"The Roland Synthesizer 101 was part of the 5 module System 100, the Synth 101 being the heart and soul of the system.
This rare, mint Synth 101 is a 37 key analog mono synth with controls for the VCO, LFO, VCF, VCA and more. The tone from this synth is suprisingly and shockingly thick, subwoofer use is highly recommended! This synth is in excellent condition and has been thoroughly tested in the Roland certified service department of Professional Sound and Music
Made from 1975 - 1979"

"TR-606 with Analog Solutions mods:

midi in/thru
hats decay
toms distortion
toms tone
cymbals tone
trigger LEDs
separate outs
sequencer run/off switch
hats filter

The attached box has further functions but may not be hooked up, maybe needs a re solder. Originally modded in the UK. The markings say: snare decay, oscilatorz, snare filter, noise, cymbal rez, snare snap, snare tone. Snare does not trigger. But even without these this unit already sounds better than my un modded 606..."

BISCUITING

Mute or invert each of the 8 bits of the digital signal by pressing one of the 8 rectangular switches, to generate strong distortions with an intense digital character. Lower the sample frequency down to 250 Hz for aliasing effects and use the multimode analog filter to get a warm and fat sound. You can mix this 8-bit sound with the direct signal via two separate knobs.

EFFECTS:

Add one of the following 8-bit effects to your bit modifications : Waveshaper, Delay, Pitchshifter, Step Filter Each effect contains one or several parameters to set.

PRESETS :

Save all the BISCUIT functions (bit status, knobs positions, effects and filter settings) to one of its 16 presets. You can also save as many presets as you like on your computer using the Preset Dump function (MIDI SysEx).

MIDI :

BISCUIT is MIDI compatible. Every pot, switch and effects setting can be sent or can be controlled by a continuous controller message (known as CC). BISCUIT accepts MIDI Clock messages to synchronize Delay and Step filter effects. BISCUIT firmware can be upgraded via a MIDI SysEx file.

"Designed to control Roland polyphonic synths that were equipped with a DCB (Dig. Control Bus) interface via the Roland MC4 micro composer. They are connected with a DCB cable.( not supplied) The OP8 and MC4 were then patched together using patchcords via each of their patchbays. The transpose control was able to transpose the synth up or down by one octave. Use a mono analog synth /sequencer such as an MC-202 to drive your Jupiter or Juno as I did through the OP-8 and you will find it also adds a different colour to the mix. Unlimited possibilities especially today with the Midi to CV like Kenton where you can use each channel to play different melodies to drive your synth..."

Fred Savage Playing an Electronic Sruti Box

"Fred Savage playing a Dhruva Deluxe Electronic Sruti Box"

Wonder Years Fred Savage?

via sgerasimuk

"The shruti box is an Indian drone instrument. It is a small box whose only function is to provide the drone; there are two basic forms, manual and electronic. The manual form is a small free reed organ. It has no keys, can play no melody, and is pumped by some small bellows with the hand.
In the last few decades, the electronic versions have become very popular. The electronic ones have evolved considerably over the last few decades. Original versions were simple analogue devices that tended to drift and were unreliable, but advances in digital technology have brought them to a high level of reliability. Such versions are commonly referred to as "electronic tamburas".
Although the surpeti is common throughout India, their usage differs considerably. Hindustani musicians will regularly use them in practice but usually would not consider bringing them onto the stage. Carnatic musicians very regularly use them in stage performances.

The syth reproduces the sound of a conventional tanpura but, does it all through electronics. There are many different tuning capabilities ie; pitch, tone, key, tempo etc..."

KORG MS-20mini EG2 behavior
Published on Mar 23, 2013 AudioCentralMagazine·122 videos

"The KORG MS-20 EG2 acts in a way fairly different from standard: while is a "normal" ADSR on VCA, his Sustain pot works as an inverted offset for the EG output hardwired to VCFs. So, when you turn Sustain clockwise, you'll lower full voltage for EG output (the Cutoff will goes dooooown), when you turn Sustain counterclockwise, you'll raise full voltage for EG output (the Cutoff will goes up). Due to the dual EG 2 destination (VCA and VCF) you'll not be able to hear the effect with enough clarity; so, is mandatory to connect EG1 on VCA gain and leave EG2 on filter control. Weird, but effective."

MMF Monome Beap 23032013

Published on Mar 23, 2013 stretta·72 videos

"I spent this week 'modularizing' monome apps to work with Beap. Friday night, my new Make Noise MMF arrives. I'm a bit of a low pass gate snob, so I was pretty excited to plug it in. In this video, the MMG is pretty much the only thing you're hearing. I'm modulating the MMG with four sources, three of them sequences driven by the monome. There are five sequencers in all, and there is a monome 64 switching among them. The other two sequencers are modulating pitch and FM index of a two operator FM pair, using the FM osc in Beap. This is sent directly to the MMG.

At one point I throw in a post-MMG VCA because I had that patched in to experiment with ring clamping, but I don't use it for long.

Beap can be downloaded at my github.

Maestro Rhythm King MRK-4 Analog Vintage Drum Machine

Note: links to listings are affiliate links for which the site may be compensated.
via this auction

"This is an analogue drum machine from the mid 1970s. It uses inductor coils or "tuned tanks" to produce its sound in a similar way to the Roland TR-77 and the Korg Mini-Pops. The modulator section is key to this unit and sets it apart from other drum machines of the era. You can connect an instrument to the rear modulator input (say, a synthesizer), and then that input gets triggered by the Rhythm King' beat. Must be heard to believe. YouTube this, and you'll hear that feature. Very cool.

It's a rare piece, especially in this condition. All sounds work, all rhythms work and all sliders are nice and crackle-free. There are 10 sounds and 16 rhythms plus an intro/break feature. The rhythms can be combined as is typical with these older 'diode matrix' rhythm units. The two cymbal sounds have various decay amounts depending on the rhythms chosen ranging from a short maracas type sound to open high-hat. This is a heavy unit in tolex."
