Benge's Bouncing Buchla

Published on Feb 9, 2016 zack dagoba

"When applied to the trigger of a Dual Attack Generator, the exponential nature of a second Dual Attack Generator module (with a long decay rate) modulating the frequency of a Timing Pulse Generator, which is controlling the aforementioned Dual Attack Generator, produces this bouncing ball effect. Eric Archer Analog Computer Bouncing Ball 2

Published on Sep 5, 2016 EA78751

"Eric Archer of Rare Waves LLC demonstrates an analog computer model of a particle bouncing on a vibrating table. The collision events and velocity data are used to synthesize audio by triggering a voltage controlled percussion module. The side-scrolling oscilloscope display shows the particle position (top trace) and the table position (bottom trace). Many interesting aspects of chaotic dynamics are observed, and we also learn that it sounds really cool.

How to create complex bouncing ball simulations - with ADDAC 503 Marble Physics

video upload by Monotrail Tech Talk

"The ADDAC 503 Marble Physics is a module that simulates the behavior of a ball on a square plane. The plane can be tilted over two axes, and you can control things like the elasticity off the edge of the plane, and simulation speed. That sounds like fun, but in this video I also show how it can be used to create interesting patches, and control voltages."

nonlinearcircuits DIY business card

Published on Feb 17, 2015 cirtcele

"Decided I need a business card, so whynot make it a chaotic analogue neuron circuit as well? 0.6mm PCB, ROHS compliant. the circuit is something like a bouncing ball circuit, though it has a few sweet spots where the ball bounces all over the place."

Analogue Solutions had a DIY business card as well.

Weird Things in Synth Manuals...

This one came on the AH list via Chris Strellis

"The Emax manual says:
'Bird Run is the function that align's the Emax's internal stabilizers and prevents excessive gyrocosmic relativation.

During this process you need to carefully observe the display for any signs of destabilization (eg. gravitational warps, apparent speeding up or slowing down of time, objects in mirrors appearing closer than they really are). If Emax returns to the Module Identifier after a few seconds, all is well.

Note: Occasionally a small emu will get trapped within the Emax and run across the screen during the stabilization scan process. This does not affect Emax's normal functions.'

Picture of that process here" If you know of others, feel free to share.

Update via Sasa Rasa in the comments: "Also, DX5 posted recently a nice video showing the bird run feature"

Emu Emax curiosities

YouTube via DX5

"Tweaking across some hilarious messages in the Emax.

First, the "Bird Run function"

According to manual:
"This function aligns Emax internal stabilizers and prevents excessive gyrocosmic relativation. (...) Occasionally a small Emu will get trapped within the emax and run across the screen during the stabilizaton scan process. This does not affect the normal Emax fuctions"

Also, the message displayed when you try to play empty sequencies."

Update via Zeroc001:
"Kurzweil k 2000/2500/2600 keyboard Easter Egg - Ping Pong on Your Kurzweil
Press the MASTER button, then the UTIL soft button, then the ( ) empty space soft button and finally, the SETUP button. You will see "Welcome to the K2000 game!" Use your data wheel to move your "paddle" to meet the bouncing ball. When you're done, press the EXIT button several times to quit.

by following the instructions above, you will have the pleasure of seeing your expensive, state-of-the-art music workstation turned into a 1980´s low-tech computergame : ping pong !
the programmers claim this to be the father of all video games.
I tried myself on my own k 2000, as soon as I heard of this. It works."

followed-by:

"oh, and btw: more copy/pasta on Kurtzweil Pong:

If you're stuck with a case of crushing writer's block, Kurzweil Pong actually outputs notes from MIDI channel 16, changing notes depending on the ball's position while you play. Assign any program you want to channel 16 and Pong yourself a new melody. Or try setting Channel #16 as the Drum Channel (on the [MASTER] page) and choose a suitable drum program. This way you can claim to be actually making music!"

ALM Busy Circuits has been creating incredible eurorack modules for the last 10 years, and on the eve of their birthday they give back with the unveiling of Pamela's Pro Workout!"

Originally released in 2012 and updated to ’Pamela’s NEW Workout’ in 2016, the next evolution of Pam, the ‘PRO Workout edition’ will be released by ALM Busy Circuits on the 18th November 2022 worldwide.

Over the last 10 years Pamela’s Workout has cemented its place in Eurorack systems as a must have unique module. Originating as a useful 8 channel clock & function generator it quickly morphed into so much more; a groove box capable of creating Euclidean & randomised rhythms, a generative music maker turning random control voltages into looped quantised melodies or endless generative melodic sequences. A lot of functions that attracted people to Eurorack were accessible in a compact 8HP ‘Swiss Army knife’ - hence its appeal.

With ‘Pamela’s PRO Workout‘ ALM have built on the original designs maintaining the functional form factor and intuitive workflow adding exciting new features:

A Bigger Hi-Res Full Colour Display: Clearer user interface, visual grids, bigger text, colour options and more.

New Wave shapes: Ratchets, Trapezoid, Parabola & 2 new envelope options.

Cross Output Modulations: Link 2 outputs together to create a unique mix of control voltage for resetting, logic functions & creating unique waveforms.

Flex Operations: Utilise ‘micro grid timings’ to create bouncing ball type beat loops, sped up / slowed down outputs or just general chaos.

More CV Inputs: Up to 4 inputs now available for CV control over Pam’s functionality.

Faster dual core processing: with increased timing and output resolution

SSF Propagate Micro Beats

SSF Propagate Micro Beats from joseph fraioli on Vimeo.

"patch exploring micro percussion possibilites of the steady state fate propagate module.

micro beats - achieved by running four separate clock signals into the SSF propagate (chaos computer binary outs x2 clocked by the 4MS SCM and 2 channels of the 4MS PEG clocked by the SCM and divided) . Propagate delay and space times were adjusted then the SUM output fed into a vca. one sound source (cyclebox) was used for all of the micro percussion. the vca out then went into the tiptop z-dsp with dragonfly delay card. the program changes are happening by way of wogglebug stepped output to the program change in on the z-dsp. additional modulation of the parameters of the z-dsp are coming from the synth tech e355.

kick drum - hertz donut mark 2 through the make noise optomix with a bit of an openess on the control att to create the sustained drone.

hi hat like thing - SSF quantum rainbow purple noise out into the SSF PTG with additional level adjustment by the SSF ground control. this is then fed into the grendel formant filter then the mungo d0 for timbre variance. clock source for this is the pamelas workout into the PTG which is being clocked by the 4MS SCM.

reversed maths bouncing ball - one channel of maths being clocked again by the 4ms SCM with the fall time modulated by the synth tech e355. sound source here is braids being FMed by a dixie.

main clock source for the patch was an intellijel dixie.

Kammerl Beat-Repeat Effect for Mutable Instrument's Clouds

via http://www.kammerl.de/audio/clouds/

"This is an alternative firmware for Mutable Instruments Clouds which enables real-time slicing / beat-repeat features ported from the Kammerl Kaske VST plugin suite.

Note: The original four modes of the official firmware are still present and have not been modified. This firmware simply adds a fifth mode to your Clouds module with new real-time beat and sound manipulation features.

Kammerl Beat-Repeat mode

Note: This mode requires a clock signal plugged into the Trigger input. Without a clock signal, it holds the most recent slice (or outputs silence if no clock signal has been previously provided).

The Kammerl Beat-Repeat mode analyzes the incoming clock signal to enable real-time slicing of the audio input. Each slice can be played back with different loop, pitch and distortion settings.

Dusty Revelator | Eurorack & OP-1

Published on Mar 21, 2017 Dusty Patches

"Patch notes:
Ornament & Crime in Automatonnetz mode sends voltage to four sound sources: PIttsburgh Waveforms, Braids, Clouds, and Disting in waveshaping VCO mode. The BSP sends triggers and CV to change the root note of the triad.

Waveforms is performing root note duty and is sent to Ripples. dlADSR generates an envelope patched to Gain in Ripples. Braids and Disting are sent to the Optomix and modulated by Peaks in bouncing ball envelope mode.

Braids is in WMAP mode and has a slow LFO, attenuated by ModDemix, patched to Color. Disting is in wavefolding VCO mode is similarly patched.

Clouds is in pitchshift/timestretch mode. An envelope from dlADSR, attenuated by ModDemix, is patched to Texture which behaves kinda like an LPG. I'm wiggling the Position, Size, Density, and Texture to create different sounds.

BitBox is loaded with vintage drum machine samples (Oberheim DMX) and sent to Analogue Solutions SY02 Filter for crunchifying.

Mixing and audio output is done with Happy Nerding 3xMIA and PIttsburgh Mix Mult.

Audio is routed into the OP-1 for processing with the CWO effect. There are some audio loops triggered from the tape as well."

New ALM Pip Slope (mk II) - Overview - ALM028

ALM TV

"The ‘Pip Slope’ (mark II) is a compact envelope and function generator. It supports both Attack/Decay and Attack/Sustain/Decay type envelopes with both direct and voltage control of Attack and Decay times. Envelope shapes can be morphed between exponential, linear and logarithmic type slopes. Envelopes can be made to loop, repeating infinitely or decreasing with time or amplitude for echo and bouncing ball type effects. An ‘End of Cycle’ trigger output further extends the envelopes functionality for both clocking and burst type effects.

The mark II Pip Slope adds a number of new features and improvements over the original Pip Slope whilst remaining the same size. Improvements include increased output resolution, control of fast envelopes, shape control, 5 or 8v maximum envelope level, various loop modes and an additional trigger output."

Yamaha Releases TNR-e for iOS

iTunes: TNR-e - US - Yamaha Corporation of America. The original TNR-i is still available.

"The TENORI-ON enables people to create music intuitively and without any specialized knowledge about music using a 16 x 16 matrix button pad, and now there is the new TNR-e app that has new tones that capture the essence of dub step, progressive house/EDM, electro and other types of music not previously available.

Now you can access DubstKit and other new drum-pad tones, get fat bass tones like BriteBas and Helium, and dazzling tones of DubBAXX, Voxdance, VoodooWh, which were not previously available on the TENORI-ON, which makes this app a perfect place to start with your next multi-track project.

Using the iOS7 Inter-App Audio feature, you can control the sound sources of other compatible apps from the TNR-e, which gives you a wider range of sounds to choose from.

And only the TNR-e comes with several new attractive features and 2 master effect systems. Use the XY pad interface to apply the FILTER and six other types of effects to make your music come alive!

Use ISOLATOR and FILTER to create breaks, then, use the LOOPER to create a long trigger effect and a strong hook. EDM can be used to easily develop the song as well. Get the most out of live performances through improvisation.

SoundCloud is a hassle-free way to share data.

[About the input interface]
You can create music intuitively by ""placing"" sounds on the 16 x 16 button grid that are performed musically and visually.
On the 16 x 16 grid, time is represented horizontally, while the pitch is represented vertically.
Both rythm and melody are combined on the grid to create music.
When the sound is played, the buttons flash which also provides a stimulating visual performance.

Up to 16 tones can be played simultaneously (16 layers), and it can store up to 16 song patterns in memory (16 blocks), which can be activated during a performance in real time to produce a rich variety of musical expressions.

There are six different performance modes for each layer:
- Basic score mode: time is on the horizontal axis and pitch is on the vertical axis
- Random mode: Sounds are played in the order that they were entered, and rotating the device produces a cascade of changing melodies and rythms for your enjoyment
- Draw mode: Sounds are played in response to dragging your finger on the grid, like drawing a picture
- Bounce mode: Sounds are produced when the lights fall, just like a bouncing ball
- Push mode: Continuously change the tones as you perform
- Solo mode: Easily change the speed and pitch to play as a soloist

You can use these two tools together to create great music.

[Features]
- Newly designed tones suitable to dance music
- 253 different tone types perfect for electronic music
- 2 master effect systems (seven types: FILTER, DICIMATOR, DELAY, FLANGER, NOISE, LOOPER, ISOLATOR, LOOPER)
- New interface that even beginners can understand easily
- Inter-App Audio compatible
- AudioBus compatible
- Guide feature that explains button operations
- Multi-session feature for multiple players
- Audio recording
- User Voice function
- Yamaha Server for file sharing
- SoundCloud upload feature
- AudioCopy compatible"

Tiptop Audio & Buchla - Fake Delay & Bouncing Ball

video upload by Stazma

"Hello there!
Today I'll share with you a classic modular synth patch that I really enjoy using, it's also a great exercise to get a feel for how VCA's and envelopes can work together. It's actualy just one of the many ways you can patch this, wich will use any sound source (258t here) with the 281t, 257t and 292t as the main building blocks (you can of course patch this with similar modules). I like it in the Buchla contect as you can play with 292t modes and get different sounds this way.
Anyway, I hope this will be helpful. Have fun."

"In MakeNoise latest Maths 'bouncing ball' video, Tony Rolando spoke about a patch you could start with one button/trigger and would then play a 'song' by itself. Aleatoric Music.
I've been so intrigued by it and came up with a cool patch that does just that."
