"My Planet, Arrakis, Is So Beautiful When The Sun Is Low" (EMS Synthi A, Cocoquantus 2, Osmose)

video upload by PanicGirlVids

"'My planet, Arrakis, is so beautiful when the sun is low.
Rolling over the sands, you can see spice in the air.'

This is a Dune inspired track that I made with my EMS Synthi A, Ciat-Lonbarde Cocoquantus 2, Expressive E Osmose, Emergence Audio Cello & Viola Textures & Felt Instruments.

Even though I haven’t seen the new Dune movie yet I keep on reading, watching and listening to every little bit I can get my hands on. Who else is excited to see the new DUNE movie? πŸ₯°

Thanks so much for watching!"

Ambient Jam with the ARP2600

video upload by PanicGirlVids

"When I last got my ARP2600 restored from a professional technician, one sentence from our conversation really stuck in my head. "If you want your synthesizer to last as long as possible, you need to play it regularly". It sounds easier as it actually is, as life just gets in the way from time to time. But with such an extraordinary vintage synthesizer in my studio I try to power it on and play it at least once a week, as this beauty needs to be kept alive as long as possible."

Will We Set the Atmosphere On Fire? (Oppenheimer Inspired Jam)

video upload by PanicGirlVids

"In this jam I used the EMS Synthi A to play a pulsating sequence, which I altered in pitch with the joystick from time to time. The eerie pad sound you're hearing is also coming from the Synthi A, I simply took the stereo phones output and patched it into the Starlab from Strymon for this purpose. Two other sounds are coming from the Harmonic Oscillator from Verbos, which I processed with the Mimeophon for some reversed delay sounds and also with the Milky Way, which gives the melody some shimmery reverb tails later on in the jam. All other sounds are coming from my dear friend Anatol, with whom I also play as Lucid Grain.

Have you seen Oppenheimer yet? What do you think of the film - and the score?

Thanks for watching and see you soon!"

Rich Textures through Wave Interferences (Moog Mother-32 Into Starlab)

video upload by PanicGirlVids

"Searching for interesting textures, movements, as well as small irritations in sound is something I spent very much time with.

One thing I love to do is using two (or more) oscillators, and shifting one of them slightly in pitch to get a richer sound through the interferences between the waves.

Here I tried a slightly different approach. I used the Triangle Out of the LFO and patched it into the External Audio Input, hence overriding the normalization of the White Noise to the clockwise position of the Mixer knob in the upper row of the Mother-32. This way you can have two notes playing at the same time, even though the LFO stays at the same pitch.

Additionally I patched the Saw Oscillator Output into the Filter Cutoff, so every time I turn the Cutoff knob to the left you can hear those beautiful interferences coming in and out. And it also sounds different with every note being played.

From my Eurorack case I only used the Starlab module from Strymon for a lush and cinematic reverb.

What are your favourite sounds, that you can't get enough of?

Thanks so much for watching!"

Have you ever tried Playtron?

video upload by PanicGirlVids

"@Playtronica was kind enough to send me this futuristic looking device, so I could try it out and make music with it πŸ™Œ It is basically a MIDI Controller, but the fun part is that you can connect it to anything that conducts electricity. And not only that, with their conductive fabric tape you can connect it to literally anything you set your mind to! So I connected it to my beloved props that I use for my videos, this way I could finally use them to actually make music πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚

Did you ever try it? And if so, what did you connect it to?

In The Desert Of Arrakis - Dune inspired Jam with Cocoquantus2 & Mother-32

video upload by PanicGirlVids

"I recently watched Dune by Denis Villeneuve - and despite being very sceptical - I loved every minute of it. During the scenes in the desert of Arrakis my mind kept wandering to the Cocoquantus2 by Ciat-Lonbarde and how perfect it would be to make sand and desert-like sounds with it. Paired with the Mother-32 I was instantly hooked by the hypnotizing atmosphere created by those two instruments. During the jam I imagined to be in the desert of Arrakis, barely seeing anything with all the sand in front of my eyes and feeling a giant sandworm approach from afar.

First I recorded some noise from Mother-32 into the left sampler of the Cocoquantus, and then I recorded a low bass tone into the right sampler. After that I started jamming with this setup. It sounds pretty different from what I usually compose these days, so I’m looking forward to hear what you think of it.

All sounds come from the Ciat-Lonbarde Cocoquantus2 and Moog Mother-32, with some additional Valhalla Reverb and FabFilter Limiter added in Ableton."

PanicGirl Presets For The New WARP Module From Neuzeit Instruments πŸͺ

video upload by PanicGirlVids

"Thomas from @neuzeitrecordings was kind enough to make some lovely sound demos of the presets that I made for his wonderful new WARP Eurorack module.

The WARP module has a hybrid engine that combines additive and wavetable synthesis, with four voices and two oscillators each. And it has a lot of sound design options to choose from, it's quite a rabbit hole once you start exploring the modulation options.

Let me know what you think of it in the comments below!"

Patching the Stereo Prismatic Oscillator XPO

video upload by PanicGirlVids

"I recently had the chance to try out the new XPO Stereo Prismatic Oscillator by Make Noise and I was playing with the sound in the stereo field a lot. I also used two envelope generators for both outputs that I used from the XPO to bring even more movement into this pretty simple patch. And finally I couldn't resist to bring some nice crunch into it by incorporating the Tyme Sefari 16-bit Looper & Sampler by The Harvestman.

What interesting patches did you come up with the XPO so far?
Let me know in the comments :)

Thanks so much for watching!"

Some OP1 + Microcosm + Cycles magic 🧘🏻🌸

video upload by PanicGirlVids

"Some magic for you with the OP1 + Microcosm + Cycles 🧘🏻🌸
There are some tools, where you really need to know how to handle them and what sound you want to get out of them in the first place and some tools, which you can just turn on and let the magic happen. Which ones do you prefer more while composing? For me it's a good mix of both I guess. I want to be surprised and have fun while producing, but also have control in the details πŸŽ›️"

The press release:

"Meet Mavis: The Newest Addition to the Moog Semi-Modular Family
Mavis, a new all-analog semi-modular synthesizer, delivers legendary Moog sound in an affordable and compact musical machine. An inspiring and expressive instrument, Mavis offers serious value to anyone looking to learn synthesis or explore Moog sound in a new way.

This build-it-yourself synthesizer kit is ready to come to life as a powerful, patchable analog instrument, either mounted in a Eurorack case or on its own. Mavis's intuitive design allows for immediate musical exploration (no patching required) and is ready to guide your journey through the expansive world of modular synthesis through its flexible patch bay and accompanying educational resources.

Mavis features the first-ever Moog wavefolding circuit, allowing for additive synthesis to sit alongside traditional subtractive synthesis, unlocking sounds never heard before on a Moog instrument. Mavis offers incredible value through its clever collection of circuits, including two oscillators, full ADSR, a ladder filter, sample and hold, attenuators, mixer, mults, and much more, providing all the tools needed for creative patching and sound design.

Mavis delivers huge depth of sound to any creative looking to begin their journey into synthesis, expand their Moog ecosystem, or enhance their Eurorack setup."

Additional details & pics:

"As one of their most affordable semi-modular synthesizers to date, Moog's Mavis is equally at home as a standalone instrument, companion to the Mother series, or active member of a bustling Eurorack system. Shipped as an easily assembled kit, the excitement of putting together your own instrument gives way to a wonderful journey of sonic exploration.

Mavis packs all of the essential elements of a full synthesis voice into a compact package—oscillator, filter, ADSR envelope generator, and VCA—as well as some special surprises, including Moog's first-ever wavefolder! Best of all, everything is accessible through 24 patch points, overriding the internal normalled connections and putting Mavis's signal flow under your control.

As with all Moog's best synths, Mavis begins with an all-analog VCO, with this particular design featuring a blend control crossfading between sawtooth and pulse waveforms. PWM and pitch modulation are available with independent level controls, and may be shaped by the LFO, envelope generator, or a mix of the two. The hallmark of any Moog synth, the resonant lowpass ladder filter, makes an appearance on Mavis, and may be similarly controlled with the LFO and/or envelope with positive or negative polarity. As for the VCA, leave it wide open for drones or shape it with the ADSR for lush swells or snappy plucks.

Mavis subscribes to the same modular philosophies as Moog's legacy instruments as well as their hit Mother series. With the 24-point patch bay, additional elements are available to coax more interesting patches out of Mavis. Split and distribute signals with the multiple, inject uncertainty with the sample and hold, and balance audio or control signals with the DC-coupled mixer. Most surprising of all is the inclusion of a diode wavefolder—the first such design on any Moog instrument—bringing a touch of West Coast-style waveshaping into their world of traditionally subtractive designs.

Though Mavis can exist totally independently, it shines in collaboration with others. Place it on your desk alongside your other patchable instruments, or remove Mavis from its enclosure and mount it in a Eurorack case as a 44hp module for highly nested interactions. Mavis ships with a handful of patch cables, overlay sheets, and a protective plastic dust cover for when the instrument isn't in use. Whether you're just starting out or looking for a fully-featured Moog synth voice, Mavis delivers in spades.

Upgrading the DFAM

video upload by PanicGirlVids

"In this video I'll show you how I "upgraded" my DFAM from Moog with bigger knobs. Whenever I tuned the single steps on the DFAM it took me quite a while to get it right, so I decided to give the DFAM knob set from Thonk a try. You'll need a bit of patience to install them all properly, but it's doable in about 5-10 minutes all in all. And it does look pretty nice in the end, don't you think?

Song Mode for Digitakt Digitone Syntakt is here!

video upload by Dave Mech

"So they finally did it. They added song mode to the digitakt, digitone and syntakt! I think a lot of people will be very pleased with this. Really cool to see that Elektron keeps updating their line-up with really major updates that keep the instruments alive and relevant yet again for years to come.

In this video I show you how the song mode works and how you can also use it in a creative way. There was also a major update to the firmware of Syntakt adding a lot of great functionality like Portamento, global fx settings, midi mod matrixes and a few other very useful features. Beyond the scope of this video, and the video I did record to showcase those functions was unfortunately ruined. So maybe next time :)

Anyway, enjoy!

OP-1 and Cocoquantus Jam

video upload by PanicGirlVids

"Often when I start designing a sound it doesn't sound good at all, compared to the end result that is. I guess it's the same in many art forms, like painting, illustration or even photography, poetry or writing a novel. It needs refinement, experimentation, patience and most importantly confidence in your own vision πŸ’ž✨ The vibe of this one reminds me a bit of the newer Radiohead records, big fan here πŸ™Œ"
