Sound Of: Simmons SDS-V Analog Drum Machine ( Bass / Snare and Tom Tom Modules Only )

Sound Provider

"It's been a long time since I've made a video of a drum machine.
Let's fix that by continuing to explore the material we use in Sound Provider Studio for production or for Sound-Banks by listening to the venerable SDSV Drum Modules built in the early 80's in the UK by Simmons.
For this demo I use Mutable instruments Modules from my Eurorack system to trig the Drum, "Grids" for Kick/Snare and "Grids" with "Branches" for the Toms . Also even if I use few EQ and Few dynamic processor I try to keep the sound quite raw and I didn 't add any other effects like reverb, delay or modulation.
Unfortunatly I didn 't have the Cymbal and HiHat modules ,the drummers used most often their real cymbal and hihat with the modules at the time, so they are rather rare and expensive. It makes the demo with all the modules a little rough without them.
I use a lot my SDS-V for Sound Provider soundbanks expecially for the "Analog Kick, Snare and Tom Now" ( https://www.sound-provider.eu/ )

0:02 Bass Module (Kick)
1:31 Snare Module
2:50 Tom Module x 1
4:08 Tom Modules x3
6:05 All Modules
8:00 All Modules but more Techno (without all the Effects and heavy Processing)

Note about my version: It have mod someone did for me , it's a module in the front where I can switch directly the patch from my Modular , the Knob can adjust the amount of velocity and the button can trig the sound without any external gear (very useful if you want to trigger and adjust the sound)

4 Minutes Demo of the Arturia Matrixbrute Custom Waveform Lfo.

Sound Provider

"One function I like on my lovely Matrixbrute Synth is the ability to draw your own LFO.

I didnt t find a good demo about it, so I decided to make a quick one.

This ability to draw your own waveform appeared with the 2nd firmware, it can be super powerful and be used on very complex patch, it can be also pretty useful for techno or Dubstep for wobble bass modulation but not only.
For this Demo I used a very simple bass patch with only 4 looped notes to focus on the modulation. The lfo here is modulates only one of the two synthesizer filters (The Vcf1 Steiner, the VCF2 Ladder is bypassed here)
The blue or Red color a the the bottom of the matrix show if the step is smooth or snappy.
For people how are interested the Kick is "Sp Techno Kick and Rumble 130Bpm 26" From Sound Provider :"Techno Kick Now" Sound-bank and the HiHat is "Sp Techno HH 125 Bpm Off Beat 02" (time stretch to 130Bpm) from Sound Provider "Techno Hi Hat Now" https://www.sound-provider.eu/"

Lo-fi Mellotron Style Sampler with a Gieskes DIY hacked Walkman ( Zachteman )

Sound Provider

"A friend lent me a Zachteman for a few days and I took the opportunity to record a lot of stuff with it. The Zechteman is a kind of DIY Mellotron made from a hacked portable cassette player created by the genius Gieskes. It has a keyboard, a vibrato and even a Cv input that controls the pitch and a Gate input that controls the vibrato (Perfect to use it with my Eurorack Synth).
For this demo, I used my Aiwa Cassette Recorder to record a single note with my Analog Synthesiter Moog Werkstatt for 5 minutes and then I used the cassette with the Zachteman to create a melody.
For the last part I added some effects with the Zoia of Empress Effects and I took the opportunity to make a quick Beat with sounds I released on Sound Provider( Analog Now & Techno Now / https://www.sound-provider.eu/ ) with Maschine Plus of Native Instruments, it allowed me to see that the sample banks of sound provider also works well with the Hiphop 😊😉

Voila!

Boss DR 55 Dr. Rhythm Analog Drum Machine Demo

Published on Oct 19, 2017 Sound Provider

"Another Drum machine we use for the Sound Provider Sound Banks.( http://www.sound-provider.eu/ ), archaic to program but super punchy sound

The Boss Dr55 "Dr. Rhythm" Drum Machine is a early 80s vintage Japan write-step drum machine.

Some words about it from VintageSynth.com:
"The DR-55 Dr. Rhythm was released in 1980 and was one of the first step-write-style drum machines, and it was the first rhythm machine in BOSS' successful Dr. Rhythm Series. It was small, inexpensive and easy to use - perfect for musicians at any level. Incredibly basic controls and sounds made this drum machine an instant hit among guitarists and other musicians looking for drum accompaniment to practice along with and even record into their home recordings.

The DR-55 could store up to six 16-step drum patterns plus an additional two 12-step patterns. The 12-step patterns allowed for 3/4 and 6/8 rhythms. A variation switch allowed you to, on-the-fly, alter the pattern playing. There were only four sounds in the DR-55 which included Snare Drum, Kick Drum, Rim Shot and Hi-Hat. The sounds are comparable to Roland's CR-series of rhythm machines as well as some of Roland's cheaper TR-machines (like the TR-505, TR-606). You can globally adjust the Volume, Tempo, Tone and Accent for the drum sounds.

Step-Mode programming was accomplished in a fairly basic manner: Switch the DR-55 into Write Mode and select a sound from the Sound switch, and use the Start button to place the sound and the Stop button to step through the 16 (or 12) beat pattern. Only Kick, Snare, Rim Shot and Accent could be placed in a pattern in step mode--the Hi-Hats could only be programmed as either Off, 8ths, 12ths or 16ths via the Hi-Hat switch. Primitive programming for sure, but very simple and effective.

Today, where its sounds can easily be sampled, the DR-55 may seem pretty useless. However it does have an authentic sense of nostalgia being BOSS' first DR-machine and also quite a successful early programmable drum machine. You may not find a need for such an instrument today although it does make a great conversation piece! It has been used by New Order, The Cure, Chris Carter, Sisters of Mercy, Chris & Cosey, Xeno & Oaklander, Soft Cell and Thomas Dolby."

Sound Of: Modor DR-2 Digital Drum Machine Algorithms/Models

video by Sound Provider

"In this rather long video I tried to present you all the algorithms of the Modor DR-2 one by one, a drum machine that does not have many demos on the net to give you an idea of the variety of sounds it produces. I really like this drum machine which some algorithm allow to create rare or unique sounds like with the Claps or theRattle Model (Check the Time Line at the end of the description)

I focused mainly on the models here and I don't show or very little the more advanced functions like accents, random variations, compressors, reverse function...

I am recording now a lot this superb Drum Synth for the next sound bank for sound Provider ( https://www.sound-provider.eu/ ) and also for my personal tracks.

For those interested I have posted a shorter video of the machine on a Techno demo here : [posted here]

Otherwise I wanted to apologize, I realized during the editing that I had left a snare drum in the back that we sometimes hear in the background.

Korg Rhythm 55 Analog Vintage Drum Machine Demo (KR-55 )

Published on Sep 19, 2017 Sound Provider

"Quick demo of the Korg Rhythm 55 , it is another Drum machine we use for the Sound Provider Sound Banks.( http://www.sound-provider.eu/ )
Even if it s rather basic we like its punchy sounds and also the swing.
This version is modded with separate outputs for each sound and an Sync24 in.
Few words from Vintage Synth Explorer
"The KR55 was, for its time (1979), an advanced preset rhythm drum machine with up to 96 preset rhythm patterns! These patterns cover the whole gamut of presets (Waltz, Samba, Rhumba, Bossa Nova, Tango, Slow Rock, Swing, Rock, etc.). The KR55 also featured a "swing beat" control to add a variation to the groove. Each drum sound's level can be individually adjusted for each pattern. It can also be externally controlled via footswitch jack for the Start/Stop and Intro/Fill switches. The KR55B was a black-chassis version released a few years later in 1982 with twice as many rhythm patterns. It has been used by Jean-Michel Jarre, Trio and Depeche Mode."

Techno Jam with Moog Subharmonicon

Published on May 22, 2020 Sound Provider

"On this video, I did a kind of Hypnotic techno Jam with the Moog Subharmonicon Synth.

For this one I play a lot with the Seq1 to do and improvise different rhythm.

I think I m happy enought with the synth sound to release a tarck with it later when I 'll have time to record other layers and make a better arrangement.

For this demo I use only sound from my Sound Provider Sample pack ( www.sound-provider.eu )

Maschine Plus Test with "Techno Kick & Hi-Hat Now" SamplePacks.

Sound Provider

I just received the new Standalone Maschine Plus from Native Instruments at the Studio and I m super excited about it. I want to use it in studio to compose in many different styles and for Dawless Jam but also and especially as the brain of my next Techno Live without computer.
The first thing I do almost systematically when I get a new sampler is to test my personal Kick and Hi-Hat Sound Banks. In the past I have been surprised by the reproduction of Kicks by some samplers, some losing the sub and impact of the kicks. The hihat test is also important to see if we keep the dimension and brilliance of the percussion and also to see if the kick and hihat doesn't get lost together.
For this test, since we are never better served than by ourselves, I used 2 soundbanks that I released on Sound Provider: 'Techno kick now' & 'Techno hi-hat now' https://www.sound-provider.eu/ .After my first test for the moment I am super happy with the sound of the sampler, my Kicks ,Rumble Bass and Hi Hat keep their impact and power."

Modor DR-2 Drum Machine Clap through Boss DD8 GLT Mod for Techno Glitchy and Chaotic Delay.

video by Sound Provider

"Hello,
I am testing here a new sound design combo for my next tracks , Live act , sound bank for sound provider (https://www.sound-provider.eu/ ) and also for fun .
The New DD-8 GLT delay mode created glitchy machine-gun effects when the pedal switch is pressed. It s quite fun to use and add little chaos and Glitch effect , I think it will be fun to use it in my next live show in addition to the other mods I already use. I use it here with the Beautiful digital drum machine from Modor , the DR-2.
For info about the mix I added a very very little bit of reverb on the clap and some EQ and compressor on all the percussions.

Voila , I hope some of you will find this video useful and that you will enjoy it.

Testing Arturia PolyBrute for Trancy Techno Track.

Sound Provider

"Small demo of the Arturia Polybrute Polyphonic Analog Synth on a Basic Techno /Trance-y Track here.
Originally I did this to test the presets I created for Arturia, to check if they could be used as they are, we all already found some amazing presets impossible to place in a song.
For this exercise I mixed this song differently than a "normal" song:
Even if I used some EQs and compressors, I used them a lot more lightly to avoid denaturing too much the sound of the PolyBrute, I didn't use any effects other than those of the Synthesizer (reverb/delay and modulation), I also played everything by hand in one shot without doing any edits.
The result is a bit rough but I think it's ok to give an idea .
For the sounds of this demo come from the Synthetiser except the Kick which comes from the Sound Bank I made for Sound Provider: "Techno kick now" ( Sp Techno Kick 130Bpm 01 ) and 2 loops of HiHat which comes at 0:36,1:20 and 2:35 which come from "Techno hi-hat now". (Sp Techno HH 130 Bpm Full 03 / Sp Techno HH 130 Bpm Off Beat 05 )
You can always go on the site ( https://www.sound-provider.eu/ )to listen to their demos and why not buy them for your tracks (and also support us ❤😉)
All the other sounds come from the PolyBrute:
Bass, Pad, Horn, Arp, Bouncing Lead, Wobble bass, First HH/percu, Noise Fx.

This is not an easy diy project, a friend help me to fix some stuff at the end.
I test it in front of Acidlab Miami /Roland Tr8 &Tr8s TipTop Audio Eurorack Modules and a Real Tr808, and this is my favorite with the real Tr808.
For this demo I use separate output for the Kick snare and HiHat and I use SSL eq and compressor to mix the sound.
I use it a lot for the Analog Drum Sample Soundbank of Sound Provider www.sound-provider.eu .
Enjoy and like always feel free to subscribe to the channel for more :)"

Published on Aug 2, 2017 Sound Provider

"I m recording again some loops from this Aria Diamond for Sound Provider next Soundbanks. We already use it on most of the 'Analog Drum Now' series. (http://www.sound-provider.eu/ )
This Drum Machine was build in Japan (end of 60's begin of 70's) and was also release under the name of Korg Minipop 3 (in Japan ) and Univox Sr-55 (in Us). I like it's classic old School Drum Machine powerful Sound even if it have little buzz and the output are not so loud and need good preamp (I use the preamp of my Allen & Heath Gs3000 console here)"

Sound Provider
Published on Aug 7, 2017

"Recording the lovely Metasonix D-1000 Drum Machine for http://www.sound-provider.eu/
I'm in Love with its kind of primitive sound, Don't use it if you are afraid of background noise or uncontrolled sub :)

Info from schneiders laden Site:
The D-1000 Vacuum-Tube Drum Machine is the first drum machine made with vacuum tubes since the Wurlitzer Sideman of 1959. Even though it has only four drum sounds -- two tunable drums, a tunable hard "snare" drum, and a cymbal -- control voltage inputs give great flexibility.

Leonard de Leonard Dawless Techno Live in Sound Provider Studio For Techno Elevation OnLine Festival

video by Sound Provider

"Dawless Techno Jam / Live from Leonard de Leonard from the Sound Provider Studio/ Berlin for "Techno Is Our Life": Techno Elevation On Line Festival.
It always fun to do Studio session like that, it's easier to choose the gear you ll use when you work on your Studio rather than choosing the one that will fit in the suitcase when we have to take the plane 😊.(even if playing in front of IRL dancers is much much better)
Lot of improvisation here , so no "real tracks" already release, if you like some parts tell me in the comment with the timing, maybe I'll try to make some songs around these parts.

Noticeable Gear I use here:
Drums and Percussions come from Native Instruments Maschine Plus, Modor DR 2 Digital Drum Machine and Eurorack modules and Patch
Synth bass and arp come from Novation Circuit Mono Station Analog Synth and most of the time from Modular Synthesizer (lot of Roland/Intellijel/Noise Engineering...)
Live Sequence from Toraiz Squid, Metropolis, Grids, Circuit , Maschine Plus Modor..."

Roland Aira TR-8S Sampler quick workflow with custom sample Demo by Sound Provider

"Introducing the Roland AIRA TR-8S: Rhythm Performer Meets Sound Designer.

The performance-tuned TR-8S combines stereo sample playback with iconic Roland TR- drum sounds and deep editing parameters to allow you to craft your dream drum kits. New sequencer, motion-recording, and increased variations, effects, and outputs are some of the features that have evolved the TR- drum machine to set a new standard in sound design and live performance."

"Born of the most famous and influential drum machines ever made, the TR-8S combines the best of its Roland heritage with modern production techniques and professional sound design.
The result? A forward-thinking, performance-tuned instrument unlike any other. Build your dream kit from the most iconic drum sounds of all time,
plus the finest selection of samples from our vast library—or import your own custom samples. Tap, tune, and tweak with hands-on controls and production tools that make your patterns move and groove. And why keep this kind of percussive power confined to the studio? The TR-8S was literally made to play live.

Design Kits with Authentic TR Drums,Sampled Sounds, and Effects

The TR-8S comes loaded with the largest, most authentic collection of TR drum machines available. The powerful new processor gives our next-generation ACB models a whole new level of detail and nuance, giving you that classic Roland boom, snap, and sizzle. And now you can incorporate preset and custom samples, creating unique hybrid and layered kits, and enhance them with specialized effects that inject professional sound design into the TR formula.

Transistor Rhythms

The TR-8S has every sound from the most sought-after TR drum machines, with detailed circuit-models of the 808, 606, 909, 707, 727, and even several modified versions. These are not sound-alike sample-packs or mere recordings of TR drum sounds. Each machine is a detailed, down-to-the-circuit-model that sounds and behaves exactly like the original hardware. All these sounds are yours, at your fingertips, and ready to use in your own productions and performances.

Testing Eurorack TB 303 Acid Setup Style

Published on Nov 24, 2017 Sound Provider

"I m testing for a future 'Leonard de Leonard' Live and tracks a Roland Tb303 acid style Modular synth setup.
For this setup in my Doepfer case I use the Metropolis Sequencer from intellijel.

For the sound I use the M303 from acidlab through the crazy Strakal Brulu Fuzz and the Make noise Echophon Delay.

For modulation I use 2 Ornament and crime, One is in Sequins mode to trig the Accent and the slide of the M303 and the other is in Mata -q mode to add 3 octave from the metropolis to the M303.

I use also a 4MS pingable Envelope generator to modulate the M303 filter.

I still have to improve this setup but I already like it a lot, it's very fun to play. If you have proposal or question fell free to say it.

For this video I did a very quick drum line with drum shot from the http://www.sound-provider.eu/ Analog Sound banks

Some world from schneidersladen about the Modular synthesizer is use:

Acidlab - M303:
The M303 is an entire synthesizer voice and to be exact a clone of the TB-303´s analog circuitry in a single Eurorack module. Imagine it as a modular vesion of the Acidlab Bassline without the sequencer but with aditional CV inputs instead.

Intellijel Designs - Metropolis:
Very intuitive eight-step sequencer inspired by the RYK-185 project. It shines with different trigger modes, glide, rest and skip per step, it has swing, a quantizer and a clock generator but the most wicked function is that each step can be repeated before proceeding to the next one. Combined with adjustable length per step you get an instant Techno generator! An awesome machine.

TouellSkouarn - Strakal Brulu Koavonek:
Directly from the Brittany in beautiful France comes the Strakal Brulu, a handmade distortion and fuzz module. The great sound is due to the new-old-stock east-german germanium transistors.

Make Noise - Echophon:
The Echophon flips the script on the trend of software based emulation of analog gear! Tony Rolando from MakeNoise and Tom Erbe from Soundhack prsent the Echophon, a DSP based Echo and Delay module for the Eurorack modular system. It is a digital echo with an unique pitch shifting alogorithm, smooth time modulation, tempo synchronisation and feedbacks with saturation. All parameters can be voltage controlled.

4ms Pingable Envelope Generator:
The Pingable Envelope Generator or PEG is a dual digital envelope generator. The duration of one envelope cycle can be forced-to-fit between two "pings". This means that the envelope will perfectly fit into a rhythmical scheme!
