Exploring The Ciat-Lonbarde Benjolin
video upload by HAINBACH
"Peter Blasser of Ciat-Lonbarde adopted Rob Hordijk's Benjolin into his own wooden synth world. He made it into a surprising idea machine that brings out new patterns and riffs from tiny dial nudges by the player. I have had the pleasure of trying out many prototypes along the way, and here is a demo of the production unit I received as a thank you for my feedback. Thanks to Richard Scott (https://richardscott.bandcamp.com) for the insights.

Hainbach - A Voice Magnetic | The One Take Recording Sessions
video upload by HAINBACH
"This is an excerpt from my new Album 'A Voice Magnetic'. You can hear and see all the pieces I recorded as one-takes.
Voice Magnetic by Hainbach is the enigmatic Berlin based artist’s sonic diary of 2022. On his sixth release on Seil Records, He collages the sounds he made and the ones that surrounded him over the course of twelve months into a powerfully intimate ambient experience.
In his studio or on travels —Hainbach always is working on new material and allows the locations he records his tracks in to find their way into the music. Consequently, on many tracks you can can hear the outside bleeding in — seagulls and waves on 'Izmir', the voices of his children while recording the piano or the sirens of Neukölln’s police cars in background.
The connecting threads between these pieces are magnetic tape and the human voice — hiss and breath. The result are 15 immersive ambient pieces that make up Voice Magnetic.
Often short like the moments that spark them. Fading and intricate, honest and pure.
Voice Magnetic is released on April 25th, 2023 via Seil Records on Cassette Tape and Digital (Downloads are free/name-your-price for the first two weeks) via Bandcamp. Streaming platforms will follow on May 10th."

Beats Behind The Wall: Vermona DRM (1987)
video upload by HAINBACH
"When I came upon this rare analog drum machine made in the GDR in 1987, it seemed like such an odd instrument for the year it was released. As I could find no information on it, I travelled to where it was made, the 'Musikwinkel' in Vogtland. The story I found there ended up being fascinating."

US Highway 395: Owens Valley (Independence to Bishop)
video upload by CatSynth TV
"We ride north on US 395 as it traverses the arid Owens Valley on the eastern side of the Sierra Nevada; we start in the town of Independence and end in Bishop. In the community of Big Pine, the Californa Highway 168 joins with US 395 en route to Bishop.
The Owens Valley is among the deepest valleys, wedged between the highest peaks of the Sierra Nevada and the Inyo and White Mountains to the east. The rain shadow leaves most of the valley a dry, desert environment. The Owens River, an which runs through the valley, has been heavily tapped as a main water supply for Los Angeles, which makes the valley even drier. Nonetheless, it is quite beautiful, as is US 395.
Original music by Amanda Chaudhary (an updated version of the music from 'Highway 58: Part 3').

How Ancient Electronics Write Music For HAINBACH
video upload by HAINBACH
"I was commissioned to write a piece for solo sax and electronics, something I have never done before. I decided I would approach the composition in the same way that I improvise with other musicians. I would compose as if I was on stage with the performer, Dr. Hall. The 'live' setup I created for this ended up writing a good part of the music for me, in a human/machine feedback loop.

The Surprising Musicality of a Telephone Line Simulator
video upload by HAINBACH
You can find the post HAINBACH mentions with pics here.
"Of all the instruments in my studio filled with many obscure things, this is the one that draws most peoples attention: the vintage telephone line simulator by Axel Electronics. It looks rather disco for a piece of test equipment, with its Battlestar Galactica golden color. In this video I put it through its many surprising musical applications.

HAINBACH Built An Early Electronic Music Studio In His Basement
video upload by HAINBACH
"Inspired by German experimental music studios like the WDR and SWR, I build Studio B (B for basement). It is a creative playground for my "Schlaufenzeit" setup, and I am working on a live show and album there. In this video I go into details on the gear and thought process behind its, how I put everything together and the big challenge using the cellar poses. I hope this video inspires in your own music studio setup, be it big or small, or 100% DAW.

Another Michael's One Minute Synthesis Minute
video upload by HAINBACH
"I have mostly disregarded Dynacord tape echoes - the are pretty common and cheap in Germany, and a Roland Space Echo was more desireable. Turns out, I was wrong to do so. As I played the Echocord Super 76 on a guest musician gig I immediately realized what it can do, be played like an instrument.

Wires Walkthrough
video upload by boxoftextures
"Just got Wires, a new effect plug-in from AudioThing/Hainbach. Don't think I've done an entire video about an effect before, although now that I think of it I might have made some looper and shimmer videos. But regardless, this was great fun, instantly felt I was in some '70s Le Carre spy movie! Did this on an iPad but there's also a computer version as well (Mac/Windows/Linux) which I also have.
Basically you're running your sound through a Soviet wire recorder, and there's lots of controls to mangle things in subtle or not-so-subtle ways. Tons of fun! I used a sequencer in this demo as that was my immediately imagined use case but now I'm thinking about how it could be useful for vocals, say.
I called this video a walkthrough, which I haven't really done before. It's not exactly a demo, but it's also not a complete user guide or review either. I do demonstrate most of the controls though so you should be able to get a good idea of what's possible.
Recommended.

HAINBACH / TODD BARTON Split Vinyl LP
video upload by Todd Barton
"Ultraviolet Light is proud to announce a split vinyl LP featuring three new tracks of exploratory music apiece by innovative electronic musicians Todd Barton and Hainbach.
Four decades into making music in conversation with modern classical, jazz, poetry, ancient music, new age, and the avant-garde, Todd Barton continues to craft sounds that know no boundaries. Berlin-based Hainbach’s side conjures a pulsing and immersive electronic landscape very much in conversation with Barton’s spacious and unfettered compositions. Taken as a whole, the album relocates us into a cerebral yet viscerally affecting cinema of orchestrated chaos and near-future noise.
This release continues Ultraviolet Light’s unique relationship with both artists. Todd Barton curated the artists featured on the label’s sold-old Buchla Now cassette; Barton and Hainbach’s first pairing was on a 2019 Ultraviolet Light split cassette.
The Hainbach and Todd Barton split vinyl LP will be limited to 300 copies.
Video created by Pam Anderson whose work can be explored here: instagram.com/windcruel."

Why Does This Simple Italian Vintage Synth Sound So Good?
video upload by HAINBACH
"I dithered a lot before buying the Elka Solist 505: I had no idea if it would sound any good. It looked odd and rather cool because it has accordion-style buttons instead of a piano keyboard, which made it interesting enough for me to try. When it arrived in my studio, I was in for a surprise."
