Doepfer eurorack modular synthesizer fixed filter A-128
"You have a choice of knobs. I think the smaller ones feel better, but the original knobs are here if you prefer.....
Module A-128 (Fixed Filter Bank) is a filter bank, made up of 15 parallel band pass filters, all with fixed middle frequencies and bandwidth (50 Hz / 75Hz / 110Hz / 150Hz / 220Hz / 350Hz / 500Hz / 750Hz / 1.1kHz / 1.6kHz / 2.2kHz / 3.6kHz / 5.2kHz / 7.5kHz / 11 kHz).
Each band pass filter has its own amplitude control knob, with which that frequency band can be attenuated. The bandwidth of each of the filters is approximately half an octave.
The signal at the output of the A-128 contains a mix of all the filters, depending on the position of each one's amplitude control knob.
This module has a maximum current draw of 20mA. Requires 20 TE/HP worth of space to fit in a Eurorack frame."

Way Out Ware SynthX Now Available
"Beginner or pro, SynthX is great fun and candy for your ears and eyes. You can chose to play using the intuitive XY mode that automatically makes every touch tuned to the selected scale, grid mode where you explore harmonies in a fun new way, and the keys mode that provides a standard piano keyboard.
Built using Way Out Ware's award winning virtual analog technology and heavily optimized for the iOS operating system, SynthX delivers a great looking and sounding analog experience to the iPad.
A mathematically modeled synthesizer, SynthX contains no samples. As a result, it is very small in size, yet it has an extremely large and professionally design sound library.
An effects chain including distortion, flanger, delay and limiter are included. Additionally, a separate identical effects chain is provided to process an external signal connected to the iPad's audio input.
SynthX has been designed from the beginning for the iPad and multi-touch. It has a comprehensive MIDI implementation using CoreMIDI including MIDI Note send and receive and MIDI Beat Clock LFO sync.
You can also record your performances within SynthX and use Sonoma Wireworks AudioCopy to share your performance with other iPad apps. It also supports iTunes file sharing which allows you to drag your performances in full quality into your favorite digital audio workstation.
Warning: SynthX can be habit forming. Please be sure to reserve time for it's use.
P.S. No natural sounds were harmed during the creation of this app."

soome, stutter island & grainstorm - monome arc videos by Stretta
"Improvisation on piano and monome. I'm using a hand-built arc prototype, generously on loan from tehn, who is very busy building and shipping monomes, dealing with the transition to serialosc required by the new edition and finalizing the arc firmware. I'm sure he'd prefer to be playing with the arc himself.

The arc isn't for everyone. Also consider the software available at launch: very little. My advice to those on the fence: wait. Also, don't base an arc purchasing decision on grainstorm.
Speech is a rather poor example, and in retrospect, maybe it wasn't a great choice, but I figured I had the soome video to show the more musical side.

Grainstorm has four independent buffers that can be controlled with the arc. Primarily, you use the arc to scroll through the buffer. A push turn gesture on the same encoder widens the window from which grains are drawn. This isn't really evident in the video. A snapshot of various playback parameters can be stored on the grid monome where the it can be played like an instrument or sequenced with the on board sequencer. You can record live audio into the buffer, or load audio from disk. Meaningful support for the arc4 would be fairly easy.

They don't operate that way. I'm not trying to talk anyone into buying one. Quite the opposite as I think the initial production quantity is small enough benefit from a lower profile release to keep as many possible units out of the hands of people who wish to profit from the scarcity. The arc isn't for everyone. Loopy 2 drum sequencer interface early preview
YouTube Uploaded by michaelrtyson on Mar 2, 2011
"Early preview of Loopy 2's new drum sequencer, built over the last three days.
No percussion type icons yet, but the rest is basically there:
- Full zoom/pan interface for use on an iPhone screen (although this was the simulator, operated with a mouse cursor).
- Two velocity levels available for each cell (127 volume levels supported in the back end, but not in the interface yet)
- 12 instruments
- Custom sound set support, so you can built your own kit from your own sample set and import it into Loopy
This is unlikely to be in Loopy 2.0, but expect it around version 2.1.

Note Loopy was what Oliver Chesler used to record loops in this video.

This is an early preview of Loopy 2 for iPhone (and soon iPad). Six tracks, simple touch controls. Tap a track to start recording, tap it again to stop. Tap in the middle to overdub, or elsewhere to mute the track. Drag one track onto another to merge instantly (not shown in this demo - another time!).
Inbuilt tempo settings (including live audio scaling, if you change the tempo mid-session), full stereo audio, volume and pan settings.
There's plenty more, and I'll demo them all in the weeks to come. Subscribe here, or over at loopyapp.com to stay tuned!"

Waldorf microWAVE Wavetables
via Christopher Arndt on the Waldorf list:
"While we're speaking about the Mircowave [1], I have often searched the net for a comprehensive description of the ROM wavetables in the Microwave (and the newer Waldorf synths).
There are scattered descriptions [2] on the net of the wavetables and the excellent reference of the first 27 wavetables with waveform graphs but, surprisingly, apparently no document which describes all waveforms in one place (or I just couldn't find one).
So I compiled the available information into a table and added some of my own observations. You can download it here:
http://blog.chrisarndt.de/article/519
Please note that while the blog article is in German [Googlish here], the document is in English. Also available there is a small Python-Snippet that has the wavetable data in computer-digestible form for you hackers out there.
Though the document lists the Microwave wavetables only, it should be of interest to Blofeld and Largo Users as well, since their wavetables are basically the same, except that they have three extra wavetables from the Q/microQ and the PPG."

Definition: syn·the·siz·er
An electronic instrument, often played with a keyboard, that combines simple waveforms to produce more complex sounds, such as those of various other instruments
Traditional Sample-based synthesis:
One of the easiest synthesis systems is to record a real instrument as a digitized waveform, and then play back its recordings at different speeds to produce different tones. This is the technique used in "sampling". Most samplers designate a part of the sample for each component of the ADSR envelope, and then repeat that section while changing the volume for that segment of the envelope. This lets the sampler have a persuasively different envelope using the same note."

"I made this too long demo video maybe a year ago(?), but never uploaded it here because it was too long. Now that they've increased the allowed time, I can post it here.
Basically this is a long, boring, methodical demo of the basic sounds of several filters. The original idea was from a recipe for a basic "fat" sound by Mark Pulver, using 3 vco's. I controlled this sound using a simple pattern from a Music From Outer Space 16 step sequencer. Just basic filter operation is demonstrated - no added modulation from envelopes or lfo's - otherwise it would get too confusing and take too long. I'm just sweeping the frequency knobs on the various filters at varying resonance settings."

"This is a lazy song with 11 tracks of Yamaha V2 pure.
Pure means: No external help like Fx, Eq etc.. All sounds comes directly from V2 into the soundcard without any plugins.
Yamaha V2 brings an 4OP FM-Synthesis without samples. You listen only FM. No layers. The panning is realized by the internal panner. Filterölike sounds are simply by FM ... theres no filter inside. I recorded every sound as a stereo file.
Here in Europe is the V2 a rarity from Japan, we only know the DX11 - the same synthesizer just with another naming."

Electronic Musician Jean-Jacques Perrey on "I've Got a Secret"
YouTube via rrgomes | Mar 20, 2010 |
"Electronic music pioneer Jean-Jacques Perrey appears on "I've Got a Secret" (November 21st, 1966) with host Steve Allen and panelists Betsy Palmer, Bill Cullen, Bess Myerson, and Henry Morgan.
After several other musicians are introduced along with their instruments (violin, French horn, bagpipe, clarinet) we learn that Perrey's secret is "I play one instrument that can sound like all of these."
After the game, that instrument is revealed to be the Ondioline, an early synthesizer-like keyboard instrument. He demonstrates that it can indeed mimic the sounds of the others and make unique sounds of its own.
Perrey and his collaborator Gershon Kingsley, with whom he recorded the 1966 album "The In Sound from Way Out", then play one of their compositions."

MeeBlip hackable digital synth / synthesizer
"This desirable portable digital synth was imported imported as a kit from Canada and built in the UK. It is in excellent cosmetic condition and full working order, and is capable of producing a wide range of retro/chiptunes style lead sounds, as well as drones and basses. It is surprisingly versatile, and I am only selling it due to now my analogue modular synth rendering it somewhat redundant.
There is a MIDI in socket on the back of the unit, alongside a 1/4" audio out jack, and a USB socket - the synth is powered by the USB cable (USB cable included), but can be easily adapted for a 9V power supply if desired.
As an open source synthesizer, all details of the MeeBlip are publicly available, and both the hardware and software can be modified (i.e. hacked) if you so wish. There is a large and active community of users and modders.

OLSON XX-100 RARE Beat Box Drum machine
"1970`s Olson XX-100 Rhythm Beat. This unit is getting harder to find all the time.It is in nice, slightly used condition and comes with it`s origional sholder strap. It measures 5 1/4 inches tall,11 3/4 wide and 10 inches deep.It is a component type unit, needs to be hooked up to an amp.The locking rhythms range from waltz to cha-cha, with adjustable volume and tempo speed from fast to slow. The playable, or non locking selectable buttons add bass drum, tom-tom,conga,claves,snare drum, maracas and cymbals . It works fine, ready to make noise or a good piece for the collector. it is a real flashback to the days gone by."
