Vintage 1977 Analog non-SRM CAT Synthesizer

via this auction

"Rare, Vintage 1977 first generation, non-SRM, “Cat” Synthesizer, from Octave electronics... They did not make a lot of these but Octave released this analog classic - the Cat - during the era of the Minimoog and ARP Odyssey synthesizers. The Cat is actually very much like the ARP Odyssey, so much so that ARP had sued them in the late 1970's for cloning their designs. The Cat is a monophonic/duophonic analog synthesizer with 2 oscillators capable of square and sawtooth waveforms. VCO 1 also has a triangle waveform. Each of the waveforms can be played simultaneously and mixed together and there are additional sub-octave oscillators on each oscillator to blend new and interesting sounds.

Features of the Cat
2 transient generators = envelopes (gated, off and auto settings)
ADSR
AR
sample and hold (s&h) - noise or vco 1 source
pitch bend
octave shift
glide
LFO frequency
key control
poly - for 2 note capability
off
mono - both oscillators stacked on the same key
VCO 1 (voltage controlled oscillator)
fine tune
coarse tune
modulation 1 - sine LFO, square LFO, s&h
modulation 2 - ADSR, AR, VCO2
pulse width modulation - sine LFO, DC
sub octave waveform volume
sawtooth waveform volume
triangle waveform volume
square waveform volume
VCO 2
fine tune
modulation 1 - sine LFO, square LFO, s&h
modulation 2 - ADSR, AR, VCO1
oscillator sync on / off
sub octave waveform volume
sawtooth waveform volume
square waveform volume
VCO 1 audio on / off
VCF (lowpass resonant voltage controlled filter)
cutoff frequency
resonance (q)
modulation 1 - sine LFO, square LFO, S&H
modulation 2 - ADSR, AR, VCO 1
Keyboard control knob (off - 1 volt)
VCA control - ADSR, AR, bypass (for drones!)
Noise generator level
Power on / off switch with light
hi and lo audio outs
external audio in
glide switch in
vcf cv in
vco 1 cv in
series patch to slave

VINTAGE SYNDRUM TWIN 278 SYNTH DRUM EFFECT PEDAL

via this auction

"Syndrum Twin Model 278 serial number 1112 in beautiful cosmetic, (except for missing slider knobs) and perfect working condition. We guess late seventies early eighties production date to compete with Simmons and other triggered electronic drum brains popular at that time. Original mounting bracket and AC cable intact."

Moog Source Analogue Synthesizer

via this auction

"Only 7000 ever made.

Serial Number - 1189 X

The Moog Source is a
monophonic Z80 microprocessor-controlled analog synthesizer manufactured by Moog Music from 1981 to 1985. The Source was Moog's first synthesizer to offer patch memory storage. The design was also the first (and only) Moog synthesizer to feature a flat-panel membrane keyboard to replace the standard buttons, knobs and sliders, along with multitude panel graphics that were very different from anything Moog offered at the time.

In addition to the memory capable of holding 16 presets, the Source features a 37-note
keyboard, and two VCOs that can be selected among three waveforms and three octaves. Programmed presets can be saved to an audio cassette interface to free up the onboard memory for additional new patches. The 24dB/octave VCF has parameters for keyboard tracking, cutoff frequency, resonance, and envelope amount. There are two ADSR envelope generators that can be set in single or multi trigger modes, one for the VCF and one for the VCA. For modulation, the Source features LFO and sample and hold. The unit also features a rudimentary sequencer.

Used on many 80's pop hits (as used for the bass line on New Orders 'blue monday')

As close to an original 3 oscillator mini moog as you can get. Beautiful sounding filter and plenty of warm punch from the synths to DCO's."

Waldorf Pulse+ TouchOSC Template

In case you missed it, I added a link to the TouchOSC template for the Waldorf Pulse+ in this post. I also just added some direct from iPad screenshots towards the bottom of the post. If you have an iPad you can install TouchOSC for free here:

TouchOSC - hexler

You can then install the template to check it out. You'll find instructions on how to setup TouchOSC and install templates at hexler.net. You don't need a Pulse to check it out. If you do have a Pulse and MIDI on your iPad, you'll need to grab OSCulator from hexler.net and map the template for your Pulse. It's not to difficult once you get started - mainly a copy, paste and edit routine. The template only works with The Missing Link which is not yet available.

"For auction: one of the "Playpad" versions of the Soundlab Mini-synth by Health Club Music- only two Playpad versions were ever made! The interface should be pretty self-explanatory to those interested in this auction- mostly patched with banana cables plus a few 1/4" ins and main out as well. This synth is in the same physical and working condition it was in when it arrived new. The unit requires 12VAC/500mA and will come with a normal wall wart power supply for 120VAC/60Hz outlets so is ready to use for standard US outlets. More info and audio samples can be found here"

"Got the LCD, potentiometer, and play/stop button working. This thing is an experiment for our techno improv band to help suggest phrasing. The idea is that once you're queued up to come in with something, you'd wait for beat 1 instead of coming in on beat 6 or 13 or whatever."

Modular Synth Tips

Modular Synth Tips is a page with miscellaneous tips ranging from VCO calibration methods to proper packing for shipping. Via Dave on the SDIY list:

"I've shared my tips for soldering and repairs in personal emails with others DIY'ers and decided to document that on the Synth Tips page as well.

There are a few other tips there for VCO tuning and making power cables as well as my own spreadsheet of module power consumption."

It is focused mosty on analog Modular synth but we have also an sections for desktop synth, minisynths , hardware hacking and circuit bending. I invite everybody to participate and propose any section or whatever the miss.

A note on the Synth Babes tag: Obviously the tag is going to mean different things to different people. The label was not meant to be sexist or derogatory by any means. If anyone interprets it that way, my apologies. I only received one complaint recently in over a year, but that one complaint is enough for me. The label will live on unless I can find something better. In my opinion people are free to interpret it however they like as long as they do so with respect to others.

Update via Brian in the comments: "
hey guys! me and a few friends were just hanging out on new years day and recorded some impromptu things...here is one of the ridiculous recordings that came out of it ...not really mixed and definitely dirty! if you like it, there is more to come!". More in the comments. On my iPhone at the moment, so I can't easily link. Actually... I can! Pretty cool:

YouTube via MediaArtTube | January 02, 2011 |

"Seaquence is an online social music experiment that allows users to create step-sequencer micro-compositions. Short musical patterns are represented as biology-inspired life forms which are heard as you navigate through their universe. Different sounds and timbres are visualized as unique character traits in each life-form. Users can navigate through the field of submissions, creating a unique musical and visual experience.
Seaquence is a project developed by Gray Area Foundation for the Arts, San Francisco resident artists Ryan Alexander, Gabriel Dunne and Daniel Massey.
