effect processor that works on an acoustic spring with a built-in pick up.

A resonating sound source that you can play with your hands physical. An experiment with a lot of touch control. You can use a triggering to find some beautiful spots between bass drum. plukt sounds. Electrostatic .

Karp plus strong . Bit crush. Or you can create some baselines with a gate or a sequencer an envelope .

You can also use it as an effect processor. Would like a delay or a bit crush. It’s all about finding physical and mechanical spots of the Resonating sounds . and it’s really small it’s not a traditional effect

you can also use it as a kind of Plonky drum .

Karplus–Strong . But it’s also more than effect kind of delay with the ring modulation pitch shifting.

Bit crush. It works in three different modes. And remember you need to always get the sound by moving the potential meter .

Remember if you push the switch. This model remembers your settings of the potential meter. Three different blinking of the LEDs. It’s remembers the setting when you go to the next one. The first blink is feedback amountz

Two times blink it’s the size The length of that effect. Three times blink it’s the timer .

Make sure you turn the potential meter from back-and-forth to get the effects or you will hear the difference. You can use this as an sound effect. Or pimp your drums. You can even just pull the trigger in there and play with the knobs to find some spots. There is control voltage on the potential meter cv in at the top it works like an offset vactrol style."

Sequential Artist Spotlight: Corbu

video upload by Sequential

"Corbu is the music and visual art made by a grown-up choirboy-turned-psychonaut, and a hairstylist/lyricist who had barely touched an instrument until she was playing on a Jumbotron at Austin City Limits. Jonathan Graves and Amanda create dirty, electronic dreampop as a kind of medicine, trying to lure their audience deeper into their own subconscious while giving them something to sing along to. Jonathan has written a number of Corbu songs in his dreams, and Amanda contributes real-world, "non-musical" samples and textures that push and pull against the pop song format, as they occasionally dive off a cliff together into a pool of abstraction and ambient noise. Corbu has toured with Bloc Party, performed with Goldfrapp, played at Austin City Limits and Electric Forest festivals, and finished their debut album Crayon Soul with Dave Fridmann (Tame Impala, MGMT, The Flaming Lips). Their Lost & Found EP, featuring a collaboration with Jimi Goodwin of the band Doves, is out now.

This video spotlight features Jonathan Graves of Corbu and the Mopho x4.
