"Incus Iteritas Alia is available now: https://bit.ly/4b0koJW

Incus Iteritas Alia smashes big and bold sounds into your patches. Incus started as a percussion voice, and was smelted into something even wilder: create kicks for any genre, snares, and metallic hits, or go melodic and create FM plucks, analog-style basslines, and so much more. Incus uses a combination of waveshaping, saturation, wavefolding, FM, and additive synthesis, plus a slew of internal modulation, all behind easy-to-use parameters perfect for jamming.

Press release follows:

"Los Angeles, CA — Modular synthesizer company Noise Engineering, known for their innovative Eurorack modules, has announced three additions to their Alia oscillator platform: Ataraxic Iteritas Alia, Cursus Iteritas Alia, and Incus Iteritas Alia.

In 2023, Noise Engineering released the 10HP Alia platform, marking the return of their Iteritas oscillators. Alia launched with the famed Basimilus Iteritas firmware, along with Manis Iteritas and the new Debel Iteritas, but the team promised firmwares in the near future.

Now, Noise Engineering has delivered, doubling the number of firmwares available for Alia. Cursus Iteritas Alia and Ataraxic Iteritas Alia are revamped versions of the originals, promising to sound nearly identical to the originals with improved encoder tuning, a suboscillator output, and a performable Hold button. Incus Iteritas Alia is an all-new voice based around wavemorphing additive FM, designed for percussive and melodic sound design.

Since Alia is an oscillator platform, owners of existing Alias can try out all three of the new firmwares on their modules. Firmware is 100% free and swappable at any time from the Noise Engineering Customer Portal. With six firmwares now available for the platform, the Alia is an excellent choice for those who want an incredibly diverse yet compact sound source in their system. Swappable overlays for all firmwares are also available from the Noise Engineering webshop and retailers around the world.

The new Incus Iteritas Alia is an exciting addition to the lineup, utilizing Noise Engineering’s favorite synthesis tricks and techniques to create a new voice boasting a massive range of timbres. Sounds are created with a combination of additive, wavemorphing, and FM synthesis, with three different algorithms all controlled by an internal dynamics envelope. Users familiar with the Basimilus will find that Incus has a similar workflow, and while it can synthesize the best parts of a drum kit, it’s also well-suited to bass and melodic duties.

As usual for their platforms, all of the new firmwares are available as paneled modules, so customers can choose the panel they prefer. Ataraxic Iteritas Alia, Cursus Iteritas Alia, and Incus Iteritas Alia are available now at https://noiseengineering.us and at retailers globally.

Availability and pricing:
Ataraxic Iteritas Alia, Cursus Iteritas Alia, and Incus Iteritas Alia: In stock in black and silver.
Shipping from Noise Engineering and retailers starting January 18th, 2024; MSRP US$385" [check with the dealers on the right for availability]

Noise Engineering Introduces Jam Jam & Quantus Trajecta Eurorack Modules

video upload by Noise Engineering

Jam Jam - 4-channel multimode trigger and gate processor from Noise Engineering

"Preorders are open now for the Jam Jam. This module starts shipping on Thursday, January 26: https://bit.ly/403qB2D

Jam Jam is a versatile and fun trigger-and-gate processor with four individually controlled and CV-able outputs. The three modes pack incredible functionality into the tiny 6hp package.

Random mode turns the outputs into four individually adjustable probability processors, great for adding variety to a patch. In Clock Phase mode, the module tracks and phase adjusts incoming clocks based on clock period. Use this to adjust sequencer timing or to create sequences that drift out of sync and then back in with CV. Use Gate Delay mode as a simple trigger delay for latency compensation or for creative patching: dial in the timing of events in your patch from sub-millisecond adjustments to huge delays of over 15 seconds.

Jam Jam is a musical and fun utility sure to find a use in every patch"

Quantus Trajecta - 4-channel poly envelope generator in 10HP from Noise Engineering

Noise Engineering releases Terci Ruina, Sinc Bucina, and Cursus Iteritas Percido

You can find a NAMM demo here. The press release follows:

April 18th, 2018, LOS ANGELES, CA - After months of planning, design, and development, Noise Engineering is excited to release three new Eurorack modules: Terci Ruina, a triple distortion; Sinc Bucina, a multimode lowpass gate; and Cursus Iteritas Percido, a performance oriented all-in-one synth voice.

Terci Ruina

Terci Ruina is the first module in our Ruina s eries of distortion modules. The top section, FB, is a two-stage asymmetric-diode feedback topology using high-beta bipolar transistors for gain, creating a nonlinear waveshaper that’s sensitive to waveform symmetry. The middle section, FF, is an asymmetric feed-forward diode clipper using op-amps for gain. This diode clip has just enough asymmetry to make it fun. The last section, FZ, is a high-gain bipolar fuzz. The knob blends between differently phased sections which gives the knob a low-pass to high-pass frequency response as it is turned.

While each all-analog circuit has its own input and output, they were designed to work together and are normalled to run in series for total sonic insanity. This isn’t a distortion for the faint of heart, and it’s all packaged in a small 4 hp package!

Price: $135.00

Availability: Available from retailers worldwide and the Noise Engineering webshop April 18, 2019

Terci Ruina summary and features:
● Three independent analog distortion circuits
● Internal normalization for even crazier processing
● 4 hp size means that TR is sure to find a home in even the smallest system
● Available with silver or black aluminum panel

Sinc Bucina

Sinc Bucina, sequel to one of our oldest modules, is a versatile analog low-pass gate, envelope generator, and slew.

The Ping input offers standard low-pass gate behavior, but with some extra features: first, it’s velocity dependent, so different voltage triggers give different dynamic responses. The Gate in sends a signal to the slew: patch in a gate for an ASR envelope, or send it a stepped sequence and adjust the Attack and Release time for expressive action. Choose VCA or driven filter modes for aggressive, expressive, and versatile sound.

Price: $155.00

Availability: Available from retailers worldwide and the Noise Engineering webshop April 18, 2019

Sinc Bucina summary and features:
● Three filtering modes: 12db, resonant 6db, and plain VCA
● Ping and Gate ins can be used separately or together
● Environmentally friendly vactrol-free design
● Huge range of decay times: 200 ms – 7 s
● Envelope output easily ties SB to other components
● 4 hp
● Available with silver or black aluminum panel

Cursus Iteritas Percido

Cursus Iteritas Percido takes the core synthesis of our most melodic oscillator, the Cursus Iteritas and adds an envelope generator to make it a complete voice. Three synthesis algorithms provide an abundance of sound generation possibilities. Three modes allow full control of the envelope: trigger it, loop it, or use free running mode to reset without affecting volume. Route the envelope to the pitch and tonal parameters via attenuverting sends. Sends then go through the Master Blaster, a master attenuverter designed with performance in mind. CIP is our largest module ever, weighing in at 24 hp, but for good reason: CIP can really do anything. Huge basslines, gentle melodies, percussion, noise, and more are all to be had from this beast of a voice module.

Price: $595

Availability: Available from retailers worldwide and the Noise Engineering webshop April 18, 2019

Cursus Iteritas Percido summary and features:
● Full voice: patch up your sequencer and you’re ready to go
● Three envelope modes
● Three synthesis algorithms for sonic diversity
● Unique Master Blaster macro offers expressive and performable control
● Envelope and Master Blaster outputs tie CIP to the rest of your patch
● 18 CV inputs
● 24 hp
● Available with silver or black aluminum panel

Terci Ruina combines three classic distortions in 4 hp. Distortions are reinterpreted in classic NE style and routed through each other for complete sonic annihilation of any sound. Patch in and out anwyere in the signal chain to pick the best sound for your purpose (because modular). Looking for a pretty distortion? This is probably not your module. Unapologetically gross and dirty.

Sinc Bucina is the sequel to one of our first modules, Sinclastic Empulatrix, replacing the clamping VCA with a resonant lowpass VCF and VCA combo. The velocity-dependent Ping input offers classic release-only LPG behavior, while the Gate in offers much more complex slewing, useful for simple ASR envelopes to dynamic modulation. The envelope out allows the internal envelope to be routed out into a patch for even more versatility and modulation fun.

Getting Nasty with Noise Engineering, Digitakt, and Hermod

video by Red Means Recording

"Let's use the Elektron Digitakt to sequence and modulate some Noise Engineering modules!

* Digitakt is playing back drums and samples on tracks 1-8
* Digitakt tracks 15 and 16 are set to send MIDI out on channels 15 and 16 to the Squarp Hermod
* The Hermod translates this data to CV and passes pitch and gate to the Noise Engineering Cursus and Manis Iteritas
* The Manis is passing through the Tip-Top z5000 fx unit for chorus, and the Cursus is going into the WMDSSF ADSRVCA for volume shaping
* Channels 9-14 on the Digitakt pass no note data. They have MIDI CC1 mapped to a knob, which the Hermod accepts, records, and passes through as modulation CV
* You can use the Digitakt LFOs to modulate CC1, or record this into the Hermod as a modulation lane, which will now be part of the sequence
* This is a very flexible and fun way to play with modular!

Cursus Iteritas Alia wavetable oscillator from Noise Engineering

video upload by Noise Engineering

"Cursus Iteritas Alia is our take on a spectral/wavetable oscillator. Cursus Iteritas has long been regarded as the gentlest, most melodic Iteritas oscillator, but its Fold and Edge parameters can bring it the territory of aggressive and in-your-face sounds, too.

Cursus is available now: https://bit.ly/3HmzZG8

0:00 Overview
1:09 Panel and Controls
4:03 Patch: Metallic Lullaby
4:31 Patch: Sweet & Sour
4:56 Patch: 'Til Death
5:23 Patch: Foiled Again
5:48 Patch: Resonant March
6:16 Alia platform

Cursus Iteritas is a freerunning oscillator. Pair it with a VCA and a slow envelope for the perfect lead line, and try patching its pitch and modulation inputs with something like a ribbon controller or gesture module for expressive control.

The Daub/Four/Walsh switch selects the synthesis algorithm used to generate sounds. Center, Structure, Width, and Tilt control the harmonic structure of the oscillator, with a variety of interdependencies between controls. Edge and Fold add distortion and grit to the sound if things are a bit too gentle. We recommend starting out with Edge and Fold at minimum and the rest of the controls centered, then experimenting with the various controls.

Alia is a 10HP oscillator platform much like the Versio and Legio platforms. With Alia, we are pleased to bring back Cursus and Ataraxic Iteritas, as well as Manis and Basimilus. We've also released new voices on Alia: Debel and Incus.

Alia's interface is similar to the Iteritas modules but now includes an encoder for easier tuning, a dedicated Sub Out jack, a Hold button for freezing CV modulation, and a self-calibrating pitch input that expects -2V to +5V. Cursus has been designed to sound as close to the old versions as possible.

Like with our other platforms, if you own any Alia module, you can swap to any other Alia firmware for free by going to the Noise Engineering Customer Portal and connecting with the included USB cable."

Noise Engineering NAMM 2018 Announcements - New Eurorack & 5U

Coming Soon: Spring 2018 releases Published on Jan 22, 2018 Noise Engineering

Coming soon: Mimetic Digitalis Published on Jan 22, 2018
"NAMM 2018 teaser for the upcoming Mimetic Digitalis. MD is a CV step sequencer that allows a shit ton of control."

Additional details via Noise Engineering:

"The NAMM Show (the National Association of Music Merchants) is upon us once again. If you have no idea what this is, it's an annual trade show extravaganza held each January in Anaheim. Last year, over 100,000 people passed through the Anaheim Convention Center according to their tally. That's to say: it's big.

In preparation for NAMM this year, Stephen and I are giving you, our illustrious blog readers, the first glimpse at our NAMM roll-outs this year. This year, we've got a larger booth, and we'll have some great people helping out showing off our gear. Stop by and say hello to us and our pals! We're in booth 10702 in the A wing. You'll know you're close when you find modular synthesizer mayhem.

We're focusing on the items we plan to push in the first quarter of 2018 (but we'll have lots of the older stuff on hand if you're still looking to try it out!). This quarter's crop includes a few small, focused, utility modules:

Bin Seq: a 4 HP switchable gate sequencer.

Muta Jovis: 4 HP switchable quad mute. Works well with Noise Eng rhythm generators such as Numeric Repetitor and Zularic Repetitor.

Soleo Vero: that 4 HP tuner we've been talking about for a while? It's coming! A patch-through stroboscope tuner. Tune up to three oscillators without having to patch/unpatch. The stroboscope makes it possible to tune without sound on!

Of course we have a couple of other goodies:

Clep Diaz: 4 HP Complex/multimode CV generator. Use Clep Diaz to generate stepped, random, or LFO CVs where you have control over directionality of the CV (up, up/down, or down) and over the nature of the CV signal:

In Step & Rand mode, choose the number of steps in the cycle

In LFO mode, control the amplitude of the LFO

Mimetic Digitalis: 10 HP 16-step two-dimensional CV sequencer optimized for live use. At its simplest, MD is a simple two-dimensional 16-step sequencer with 4 CV outs and a trigger out. Pause the clock to individually program each step...or...
use the encoder to live edit patterns
zero any step or combination of patterns with the Zero button
create a randomized, rhythmic CV with the Shred button
Edit to your heart's content, and return to your initial pattern (like a chorus!) with the touch of a button.
And it wouldn't be a Noise Eng product if we didn't give you lots of CV control!

But that's not all. At NAMM, we're also showing our foray into the 5U format. We'll have Basimilus Iteritas Magnus on hand, but we are pleased to announced that we will be releasing three of our oscillators: Basimilus Iteritas Magnus, Cursus Iteritas Magnus, and Manis Iteritas Magnus in 5U. Look for those for simultaneous release in the next few months. For those of you paying attention, a portion of the proceeds from the Manis Iteritas Magnus, like the Eurorack version Manis Iteritas, will be donated to Save Pangolins.org. Buy a module, save an endangered species!

And finally, we are announcing the release of ten limited-edition, unique 60-hp cases. Each case is handmade of aluminum and will come with a power supply and a different, bespoke set of Noise Engineering modules. Available only at www.noiseengineering.us, cases will be released over the next few months. Watch our social media and mailing list for details.

We're looking forward to seeing a lot of users and retailers at NAMM. If you're at the show, please stop by and say hello! We're at booth 10702.

Two Noise Engineering Cursus Iteritas Percidos With A Sinc Bucina & Terci Ruina

Published on Apr 19, 2019 Perfect Circuit

"The Cursus Iteritas Percido is a Cursus Iteritas oscillator with a built in envelope that can modulate the oscillator and a Master Blaster knob that sends the envelope to every parameter at once, resulting in tons of modulation for interesting percussion and synth sounds. The Cursus Iteritas Percido oscillator core generates its own wavetables in real time as well as aliasing which is harmonically related to the pitch of the oscillator. The envelope is an attack/decay envelope with controls for envelope length, shape and slope, this allows you to adjust the envelope without changing its timing, or change its timing without changing its shape.

We also used the Sinc Bucina which is a low-pass gate with built in envelope and adjustable filter depth in only 4hp. Of course we needed some distortion which is provided by the Terci Ruina that is actually three distortions in one!"

Published on Mar 27, 2017 Perfect Circuit Audio

"Exploring the sound palette of Noise Engineering’s new Cursus Iteritas oscillator by controlling all of its parameters with the Malekko Voltage Block.

Cursus Iteritas is an oscillator that works from a dynamically generated wavetable. It gives the user spectral-like controls over three different modes based on different conceptualizations of frequency: Fourier, which uses sine waves; Daubechies, using wavelets, and Walsh mode, using the Walsh transform. Cursus Iteritas parametrizes a wide variety of sounds, but because the sounds are all based off of orthogonal functions, it has a musical tone structure and can produce an extremely wide variety of harmonic sounds.
