BugBrand Modules in Minijack Frac Format

via BugBrand
"It has been a good few months since I did any Modular-Mails. Things may have seemed quiet, especially as I'd let slide any updates on the website - in fact I was beavering away with lots of work for the ever expanding System User setups.

**The main news today - the return of Minijack Modules!**

As you may know, when I updated the production methods last year (Rev.2 type modules using parallel boards and surface-mount components) I had to drop the Minijack versions that I had originally been offering. Well, finally I have figured how to design the main Banana modules but also keeping in mind the requirements to then change the designs over to Minijack. I really see the Minijack versions as spin-offs from the main thrust of Banana modules and I'll certainly be keeping Bananas as my main focus. You know how strongly I believe in Bananas!

The thing with the Banana versions is that there is currently no-one else in the same market area and as such I have to focus on making complete systems - this is a pretty intensive affair where I offer a very personal service. That's really why the Banana Systems remain in limited availability (though do look out for some complete 1Frame systems coming soon!). What I hope to offer through the Minijack Modules are extra flavours to fit into regular Frac systems (eg. Blacet).

I won't be offering ALL modules in Minijack format by any means, but as I release new Banana modules I will consider whether that module would work well in Minijack too. For example, I doubt that all the UTL modules would be worth doing in Minijack, but many of the SYN/PRC/CTL modules would be. [At the moment there are some Rev2 modules such as PRC1 & SYN2A which I did last year and without keeping the Minijack requirements in mind - this now means that I need to do some further relaying work before I could offer these in Minijack - I hope to be able to do that, but no promises as yet]

The first Minijack Module available is the new PRC5 Wavefolder - check the description and video here:
PRC5 Wavefolder Minijack

Next week I will have DD3s available and will do another quick mailout to announce these. If anyone is particularly keen to get both PRC5 and DD3 then I'd be perfectly happy to combine shipping and hold off sending any purchased PRC5s until the DD3s are ready next week.

**Other News**

I have finally updated all the Modular pages - partly changing text which I'd written near the launch of the website, but also to update with all the new modules I've been producing in the main Banana format.
http://www.bugbrand.co.uk/modular

As I say, there should be some complete 1Frame systems available soon. Beyond that, I've no concrete plans to take on further System Users, but we'll see how things progress through the year.

Oh yes - there have also been some great recordings done recently by BugModular users for a Radiophonic Workshop night that will be held at the Cube Cinema in Bristol at the start of April. Have a listen to all the wonderful submissions here: http://muffwiggler.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=28584

Thanks Thanks!
& best wishes,
Tom"

"This project is a personal project. As much as I'd like to release these designs for SDIY there are 2 issues, Firstly there are many errors as this is a first time (and only) build, Secondly I don't have Don Buchlas permission to release these versions (flawed or not).

The design is based on the Buchla Music Easel which is pictured in the history section of the Buchla website. The original blueprints can be found here..."

Jasuto YUMI:synth - Bowed String Simulator Now Available

"YUMI:synth is the worlds first realistic sounding bowed string simulator for iOS. All sound generation is completely synthesized, absolutely no samples are used.

You can play two strings at once (at different locations on the scale) and bow manually or automatically. The scale system allows you to quickly define all the playable notes.

Also included are two high quality stereo effect units: ping-pong delay and reverb.

You can easily save/load presets, and backup your presets via iTunes.

Finally, there's an interactive help system that allows you to get info on a control once it's touched."

YUMI:synth - Chris Wolfe

YUMI:synth is from Jasuto, makers of Jasuto Pro. You can find previous posts here and Jasuto on YouTube here. You might remember Yumi, the violin simulator from this recent post.

I gave YUMI:synth a quick try and I have to say it is a great sounding app. The added delay and reverb, along with subtle control settings allow for some truly haunting and expressive sounds.
