Here, Martin explains why these sounds are seeing light of day and at 01:56 provides some inside information on one of the significant inclusions, Steve Hackett's The Voice Of Necam.

Buchla Analog Modular Synth and Voice inspired by Sci-Fi Soundscapes 🚀⚡️

video upload by The Galaxy Electric

"The fun continues. Every week we watch a vintage sci-fi film on our stream MST3K-style. This provides fun in the moment as well as endless inspiration for later. Here we conjure vibes from our time spent soaking in these tape music and vintage sci-fi soundscapes. The patch started with an arpeggiation of the "Goonies Chord" which includes the notes C, E, F, A which makes a FM7 2nd Inv. chord. The chord's sound was generated by an instance of Pro 53 VSTi by Native Instruments, arguably one of the best VSTis of all time. The arpeggiated chord was recorded into the buffer of the 1979 SMP. From there the "Position" was modulated by a slow looping function from the 281 Quad Function Generator. The noise drops were created by pinging a lowpass gate channel of the 292 that is being fed some white noise by the 266 Source of Uncertainty. The pings were being clocked by a slowly timed Pulser coming from the 245 Sequential Voltage Source. The result was fed into the 277 Signal Delay which had a delay time of over a second cued up. This creates a minimal and ever changing rhythm bed. Lastly you get some 258 Dual Oscillator Square wave that is sent to the 297 Infinite Phase Shifter. The volume level and low pass filter frequency are being controlled simultaneously by the 216 Touch Activated Voltage Source. The pitch of the Oscillator is being transposed by the 216. Got it! It's much more fun to just throw some headphones and give it a listen.

As always the lovely vocal echoes are emitting from Jacqueline's chords. Her signature chain of two Boss RE-20 Space Echoes provides an aging tape loop effect.

Remembering Bob Moog

[ Note: This post stays on top for the day. Tons going up below. Originally posted at 8:36 AM PST. ]

Today marks the fourth year of Bob Moog's passing. Play a little something for him today.

Be sure to visit The Bob Moog Foundation, and Moog Music where you'll find this wallpaper free of charge.

Don't forget, the "Waves of Inspiration: The Legacy of Moog Museum Exhibit" runs from August 29 - April 30. Keith Emerson and others will be there opening weekend.

Thank you for everything Bob. The synths, the inspiration, the humor, positive vibes and the magic.

Update: Mark Pulver's Moog tattoo. Mark was good friends with Bob Moog. I remember him getting this tattoo after his passing.

BTW, if you have anything Moog specific you'd like to send in, feel free. You can reach me at matrixsynth at gmail. Of course feel free to comment.

Also, I don't ask for a dime to run this site. I've had people suggest I put up a Paypal Donate Here button. I don't because I do have ads on the site and I believe in offering the site for free. But if you do want to donate, even just a few bucks, donate something to The Bob Moog Foundation. Little donations can add up. They are keeping not only Bob Moog's memory alive, but the magic and history of synths.

Update: On the technical side of things, here is a list of patents (creations) from Bob Moog via Jerry on the SDIY list: "well to name a few, "Voltage-Controlled Electronic Music Modules" (R.A. Moog, Journal of the Audio Engineering Society , Vol.13, No. 3, pp 200-206, July 1965...

Update via The Bob Moog Foundation:
"August 21, 2009 -- A Moog Day of Rememberance and Celebration
When August 21st comes around each year, we pause to remember Bob and the remarkable legacy that he left for us all to enjoy. His impact is so widespread that people remember him in all kinds of ways that are meaningful to their particular connection with him. Take a moment today to pay tribute to Bob by:

* Connecting with Bob through your instrument. Lay down a killer lead on your synth or play an ethereal melody on your theremin.

* Listening to some of your favorite Moog tunes. Bob loved working with musicians and fed off their creative drive. He was often astonished at what they could do with his instruments.

* Going out and hear some live music tonight. Bob believed deeply in live music as a force that brings people together in community.

* Reading about Bob's life, work, and legacy. Visit the CaringBridge site and read Ileana Grams-Moog's reflection on today's significance.

* Supporting the Bob Moog Foundation. We carry Bob's legacy forward by inspiring and educating people through electronic music. Donate here so that we can continue our important work.

Today we also celebrate the Bob Moog Foundation's third anniversary of making waves. Next week we head to the Museum of Making Music in Carlsbad, CA for the opening of the first exhibit featuring Bob's archives. The exhibit, Waves of Inspiration. The Legacy of Moog, pays tribute to Bob's impact and celebrates his legacy, just as we are doing at the foundation today.

[link updated]

"50 years ago, American maverick inventor Robert Moog began developing electronic instruments that altered the course of modern music for all time and have since become an integral part of our musical culture. Jordan Rudess, keyboard virtuoso, and Richard Lainhart, synthesist extraordinaire, will be performing live online on Sunday, May 23, at 1 PM Eastern Daylight Savings Time, to honor Bob Moog on his 70th birthday, and on the 50th anniversary of his company Moog Music. We'll be using old and new Moog instruments exclusively, including a vintage Mini-Moog, a modern Moog Voyager Mini-Moog, Arturia's Moog Modular V software, and a Moog Etherwave Theremin, in a classic electronic space improvisation streaming live on the Internet from O-Town Live."

Bob was a great man, and a good friend, and we still miss him."

With "sound by Moog" written up there at the top as I recall. It sounds REALLY bad, but grainy as hell in a good way. I'd be surprised if it was 8-bit. More like 4..."

10 mins of Buchla Modular Synth, Looping & Vocals 🚀⚡️GSG SYNTHON 3 Year Anniversary Special

video upload by The Galaxy Electric

"Full video performance available inside THE VORTEX for VOYAGER VIP & COUNCIL Members Only: https://thegalaxyelectric.com/jointhe...

Fun patching with the Buchla inspired 200 series system. We used a combo of modules but some of the stars of the show were the 259 Programmable Complex Waveform Generator. We have the1979 Stereo Microsound Processor getting a lot of love (Mutable Instruments Clouds based). We're usually sampling either bits of cassette tape recordings or the radio. This is the module's strong suit. Very deep vibes in deep space, this one. Don't forget to come back....or not...

Big thanks to our friends and fellow artists the Golden Shrimp Guild for the opportunity and venue for this lovely experience."

YAMAHA TX816 - 8 DX7 Synthesizer Modules in 1 w/ Docs & Flight Case

Note: Auction links are affiliate links for which the site may be compensated.

via this auction

"I set up these modules so that they each generally pertain to a certain kind of sound, though some modules are more varied. For instance:
Module 1 is all bass sounds, including a great Tuba sound
Module 2 is mostly pianos and clavs.
Module 3 is mostly electric pianos and bells.
Module 4 is organs and synthy organs, which a timpani thrown in for fun.
Module 5 is mostly strings, with some percussion.
Module 6 is mostly brass and some great pads
Module 7 includes woodwinds, harmonicas, vibes, and more percussion.
Module 8 includes guitars and an assorted mix of more interesting sounds.

I very selectively searched through hundreds of sounds to choose the ones I have here. I was looking for the most musically useable. I tended to stay away from very reverberant sounds, because I figured that reverb can always be added to any sound, and obviously it can be more specifically applied in that way.

Included in the sale are the rare TX816 Operating Guide, a bunch of vintage literature, and a print-out of the names of the sounds in every module, which will help you to see how they're organized. Each column represents a different module: 1 thru 8 – a treasure chest of great sounds. Lastly, as you will see in the photos, the winner will also receive paper copies of hundreds of more charted out DX7 sounds."

Can't Smile Without You by Joe McGinty

Here's something a little different. A cover of Barry Manilow's by Joe McGinty joemcgintymusic.com.

"Julian Velard on vocals: https://julianvelard.com/ He’s a super talented NYC pianist and songwriter.

The drum beat is from the Casio MT-52. Later in the song the MPC One does the 80s sounding drums...

The 'whistle' sound at the top is the Pro 3, and the main string pads are the OB-6. The high strings are the Blofeld. Vibes are from the Kurzweil K1000 and the electric piano is the Yamaha CP-25. Bass is the Korg MS-20 (original, not reissue). If you listen closely, you’ll hear vocoded vocals as it fades. It’s the new Arturia vocoder."

"Recorded in honor of the recent passing of Rita Houston and also dedicated to the memory of Mike McPadden.

Written by Christian Arnold, Geoff Morrow, David Martin
