Rheyne - "Overhead Jam" - 10/10/12 (Live Jam #56)

Published on Oct 10, 2012 by RheyneMusic

"Download or stream the audio at SoundCloud: http://snd.sc/WTHNS8

Live looping with a DSI MoPho keyboard, an Akai MPD26 controlling NI's Kontakt, three iPads running Sunrizer, Lemur, and Magellan, an iTouch running SoundPrism Pro which is sending MIDI notes to Sunrizer via the iConnectMIDI, and a DJ TechTools MIDI Fighter 3D using the "MF3D Launcher" script created by Tomash Ghzegovsky.

All audio is passed through a PreSonus 1818VSL connected to a Macbook Pro running Ableton Live. All loops are recorded live. Feel free to ask questions below, or through Facebook and Twitter (links at the top).

For the next overhead jam I'd like to find a better tripod / boom arm to suspend the camera directly over the table, to avoid the steep angle seen in this video."

Two New Modules from Intelijel - uVCF & PLANAR

via Intelijel

"The uVCF is a very clean and precise SVF filter that can also be used as a Sine VCO.

This is another great David Dixon filter design that has been on the workbench for a while. It is a very clean and precise filter that also doubles as an excellent sine VCO.

It responds very well to FM and the small size should make it a nice choice for smaller systems/lunchboxes.

-6hp
-skiff friendly
-low pass (LPF) 2-pole , high pass (HPF) 2-pole and bandpass outputs (BPF) 1-pole.
-FM1 input acts as 1V/Oct when full CW
-FM2 input has a bipolar attenuator
-At full Q you get very low distortion sinewaves with a range of 2Hz to 20Khz
-Skiff friendly
-MSRP $160

In production and will ship within two weeks."

"The PLANAR is a 14hp vector mixer / quad panner with a bunch of useful features.Very fun to play with! Both shipping within two weeks.

This module has been in development for almost a year.
Thanks to David for his ingenious way of implementing the vector mixing (among other things in the design) and Haven for coming up with the name and some great feature ideas.

This has to be one of the most fun modules we have ever played with! With just a few audio and CV sources and some interdependencies (i.e use the Joystick CV to simultaneously modify the signals being processed by the VCAs) you quickly get highly complex sounds that you can easily control and play with.

Features:
-Vector mixing: put up to four sources into inputs A, B, C and D and then use the joystick to create the vector mix. Positioning the joystick in any corner will isolate that particular source. Putting the joystick in the center will create an even blend of all four sources. Resulting mix is taken from the MIX output.

-Quad Panning: Plug one source into input A and steer it to outputs A, B, C, D. You can also do stereo panning by just using a pair of outputs.

-SENSE gate output. This is a slew detector which means the gate is only active when you are moving the joystick. Excellent for driving envelopes/VCAs to coordinate so that the output mix is only heard/used when the joystick is being moved.

-Manual gate output: pushbutton to manually trigger a second gate output

-CV outputs: The joystick produces either unipolar (0-5V) or bipolar (-5 to +5V) switchable outputs.

-CV Inputs: The module accepts X and Y axis inputs. By using out of phase LFO sources (such as outputs from the Dr. Octature) you can create really interesting swirling/circular patterns.

This input is also very useful when coordinated with a CV recorder. You can record the modulation from the X, Y outputs and then turn the joystick off (see switch at top left) and playback the modulation into the X and Y input.
This will allow you to recreate a complex quad panning or vector mixing jam.

REVERSIBLE! The module will ship with a second faceplate that is designed to mounted upside down (so joystick is at the bottom) and there are jumpers on the back of the module so you can coordinate the reversed orientation of the joystick. This is to facilitate use in a skiff.
*I will post photos of the reverse faceplates when they arrive next week.

Short video demo just showing the light show.

Audio demo will be posted later tonight.

These are almost complete in production. Ready to ship by next week!
The joysticks used are very expensive and have a long lead time (plus large minimum order). As a result this batch is going to be kind of limited.

MSRP $340. 14hp skiff friendly"

September Acid Pattern

What's particularly interesting about this one aside from the unusual pattern, is the original track was entirely sequenced by a midified TB-303.

via Dylan Davis: "The september acid pattern compilation EP is now out

Its a free /pay what you like collection of all the september acid pattern and all the renditions.

the original pattern from null object "This track was entirely sequenced by my Midified TB303, it is triggering all the drum samples, two mp3's sliced into midi tracks ("Madness - Baggy Trousers" & "Hume - The Spirit of Gambo The Lord Dewys of Favoret"), A Roland System 104 Step sequencer and the 303 the the step sequencer control parts of a Roland System 102 synth.

The 102 synth also feeds back into the modified 303 hence the LFO sound at times.

The whole track is then haphazardly transposed all over the place, triggering different samples. The 303 has a bunch of circuit bends which further affect the sound.

This way of working is quite different to the typical XOX box acid setup but this pattern can sound good with a 6,8,10,12 or 16 step backbone. The track will loop around and sound "right" after two 16 step bars" Work it to make something for you. I am interested to hear what you do."

the rest of the tracks by various group members around the world over 130 minutes of acid at the last count

enjoy"
