Playlist:
MOOG LABYRINTH REVEALED! FIRST UNBOXING VIDEO
MOOG LABYRINTH: DETAILED WALKTHROUGH
MOOG LABYRINTH: FIRST SOUNDS!!!
MOOG LABYRINTH: MELLOW MOOD SOUNDS EXPLORATION

Side note: the walkthrough actually went up after the audio demos. I moved the walkthrough up as it's the most interesting video. I just wanted to clarify as the sound demos that follow were likely done before becoming more familiar with the featureset.

Kawai K1r Rackmount Digital Synthesizer

video upload by Alfonse

"You can support the creating of these videos by buying the music: https://alfonse.bandcamp.com/album/ka...

All sounds in this track came from the K1r, including the drums. There are a few custom patches in here as well, which are available to download from https://www.alfonsemusic.com/Patches/

The Kawai K1r (1988) is a rack mount version of the K1 synth which uses Kawai's "VM additive synthesis tone generator", with a selection of 256 basic waveforms, including 52 PCM samples. Building a sound involves mixing up to four of the waveforms, with the ability to add ring modulation as well, but as with so many digital units of the time, it's a slow process diving through the detailed menus on that small LCD screen.

Fortunately, there's a VST available from Nils Schneider that's very close to the original sound (some envelopes sound a little different on my K1r compared to the virtual instrument) - you can find it here: https://www.nilsschneider.de/

PPG - Polyphonic Pressure Generator for Voltage Modular (Hardware Demo)

video upload by Cherry Audio

"This is a quick demonstration of the Polyphonic Pressure Generator from @Tim Shoebridge of Soundmangling.com for Voltage Modular. Voltage Modular is generally regarded as a software modular system, but Tim has been creating some fantastic modules that extend it to hardware. VM runs standalone or in a DAW, and with the PPG module and a regular keyboard controller, you have all you need to transmit polyphonic aftertouch messages to Poly AT compatible synthesizers, hardware or software.

In monophonic channel aftertouch, applying pressure to any key within a chord will apply modulation to all notes currently held. With polyphonic aftertouch, modulation can be applied on a per-note basis, allowing for more expressive performances.

In this demo, the Roland JUPITER-X has a keybed that provides basic monophonic channel pressure aftertouch. But the synth engine itself actually supports receipt of polyphonic aftertouch messages and plays them accordingly. Usually, this would require an external controller like a CME XKey or the Hydrasynth to exploit the Poly AT of the JUPITER-X (or Xm).

PPG can be used to create the same expressive experience with any standard controller, and any synth that receives Poly AT (like Sequential's Prophet 6 and OB-6). This brief demo shows the difference between channel pressure on the JUPITER-X, and then polyphonic aftertouch with PPG and a simple Launchkey Mini. In this case, PPG is configured with a velocity threshold so that any notes played at or above a certain velocity get the modulation envelope applied to them. The other notes are unaffected.

For a more extensive explanation and demonstration, see Tim's PPG video [below] and get more details on this and other great hardware-oriented modules at his Soundmangling.com website at https://www.soundmangling.com/modules..."

2019 Meets 1979 - Volca Modular Through Korg Ms10

video by ChrisLody

"Apologies that this is a bit long and self indulgent, I was having way to much fun here. This is something I've been meaning to try for a while, running the Volca Modular through the Korg Ms10 via a prototype breadboard. I don't have a modular system (yet) but it turns out this is a great way to have some fun. The Modular and the Ms10 are from totally different eras obviously and don't even appear to be compatible. The Ms10 uses the Hz/V for it's oscillators and S-Trigger to trigger it's envelope, meaning when the input receives a ground pulse it is triggered. The Volca Modular uses it's own weird 0.5v/Oct pitch standard so CV from the VM to the Ms10 is not possible, and uses the more conventional triggering method of positive pulses triggering it's envelopes. Luckily though connecting the output pulse of Function 1 is completely reversed and is a gate not a trigger so will even preserve note length so this is used to trigger the Ms10 envelope. The Volca Modular can convert incoming voltages into it's standard but that does not include the Hz/V standard unfortunately, so I'm just running the audio out into the Ms10 and using the raw oscillator outputs as audio rate modulators. Also we can use the noise output routed to the VM as a noise source.

So the top 2 sections of the video were recorded at the same time along with the sync out from the VM into Reaper. I then recorded the bottom 2 sections while the sync pulse plays back into the VM so it all syncs up.

In the top half I'm running audio to the Ms10's input from the VM, triggering the envelope from the VM's Function 1 which controls the envelope routed to the filter. The noise output on the Ms10 is fed back to the VM and i'm using the LFO output on the Ms10 to control the length of Function 2.

The bottom half of the video has the output of LPG1 routed to control the filter which gives us some tasty filter FM. Also the raw output of one of the VM's source oscillators is routed to the oscillator frequency also giving some nasty sounding FM tones. Additionally I have a modded Fab Echo pedal set up which is a pretty cool delay, much nicer than the stock echo it used to make.

I'm sure there's much more to explore here so this will probably pop up again soon I imagine. Once I've fully explored this I'll make a tutorial. I imagine this would work on an Ms20 too.

Life blog bit: I had my first Astra Zeneca jab yesterday and it was pretty nasty. I got the jab at 4.30pm, went to bed at 11.30pm shivering uncontrollably then woke up feeling like I'd been beaten with hammers all night. It took until about 11.00am until I had the energy to get up and I'm still not quite right at 3.30pm the day after. Apparently the second dose is worse. Not looking forward to it now!"

Roland VM-3100 Mixing Workstation - effects on guitar - a quick jam with SE-02, Volca Sample & Keys

Expanding Sound

"The Roland VM-3100 Mixing workstation is a weird relic of the turn of the century. It's a very early mixer/converter from the early 2000s with some features that make it somewhat out of date. This thing cost 2000 dollars when it came out! Now it can be found for under 200. I was given this mixer by a friend who deemed it to be useless for his new setup. My outlook on gear is that I always think it has a purpose. So after playing some guitar through the built in effects I realized the effects are probably an overlooked section of the mixer. I think they sound really nice! This jam is just me having a little fun trying out the effects on guitar while using the mixer with my Roland SE-02, Volca Keys, and Volca Sample. Im playing a Fender Duo Sonic."

"Complete Analog Synth Voice

The VM-1 is a complete voice module with an oscillator, multi mode filter, amplifier and two different envelope generators.

The OSCILLATOR can produce seven basic waveforms. The pitch is controlled manually by knobs COARSE and FINE and by attenuable CV1 and CV2 inputs. The pitch CV inputs are carefully trimmed for 1 Volt/octave sensitivity.
The pulse width can be controlled by knob 'PULSE WIDTH' and by external signals inserted to attenuable input "PWM". The SYNC is provided by an external signal to input SYNC.

The Multi Mode Filter consist of an audio mixer (MIX), filter and modulation controllers for cutoff, q-peak and output morph. The MIX control mixes two signals or allows ring modulation; oscillators output and external audio signal (AUDIO). The MMF is a four pole multi mode filter. The low pass, band pass and high pass mode are mixed at filters output by morphing function; knob MODE MORPH and controllable by an external CV signal MORPH and outgoing level is attenuated by a voltage controlled amplifier."

New eurorack module:

"We all love Eurorack for all the infinite possibilities it presents to create new sound machines. However, when you aspire for more voices and more timbres within Eurorack, that usually requires a significant amount of space and budget outlay. That leaves you no viable options, other than to leave your Eurorack and attempt to connect with outboard gear that does not easily integrate. Now – with Dino Park – you gain access to a world of infinite sonic possibilities, while staying within your Eurorack!

Dino Park is not fixed synthesis architecture – it is as flexible as your Eurorack. It can load different “synth models” which feature radically different forms of synthesis – including vintage subtractive, additive, wavetable and FM – providing infinitely expandable and exciting sonic capabilities in every Eurorack.

Now increasing the sonic potential of your Eurorack has never been easier, or more affordable! . For newbies, Dino Park offers an easy, cost effective and gratifying way to start off their rack journey with a big sound foundation. For Eurorack veterans, Dino Park can close a lot of gaps and enrich any Eurorack performance. True “ best of” utility in big analog sound with the recall-reliability of digital.

We offer three Dino Park kits for the Eurorack"

4MS Dual Looping Delay Demo

Published on Jan 18, 2017 Russell E.L. Butler

"I've always loved 4ms and their approach to modular synthesis. They create modules that have incredibly musical and experimental applications.

In the video I demonstrate 3 different uses of the Dual Looping Delay.

The first patch consists of a Tip Top Audio SD808 being triggered by an Intellijel uStep. The uStep and the DLD are clocked by a Make Noise Tempi. The kick that comes in is a Tip Top Audio BD808

The second patch is created by a Cwejman VM-1, which is sequenced by a Korg SQ-1.

The third patch utilizes a drone the Cwejman VM-1. The DLD's Hold inputs are triggered by the Loop A and B outputs. The Time inputs are being modulated by two channels from the Make Noise Maths."

Patch Notes #15 - 0-Coast Noise Explorations

Published on Aug 21, 2016 Voltage Control Lab

"Patch Notes #15 examines using the stepped random voltage source on the Make Noise 0-Coast as a noise generator, along with other Eurorack based accompaniment.

The Korg SQ1 sync output is routed to the Tempi input to clock everything else. The channel A CV and Gate are routed to the 0-Coast pitch and gate inputs, channel b CV is routed to control the decay input on the Contour section.

The cycling Slope section output is routed to the Tempo input, and the stepped random output is routed to the Voltage Math section input. The Contour output is routed to the Voltage Math input 2, attached to the attenuverter. One of the VM outputs is routed to the Balance section audio input, the other is routed to the Multiply CV input. Channel A from the Ornament & Crime in Quadraturia mode is routed into the Overtone input. The output is from the 0-Coast is routed to the Malekko Mix4, then on to the Mutable Warps (running Parasite firmware in pingpong delay mode).

Tempi is clocking and resetting the Malekko Varigate 4, which has an 8 step, heavily randomized pattern triggering the Noise Engineering Basilimus Iteritas. Tempi is also clocking the Make Noise Brains with Pressure Points (one channel of which is modulating the pitch on the BI) and the Wogglebug (the stepped, smooth and bouncing outputs are routed to the decay time, morph and fold functions on the BI). The Malekko Anti-Oscillator is in LFO mode, routing the mayhem output to the harm input on the BI, while the cycling Malekko Envelator is modulating the spread. The BI is then routed out to the Mix4.

Finally, Tempi is also clocking René, which is playing a slow 3 step pattern on the DPO. The Final output is routed to the MMG, then the Optomix and back to the Mix4. René X-Gate output is routed to the Intellijel Dual ADSR, one channel opening the Optomix, the other modulating the MMG filter cutoff.
