via the seller: "it's in absolutely mint condition. No scratches or wear to speak of. Plays like new and was just fully serviced and calibrated by Tim at Portland Custom Shop in Portland, OR. This Juno is in 100% working condition. It's the next model in the Juno line after the Juno-60. I have done side-by-side comparisons and like the 106 better. Both are very powerful analog synthesizers with patch memory storage."

Gieskes 317VCPreA Walkman Driver for Eurorack

Published on May 6, 2015 ggijs

via http://gieskes.nl/eurorack/?file=317VCPreA

"The module is designed for connecting walkmans to eurorak (but it can also do other things, read below)

pre amp

about: The pre amp used is a burr brown OPA2134 in two stages with melf metal film 1% resistors for low noise. Low noise is not realy needed for use with a walkman.. because they are quite noisy, but if you want to use it with other things like piezo elements or a guitar you can also use it to preamplify those.

A: The audio input is a Stereo 3.5mm jack input (all other jacks are mono jacks). It is Capacitor coupled. The tip of the connector goes to the pre amp, The sleeve goes to the 1VOctave tracking system.
If the volume goes above 1.4v PP it will be cut of by clipping diodes, the output can still reach the rails of the opamp on the output stage.

B: The audio output is Capacitor coupled. The output can be 10v PP, depending on the input.

C: CV input for controlling the audio output volume.
It takes 10v PP (adjust it up/down with E).
The circuit uses a vactrol, the curve it makes is anti log.. so it is somewhere between a gate and a pre amp.

D: Attenuation for the audio input signal.

E: Audio output volume. Moves CV input up or down.

317 regulator controller

F: CV input for adjusting L

G: Sets amount of offset from ground for L

H: 1v Octave input (the sleave of conector A is used for tracking information)
Range is 0v to 5v (the actualy octave range depends on the connected device, usualy the range is 2 to about 4 octaves).

M: Adjusts voltage of F.

L: Set voltage of output from I (317 output).

.: (small dot connected to M) 1v octave offset, 1 octave range, from C to C (that is the musical note C. Use a 2mm flat screw driver to adjust).

K: Activate 1v Octave tracking.

Adjustment menu for 1V Octave tracking:

Hold the button while powering up (keep holding it for about 5 seconds.)
The led in the button will blink when you let go of the button, if you push the button it will blink 1 time more, until you reach 7 blinks, then it will reset to 0 blinks, and you can go round again.
If you hold the button for 2 seconds you will enter the next menu.
There are 3 settings you can change. after exiting the last settings menu your changes will be saved and used the next time you powerup the module.
Change the settings for how you feel the device you connected works best.

adjusts the rise in frequency tracking (7 blinks is maximum).
adjusts the fall in frequency tracking (7 blinks is maximum).
adjusts the smoothnes in low voltage range (0 blinks is most stable (if lower then 2 blinks is used here, it can overshoot and get stuck, so its best to use at least 2 blinks here)).

317 regulator

about: This section is optically separated from the rest of the modular. This means the ground is not connected to the eurorack system and the power is also not connected to the eurorack system.
This is designed for driving small DC motors in walkmans, but you can also connect other things to it.. for instance a LED light or power a complete device with it.

I: 317 voltage regulator output. The output voltage is from 0v to above 0v. The actual output voltage depends on the power supply you connect to it. Maximum current draw is 500ma.

J: DC + in the center, maximum 12v DV input. It is advised to keep the input voltage between 6v and 9v, i use 7.5v If the input voltage is 12v the voltage regulator will get hotter then if you connect a lower voltage. the less hot it gets the longer it will fuction. Heat can also cause the output voltage to change (mainly because the vactrol can heat up)"

Founder of Analogue Systems, Bob Williams, Retires - Systems to Continue

In via Synthtopia, via Amazona.de, it appears Bob Williams of Analogue Systems has retired. There is some good news though. The product range will continue on.

Googlish translation:

"Bob Williams, founder and mastermind of Analogue Systems, retires for age reasons from active business life. But the Modular System will get us thanks to Andreas Schneider.

Bob Williams developed around the same time as Dieter Doepfer, but fully independent and unknowingly from him, an analog modular system in 3U format, which was originally called RS-integrator and was also presented as the A-100 in 1995. The first modules were extracts of the filter bank FB-3, later followed also modules under license by EMS as an octave filter bank, the trapezoid generator and switchable between two circuits EMS filter.

Alex4, the distribution of Andreas Schneider (yes, the one with the spectacular Super Booth on each Musikmesse) has now taken over from Bob Williams the inventory of modules, keyboards and cases. And of course, the product range will be produced, with the exception of some modules for the various components are no longer available..."

The Pollux MiMi-a Polyphonic Synthesizer Resource Page

Some of you might remember the rare Pollux MiMi-a Polyphonic Synthesizer from the demo video posted here and the Synth Gathering Sweden post here. The MiMi-a was a six voice analog polyphonic hardware synthesizer from Ricard Wanderlöf in 1987.

Swissdoc wrote in to let us know he found the resource page for the MiMi-a. According to that page: "The MiMi-a is a microprocessor controlled six-voice multitimbral analog MIDI synthesizer that I built (mostly) during the spring of 1987. That makes it ... wow ... over 20 years ago ...
Each voice is mostly analog; all signal processing is analog, with the envelope generators and LFO's being partly digital, as well as the oscillator front-ends. This makes for a warm analog sound while at the same time retaining digital precision for the envelope and LFO timing, and oscillator frequencies.

Each voice consists of:
Two oscillators, A and B, each with an adjustable range of six octaves, with sawtooth, pulse and square waveforms, as well as combinations of these, as well as two ring-modulator-type waveforms. Oscillator A can be hard-synced to oscillator B.
A combined sub-oscillator/noise generator (oscillator C).
A Moog-type -24dB/octave voltage controlled lowpass filter with voltage controlled resonance.
A linear/exponential VCA.
Three ADSSR envelope generators, one for the filter, one for the VCA and one assignable.
One syncable LFO."

See the resource page for additional details including pics of the inside and demos.

The vintage analog drum machine was overhauled by X-Tended, the official repair service of Jomox 2011. Total service and upgrade costs with EPROM and new PCBs: 550.- € (see bill in the photo section) !!!

XBase 09 SE was used only in the studio! Killer Analog TR-909 clone with analog kick, analog snare and various 8-bit samples (TR-909, Clap, HH, crash, many different percussion, contains all the original samples from Jomox JazBase 03).

Fantastic Sequencer with Pattern Chain, Individual Steps, individual parameters (eg shuffle) for each step ...
I only sell because I also have the very rare Jazbase 03 :-)

The XBase 09 SE is cosmetically in good condition with slight marks from using (see photos) The red screen protector is slightly curved inwards, but has no effect on the LEDs. but more important, technically the XBase is 09 SE in excellent condition for their age! see pictures and YT video: [above]"

Papernoise Thomas Henry Mega Percussive Synthesizer Panel Coming to Synthcube

via Papernoise

"You might remember that I started to work on a panel design for the Thomas Henry Mega Percussive Synthesizer (over a year ago). Unfortunately the project hit several road blocks and I never got around actually making the panel. I tried to get a control PCB made with 3 different people, but each time there were some problems and we had to put things on standby.

The waiting might be over though! Thanks to a guy who goes on the name Barcode on Muff Wiggler we’ll have a control PCB very soon!

Synthcube will be officially selling these and the control PCB:

to tie this all together, we are happy to say that we will be offering the MPS PCBs, kurodama will be designing an aluminum panel using barcode’s panel PCB layout, and we will offer those as well as barcode’s panel PCB and panel! So you’ll have a lot of choices in terms of how to build up your euro MPS!"

Skeleton Keys by Steve Roach - Synthesizers.com Album

"There’s a worldwide analog modular synthesizer resurgence in full swing. Pioneering electronic musician Steve Roach taps into the zeitgeist on Skeleton Keys, a 74-minute album recorded using the Synthesizers.com large format analog modular synthesizer/sequencer-based system. These are eight emotional and mind-expanding spiraling mandalas-of-sound made from interwoven tapestries of melody, rhythm, tone and musical space.

'Skeleton Keys connects directly to my first love in electronic music,' Steve Roach explains. 'This form of music creates a living portal to a unique place in consciousness, emotion, body awareness and expansion of perception. It’s a place that can only be reached by way of this genre and these instruments, in particular the sequencer: a tool common within electronic music since early in its inception. I have been obsessed with the sound this instrument facilitates since my arrival as a composer in the late 70′s.'

With the availability of a new era of hardware instrument builders to draw from, in early 2014 Steve set out to create his ideal large format modular synthesizer/sequencer-based system.

'My intention was single-minded,' Steve says, 'to make these ‘Keys’ in particular. The instant this system was in place, the compulsion to create was unleashed. Each piece on this release is an aural skeleton key providing entry through these arcane doors to what awaits inside. In addition, the momentum of my life’s experience was vital in helping turn the skeleton key to open these doors at this precise moment.'

Steve’s artistic path is filled with new discoveries, both nuanced and dramatic. He brings to the table years of dedication and experience exploring sound via hands-on synthesis.

With the sense of an artist working in three dimensional space, Steve’s skill set creates an album that breathes power, passion and vital life energy. On Skeleton Keys Steve connects to the European EM masters at the roots of his electronic heritage while simultaneously mapping the soundworld of today’s contemporary technology-based music. The result is warm and engaging retro-futurism, a continuing evolution upon the musical structures Steve has unlocked in the restless pursuit of his soundquest."
