George Mattson Jamming on EML Electrocomp

Published on Dec 6, 2012 by thepluginguru
"On October 4th I travelled with a good friend towards Seattle to an unmarked home, somewhere in the back of the home is this room where all sorts of amazing electronic instruments are brought to life.... Here is the Maker, jamming for a moment. Oh and when I zoom over to all the Mattson Mini Modulars, those are all being used for what you're hearing as well :D"

No word on what this is.  I'm assuming that's a sawtooth waveform after the "da" and not an "m".

New Richter Oscillator II Coming from Malekko & Giveaway

via Malekko on Facebook

"A MODULE GIVEAWAY? FINALLY!

It might seem like we've been ignoring the synth community, but, uh, you're wrong! We've been working on crazy, missile command-type stuff. Yeah, that's right! Really. Top secret. So don't ask if our digits have blisters…

Anyway, we are giving away a brand-new product! Unlike our last giveaway, this one will be fresh off the line, made one or two days before sending off to the lucky winner.

OK- it's an Oscillator II!

Yes, it's the Richter Oscillator II euro-rack module, featuring the cleanest waveforms in the business!
Built in Portland, OR, the Richter Oscillator II retains all the hallmarks of the original Wiard Oscillator yet includes the new TRI 2 output's super-clean wave and a push-button LFO switch! Refinements on the original are certain to make it a fan favorite across the globe!

Drawing entry is automatic when you share this post on your timeline with all the nerds in your life and "like" this page! The winner will be randomly selected from all entrants on Thursday, December 13th and posted via this Facebook page."

Grant Richter is the man behind Wiard.

ROLAND JUNO-106 SN 480235 with Analogue Renaissance Chips & Wood Sides

via this auction

"It was completely serviced and refurbished in autumn 20012:

- All 6 Voice-Filter-ICs 80017A and all 3 Wave-Generator-ICs MC5534A were replaced by the perfect clones of AnalogueRenaissance.

- All 34 tactical switches on the front panel were replaced by new ones.

- All 16 faders on the frontp panel were replaced by new ones.

- New VOLUME potentiometer.

- New back-up batterie.

- All keyboard contacts were cleaned.

- The whole unit was cleaned and the front panel was polished.

- Calibrated to the specifications of the service manual.

- Loaded with the original Sound-Set.

This JUNO is technically in extreme good conditions and it is prepared to work for many years. With the new voice chips there is no risk for dead voices (which is a well-known problem) and there sound is at least as good as the sound of the original chips. Because of the service there is no worry about jumping voice parameters, bad keyboard action, non-function of switches, cranckling VOLUME pot... Just play and enjoy it!"

"The JP-6 was made from '83-85 and was one of the very first MIDI capable sythns on the market- considered to be one of the best analog synths of all time. Featuring 61 keys and an analog synth engine, the JP-6 has the ability to recreate any sound you hear in your head. 6 voice polyphony, 2 VCO's, a full selection of wave types, arpeggiator, 48 tone/32 patch memory...and much more. Plugging this in, I lost about 2 hours of my work day going through the sounds here. Everything from EVH's '1984' tone to vintage synth sounds to special effects were dialed in in seconds. This Roland has everything you need a knob or slider away. This JP is in excellent condition- tested and works as it should..."

"A unique swiss made 2 oscillator monosynth with very flexible LFO. Capable of TB-303 type basslines with adjustable accent control of the filter, plus a wide variety of other unique tones can be made with this synth. It was the predecessor to the Neptune series, which sound very similar, but they made improvements in the build quality."

CHEETAH MS6

"The MS6's sound engine has a classic two-oscillator structure, each oscillator (DCO, or Digitally Controlled Oscillator, in MS6-speak) offering square, triangle and sawtooth waveshapes, and the second oscillator also featuring a noise option. The DCOs both have coarse-tuning controls, and DCO B can be fine-tuned, too. DCO A may also be synced to DCO B for creating sharp sync basses and leads.
Pulse width is independently adjustable for each DCO, and can be modulated via a dedicated 'DCO PWM Rate' parameter. This means that you don't have to tie up the main LFO for pulse-width modulation, leaving that free for pitch or filter duties. Another nice touch is that the synth's envelopes can be used to control the mix between DCO A and B.

In all, I'd say the MS6's source section is versatile and varied. But its 24dB/octave low-pass filters, offering cutoff-frequency and resonance parameters, with LFO, envelopes, key follow and aftertouch selectable as modulation sources, are really something special, as befits an instrument with Curtis chips at its heart.

If the name Curtis rings a bell, it's because Curtis chips are also used in Oberheim synths, and Sequential instruments including the post-1980 Prophet 5s. The Curtis package used here is the CEM3396, essentially a synth-on-a-chip, as found in the Oberheim Matrix 6/6R and Matrix 1000. This replaces the independent Curtis VCO, VCF and EG chips, employed in more expensive polysynths, with a single chip, resulting in a much more cost-effective arrangement that still carries that trademark Curtis sound."

MC-202 + x0xb0x + MFB-522

Published on Dec 6, 2012 by idesignsound
Drums come in at 3:20.

"I bought this MC-202 from eBay a couple of days ago, and I am hooked already. Should have bought one years ago! A lot of people seem to think it's difficult to use the sequencer but after a couple of hours it's become second nature. You just need to slow down a little and think about what your doing and do a some math to make sure your lengths tally up.

I didn't buy this to emulate a TB-303 but it can easily be done. As long as you don't use any parameters that the 303 didn't have. So don't use sustain, use a fast attack, and a little release. You can use Env Amount, Decay, Filter, and Res as long as you don't move the sliders to the extremes. You can tie notes and add portamento to produce a similar slide effect.

The video is a bit long (as is this description LOL) but if you get as far as the last few minutes you'll here my x0xb0x coming in. They work together really nicely :-) The drums are from an MFB-522 (listening back they are a bit quiet)."

Elektron Analog Four acid/techno jam

"Making some acid techno sounds with Elektron Analog Four + Machinedrum. The MD plays the drums, and is run through the A4 analog ladder filter, with some overdrive and tempo-synced LFO-modulations to make it more dirty. Some 303-like bass sounds are sequenced by the A4 on top of the drums."

Tubemaster: ZIMM03

Published on Dec 6, 2012 by Wein Glas

"Buchla Skylab and Zerosum Inertia ZIMMs: What a great combination!
This video features the never before seen ZIMM03 Tube Module from Zerosum Inertia!"

Update: Details via Zerosum

"The ModuleModule #3 built by Zerosum Inertia takes 2 audio signals and processes each through a separate grid on 1 single 5725 dual-control pentode.

Each input has a different sound due to the different grid for each input. When both inputs are used the two signals become one and create a unique overdriven combination different than that of a conventional mixer or signal combiner.

The result of using both grids results in multiplication.

For a dizzying effect, feed 2 detuned oscillators beating against eachother into the ZIMM03 and observe the summed effect.

A single VTL5C3 vactrol provides CV for the amount of processing.

The slew of the vactrol controlled gain creates a unique VCA type effect different than that of a traditional solid state VCA.

Experiment with sending pulses into the CV input and leave the AD generators free for other duties.

To the left is an independant 1 in 2 out multiple. Experiment with splitting 1 signal source, then processing the 2 outputs through inputs 1 and 2 of the ZIMM03. Or experiment with creating feedback. A mult is a mult.

The 1/4" jack on the top mirrors the Tini-Jax output. Try feeding the 1/4" output to an effects processor and the Tini-Jax to other modules.

Or use the the 1/4" output to feed your mixer without having to convert a Tini-Jax to 1/4"."
