"Overview.
The SE-1 is an analog, monophonic synth-module designed to recreate that classic Moog sound. It creates thunderous bass, stunning leads, special FX, and everything in-between, making it perfect for Hip Hop, R&B, Pop, Electronic, DnB and Dance, as well as Jazz, Jazz Fusion, Modern Classical, and Film Scores. It also blends well with acoustic instruments, making it all the more versatile.

The classic Moog sound comes from its distinctive 24-dB low-pass, voltage-controlled analog filter. There's also a 12-dB low-/band-pass filter, which emulates the classic sounds of Oberheim synths. The SE-1 uses three, discrete voltage-controlled analog oscillators for genuine analog synth sounds. That's three VCOs -- just like the MiniMoog. They offer the basic waveforms you'd expect: triangle, sawtooth, reverse sawtooth, square, noise, and random. There are also four, multi-stage ADSR envelope generators to shape your sound, the filter, and more. Also available are ring modulation and glide/auto-glide effects.

With 24 knobs, 21 tactile switches, MIDI control over parameters, and plenty of program storage memory (396 presets and 396 user patches), the SE-1 is a professional alternative to its classic forefathers (and stays in tune better). It's used extensively by industry professionals -- including Fatboy Slim, Frontline Assembly, Eminem, Dr. Dre, David Foster, Hans Zimmer, and Stevie Wonder, to name only a very few.

This is a fabulous toy, it's very easy to program and has a quite good sound quality with decent analog feel in a compact package. The keybed feels somewhat strange and flimsy but it's playable once you get used to it."

I thought a Jupiter 6 was just an 6 voice version, but it is a completely different synthesizer. So after a while I sold it and started looking further for a Jupiter 8 that I eventually found as well. But it took a while before I found one. After a while I already regretted selling the Jupiter 6 since it does have a very nice sound of its own. It is less powerful and warm than his bigger brother, but it is very good in more subtle and clearer sounds." Unfortunately the USB controller I'm using in this video has a terrible keyboard action, practically impossible to play piano sounds with the correct expression (black keys are more sensitive than white keys!), but this is just an example of a very basic configuration, all in less than 5 Kilograms!

The sample-playback section of Key Performer can play up to 56 voices in the V-Machine. If you don't need high polyphony (for example, if you don't need to play piano parts with the sustain pedal), you can even load more than one instance of the plugin and have it multi-timbral on different MIDI channels, e.g. with 2 keyboards.

Synth Fumbles... "Synthian Slips"

I did it again. I called and labeled the Yamaha CS01 a Casio. It's one of my most common synth fumbles. As much as I know it's a Yamaha, if I don't make the conscious association, I default to Casio. Obviously due to the look and size of the CS01. Another is the use of dashes for KORG and Yamaha in their model numbers. Yamaha does not use dashes, KORG does. It's CS01, not CS-01 and its MS-20, not MS20 for example. I know there are others, and you have caught me a number of times. I've been known to call the Micron and ION and vice versa for example. It's just the way it is... If you have any, feel free to share.

"So I've been busy working on this little home made synth, it's gotten to a point where it's doing enough to show you all. Here is the low down.

1. 16 step sequencer
3. LCD info screen
2. Saw and Square wave

6. Switchable high pass and low pass filter.

Best part is I have a circuit board on it's way and it all fits on a board about 1.5 inch by 3.5 inch so very small!

Plan on adding a few more things.
1. Line out (Pretty much just a headphone out right now)
2. Saw works but a bit funky gotta fix the code.
3. Presets (I hope)
4. Indicator for what step you are on.
5. Adjustable filter
6. I have a version where you can set the gate individually for each note, but I just prefer the over all gate, might try to make it switchable but the code at the moment is glitchy.
