1010music Introduces Bitbox Touch Screen Eurorack Sampler Module

"1010music Ships bitbox, the First Touch Screen Eurorack Sampler Module

Los Angeles, CA, November 14, 2016 - 1010music (http://www.1010music.com) is shipping bitbox, a revolutionary new 26HP Eurorack sampler that features an app-style interface to provide modular synthesizer systems with on-the-fly, synchronized, 24-bit audio recording and playback of up to 16 simultaneous samples. Use bitbox to quickly record the output of cool patches and electronic jams as high-quality files. Recordings can be locked to the patch clock and recorded to bar/sync boundaries, so there is no fussing to find loop points. For playback, just launch any combination of up to 16 audio clips via a simple touch screen grid interface designed for speed and function. Creative options abound and include triggering samples as loops or one-shots via MIDI, CV Gate and modulation. Use modulation inputs to launch rows of up to four clips at a time to easily create complex, new layers of sounds. Save or load up to 12 banks of samples to microSD card, so you can easily recreate your set and/or use the samples and loops in Mac or PC applications. There’s even support for Ableton Live format.

Bitbox adds new creative possibilities to Eurorack, with its straight-forward touch screen interface, high-quality 24-bit recording, and innovative sample manipulation capabilities.

Features:
• Playback of up to 16 simultaneous samples from internal memory or up to 4 directly from microSD. • Trigger samples via touch screen, CV gate inputs, or MIDI input
• Import or export WAV files with your Mac or PC using a microSD card (included)
• Free samples including beats and other samples by producer Jason Donnelly (DJ Puzzle)
• 24-bit/48kHz stereo input for high quality recordings, with stereo output and two mono effects sends
• Stereo or mono recording with the option to synchronize start/stop times to clock inputs with a maximum recording time of up to 4 hours
• Multiple clip Launch Modes, including One-Shot, Toggle, Gate, and a Repeat mode to allow quantized retriggering of clips while a key is held or via the touch screen. Normal playback resumes when the key or button is released.
• Scene Trigger, which plays back an entire row of four clips/loops at once via touch screen or modulation inputs (which can also be assigned to modulate sample start, length, or pitch)
• Playback can be immediate or synchronized to analog or MIDI clock
• Control of sample parameters, including start position, length, gain, loop mode, launch quantization and pitch, including pitch modulation via CV input
• Save/recall up to 12 different banks of samples and their configuration
• Import bitbox Presets (a 4x4 bank of samples with playback parameters) directly into Ableton Live
• Accepts TRS MIDI input compatible with Arturia and other products
• 26 HP Eurorack compatible. +12V: 350mA, -12V: 0mA, 5V: 0mA
bitbox can be purchased for $599.95 direct from 1010music starting 11/14/2016 or through it’s fine network of dealers you can find at 1010music.com. For user or dealer inquiries please contact sales@1010music.com. For review and press inquiries, please contact marketing@1010music.com.

1010 Bitbox Micro/MK2: Multisampling is easy and fun!

Patchwerks Seattle

"In this video Nick Bigelow of Patchwerks walks us through multisampling on the new 1010 Bitbox Micro. Using the Moog DFAM as a sound source Nick is able to quickly create accurate polyphonic samples which he triggers using the Novation Launch Pad Pro Mk3.

1010 Bitbox Micro:
Bitbox micro provides Eurorack sampling for smaller racks and smaller budgets. In only 18 HP of rack space you can get a touch screen based sampler with support for 8 stereo sample pads. Now you can record samples directly into the module or load them from the microSD card. Trigger your samples via CV or MIDI, then apply effects and mix the outputs. Save your configurations to multiple presets for later reuse.

Order 1010 Bitbox Micro here: https://bit.ly/bitbox_micro

Moog DFAM:
DFAM is the first addition to the Mother-32 family of synthesizers and presents an expressive hands-on approach to percussive pattern creation. It requires no patching, and absolutely no experience is needed for human-beings of any age to quickly begin synthesizing new and unique rhythmic compositions.

Order Moog DFAM here: https://bit.ly/dfam_moog

Novation Launch Pad Pro:
Launchpad Pro is our most powerful 64-pad MIDI grid controller for producing: both in Ableton Live and with your hardware. It gives you everything you need to create and perform your tracks. Tailor Launchpad Pro to your setup, then take control of MIDI-compatible hardware and software — with or without a computer. Use Custom Modes to send MIDI commands to software and hardware simultaneously. Hook Launchpad Pro up to an all-hardware rig using MIDI In, Out and Out 2/Thru ports on 3.5mm connectors.

Frap Tools Brenso & 1010 BitBox Micro Eurorack Modular Synthesizer Jam

Perfect Circuit

"In this jam we used the new Brenso oscillator from Frap Tools as the main synth voice, the 1010 Music Bitbox Micro is providing the drum samples and the sequencing is provided by the Make Noise 0-CTRL and ALM Pam’s New Workout.

The Brenso is a dual oscillator capable of frequency and amplitude modulation as well as the ability to sync the oscillators to each other. There is also a built in wave shaper that allows you to dynamically control harmonics. The wave shaper section can also be used as a VCA, this allows you to just add an envelope generator and have a complete synth voice. In this video we used the Frap Tools Falistri to generate envelopes to modulate the amplitude and FM amount. One of the patches uses a little bit of filtering from the new version of the Mutable Instruments Ripples. Using a sequencer like the 0-CTRL for this type of synth voice works well since you can control the pitch as well as other parameters. We also added some modulation with the XAOC Batumi quad LFO.

The drum sounds are all samples from the new 1010 Music Bitbox Micro which is a smaller version of the original Bitbox, even though it is smaller it still has 8 channels and is a good option to add sampling to your eurorack modular. The drums are sequenced by the Pam’s New Workout used as a clock divider.

You were not supposed to see this | Multi Sample DPO (from 2034)

video upload by Cinematic Laboratory

"When I made the Deckard's Dreams video yesterday [below], I tried to multi-sample a Shared System patch. I thought it would be cool to sample a big duophonic patch with movement an effects - and sample a range of C2 to C6 into bitbox so I could play it like this huge machine of countless Shared Systems.

I am going to try Strega too one day. It felt like magic, almost like patching on 'forbidden ground'. Then I tought it would be cool to use a bit of click-bait and imagine myself in 2034 when I'd have 1M likers and 1.1M haters while collecting forbidden MakeNoise gear on the Black market. I realize it may be too farfetched for some of you, but this is real. It's a private video and you are not supposed to see it anyway."

Deckard's Dreams | BitBox Multi-Sampling & Deckard's Voice

video upload by Cinematic Laboratory

"BitBox MK2 (and the Micro) offer support for 'multi-sampling'. It's an easy automated process where BitBox will send pitch CV and a gate to sample a range of notes and lay them out on the keyboard. So with this simple trick, you could turn any VCO into a polyphonic velocity sensitive patch. In this case, it helps me to turn Deckard's Voice (mono) into a (static) CS-80 patch which still can be filtered, enveloped, etc. But it's also possible to play the VCO while sampling, so you'd get a rich pad with lots of movement. It's the first time I used this technique and it will not be the last."

Haken Continuum / EaganMatrix: Continuum + Bitbox + EaganMatrix Module = "Aleatoric Music 1010"

video upload by EaganMatrix Programming

"Here's a fun combination to create a simple Aleatoric Performance that will be different every time you create it. I sampled 16 different Haken Continuum preset performances of different lengths into a 1010 Music bitbox, some of which are custom built on random elements (like the drone that runs throughout in slot 1). Then I randomly triggered them starting with the drone that sets the overall time of the piece (ca. 4 minutes). The output of the Bitbox is sent into an EaganMatrix module for Master Section reverb processing (Modulated Delay) and also dynamic stereo tapped delay processing that uses an oscillating tap percentage on each channel at two different rates and amounts to create a shimmering pitch shifting effect on the output. Everything is Haken Continuum manipulated sounds. Of course, I could sample in a totally different set of things next time and create this kind of music easily all day long."

Sequenced Jam #192 (w/ Noise Engineering Desmodus Versio)

Rheyne

"Some more experiments with lighting controlled by the modular synth. The main synth voices are from a Steady State Fate ZPO through a Noise Engineering Desmodus Versio, and an Instruo Ts-L through a Strymon Magneto. Bass is from a Roland SYS-510, the piano is from a 1010music Bitbox Micro, and percussion is from an SSF Entity BDS, Noise Engineering LIP, and the Bitbox Micro. All sequencing was done with the NerdSEQ.

All audio was sent to Ableton through a pair of outs on an Expert Sleepers ES-9 to trigger the lights with an Enttec DMXIS. The piano was played through the outs on the ES-9 and into the Bitbox Micro, and is triggered manually as a stereo sample. Recorded in one take with no overdubs."

1010Music Series 1 Eurorack Powerhouse: Review+sound test for Bitbox, Fxbox and Synthbox

Published on Jul 24, 2018 loopop

"A few years ago 1010Music released Bitbox – a simplified but extremely powerful Ableton-Live style sampler, slicer and clip launcher – by far the most advanced Eurorack sampler I've ever seen. Where it gets a little confusing is that since then they've released two completely different firmware versions for the same hardware – Fxbox and Synthbox, which transform it into radically different modules. I'm not talking about just updates with new features (which have also come out separately), but rather alternate firmware versions with entirely different functionality. In parallel, they've released independent modules with said firmware versions, which can also load each other's firmware.

The Grainmakers Playlist

video uploads by Cinematic Laboratory

"This playlist features granular eurorack modules that all need to process the same reference sample. I hope this gives a good impression of what the modules can do for you. They're all different, they're all great."

Playlist:

1. Grainmakers Playlist Introduction
I've been working on a huge video over the last few days and when I reached 30 minutes I decided to break it up into a playlist. This is cool! I can make updates and add new modules as they emerge. It's not supposed to be the ultimate grain guide, but it's cool to hear all modules chew on the same sample and hear what comes out. It's easy to be impressed by a bad module with a great soundsource, or underwhelmed by an amazing module that need to process something unworthy of its grains. So it all comes down to what they have to offer. And there are no bad modules. It's great fun to hear how a standard concept can turn into completely different experiences. So this is just a short playlist introduction.
2. Mutable Instruments Beads | Grainmakers Playlist
In this episode, Beads needs to chew on a reference performance.
Beads is an effect, but it can process an internal wavetable synth on its own.
3. Qu-Bit Nebulae V2 | Grainmakers Playlist
Our next contender in the playlist is the Qu-Bit Nebulae. It may be a bit underappreciated, but wow. A unique feature is elastic audio for time stretching.
4. Qu-Bit Mojave | Grainmakers Playlist
Next, Mojave needs to chew on Sebastian Lexer's grand piano.
5. Loopers | Lubadh & Morphagene | Grainmakers Playlist
Loopers are often confused with granular synths, especially with the Morphagene. Loopers don't grain or spray, they're digital tape machines.
Sometimes, when you think you're into grains, you'd actually been looking for a looper. It's time to show the difference, so they're an important addition to the lineup.
6. 1010Music BitBox MK2 | Grainmakers Playlist
The BitBox may not seem an obvious choice for granular processing, but if this playlist were a competition, then BitBox MK2 would be the King of the Grainfields. Granular processing offers limited CV support in the current firmware, but the sheer processing power is almost an insult to the other modules. Fortunately, it can't offer the hands-on experience like dedicated modules.
7. Error Instruments x TINRS Brinta | Grainmakers Playlist

8. Melotus Versio | Grainmakers Playlist
It's a Versio. What can I say. Awkward, special, amazing and breathtaking. It's unique feature is no pitch control. While this sounds like a flaw, it's almost a musthave feature when you run notes, effects and chords through it. Don't touch the melody. Just make it grain. Top 3 module in my list. And if it doesn't fit your needs, install a different firmware! If you own a different Versio, give it a shot. Nothing creates techno atmospheres and backdrops like Melotus.
9. MISO Cornflakes | Grainmakers Playlist
This is the last one for today :). Still a few more modules to cover, but it's already a great list. Here's MISO Cornflakes chewing on the Lexer piano. Again, it's a totally different experience, because Cornflakes adds special harmonizing features and stacking of grains. No other module has it - as far as I know. It can make wonderful new sounds from something familiar.
10. Instruo Arbhar V2 | Grainmakers Playlist
I already made plenty of Arbhar videos, but this is the second V2 video. In this playlist, all granular modules in my collection need to process the same audio file so it's easy to figure out what they do. Now it's Arbhar's turn.
11. Clouds & Clones | Grainmaker Playlist
This playlist would not be complete without a tribute to Clouds, one of the first modules in Eurorack that brought grains to the case. Clouds was launched in 2015 and discontinued in 2017. But that wasn't the end of it. It's been revived and extended in many forms, making it one of the most successful modules in Eurorack even today. From a techical perspective, Clouds is no match for the modern grainmakers in this playlist. But from the perspective of production value it's still a super useful module, especially if you manage to install the Parasite firmware. It's easy to forget that granular synthesis doesn't need big buffers. Sometimes a small 1 sec buffer is exactly what you need to get that desirable classic granular stream.
12. Combinations | Grainmaker Playlist
I got a question if Lubadh and Mojave would make a good combo. I had no idea. I figured this whole playlist is still 1-dimensional. So I patched these two up and then and I just had to make this video! I am still using the reference track so you get a good idea of how big the sonic playground becomes when you combine any looper with any granular engine. Results may vary, but wow. The bottom of the Rabbit Hole simply has a doorway to the next one. And it always gets deeper than the one before.
13. ADDAC 112 | Grainmakers Playlist
I may have unintentionally kept the best for last. The 112 combines a looper and granular engine in one big module. This is the last entry in the playlist.
The 112 will return soon for a dedicated video with some carefully selected samples to play with.
14. I missed a few | Grainmakers Playlist
After finishing the 112 video I was confident I covered enough 'grainmakers' in this playlist. I doublechecked if Disting EX and Phonogene should be in it, but no. The third one definitely needs to be on it! It doesn't show up when you search for 'granular' on ModularGrid, but it immediately went to my personal top #2.
