Super Chill Ambient Music with my Thomann Wishlist Leftovers #TTNM #TSR19

Published on Mar 19, 2019
Music starts at 1:30 The Tuesday Night Machines

"At Thomann Synth Reactor 2019, I went through my Thomann online wish list and got the items that have been on it since forever from the Treppendorf warehouse. Music gear that I never bothered to order only to try it out. So without having time to read any manuals, here's a super relaxed ambient music jam with the following products:

- TC Electronic Ditto Looper *
- Mooer Ocean Machine *
- Roger Linn Linnstrument 128 (the small one) *
- Fun Generation LED Diamond Dome *
- Roli Seaboard 5D MPE iOS App

Weird Electronic Music Home Studio Speedpainting Jam #TTNM

Published on Dec 30, 2018 The Tuesday Night Machines

"Another modular synthesizer inspired Procreate painting with the Apple Pencil 2 ... well, at least at the end you can see the painting. Before, I mashed together a visual pattern made on vertexshaderart.com with effects from LumaFusion. It’s weird ... just like the music I created for this video. Oh geez. MORE INFO BELOW!

---------

PixelNoises Synth T-Shirts by The Tuesday Night Machines:

---------

Gear used:
- iPad Pro 11“ 2018 with Apple Pencil 2 and a bunch of Apps:
Procreate (drawing and timelapse)
LumaFusion (video editing and export)
AUM (audio routing, recording, mixing and lots more)
Volt (expressive synthesizer)
DM1 (drum machine)
various audio FX Apps
YouTube (video uploading and sharing)

So this video was another test of what one can do with the iPad Pro as a “computer” for painting, electronic music making and video editing and sharing. In LumaFusion you can have up to three video tracks and there’s a green-screen key effect. I used this to blend the vertexshaderart.com screen capture with the speedpainting time-lapse from Procreate and added some more video effects from LumaFusion on top. At the end all of that fades out and the final painting is visible. The shader art I made is this one:
https://www.vertexshaderart.com/art/Y...

Not sure if I will ever be any good at programming those visuals, but it’s a fun brain teaser exercise, similar to bytebeat coding.

Anyway, that’s it ... the Apple Pencil 2 has been behaving properly for the past couple of days, by the way. I hope I can keep it."

A fishy speedpainting ambient music video! Made on the iPad Pro #TTNM

Published on Dec 26, 2018 The Tuesday Night Machines

"Okay, people. Here’s another Apple Pencil 2 painting time-lapse video, this time of a kitschy fish, with a new ambient music synth jam as audio track. Take a break and relax to this experience ;) This video was created entirely on the iPad Pro. MORE INFO BELOW!

Gear used:
- iPad Pro 11“ 2018 with Apple Pencil 2 and a bunch of Apps:
Procreate (drawing and timelapse)
LumaFusion (video editing and export)
AUM (audio routing, recording, mixing and lots more)
Volt (expressive synthesizer)
Tardigrain (granular synth)
DM1 (drum machine)
Axon 2 (drum machine)
various audio FX Apps
YouTube (video uploading and sharing)

This was a test if I could create a music video entirely on the iPad Pro without a “computer” involved, and it worked out incredibly well. As you might know, I’m a big fan of AUM for the whole audio and synth thing, so that wasn’t anything new to me. Video editing however was something I have never done before on the tablet and using LumaFusion for it was amazing. It’s no Final Cut X of course (my NLE of choice, since I decided to drop Premiere Pro), but it does offer a lot of features and controls that are good to work with. Unfortunately it doesn’t allow HDR mastering, but that’s a pretty special request for any software still ;) I have the feeling that I could do anything I need on mobile devices now and I will explore this workflow further with a little bit of new gear too, because I obviously want to continue to create videos with real-life footage of my synthesizer jamming. Drawing is fun though, even if that Apple Pencil 2 still behaves a bit weird ... I figured out that the magnetic edge on the iPad and/or Pencil 2 doesn’t always realize that the stylus is attached and won’t charge it then. This was actually the reason for the problem I wrote about in my previous speedpainting video.

Questions or comments? Go ahead and post them below! :) Thanks for watching! Check out my channel for more Synthesizer Music.

Mellow Apple Pencil 2 Speedpainting iOS Synth Music Jam (in HDR on supported devices) #TTNM

Published on Dec 25, 2018 The Tuesday Night Machines

"What a title?! Yeah, okay ... so I drew something on the iPad in the Procreate App with that new Apple Pencil 2. I exported the drawing as a time-lapse speedpaint video and jammed to it with a bunch of iOS Synth and FX Apps. MORE INFO BELOW :)

Also, my Apple Pencil 2 almost “died” after leaving it unattached to the iPad Pro 11” 2018 for two days, after which it wouldn’t reconnect anymore. Looks like the pencil’s battery can drain pretty fast when not using it and when it’s at 0% it took eight hours attached to the iPad’s magnetic edge and several reconnection tries to get it recognized by the iPad again. It then started charging quite quickly from 0% again, so I don’t know if those eight hours prior actually did anything. Apple is not what it used to be anymore, damnit."

The Tuesday Night Machines: 6 things I like about the Bastl THYME #TTNM

---------

Bastl Instruments Thyme website:
https://www.bastl-instruments.com/ins...

The Thyme is an effects processor that is best described as a sequenceable robot operated digital tape machine. With a lot of parameters at hand it enables the exploration of all the time based effects and the vast space in between their classical multi-effects categories (delay, phaser, reverb, chorus, pitch shifter, multi-tap delay, tape delay, tremolo, vibrato, compressor) and in stereo! Each of the 9 different parameters (Tape Speed, Delay Coarse & Fine, Feedback, Filter, extra heads Spacing and Levels, Dry Wet Mix and Volume) has a dedicated, very flexible modulation source – called the Robot – which can be phased out differently for left and right channel to create psychedelic new sound effects. The Robot can either be an LFO with many different waveshapes, external CV source or an envelope follower to enable effects reacting to dynamics. On top of everything there are 8 buttons to select a preset and those presets can be sequenced by a built in meta sequencer. The Sequencer, the Robots and the Delay can be synchronised to external or internal clock. Thyme interfaces with MIDI, analog clock and CV, it has a switchable stereo/mono input, stereo output, headphone output with level and foot switch jack."

Published on Jun 19, 2018 The Tuesday Night Machines

"Here's an improv practice jam on the Linnstrument, an amazingly expressive isomorphic MIDI controller keyboard, which I'm just starting to learn. My timing and notes are definitely off a bit, but I still wanted to record this for my musical diary :) More info below.

Gear used in this video:

- Roger Linn Design Linnstrument MPE MIDI Controller (the pad flickering is due to the iPhone's camera frame rate)
http://www.rogerlinndesign.com/linnst...

iPad Apps:
- iFretless Guitar, Bass & Sax iOS Apps
- ThumbJam iOS App, playing the Blues Harmonica instrument
- DM1 Drum Machine iOS App
- Kymatica AUM for recording, mixing and mastering
- Additional FX Apps: Audio Damage QuatroMod, Holderness Media Crystalline Reverb, Kymatica AUFX: Space Reverb

The Linnstrument is set to low power mode and is connected to the iPad directly via the Apple Camera Connection Kit's USB dongle. AUM acts as a DAW to load, record and mix all the other apps' audio and export a master. It's a really quick and painless workflow not requiring as computer at all :)"
