ANALOG SYNTH MINI MODULAR NOISE LAB

via this auction
by bluelantern
videos at the auction and previously posted here.
"(2) BLACK JACK VCO's: RAMP, SAW, SQUARE, TRIANGLE, & SINE WAVES. THESE VCO'S HAVE CV, LINEAR CV, AND PWM INPUTS. THERE IS ALSO A LINKED PITCH CV INPUT NEAR THE JACK LABLED 'PCV' FOR SEQUENCER OR MIDI TO CV CONVERSION INPUT. THESE ARE 1V/OCT BASED AND I TUNED THEM FOR A MIDI TO CV CONVERTER USE. THESE ARE MY PERSONAL VCO'S THAT I USE FOR EVERYTHING. VERY MUSICAL.

(1)ANALOG LFO: RAMP, SAW, SQUARE, TRIANGLE, & SINE WAVES. THIS LFO HAS A CV AND VARIABLE LINEAR INPUT. THIS 'VLINEAR' INPUT IS VERY UNIQUE TO THIS SYNTH. I HAVE NEVER SEEN THIS FEATURE ON ANY OTHER PRODUCT OUT THERE. WITH THIS IN PUT YOU CAN DO ARCADE TYPE ARPEGGIOS.

(1)TOM WHILTSHIRE ADSR DIGITAL ENVELOPE GENERATOR FROM ELECTRIC DRUID SITE. THERE IS NO PCB AVAILABLE. I DID A SMALL RUN FOR MY SELF.

(1)ANALOG VCA: AUDIO INPUT, AND VCA CV INPUT

(1)DC MIXER: -WHEN THE KNOB IS PAST THE HALF POINT YOU WILL OVER DRIVE THE SOUND (CAN BE A NICE EFFECT FOR TUBE LIKE STUFF). SO THE FIRST SMALL TURN IS WHERE THE SOUND ADJUSTING IS.

(1)NOISE GENERATOR: WITH GRAIN, WHITE, PINK NOISE
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
THE MIXER IS HARD WIRED TO THE VCA AUDIO INPUT VIA SWITCH JACK, SO WHEN YOU INPUT A CABLE INTO THE VCA IN IT WILL BREAK THAT CONNECTION FROM THE MIXER.

THERE ARE (2) 1/4" PHONO MONO OUTPUTS. (1) IS FOR LINE LEVEL MIXER OUT, AND THE OTHER IS FROM THE VCA/MASTER VOLUME OUT.
THE RED BUTTON IS TO OPEN UP THE VCA. THE GREEN BUTTON ON THE TOP IS TO TRIGGER THE ADSR GENERATOR ENVELOPE.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
THIS GUIDE IS FOR ROOKIES:
VCO-> OUTS HAVE SOUND, THE INPUTS ARE TO MODULATE OR TWEAK THE PITCH. THE OUTS CAN VOLTAGE CONTROL SOMETHING ELSE TOO.

LFO->OUTS CAN HAVE SOUND AT HIGH SPEEDS. THE INPUTS ARE TO CONTROL THE SPEED. THE OUTS CAN VOLTAGE CONTROL SOMETHINE ELSE TOO.

ENV ADSR-> OUTS LABLED 'ENV' ARE CONTROLLER VOLTAGES, THESE NEVER HAVE SOUND. THESE ARE TO CONTROL SOMETHING ONLY.

VCA->THIS IS A VC AMP. THE MIXER GOES TO THIS THEN YOU CAN CONTROL IT BY PLUGGING IN SOMETHING INTO THE VCA CV INPUT. USUALLY AN ENV OUT PLUGS INTO THIS.

NOISE GENERATOR->THESE OUTS HAVE SOUND, YOU CAN ALSO USE THEM TO CONROL SOMETHING.

THE MIXER->THIS IS TO MIX AUDIO."

MPC 1000 & Kaoss Pad 3 Live

YouTube via psychopath3000 — May 27, 2010 — "Ok, so I lied a little. It's not entirely live. Here we have three loops on the Kaoss Pad 3, A/ a drum loop from the Lion King soundtrack, B/ a cut-up African choir loop from the same, and C/ a cut-up piano loop from the Up soundtrack (both AMAZING films, watch them right now. Go. Go now).

On the MPC 1000, I have sampled things including a Martinu piece, various vocals from across the universe of youtube and Rafiki from the Lion King. Much of it is live, much is not. So forgive me.

I hope you like this. It took me quite a while to figure out. Inspired by the likes of Pogo, Prefuse 73 and, obviously, the Lion King.

My FFT test in Processing

YouTube via zambari — May 27, 2010 — "I've started to learn processing, an obvious first step is drawing some spectrogram-like stuff. Biggest issue here was finding a right balance between time-resolution/latency - for which you need to keep the buffer size small, and frequency resolution, especially in the low-end where you need big buffers. I ended up averaging results from one 512 sample and one 8192 sample buffers.
Then there was some fun working out a method to display it logarithmically and some optimisation tricks. Audio is played live on Kork Electribe run through sherman filterbank (distortion at the end) http://processing.org

framerate is a bit better when not capturing video at the same time"

Vintage Dynacord Yahoo Group

via Dennis on the AH list:

"Just wanted to let you know i've started an Yahoo mailing list concerning vintage Dynacord equipment like the DRS78, SRS56, VRS23, DDL12 etc.
The purpose of this list is to collect all schematics that are out there for these machines and also uploading some pics of the guts of these machines.
Off course you can also drop your problem if your beloved Dyna isn't working anymore.

Roland Jupiter-4 Analog Synthesizer pt.2

YouTube via retrosound72 — May 27, 2010 — "vintage synth demo by RetroSound

Roland Jupiter-4 pt.2
4-Voice Analog Synthesizer from the year 1978.

The JP-4 sound is very warm and organic. The 4 VCO`s are always a bit out of tune but this is the typical JP-4 sound. Not compared to the bigger JP-6 or JP-8. For me the best sounded Jupiter.

dsi mopho demo #5 & elektron machinedrum

YouTube via jakomaron — May 26, 2010 — "Mopho multi preset technic. (Shaolin technic)

The Elektron Machinedrum drives the Mopho (I use a mid machine with different pgm change on each note) and it play the drums too (TR606 samples). There's no computer in the party.

The big muff is on the mopho and the machinedrum.

I swap from classic to extended mode on the machinedrum :

- in extended mode it play the midi notes and the pgm change for the mophos.

- in classic mode the parameters setting is lost, no more midi pgm change is transmited to the mopho.

I even mess with the mophos preset during the play.
I use some echoes of the boss RE-20 (space echo).
And I use some reverb echoes of the yamaha 01v.

Peace love unity and have it fun.

Unatronics - The Seeq-it and Oscillotron

Seeq-it from Michael Una on Vimeo.

"Seeq-it is a square wave synthesizer with a built-in stepped sequencer. There are 8 steps to the sequence, and each step can be set to a different pitch or turned off. LEDs on the front panel indicate the position and speed of the sequence as it moves in a circle. A 2nd low-frequency oscillator can be used to modulate the output pitch, resulting in additional tones and rhythms. A built-in resonant lowpass filter allows for fat frequency sweeps and tone control.

Seeq-it's sound is reminiscent of both 8-bit video games and classic techno sequencers. The pitch output ranges from very high to very low, earth-shaking bass frequencies.

There is a Control Voltage input/output on the back for an external clock, to aid you in synchronizing Seeq-it to other drum machines and sequencers. An Audio modulation input allows you to plug in a Beep-it or other hot-signal source for interesting frequency-modulation effects. One 1/4" output allows Seeq-it to connect to external amplifiers, effects, and recording devices.

More info at unatronics.com"

The Oscillotron from Michael Una on Vimeo.

"The Oscillotron is a touch-sensitive device that emits several different sounds, crafted in a Steampunk-type style. Housed in a nice-smelling finished wood cigar box, the Oscillotron features brass hardware and a large color-changing lens. It emits a granulated siren tone that can be adjusted from very low bass to very high frequencies. A "random" mode can be activated that scrambles the sample playback, resulting in a retro "computing" type sound. Both modes can be manipulated by touching the brass knobs with your hands or a conductive object, resulting in touch-responsive wild pitch bends.

Each Oscillotron is unique and housed in a slightly different case, but the capabilities and sounds remain the same. A 1/4" output jack allows connection to external amplifiers, effects, and recording devices.

Electric Independence: Growing

"On the new episode of Electric Independence, we head into Growing's practice space to look at their equipment and get the story behind their transformation from effects-heavy drone into the complex, synapse-shifting sound they create today. Oh yeah, they also added a third member (and vocals, kind of) and just released a new album entitled 'PUMPS!' They don't front on their musical prowess. "We couldn't play anything else. This is what we play." How they play "this" is what this episode is all about.

There's also a joint Growing and Korg contest to win a Kaossilator. Enter here to win:
