The Initial Designs of the Alesis Andromeda A6 by Axel Hartmann

The second render reminds me of the Alesis Quadrasynth.

This one in via Soviet Space Child.

"On the subject of the Alesis Andromeda, Axel Hartmann posted these on his facebook a few days back:

Anytime, I see the Andromeda popping up at FB, I remember the days, 20 years ago, when we have been working on this Mega synth together with the Alesis team around Erik Norlander and Rob Rampley. The working technique was a bit different from today back then . . . It was the time, when we have just been exploring the possibilities of 3D modeling. As most of the work of designing a user interface can happen in 2D, we have been using Freehand, to arrange the functional elements. We then built huge 1:1 cardboard mockups, to check the layout. I am still keeping these in the lowest drawer of our big paper Schrank, that we only use to keep these kind of memories today. I thought; - maybe, it is cool, to share these memories with all of you here . . . To me, the Andromeda has been the pinnacle of Analog synthesizers "of the past". . .

There was some accompanying text to these as well:

JX-O5 by SpotlightKid

"This is a little weekend jam to get to know my relatively new Roland JX-03 Boutique synth better. All sounds (incl. SFX) are from the JX-03, except drums, which are sequenced with Roland CR-78 samples in the DAW. Multi-tracked with about 15 different tracks and my own custom sounds and two presets sounds (sync lead and vibe).

Recorded with Tracktion 7 DAW on Linux. Zita-Reverb (LADSPA), Tracktion Delay, EQ and MasterMix Multi-Band Compressor.

Synth Rorschach #48: MULTICS is ALIVE - booting MR12.6e 6180 emulation

Published on Feb 19, 2017 Redmartian

"This panel came from the University of Michigan and likely hasn't been driven this way in well over 20 years. Here we see the 6180 Multics emulator reading the switches set on the panel to 024000717200 and the initialize button been pressed to boot the virtual machine. The 6180 Maintenance Panel is being driven by a Xilinx BASYS3 which in run drives two logic boards that are cabled into the 6180 panel wiring harness. All switches and lamps are available to the emulator and you can dial through the scroll to check the various states of the machine. Once Multics has booted you'll see the famous Idle Pattern (or snake). Multics lives once again!"

Reminds me of Digisound meets EMS, meets something else I forget at the moment.

"Euphonics 1984" - Yamaha Rs-7000, Prophet 6, DW-8000, Minilogue

Published on Feb 19, 2017

"'Euphonics 1984'

Recorded live on February 14, 2017 using a Yamaha RS-7000 MIDI Sequencer and a room full of synths.
The original insipiration started with the Korg DW-8000 and its smooth sounding filter with a plucky guitar-like patch and two other patches. It made up the earliest parts of this piece. Later the Prophet '08 accompanied with brass pads. The Korg DW-6000 embelished melodies in the 4th part. The Novation BassStation II was responsible for all bass duties. 4 patches were used and a lot of automation was applied to modulate its volumes, filters and other parameters. The Art Tube Channel handled its dynamics with a tiny bit of eq. Later the Sequential Prophet 6 was added filling in various bits including melodic accompaniment and a delicious filtered sweep in the 4th part. The Sequential Prophet 6 had six patch changes and was used throughout the entire arrangement. The Electribe EMX played the vintage drum sounds and was assisted by various percussive noises on the Korg Radias and Roland XV-5080. The drum bus was ran through the Alesis 3630 Compressor. The Korg MS-2000 sang the vocal piece in the 1st part using its VOX oscillator mode and later played a high frequency patch in the final measures. The Korg Minilogue played several melodic parts throughout as well as some FX. The Roland JP-8080 played pads from beginning to end. The Roland Boutique JX-03 accompanied a number of melodic notes in the 1st, 2nd and 4th parts. A Mackie 1604-VLZ3 and a pair of racked line mixers connected everything including a number of compressors and outboard effects. The Art Pro VLA II had a lot to do with the overall sound. The video was shot with a Panasonic Lumix LX7 and was edited in Corel VideoStudio Ultimate x9.

Interesting look at the cost of repairing the synth below.

"Acquired in 1998 in San Francisco, this Arp was fully restored by SynthPro in 2014. Fully functional, perfect working order. Even had the bushing in the keyboard replaced to make the action smooth. A great Arp if you're looking for an Arp!

2104 work done below:

Problems:
1. Broken slider switch for OSC1 LFO PWM
2. Broken slider switch for OSC2 LFO FM
3. Chassis missing all screws
4. Slider pots stuck, needs cleaning
5. bad key contacts along with bad key bushings
6. KB CV memory drifting
7. bad 100k ohm slider for OSC1 S/H-ADSR frequency control

Solutions:
1. Replace broken slider switch for OSC1 LFO PWM
2. Replace broken slider switch for OSC2 LFO FM
3. Install new chassis screws
4. complete chassis, circuit board, and slider cleaning and slider re-greasing
5. Replace key contacts
6. Replace C8 along with stressed transistor
7. Replace 100k ohm slider for OSC1 S/H-ADSR frequency control
8. replace commonly failure components to prevent failures

Now for the parts list:

Slider switches = $2.00 each X 2 = $4.00

Chassis screws, (size 6-32 X 1/2 ) = $1.98 pack of 12 = $1.98

Chassis screws, (size M4- .70 X10) = $0.56 pack of 2 = $0.56

Key bushings = $1.08 X 37 = $1.08 each = $39.96

100k ohm slider pot = $25.00 each X 1 = $25.00

Transistor = $10.00 each X 1 = $10.00

.47uF @ 100V film cap = $3.19 each X 1 = $3.19

1uF @ 35V Tantalum cap = $0.43 each X 4 = $1.72

22uF @ 16V tantalum cap = $1.72 each X 1 = $1.72

10uF @35V tantalum cap = $1.05 each X 4 = $4.20

3.3uF @25V tantalum cap = $1.16 each X 2 = $2.32

250uF @ 50V electrolytic cap = $3.42 each X 2 = $6.84

Key Contacts $0.00

PARTS TOTAL= $101.49

Labor = $30.00 an hour X 13 hours = $390.00"

"For sale is an an Electro-Harmonix DRM32 vintage drum machine in pedal form. This is an incredibly rare item and if you are looking for one you probably are aware that they don't show up for sale too often, and you may have already been waiting a few years to find one. Apparently Moby's favorite drum machine. It's cool for retro 70s 80s style beats and is definitely a collector's item. It's in nice shape, be sure to check out pictures to make sure you like it. Fully functional."

DRUM PAD PLUGGED UP TO A 2000 VOLT JACOBS LADDER

Published on Feb 19, 2017 LOOK MUM NO COMPUTER

"It had to be done! wiring up a 2000 Volt Jacobs Ladder to a drum pad to make it musical!

kind of sounds like a special effects crash or something. but With ADDED SPARKS.

Built from a microwave. and some tinfoil. its definately a bit of a hack. and tends to overheat and smoke! wait for the end to see the fireworks.

completely live. on a home built Modular synth... the drum pads on the top trigger kick and snare. and 2 completely seperate synth voices for each of the 2 synth notes. these go into an arduino powered beat recorder. so only had to play the riff once and it automatically records it and re plays it, planning on doing a how to of that soon for people who want to build one. ran out of drum pads so used 2 toy drums with piezo mics glues onto them. there is a footswitch too which turns on an extra channel which the bass goes through an electro harmonix POG and some distortion for extra dynamic bits.

middle part is just a delay that one of the toy drum pads was going through. the great thing with the pt2399 delay is it stops working if the voltage goes too low. so the extreme end of the knob twist just shuts down the delay, making it great to turn on and off quickly and easily.

The Jacobs ladder was just mic'd up. tried keeping it as far away from the modular as possible to isolate the awesome sound it makes. but inevitably theres some bleed from the noise drum pads."

Enjoy ! d^^b"

The K3/m is not technically a wavetable synth. It has digital waveforms like the KORG DW synths, but does not have wavetables you can scan through like PPG and Waldorf synths. In essence the K3 is closer to PCM based ROMplers than wavetable synths.
