Kinetic Gates without a Model 32

Kinetic Gates without a Model 32 from Pete Shambler on Vimeo.

"Trying to recreate the "Kinetic Gate" outputs of the Plan B Model 32 joystick using a Flight of Harmony Choices and Doepfer A-156 Dual Quantizer.

Patch:

X and Y voltage outputs from Choices are mixed together and sent to the CV in on the A-156. Trigger out from the quantizer to an envelope channel on Maths, Maths CV out to VCA CV in.

Quantizer CV out to 1v/oct input on VCO (in this case an e350 Morphing Terrarium).

(copies of the X and Y outputs are sent to the X and Y morph inputs on the e350)

That's it! Changing the quantizer settings changes the voltage output obviously, but also the amount of new voltages being created, which in turn affects the number of triggers it will be spitting out.

MacBeth X-Series Dual SV Filter Demo 1

MacBeth X-Series Dual SV Filter Demo 1 from Ken MacBeth on Vimeo.

"Hello again! Here is the first demo- if not basic- of the the new Macbeth X-Series Dual SV (State Variable) Filter module. Being used in conjucntion with it are 2 x X-Series Oscillators (along with sub octaves) giving a very rich sound! Listen out for the stereo sample and hold modulation. When the switch is thrown to invert on one modulation channel- the stereo becomes very aparent. Remember- this is just one module doing the proccessing! Also seen here is a prototype idea for a six input mixer with noise- not dissimilar to the 8 input Mixer 'A' from my Mk1 Series.....
The Dual SV Filter is being swept by one EG from the Mk1 Dual EG module. Audio and control jacks in the the Dual SV Filter are normalised."

Midi Integrator

Full details on altKeyboards

"A simple way to convert PC inputs; keyboard, mouse, joystick and more into midi input, combine with other midi instrument input, enhance, and then route to instruments, with quick re-configuration.
Highlights:

Allows adding pitch-bend and modulation controls, via one or more touch-pads or a mouse, to any midi system
Allows regular Midi instruments to be controlled and routed much more easily
Triggers a note, control command, pitch bend, or preset action by any input as desired
Can convert your PC-keyboard into an auxiliary midi-input controller and keyboard
Works especially well with 2-dimensional instruments like the Axis-49, Starrlabs instruments, Tenori-On, or Harpejj
Enables features that are normally considered “high-end” in keyboards, such as keyboard splitting (parts of a keyboard playing other instrumental sounds), and key and octave shifting at the touch of a key.
Extensible with a Max/MSP development system. For example, it can be made fully micro-tonal
Gives the ability to easily do things that used to be hard or slow to do in midi
provided executable runs on Windows or Mac platforms, with source code provided"

Synth.nl on the Jupiter-80 - Hands On Impression

"Most people start with comparing it with the Jupiter 8. Well I can tell you it has nothing to do with that classic. So forget that association right away!.. In the GAIA you have 3 one oscillator synths that you can stack all with their own LFO, Filter, VCA, two envelopes and an effects sections. Well you can stack 8 of those in the Jupiter 80 without any polyphonic restrictions. So that gives you 27 one oscillator synthesizers in a stack :P I can tell you the sound power coming from that is amazing."

See Synth.nl for the full impression.

Therizinosaur: Gamelan Life Seq

YouTube Uploaded by Alxasaurus on Apr 8, 2011

"Just an improvisation and the first impression of the NI Reaktor 5.51, with the newly revamped Newscool

Amazingly, unlike any other step sequencer, Newscool uses "Life Sequencer" which possesses a concept of "Conway's Game of Life" or simply "Life" by J. Conway in 1970.

Even though, SonicCouture also uses such concept for KONTAKT in form of scripts available in Scriptorium

Preset: Gamellan
Recorder: Fraps"

This is a slightly modified Firmware v0.92 (shows xox style LED in the sequence direction menu); using the new patch combo browse, which loads patch and sequence in parallel.

All Homemade Patches, sequences mostly homemade.

Drums from the MD. A bit of Lexicon reverb of the noisy snares and the "Luetin" part."

DSI Prophet '08 Module: Advanced Sequence

YouTube Uploaded by maskineri on Apr 9, 2011

"DSI Prophet '08 Module: Advanced Sequence
Audio & video by Arjen Schat

I bought the Prophet '08 Module back in 2008 but never really used the internal step sequencer to its full potential. In this video I use three layered sequences which were all composed using the internal step sequencers. The first sequence modulates the pitch of oscillator 1 in layer A, the second sequence modulates the pitch of oscillator 2, also in layer A. The third sequence modulates the pitch of both oscillators in layer B.

I use key step triggers to trigger the different steps of the sequences and alternate between three different notes with yet another sequence coming from my DAW (Renoise). These notes transpose the pitch of the sequences at their respective steps and create intricate polyrhythms due to the different lenghts of the internal sequences and the key step trigger sequence from Renoise.
The notes in the trigger sequence are also transposed a few times to keep things sonically interesting.

The audio is routed through a Moog MF-104Z BBD delay, a Maxon AD999 BBD delay and T-Rex Room-mate reverb."

Analog Synth Modules: Filter, Oscillators, LFOs PAIA

This does NOT track at any known standard, i.e. 1v/octave. You can't play tunes with this unless you are very creative. 1 space width. 2). Filter module, based on Craig Anderton's wah filter from the "Electronic Projects for Musicians" book. Homemade circuit board with lots of knobs. Rather gritty. 2 space width. 3). Dual LFO module with rate control: these are Blacet LFO PCBs that he used to sell for his CZ-101 Instamod. 1 space width.

Circuit Bending a Roland TR-77 aka Bentley Rhythm Ace FR-8L

Details on the bends on Circuitbenders.co.uk. Interesting bit on the history of the TR-77:

"Why both names you might ask? Well, before Roland came into existence there was a company in the 70's called Acetone who distributed several drum machines of the 'sit on top of your home organ' variety. These machines were mostly firmly in the Rhumba and Bossanova camps, but in the UK they were marketed under the name Bentley Rhythm Ace, which is as good a name as any i guess. Eventually all these distributors morphed into the mighty beast that was Roland in the late 70's and early 80's, but many of their product ranges seem to have been redesigned and sold as Roland machines, often at the same time as appearing under other names. One of these is the Bentley Rhythm Ace FR8L which is to all intents and purposes a Roland TR77 drum machine, the first product ever to bear the Roland name."

You can find an image of the FR-8L in this previous post. For comparison, here is a pic of an FR-6.
