Kim Wilde - Kids In America

Published on Published on Sep 1, 2012 KimWildeOfficialHD

A cover of this showed up in a movie I just watched, so of course I remembered it and had to look up the original. Love this stuff. I didn't expect the synth spotting, but there it was. Also, never featured Kim Wilde on the site before now. Enjoy!

Update: and "live" version:

Kim Wilde - Kids in America (1981)

Published on Oct 9, 2012 Julian Hiti

"Very rare tv show promo. AVRO's 'TopPop' was the first weekly pop program broadcast on Dutch television. It ran from September 22, 1970 to June 27, 1988.

"TopPop" was mainly filled with pop artists in the top pop studio, playing to their latest hit. During the years of 1970-1974, 1978-1981 and 1986-1988, the artists were selected by the choice of the Viewer. In the years 1974-1978 and 1981-1986, the National Charts were used instead.

The Duck Vintage SSM Based Analog DIY Keyboard Synth from the 1980s

This one was spotted and sent in via swissdoc. It appears to be a one off SSM based DIY synth built sometime between 1981 and 1986. You'll find some info and demos on Technology Trendline here. I believe this is the first time it has been featured here on MATRIXSYNTH.

"This keyboard was the manual from a Conn electric organ recovered from a fire and found in the rafters of a pipe and reed organ manufacturer in Hicksville, NY. The keyboard scanner is built from discreet logic producing a monophonic last-note-played algorithm. The circuits were all hand-wired on prototype boards. The sound-producing technology is primarily based on a suite of chips manufactured by Solid State Micro Technology (SSMT)."

"Power up the synths, turn off the lights and get out the headlamp. All the parts to this track was sequenced using sounds from the analog synths and samples from the MPC2500. Hope you enjoy.

This track is available as a free download on my bandcamp page."

Enjoy the synth spotting.

wireless audiocubes visualization in synthor #2

Published on Mar 12, 2016 AudioCubes by PERCUSSA

"in this video we show the new network visualisation feature of the wireless audiocubes, together with synthor, our new digital modular synth which is included for free with every audiocubes system."

"For those of you who don’t know SYNTHOR yet, it’s a modular synthesizer application we're working on for the AudioCubes. It lets you patch simply by placing wireless AudioCubes next to each other. By changing the distance between the cubes, the amplitude of the modulation signals between the modules can be changed. This allows the user to patch wirelessly and change synthesis parameters simultaneously, simply by moving cubes relative to each other. SYNTHOR is currently in BETA and available for free download on our website.

The cube network visualization feature which we integrated into SYNTHOR lets users visualize the location and orientation of the AudioCubes in the network. As you can see in the video below, each time a cube is added or removed from the network the changes are automatically reflected in the visualization window.

We're planning a patch recall feature, such that if you load a preset file in MIDIBridge containing all SYNTHOR settings, the connections between the cubes and distance will also be recalled, which lets you continue with your modular synth patch and cube setup where you stopped the day before, a feature that’s not or rarely available on traditional hardware modular synthesizers."

BURG - Album Movement 08 (Nord Lead A1, KORG ms-20, JX-03, TR-8)

Published on Mar 12, 2016 ollilaboratories

"If you like my stuff, please support me on

This track is inspired by the artist that has meant the most for me in my musical career. Not an single tune passes by in my studio, without me thinking about the master of electronic music, Jean-Michel Jarre... this is my hommage to him and his music. Thank you for all the inspiration throughout the years...!

Its a melody that talks to me about day dreaming, and taking off into the skies... free like a bird.

Clearly the NLA1 pads are a bit low at times (chord progressions cant really be heard at times), this is something i can fix in the 16 track post mix if this track makes the short list for the album. Also this is a bit more stripped down and less 4 on the floor style.. i wanted some counterbalance to the darker tunes. Also, there is a minor glitch on one spot.. but the melodies and solos felt so great on this first take.. so i wanted to keep it. Enjoy! :)

Gear Used: KORG volca sample, Elektron Analog Four, Roland Aira TR-8, System-1, Roland boutique JX03, Nord Lead A1, arturia microbrute, SQ-1 (playing a track on the NLA1), TB-3.

FX and Mixer: PreSonus StudioLive 16.0.2, KORG kaoss pad, SolidgoldFX electroman, Zoom MS70 CDR"

"Near mint Twisted-Electrons Therapsid synthesizer with 6581 SID chip installed. See the official website for videos, sound demos and more information. Comes with 15V power supply.

The SID chip is genuine as far as I can tell (I haven't opened the synth to confirm) with all the lovely, weird quirks it has.

This synth was built in December 2015, has only been used for a few hours in a clean home studio and handled gently."

Cycle Dub - A eurorack modular synthesizer patch.

Published on Mar 11, 2016 Luke Killen

"Cycle Dub is a Deep, self running dub. The bassline is a modulated Mutable Instruments Braids in FM mode to push out some deep and clean sub Bass frequencies.

The rhythm is a simple set of triggers coming from a Delphtronics trigger man. The triggerman is clocked by one channel of a 4MS QCD which is being modulated by a Xoac Tirana which is clocked from a Abstract Data AED32. the ADE32 is reseting the Tirana every once in a while and also reversing it every so often.

The pitched snare is from a modulated Noise Engineering Basimilus Iteratus.

Hats are noise from a Steady State Fate Ultra-Random Analog filtered through a Intellijel uVCF which is being modulated by a Make Noise Maths.

The Maths provides an EG for the hat's envelope. The left channel of the Maths also modulates the Timbre input of the Braids with a short attack and release envelope.

A mutable instruments Rings provides one of the the two sound effects. It is filtered through a WMD/SSF Pole Zero and is ducked using an inverted envelope output from a Frequency Central X envelope. The trigger follows that of the kick which is a Mutable Instruments Peaks.

The hats are also ducked by the X envelope.

The other effect sound is a Mannequins Mangrove frequency modulated by A WMD/SSF Spectrum, which is modulated on the 1v/oct by a Make noise Rene and a Tiptop z8000 via an Intellijel uScale 2. (One on the Input and one on the Transpose).

Reverb and Delay are provided by Plugins live in the DAW."

Roland Boutique Trio - JX03, JU06, JP08, and a Korg Minilogue - Ensoniq EPS16+

Published on Mar 11, 2016 Earmonkey Music

"This video features all three Roland Boutique modules. I used my Ensoniq EPS 16+ and mapped each unit across the keyboard. the JX is on MIDI channel 1, the JU on 2, and the JP on 3. The Ensoniq allows you to split the keyboard across the units and the MIDI channels. The Korg Minilogue is playing a simple sequence and it is running through a Roland RE-301 tape delay. The Boutiques get their FX from their internal chorus (or dual mode split for the JP08), and I added some Valhalla reverb and delay. This is a very cool combo and a fun way to play all three units live from one keyboard. The Ensoniq will sequence each unit too if I wanted, and I may try that at some point. Enjoy"
