Beat Blenders Looping Synth Wild Planet circuit bending toy

via this auction

"Yep! You are looking at the highly elusive sought after beat blender Alternative rock. Don't let this trippy noise making tool slip through your hands. Opened but Brand new in blister pack, Beat Blenders ' Alternative Rock '. From 2003 and no longer produced, they are hard to come across , especially in new untouched condition as people like to mod these machines as they have a RJ-45 connector for joining several of these machines together and making these circuit bent to get some real crazy sounds. The Beat Blender has 3 tracks controlled by beat selector buttons: Drums, Rhythm and Lead. * Each track has four or five different musical samples, plus a silent beat. The silent beat is marked by a beep when you select it. * There are four tempo settings, from slow to fast. Pressing TEMPO a fifth time returns you to where you started. * Use the song editor to slide from loop to loop Wild Planet's Alternative Rock Beat Blender, a weird music making toy. You slide the orange slider to select one of 4 banks that you can sequence by pushing the buttons on the left side: drums, rhythm, and lead, each with 4 different loops you can layer onto each other. It also has limited volume and speed control, and a very useful auto-fill feature that fills the banks with random loops. * Beat Blender has 3 tracks controlled by beat selector buttons: Drums, Rhythm and Lead. * Each track has four or five different musical samples, plus a silent beat. KORG Electribe ESX-1 Cake

This one in via Tom

"Korg Electribe ESX-1 cake for my friend Loz's birthday. It's basically a printed icing sheet atop a two layer sponge with marshmallows for the pots. Final construction was a bit rushed - the valves are represented by candles to be surrounded by orange jelly/jello but I didn't leave enough time to have that set. I also put a bit too much glycerin in the fondant so it melted somewhat. The rear is a bit of a bodge too with a bad colour match to the printed icing, but overall I think it came out OK."

The robot uses the same pitch-shifting chip as those children's toys that emulate godzilla, robots and the like. death by audio mix that with some wicked distortion to get the insane sound of the robot. it has a light sensor and vibrato. it's very cool and lo-fi, perfect for synth sound effects."

"There can be many different sounds in the mixer section at once. Each sound source (noise, vco 1, vco 2, ring mod, audio input) can be routed separately to either of the two filters or directly to VCA. Has stereo outputs, mono output, headphone out (which distorts beautifully) and audio input. Also CV / gate ins and outs as well as expression input. They work well with other synths (used and tested)."

"Two sequencer lines from the A-155 Analog/Trigger sequencer, are triggering two A-111 VCO's, which in turn, are being modulated slowly by two A-110 VCO's. The A-111 VCO's are then fed into the A-123 VCF4 highpass filter and the A-120 VCF2 lowpass filter. Both filters cut-off frequencies are being modulated by two A-145 LFO's at different slow rates."

Maestro Rhythm King MRK-4 drum machine

via this auction

"This is an analogue drum machine from the mid 1970s. It uses inductor coils or "tuned tanks" to produce its sound in a similar way to the Roland TR-77 and the Korg Mini-Pops.

It is quite rare especially in the UK and in this condition. All sounds work, all rhythms work and all sliders are nice and crackle-free. There are 10 sounds and 16 rhythms plus an intro/break feature. The rhythms can be combined as is typical with these older 'diode matrix' rhythm units. The two cymbal sounds have various decay amounts depending on the rhythms chosen ranging from a short maracas type sound to open high-hat.

There is a 'modulation' feature that takes an external input and modifies it (probably gating it rhythmically). However, I must stress that I have not been able to test this and the unit is now well and truly boxed-up and ready to go. I have absolutely no reason to suspect that it doesn't work and would be surprised if it didn't, but please assume that it doesn't and bid accordingly, then you won't be disappointed. This unit is first and foremost a drum machine and that part of it is fully working. There is also a multi-pin socket on the back for a foot controller I believe, but I do not have the controller and so haven't been able to test it. I wasn't able to find a service manual on-line so don't know each pin's function."

Powerhouse 8 Track Mellotron Style Tape Drum Machine Rhythm Unit

via this auction

"Sound Sales Inc / Bandmaser Powerhouse 8 Track Drum Machine Rhythm Unit based on similar technology to the mellotron.

Sound Sales Inc. was a company that serviced Mellotrons in the US, and they essentially ended up with the Mellotron inventory and the rights to the Mellotron name after the complicated collapse of the original makers of the Mellotron.
This has no other link with a mellotron and is very different in the fact that it is a Drum machine. It works by playing 8 track tapes at variable speeds to create rhythms. There are 8 Tapes with the unit with various styles like Motown, Samba, Funk, Twist, waltz, Bossa nova, Quickstep, mambo.

The condition of this retro beast is pretty good considering it is over 30 years old. All tapes seem to work although some sound better quality than others which depends how much use they have seen.

this link [Retro Synth Ads] has more details."

"A lovely sounding organ / strings / polysynth . String sound is comparable to the Roland RS 202 and you can build up more complex sounds because of the 3 sections. PItch of the organ/string section can be detuned against the pitch of the polysynth. It contains an excellent ensemble effect in addition to vibrato and tremelo effect. Its a little heavy so best suited for studio use!
The analog section strings/polysynth sound , to me , is very beautiful ; grainy ., a very physical real sound . "
