Random Reaktor Stuff 05

Published on Nov 8, 2013 BrontoScorpioMusic·6 videos

"Yay! Another Reaktor jam!

The rate of the trigger sequencer gets modulated by the rate sequencer while the sample sequencer chooses which samples gets triggered.
The sequencer then triggers the choosen sample and sends triggers to the "Trigger Counter".

The "Trigger Counter" simply counts the incoming triggers and triggers the kick on each event, the snare on every fifth event and so on.
The synth and sub voice choose a different pitch from some predefined values on each trigger.
The sub voice (which is a simple triangle wave) also gets "ducked" by the kick.

The sampler gets processed by the "Sound Destruction" instrument, which gets modulated by some recursive LFOs.

The whole thing then goes through some light EQ and saturation."

Drum Box: Korg Electribe ER-1

Published on Nov 8, 2013 my4trackmachine·110 videos

"In the late 90's Korg came out with the Electribe series marketed to groove box producers seeking an affordable setup. One of these boxes turned out to be the ER-1, a quite capable analog modeling drum machine. If you couldn't afford a 909, 808, or other such classics this was not a bad way to go. With the ER-1's fully programable and automatable features you could get some unique sounds not heard of by other machines. The sequencer was built after the Roland TR series making it a highly intuitive and powerful little box that you can get for a decent price even today."

"I'm not a big fan of covers, but one of the factory sequences loaded into the MicroBrute is reminiscent of Les Chants Magnetiques Pt. IV by Jean Michel Jarre and it's only appropriate to do a quick demo of a couple of French synthesizers with a French composer/synthesist's song. I've got the MicroBrute running through the Strymon TimeLine (dTape mode, of course) and the MiniBrute running through the Big Sky (Cloud mode). Apologies for the sloppy playing, it's not easy to play with a tripod right up next to you."

Beetle PR-7 Rare Programming Module for Yamaha TX-7 SN 001094

via this auction

"Back in the early 1980s there was an adventurous startup in the Los Angeles area by the name of Beetle Inc., founded by a couple of very smart electrical engineers who were making advanced computerized musical equipment. That is, until Yamaha forced them out of business with threats of lawsuits. But not before they managed to get a small number of unique products into the marketplace, including the PR-7 programming module. This device connects to the Yamaha TX-7 FM synthesis module via two midi cables and controls it with exactly the same functionality as the control panel of the Yamaha DX-7. Excellent condition. See separate listing for the companion TX-7 module."

You can see one in action here. Apparently this works with the TX216 and TX816 as well.

"This is probably one of the best Odyssey's that is out there, modified by famous ARP Technician, Phil Cirocco. This synth has been personally modified by him and includes the rear and sought after the Moog style filter. The ADSR turbo switch gives a faster attack when engaged creating harder bass and percussive sounds... The Absolute Best basses and leads and unique sounds can be created with a sonic depth that you just can not get anywhere else. This unit has also been updated with a midi interface made by Synhouse which includes the following functions listed below ... Please note that this modification Does not affect the use of the control voltage interface. I originally bought the unit with retrofitted patch point inserts for each module, if you look closely you will see them. I never added the modification to making this unit modular. Comes with copied manual and original Arp Pedal to Control Filter.

Synhouse Midi Jack:

A complete list of the 12 functions of the Original MIDIJACK:
MIDI channel selection (to select MIDI reception channel 1-16)

CLUB MALIBU' - Les Chic Voltage

Published on Nov 8, 2013 jerry dibella·27 videos

Minimoog Voyager bass gets the post.

"This is a track I made entirely from scratch (as usual...) using just analog and hardware synthesizers. For the bass synth part I've used a Minimoog Voyager. On the Sweep pad synth there's a Roland Juno 60 (also a little arpeggio part in the middle bridge of the song...); I also used a Roland D-50 for some other poly synth pad, and a Korg M1 in the bridge (middle part of the song...). All of the drums & percussion I made in Logic Studio with Ultrabeat sampler, with my Frankenstein Drums kit. The title has been placed at random...at the time of the composition I was playing with GTA Vice City, and in the video game there is a place called "Club Malibu'"...sorry for the little imagination!

The music store has since closed and after filming the demo, my son (he was running the camera...) caught pneumonia, After days of staying at home with him and trips to the doctor, I forgot all about the video.

The Best Buy guys were pretty cool, as I visited them because their store was right around the corner from my work and they were nice enough to let me do a demo as long as I gave them a shout out.

Better late then never, but you guys were awesome!

And my son is now fine BTW.

Spooky Sounds - Published on Nov 8, 2013
Create a supernatural soundtrack.

In this circuit, the peak knob has a large effect on what the cutoff knob does. It emphasizes certain frequencies and creates a "peak" at these frequencies. If the peak is turned all the way up, the emphasis can be strong enough to increase the loudness of the sound and in some cases create an oscillation.

Tuning - Published on Nov 8, 2013
Tuning is the relationship between the pitches in a musical instrument. Instruments need to be "tuned" and a synthesizer is no different. by tuning instruments, you can create "melodies" that are recognizable.
The tuning dial on the oscillator bits module will alter the relationship between pitches. This will be important when using the keyboard and micro sequencer.

Beats and Base - Published on Nov 8, 2013
Create a bass line with LFO filter sweeps and a drum beat.

8 Step Sequence - Published on Nov 8, 2013
Using additional modules from the littleBits library such as the latch and inverter, two micro sequencers can be used to create an 8 step sequence.

Filtering Noise: Create a unique sound using the filter module - Published on Nov 8, 2013
The filter is known as a low-pass filter. This means that frequencies higher than a certain point will be reduced or filtered out. When the peak is increased and the cutoff is adjusted the timbral effect can sounds like a person making vowel like sounds.

Key Player: Learn how to play notes on the keyboard - Published on Nov 8, 2013
A synthesizer is commonly controlled with a keyboard similar to a piano. Each key creates a voltage that represents a note. Since a synthesizer is electronic, it is not limited to the same notes a piano can play.

Frequency Modulation: Discover how two oscillators interact - Published on Nov 8, 2013
An oscillator can produce a frequency that is too low to be perceived as a pitch. In this case it is known as an LFO or low frequency oscillator. Because the oscillator in your kit can be both low frequency or audio range, you can turn up the frequency of one oscillator and feed it into another oscillator to create "frequency modulation".

White Noise: Experience the random module - Published on Nov 8, 2013
The random module has two modes and one of them is called "noise". Un-pitched sound is generally categorized as noise or a collection of many frequencies that are not distinguishable from one another. Unlike a waveform, noise has no repeating pattern.

Echo and Delay: Learn how to make infinite repeating sounds with the delay - Published on Nov 8, 2013
The delay affects the sound but unlike the filter, its primary function is not to add or subtract from the original sound but to reproduce it. Think of it as an echo in a large room or cave. You make a sound, and that sound gets repeated for some amount of time depending on how big the space is.

Shape Your Sounds: Experiment with the envelope - Published on Nov 8, 2013
The envelope of a sound has a big effect on the character of the sound. The controls on the envelope Bits module are "attack" and "decay".

ATTACK - Attack is how long it takes the sound to get to its loudest point
DECAY - Decay is how long it takes the sound to fade to silence.
