The Grp Synthesizer R24 is a powerful CV and gate sequencer in the tradition of classic Moog sequencers, with extended options for fine voltage tuning and complex rhythmic generation. With three total tracks of CV and Gate control and extensive opportunities to reorder steps, run sequences at different speeds, and complex gate ratcheting, and more, the R24 is an ideal controller for any CV/Gate or MIDI-capable instruments, providing a central workstation for create intricate control and timing relationships. With complex step order permutations, integrated clock dividers per row, support for MIDI clock,and easy access to 1/4" CV/Gate I/O, the R24 easily integrates into and adds tremendous depth to any type of electronic music setup, modular, semimodular, digital, or otherwise.

Let's listen to the GRP Synthesizer A2 - a very versatile analog monosynth with a high-quality sound and a huge number of modulation possibilities - and this is no exaggeration: The frequency of the two oscillators and the filter cutoff each can be influenced by one of 11 different modulation signals.

The two oscillators feature 5 waveforms each, the first VCO offers additional PWM at two waveforms, the second VCO a parameter called "Shape" which fades in nine copies of the selected waveform for super-saw and super-triangle sounds. You get a Ring Mod, Noise, Sample & Hold, two LFOs, arpeggiator and more.

The filter design has a lot of character and is capable of producing formant/vocal-like sounds and a liquid sounding resonance. The great sounding distortion parameter offers many more options for designing sounds.

With its MIDI and CV/Gate inputs this is a synthesizer that fits in all studio or live-environments. It has a good size for jamming and a quality feel - and last but not least, the A2 is proving very popular among our staff - so maybe that means something.

ARP 2600 w GRP R24 Sequencer + Swiss Daisy DSP

"The GRP Synthesizer company's R24 sequencer is driving two voices on the ARP 2600 and a third voice provided by the ZebraSynth.net Swiss Daisy DSP module, in "pluck voice" mode, with delay and reverb.
I'm using several features of the R24 including:
3 separate sequences (CV/Gate out ; MIDI also available)
Some sequences use the "ratchet" feature to double gate a single step.
The second row is only 6 steps, to provide a poly-rhythm for greater complexity (less monotonous ).

"The Grp Synthesizer A4 is an Italian analogue synthesizer originally released in 2012.

Combining classic subtractive synthesis with modern desires, it's got pretty tasty spec.

In this video I tried to make use of the A4's architecture, whilst keeping things musical. It's very easy with this much power at your fingertips to overcook it and just make either a sonic mess, or a sound that only works in isolation. Hopefully I've struck the balance.

Examples of things I did:
Dual sequence utilising the playback and step repeat modes. I sequenced some chords in one section with oscillator 1 + 2 (tuned a fifth apart) following sequencer A and oscillator 3 following sequencer B.

For the lead sound I also used the sequencer as a modulation source sent to phase synched oscillators and the filters that also had its tempo CV'd from an envelope so that it sped up and down rollercoaster style.

I ran my Juno through the A4 via the external signal in and envelope follower. This allowed me to control the A4 from the Juno, but have the dual A4 filters on it. I also tuned in two of the A4's oscillators to complimentary intervals and they were coming through with the Juno every time it gated the synth.

The main riff was a blend of three oscillators and the ring modulator with a combination of linear and exponential modulation and oscillator sync.

There were also various stereo bass sounds - subby and round, sharp and phat, and driven and heavy. The distortion comes from the synth itself.

I also made some floaty, trippy sounds with the A4 in the middle eight, as well as various FX.

Hopefully this all gives a glimpse into what it can do.

"A quick noodle on the GRP A4 Synthesizer… It is a wonderful instrument that can be used completely stand alone. The sound is definitely “modern” analog and quite precise.

But it can get real mean as it’s easy to overdrive the dual filters. If that’s not enough, there are also separate distortion circuits for each should you wish to engage them. 3 VCOs, S&H, 2 LFO's, Auto Pan, Sequencer, Ring Mod, Noise, 2 Filters, Midi, CV.. its pretty awesome.

No post processing.. recorded the stereo out directly into Ableton. The only addition is the Eventide H9 pedal providing some nice delay and the Octatrack playing a simple beat in the background.

I hope you enjoy watching it as much as I enjoyed playing it. :)"

Two of these SEM units make the sound engine of a TWO VOICE (TVS) and four of them obviously a FOUR VOICE -- PURE ANALOG is a project to find out and show the qualities of analog synthesizers and eventually also hybrids. And exciting Question is also how contemporary synths like this lush GRP A-2 or EREBUS NYX compare to vintage legends like MINIMOOG or ARP ODYSSEY or ROLAND JUPITER 4 etc. So this piece will be played and performed with different synths in the future track by track recorded in DAW without any equing or otherwise processed in DAW, no add modulation, reverb, saturatio or other FX. Only a mastering compressor, EQ and Limiter is used on the sum. So what you hear is completely un-FX-ed material -- almost impossible to find these days!!!"
