"Two Cosmos Quencers controlled by a joystick (Doepfer A-174-4).

Cosmos Quencer has external cv / gate / mod inputs.
So you can modulate the internal sequence by the external cv/gate signal.

Eric Schlappi and Bastien Lavaud - Orbital Mirrors

video upload by SCHLAPPI ENGINEERING

"Part of an improvisational audiovisual jam session between Eric Schlappi and Bastien Lavaud on August 26th in Grenoble, France, lightly edited afterwards.

Audio is Eric Schlappi using a prototype of the Nibbler as a crude sequencer and another Nibbler at audio rate dividing down the lead synths frequency to create the bassline. The lead is a Three Body and the Kick is formed with the Angle Grinder and Boundary modules. There are also some overdubbed blasts of noise using a Nibbler at audio rate with the shift register functionality.

Video is Bastien Lavaud using a mix of @syntonie1487 (including the upcoming Solaire and Seuils modules) and @lzxindustries video modules as well as some video feedback through a camera.

Please watch in the highest available quality as compression is quite harsh on the video synthesis methods used.

Dive into the World of EMS VCS3: Unraveling the Power of Modulation & Filters

video upload by Andy Whitmore

"Revolutionize Your Sound: Exploring EMS VCS3's Modulation & Filter Capabilities

Demo of a wide range of sounds & special FX of the VCS3 - & how to program them - explained by Andy Whitmore at Greystoke Studio.

The audio is DIRECT, 100% DRY, & IN STEREO - You are hearing the raw audio as it comes directly from the synthesizer. NO post processing (Effects, EQ, or Dynamics) whatsoever.

The VCS 3 (or VCS3; an initialism for Voltage Controlled Studio, version) is a portable analog synthesiser with a flexible semi-modular voice architecture, by Electronic Music Studios (London) Limited (EMS) in 1969.
This product was called various names by EMS. For example, the printed logo written to the front left of products are: 'V.C.S. 3' or 'The Putney (VCS 3)' on the earlier version, then 'The Synthi (VCS 3) II' on the later version (Synthi VCS 3 II).

The VCS 3's basic design was reused by EMS in many other of their own products, most notably in the EMS Synthi 100 (1971), and the Synthi A (1971) and AKS (1972) (essentially a VCS 3 housed in a plastic briefcase). The AKS also has a sequencer built into the keyboard in the lid.

VCS3 - as used by
BBC Radiophonic Workshop
Brian Eno
Chemical Brothers
Hawkwind
David Bowie
Flood
Ice-T
Jean-Michel Jarre
John Paul Jones - Led Zeppelin
King Crimson
Kraftwerk
Pete Townshend - The Who

Mass Layoffs at Moog Music?

via Jerry Farell on Facebook

"Moog about to change for ever, a sad day for their team and all of us!

I walked down to the moog factory today to talk to them about selling to InMusic, and most of their team was in the parking lot upset. They had just been laid off. A suprize to everyone today but they did know something was coming. The moog store is open, they said maybe thru next week, and it was ok for me to take some pictures. They said moog was about to close down so selling was the only way to keep it going. The Asheville location will remain open for now only making a limited number of higher end products but the majority will be made over seas and of lower quality. That is what they think is happening anyway. Very sad day for that crew.

Until now all moog was hand made in Asheville NC and of the highest quality.

If you don't know about moog and what they do, read their history, it's pretty awesome. @moog @madeinasheville

Update:

And a statement from Moog:

"We want to thank everyone who has reached out over the last several days to check in on us. We also want to share some important information from the Moog factory.

Last Friday, we parted ways with a number of our skilled production team members. For those of us still with Moog, these employees represent friends, siblings, spouses. This hasn’t been easy for anyone. Please know that these folks were provided continued compensation and benefits as they plan their next career steps.

It has always been our mission to manufacture Moog instruments in our local community.

Moog Music headquarters will remain in Asheville, NC. We will continue to design, engineer, service, and manufacture instruments here. We will also manufacture a selection of our instruments with trusted partners who are dedicated to maintaining the quality and sound of Moog products. Some of these partners have already been helping us for years to create instruments you know and love.

These changes are necessary for the future of Moog as we continue to face the ongoing challenges of manufacturing electronic instruments in America.

We have a talented group of employees in Asheville who are committed to bringing you the best-sounding electronic instruments in the world. We’re here because we love these instruments, and we will continue to stay focused on developing inspiring musical tools for our creative community.

We’re grateful for the passion and care you have shown us. We ask that you please continue to show consideration to our employees and keep an open mind as we put the finishing touches on some of our most innovative instruments yet."

How Anthony Marinelli Programmed the Lead Synth on Michael Jackson’s PYT

video upload by Anthony Marinelli Music

"In this video I'll show you a simple technique that I use to breakdown a sound when I need to re-create it. The most important weapon you have for programming a sound is your listening skills. I always take a deep breath before getting started. Quieting my mind in this way usually helps me understand what I'm hearing better. This example is a very simple one oscillator patch so it's a great one for try out this technique. The flutey lead from Michael Jackson's P.Y.T. is a cool counter line that enters for the 1st time in the 2nd verse of the song. It really gives the second verse a lift, almost floating feeling over a very funky groove. The waveform is a triangle wave which has a minimal amount of harmonic content. That's one main reason why it can be up in the mix and not interfere with the lead vocal. I used a Minimoog to create the sound for the track, but you can make this sound accurately on almost any synth including plugins. A lot of the personality of the sound comes from the performance including the use of vibrato via the pitch wheel. Experiment with playing the vibrato in a similar way as Greg Phillinganes (the original performer). This will help you understand the level of nuance that is possible. He's the master of it. And always remember the most important thing about any sound is when it occurs in the song and what notes are being played. Who is playing it doesn't hurt either, so be sure to interject your own thing into everything you do!
