"I used Patrick Cowley’s Sequential Circuits Pro-One for a few of the sounds. It had remained unused since his death in 1982 until 2022 when Tone Tweakers refurbished it and added MTG Turbo CPU and MIDI (reversible mods). I also used the Roland Juno-60 I got from my friend Vince. The rest of the sounds I dialed up from scratch on basic Logic softsynths, except for the piano, which was a preset."

New York City based synthesist-songwriter Jay Wires dials up catchy electropop infused with human emotion - synthpop art with a human heart. With a long history of dealing vintage synths to serious recording artists, Jay Wires finally started releasing music of his own in August 2022 through Yes Trigger Music.

‘Don’t Say Goodbye’ is a true story about being ghosted by a narcissist during the isolation and loneliness of COVID lockdown, cleverly disguised as an upbeat synthpop ditty that some may find reminiscent of Yazoo or The Postal Service.

‘Don’t Say Goodbye’ was suddenly released on July 7, 2023 without any prior promotion.

"The knobs are NOT original, but carefully laid out by myself for quick and easy visual identification. For the most part, every knob on the synth related to each section is a certain type. For example- Oscillator A is one type, Oscillator B has another type of knob, etc. etc. The master volume output knob (far right) is huge and feels so smooth to turn.

BIG NOTE- this comes with a Moog gig bag that fits the synth perfectly. I believe the bag was made for the Moog Sub37 and Little Phatty, but the Pro One REALLY fits well. Has a velcro handle, a shoulder strap, and a pouch to store cables, etc. Those bags aren't made anymore, and new they were about $80.

If you REALLY want the original knobs, they're about $150 per set online."

"Vintage orchestral synthesizer consisting of Piano, Organ, Brass, and String sections. Freshly serviced at Pro Audio Electronics in Tampa. Like many other similar 4-section synths of this type, all 49 keys will play simultaneously for 49-note polyphony. Two of the sections can be played at the same time. It has an on-board chorus/flanger effect as well as a 7-band equalizer. The on-board effects and EQ are great for thickening and modulating the string sound beyond the scope of traditional orchestral sounds. The Prelude has a very appealing and intuitive Sequential-esque layout and appearance and is definitely one of the finest orchestral-type multitimbral synths among others in its class."

"The Sequential Pro One is a fantastic monosynth. This one is in great condition with little to no use by me ... had it recently serviced to get it up to snuff . It comes from the same period and genre as the Roland and Moog . The Pro One was basically Sequential's attempt at taking their legendary poly-synth and packing it into a compact monophonic analog synth. It has two VCOs, a great 4-pole lowpass filter, two ADSR envelopes (one for filter), and a compact three-octave keyboard. With a Pro-One, you can easily create punchy analog bass-lines and leads or quirky analog synth effects.

The Pro One is an extremely flexible synth with lots of modulation possibilities (ie: the filter, VCO B and LFO can modulate VCO A or B frequencies or pulse widths, or the VCF). There's also an onboard sequencer, something common on many Sequential synths but not often found on other monosynths of the time. Also onboard is an arpeggiator which has UP and UP/DOWN patterns."

"We recently acquired Patrick Cowley’s Sequential Pro-One. We meticulously refurbished it just like we refurbish all the similar vintage synths we sell on our website. We also added the MTG turbo CPU update and MIDI retrofit. We didn’t want to drill holes in the back panel, so we ran an Ethernet cable out of the cable slot in the back to plug into a small external midi connector box. This instrument is now part of the incomparable collection of gear at The Synth Sanctuary electronic music studio in NYC. Track programmed by @jaywires (who you should follow), who will be recording a lot with this classic instrument in January of 2023, if all goes as planned. "Video of product at bottom. This is an electronic wizards dream. It lights up and comes on but the presets all sound the same. It functions as in emits a sound but it needs repair. I'm afraid it's going to have to be AS-IS as I don't have the talents to repair this rare beauty. Their might be only a handful of these in existence. This ultra-rare analog monosynth is called the Proteus 1. This is a monophonic analog synth with 16 memory locations! It's based on CEM chips (as used in the Sequential Circuits Pro-One and many other classic vintage synths). Its got two oscillators with oscillator sync, an envelope generator, LFO, lowpass resonant filter, glide and noise-gen. This synth is unique for a vintage monosynth in that it has patch memory which can be programmed by the user and also has a series of lights to show when knob settings match internal patch settings."

Patches programmed and played by so.it.goes. No effects added. What you hear is direct from the synth. Each part is from one patch only. There is no multi-tracking on any part.

Pros:
- amazing vintage Prophet sound
- lots of rhythmic options with an arpeggiator, sequencer, and powerful LFO
- modulation setup is very useful
- easy to make it sound magical

Cons:
- plastic case is cheap feeling
- no midi (but includes CV ins)
- can't save patches (though taking pictures can help)"
