KORG OPsix - "Second" Impressions 😂

Noir Et Blanc Vie

*Subjective opinions within, those who do not understand subjective opinion may be excused lol*
*ALL music in this video is 100% Korg OPsix*

"Just running through some presets and chit-chatting, some really great sounding stuff here, but as usual what are my personal thoughts on it....FIRST this isn't me being negative at all, I'm just stating my initial thoughts. Here's the thing, I love the Volca FM, it's just the right amount of FM for me personally. So $800 isn't too much for someone who has been waiting for something just like this, but for me it's too steep. That said, If Korg made the exact same synth BUT in the Granular Synth variety they couldn't take my $800 fast enough. So it's all about what you want and are looking for."

ONE MINUTE SYNTH REVIEW!!! Ep. 20 Novation Mininova (Halloween Special)

Noir Et Blanc Vie

"*Subjective opinions within, those who do not understand subjective opinion may be excused lol*
*ALL music in this video is 100% Novation Mininova*

DON'T WORRY I'LL NEVER DO AN EPISODE IN BLACK AND WHITE AGAIN lol

Thank you to Jefferson Black, an amazing actor, impressionist and a nice guy!

TLDR: Back in 2010's I remember always looking at the Mininova, but for some reason I was just not intrigued enough to pick one up. I disliked the mini-keys, the Program Grid, everything made me see this as just another Microkorg wannabe...well, it's not, it's a whole lot more. If the polyphony isn't enough for you the Mininova is like a blank canvas type synth, it's a little plastic sounding, but not too plastic, it's menu system isn't terrible, it's a great value, but is it for me..........well, no, duh. I don't need another synth to save my life, but IF this were 2012 again I'd say yes to the Mininova.

Moog Re-Introduces the Werkstatt-01 & CV Expander for $199

Moog Music Inc

"In this exploration of sound design and composition using the Werkstatt-01 analog synthesizer, Asheville-based electronic music producer and Moog Product Specialist Max Ravitz combines eight Werkstatt-01 synthesizers in a dynamic performance in the Moog Sound Lab.

Each of the eight Werkstatt-01 instruments provides a different element in the song ranging from booming kick drums to metallic hi-hats, and deep basses to wavering leads—many of which are based on the sounds found in the Werkstatt-01 Exploration Patchbook, which contains a variety of inspiring patches also designed by Ravitz. All eight Werkstatt-01 synthesizers in this performance are sequenced by the Winter Modular Eloquencer, with a touch of delay and reverb provided by the OTO Machines BIM and BAM to add dimension to the mix."

via Moog Music:

"Re-Introducing Werkstatt-01

Werkstatt-01 is a patchable and compact analog synthesizer. A gateway to the expansive world of analog synthesis, the instrument is a must-have for anyone interested in exploring classic Moog sound and circuitry through the unique, hands-on experience of a DIY synthesizer project. This affordable, easy-to-assemble kit requires no prior electronics experience and is a perfect afternoon (or Christmas morning) project.

The straightforward simplicity of Werkstatt-01’s design makes it an ideal jumping-off point to discover a limitless new world of analog sound design, and the included 3.5mm CV Expander makes it a no-brainer for everyone wishing to integrate the iconic Moog sound into their music. The 9" by 6" musical machine may be small, but the raw power and spectrum of the sound it produces is immense.

From Musical Exploration to Experimental Education

First introduced at Moogfest 2014 as part of the event’s Engineering Workshop, the Werkstatt-01 analog synthesizer has been admired as an essential introductory synth, a powerful standalone instrument, and an enhancement to any integrated electronic music ecosystem. Based on classic Moog circuitry, Werkstatt-01 was created to provide a hands-on understanding of how analog synthesizers work and encourage experimentation with sound through patching and interconnectivity.

The research and design that went into Werkstatt-01’s circuits, and the demand for more semi-modular exploratory analog instruments after its initial release, ultimately led to the development of some of today’s most expressive sound design machines: Mother-32, DFAM, Grandmother, Matriarch, and Subharmonicon.

More than a musical instrument, Werkstatt-01 has also served as an interactive educational tool in STEM curricula. The compact, versatile synthesizer has been the heart of the Georgia Tech Hackathon, a weekend-long competition that takes place each February at the Atlanta university’s Center for Music Technology, for six years and counting. The 2021 Georgia Tech Hackathon will be held virtually; see details here.

The easily mod-able analog synth kit has also proven to be a perfect learning ground for DIY modifications and the science of sound. This page of our website features a series of instructional videos to walk you through how to expand your instrument through breadboarding and arduino integration.

Classic Moog Sound & Circuitry

Werkstatt-01’s 100% analog circuits deliver the classic soul and futuristic sound Moog synthesizers are known for. Featuring a full-range analog oscillator with selectable waveforms for powerful sound and the legendary Moog Ladder Filter for precision harmonic sculpting, this instrument covers a vast expanse of sonic territory. Adding movement and modulation is as simple as engaging Werkstatt-01’s analog LFO circuit to simulate the motion of gently breathing waves, or crank up the LFO speed and summon cosmic laser beams. A two-stage analog envelope generator with sustain gives you control to shape dynamics, dialing in everything from lush electronic string swells to punchy basslines and organic percussion hits—and everything in between.

The included CV Expander allows you to enter the endless realms of modular synthesis, where new connections can be made and original sounds are unlocked. Patching inputs and outputs together from the 12 jacks of the 3.5mm patch bay will reconfigure Werkstatt-01’s circuits to create new signal paths and empower new sonic explorations. The included CV Expander also makes it easy to connect Werkstatt-01 to other Moog semi-modular synthesizers, Eurorack systems, or drum machines, enhancing any configuration with powerful analog sound."

STILL WORTH IT? Sequential Prophet 6 - 5 Years Later

Noir Et Blanc Vie

"*Subjective opinions within, those who do not understand Subjective Opinions may be excused lol*
*Opening music is snippet from my recent release on the YouTube Audio Library*

*When I said 99.9% music is Prophet 6, it's because the small guitar lick in the opening is a guitar, so I wanted to point that out. ALL OTHER MUSIC IS 100% Prophet 6*

ONCE AGAIN...First off this is NOT a review, this is a somewhat chronicle of my time owning the Prophet 6 for 5 years. Collections companies came for my buns after not paying that GC Credit Card bill, man oh man. I love the Prophet 6, it's the right fit for me and what I wanted from an instrument. I want to get away from screens as much as I can, but menu diving isn't really my thing. The Prophet 6 was and is the single most expensive synthesizer I've ever purchased and I don't regret one harassing phone call LOL

When I bought the Prophet 6 I didn't even know what synth youtubing was....Let's just say, if your goal is to be a synth youtuber don't do what I do, just let companies send you stuff. lol

**Fake succulent thumbnail for the trolls pleasure lol**"

SYNTH VS SYNTH -- Modal Skulpt or Modal Craft 2.0?

Noir Et Blanc Vie

"First off this is NOT a review, this is a chronicle of my time owning both. I've owned the Skulpt and Craft 2.0 for about a year. Honestly I don't think I could have made this review without having to go through my normal routine with them. So yeah, it took like a year, which did I pick up when I was going to the beach, which one did I enjoy regardless of the shortcoming. Please see the section "from Noir the editor" about some things you'll need to use these with an iPad.

I want to make this clear, it takes time to bring a genuine personal experience and put it into words. So yeah, thank you for your patience."

SYNTH VS SYNTH -- Moog SUB 37 or Moog Grandmother?

Noir Et Blanc Vie

"First off this is NOT a review, this is a somewhat chronicle of my time owning both.
So here we go (Mario 64 voice) it takes TIME to AKCHEWELY learn and give a real take on a piece. So a year later here it is, and keep in mind, I'm a human, I can't really give an "objective" opinion, if you want that read both user manuals and tell yourself which is better that's the only way objective opinions on creative pieces work LOL.

That said, I hope my take as a person who has had tons of experience with the Little Phatty, Slim Phatty, Minitaur, Mother-32 brings some clarity."

Solar Powered Synths - THEY'RE HOT AF!!! (literally)

Noir Et Blanc Vie

"I'd like to say that both the Zoia and Subharmonicon performed great in 104 degree weather, I was surprised myself. Obviously I'd have the solar panel in the sun and I'd be in the shade if I were acually going to do this, but I needed even lighting.

I'm not an expert on solar, or renewable energy, BUT, what I wanted to do was take a road-trip, enjoy synths I wouldn't normally bring and take you with me for the journey. Most of the time you wouldn't consider synths that use AC/DC adapters as part of your portable outdoor rig, but I thought why not.

~Any incorrect terminology I use was because it was 104 degrees and I was having a heat stroke. Yeah, they'll believe that lol.~

(Within are subjective opinions, those who don't understand subjective opinion may be excused.) lol"

Play CHORDS with the Moog Subharmonicon - A HOW TO lol

Noir Et Blanc Vie

"I like the Subharmonicon to make many notes, not just one. Here's how I do it! I honestly don't think I'm great at showing musicians how to make music, but people kept asking, so Noir's here's with a how to, it may help wrap your head around harmony on this lovely instrument. If it helps great, if not, meh haha."

"Today, we're excited to announce that the newest addition to our family of semi-modular synthesizers, Subharmonicon, is now available worldwide.

Subharmonicon is an intensely creative analog synthesizer capable of complex sounds and patterns, yet is incredibly simple to use. With two VCOs, four Subharmonic Oscillators, two 4-Step Sequencers, and four Rhythm Generators, this new musical machine is designed for the exploration of sequences that unfold and evolve over time, spiraling through six-tone subharmonic chords and organic polyrhythms.

Although no patching is required to start creating, Subharmonicon can be patched into itself, expanding its onboard capabilities, or interfaced with Mother-32, DFAM, and other external Eurorack-compatible gear for endless possibilities."

"Subharmonicon is a semi-modular polyrhythmic analog synthesizer that employs a 6-tone sound engine and multi-layered clock generator to explore the world of subharmonics, polyrhythms, and the unique relationships they create.

Subharmonicon’s characteristic sound starts with two analog VCOs and four Subharmonic Oscillators for a total of six powerful sound sources. Each subharmonic tone is mathematically derived from one of the two main VCOs, giving the resulting chord shapes a beautifully coherent quality. Onboard quantization lets you dial in perfect intervals every time with selections for multiple tuning systems. Choose from contemporary Equal Temperament settings, the heavenly intervals of Just Intonation, or the unlimited freedom of no quantization at all.
Animating Subharmonicon’s distinctive chord shapes is done through a polyrhythmic pair of 4-Step Sequencers. Each sequencer is clocked by any or all of four Rhythm Generators that output mathematical divisions of the master tempo. Layer multiple Rhythm Generators on top of each other to create complex polyrhythms and discover inspiring new patterns and styles. Delve into Subharmonicon’s dual Envelope Generators, Moog Ladder Filter, and analog VCA to call up dynamic articulations ranging from lush pads and blurred edges to percussive plosives and ritualistic rhythms.

Although no patching is required to start creating, exploring Subharmonicon’s modular patchbay unlocks worlds of possibilities as you make novel connections and plug into new ideas. The 32-point 3.5mm patchbay can be patched into itself, expanding Subharmonicon’s onboard capabilities, or interfaced with Mother-32, DFAM, and other external Eurorack-compatible gear (MIDI Type A adapter included for DIN to 3.5mm MIDI input). Use as a standalone synth with included +12V DC power supply or simply remove the front panel to install into any Eurorack system.
The Moog Subharmonicon is a versatile analog labyrinth of subharmonically derived synthesis and polyrhythmic sound, equally suited for losing oneself and simultaneously finding oneself."

ONE MINUTE SYNTH REVIEW!!! Ep. 19 Arturia Microfreak (Halloween Special)

Published on Nov 5, 2019 Noir Et Blanc Vie

**ALL MUSIC IN THIS REVIEW WAS CREATED ON THE ARTURIA MICROFREAK*

Hey guys and gals, so ONCE AGAIN better late than never am I right? LOL. I said last year that UNO would be the last episode of OMSR...but, I guess not. Sooooo...Love you all.

NOW...to my thoughts. You're probably going to see the score and wonder, "WHY NOIR, WHY?" Please understand that I review the synth I buy, and last year the same thing happened...I got a copy that kinda was not perfect, but quality control is part of the consumer experience...AS I SAID IN MY SUBJECTIVE OPINION AS A PLAYER. The Microfreak isn't exactly what I wanted for my use case, and this will probably only upset fanboys and fangirls, but I'm not here to read a user manual objectively. You can do that on your own time...How did the Microfreak make me feel. Does the Microfreak inspire, AB-SO-LUT-LY. Is it for me, like 100% me...I guess you'll see in the video. Regardless, I'm not wrong as each person's experience is unique, and this was mine, if you think differently about subjective opinions, well k LOL.

Noir Et Blanc Vie: Sorry Arturia Micro Freak - A NON-Review lol

Published on Feb 19, 2019 Noir Et Blanc Vie

"*Keep in mind what the word 'Subjection Opinion' means while watching this video, this will help triggered folk cope with what I'm about to say haha*

Since you all know companies don't run this channel, I do, which is why I say what I like. I know this video will be unpopular to the fanboys, but I could care less as I was actually looking forward to the MicroFreak, unfortunately I'm a little disappointed synths seem to be moving away from players who need the tactile traditional keybed for performances. Anyways, here are my thoughts, those who can't understand the meaning of the word subjective will dislike this video and comment I'm dumb, but that's what's fun about all this hahaahah"

Filter Guessing Game - Moog Grandmother vs Sub 37

Published on Feb 12, 2019 Noir Et Blanc Vie

"Soooooo, I thought, why not compare the filters in the Sub37 and the Moog Grandmother. Their design is a bit different. This test is FAR from perfect because, uhhh I’d never watch a video of just someone not talking just comparing filters, so why not try and guess in a game, could be fun...see how much the filters sound the same with raw oscillators. Whatever ;)

P.S. I know the Grandmother can be “duophonic” but that requires another external CV control and I didn’t want to include features outside of what the synth can natively accomplish. So whoever states that in the comments section of this video hoover off hahah"
