CASIO CZ-101 synth with 4-bank cartridge and soft case

via this auction

"I am the original owner of this small but powerful synth. It has been well cared for and works great. Comes with a very rare MAARTISTS MRA-3 64 voice RAM memory cartridge (four banks of 16) so you are not stuck with just the 16 internal storge slots for your own sounds.

This great little synths uses PD (phase distortion) synthesis which is having a revival in many iPad synths. It uses multiple 8-stage envelopes, which, if you know about synths, is a pretty big deal. It also has a versatile LFO, a noise generator and a built in ring modulator. This little synth is easy to program and with a little time learning the ropes, you’ll be able to create some really outstanding and unique sounds.

The four octave keyboard has eight note polyphony and the synth engine is four-part multitimbral (four different sounds at once when used with a sequencer or external controller). It does not have velocity or aftertouch. But don’t let that stop you! This portable (battery powered!) synth is a monster. There are even pegs on the ends to attach a guitar strap so you can dance around while you play!"

Roland RS-09 Organ Strings

via this auction

"This is a Roland RS-09 Organ/Strings Rev 3 keyboard in good condition. Manufactured circa 1980.

It has recently been serviced with a brand new US voltage transformer professionally installed. All functions work well including the external input to the chorus (a super cool feature of this instrument). Graphics are clear and bright. The top metal panel has a slight warping on the right side near the tuning pot and Ensemble switch. The metal panel is thin there, and I think it's just bent down a bit over time. See the last two photos to get the best sense of this.

The original case is included which shows a bit of wear but is still quite functional for local transport and storage of the unit."

Modcon Synth Event Tomorrow in Austria

via Synth Anatomy

"The Modcon in Vienna should not be a place to get to know the manufacturers and their modules better, but also to get an insight into the European modular scene. If you want to get to know musicians who also loves cables, knobs and synthetic sounds then you are absolutely right here.

The convention is not only aimed at experienced modular musicians, but also for absolute beginners. Throughout the day various workshops take place where you can solder some modules yourself. A list of available modules and the correspond prices can be found on the official ModCon Facebook page.

Food and drink are provided on site. If the daily program is not enough, the evening program should not be missed. Various artists will then enter the WUK's stage with their modular crates and perform there. An absolute recommendation if you want to experience modular musicians live. The following artists will perform:
LIN/LOG (Germany)
Hren (Austria)
zv_k (Germany)
DL/MS (Austria)
DJ Soulglo (Austria)

The daily program is free of charge and the convention is open from 10 a.m until 7.pm. The concerts in the evening starts at 10 p.m and cost 10€ (Early-bird) and 15€ (box office)."

USING TIPTOP AUDIO ONE TO SPICE UP YOUR DRUMS ~ Feat. Korg SQ-1 + Volca Beats

Published on May 12, 2017 once upon a synth

"Exploring various percussion applications with the TipTop Audio One eurorack sample player module. We explore ways to add variation to your drum sounds by utilizing the CV control over the sample being played. So if you load the module with a bunch of hi-hat sounds you can get some interesting rhythms by randomly selecting different variations of hi-hats. We also explore loading other kinds of percussion sets. The idea is to load the module with either variations of the same sound or a complete drum kit and then using various CV signals to cycle through these sounds to spice up your drums."

DIY Semimodular Analog Synthesizers

These were spotted and sent in via Florian Anwander. If anyone knows if there is more info out there on these aside from what's listed in the auctions, let us know. Giving them a tuberetrosound label for now as that is the seller's name on eBay.

The top system is via this auction

"Offer DIY analog synthesizer, playable as Synthe bass with built-in + switch by 1 octave transponable keyboard or via external CV / gate control over 7 octaves playable. Soundhammer with 2 x DIODE LADDER VCF and 2 parametric filters."

The second via this auction

"Sell analog synthesizer module with SEQUENZER and analog drumsounds, built as an inexperienced experimental system. Inputs 2 x CV (1VOLT / OKTAVE and GATE 0 VOLT and 5 to 12 VOLT). Outputs Stereo.
Stability after 10 minutes, 24 db cascade filter.
All the details are recognizable by enlargement of the photos.

And the third is an Analog Synthesizer CV+GATE Keyboard via this auction

"Provide DIY Precision - Analog 2xCV, 2xGATE 3 octaves Keyboard for analog synthesizer with playable CV range of 7 octaves, built-in LFO's and very good playability of the keyboard.
The keyboard is exactly the same as the synthesizer module and is 2-voice (duophone) or monophonic, 2 x separate PORTAMENTO.
The idea came from the OBERHEIM 2 VOICE KEYBOARD, which was expanded a bit.
The KBD is matched and should warm 10 minutes."

The following images are of each in order.

New Oakley 5U Flanger and Chorus Module

via Oakley Sound where you'll find full details. The following overview captured for the archives.

"The Oakley Flanger & Chorus module is an analogue delay line capable of delaying audio signals from 0.5mS to 15mS. In conjunction with an external LFO module this unit can be used to produce real time vibrato, chorus and flanging effects. With the feedback control set to maximum the module can be set to self-oscillate
The delayed audio output is available from the DLY OUT socket. While the MIX OUT socket has a equal mix of input signal and delayed signal. The phase of the delayed signal that is mixed may be selected to be inverted (NEG) or non-inverted (POS) by the use of the MIX switch. This is particularly useful when used for chorus or flanging as the two modes can create completely different effects.

A feedback path from the delayed output back to the input is available and you have control over both the amount, via the FEEDBACK pot, and phase of the signal, via the FBK switch. Inserting a jack plug into the FBK IN socket will break the internal feedback path and allow another signal to be sent into the delay line. This could allow additional processing of the raw delayed signal, from the DLY OUT socket, prior to being sent back into the delay line again. For example, using a VCA to process the feedback signal would allow CV control of the feedback level.
There are two control voltage (CV) inputs. CV1 has a fixed sensitivity while CV2 has its own sensitivity control. CV2's control pot is a reversible attenuator, so you are able to adjust not only the depth of the modulation but also the polarity. Although not specifically designed to track to 1V/octave, using the CV1 input, the module can be used as tuned delay line over a useful proportion of the full operating range.

The delay line itself is based around two 3207 bucket brigade delay (BBD) devices controlled by a voltage controlled oscillator (VCO) running from around 33kHz to over 1MHz. Audio bandwidth of the delayed signal extends to 14kHz and several unusual design features ensure that the module is relatively quiet compared to other units of its type.

Two LEDs provide visual indication of the signal level being sent to the BBD devices. The DRIVE control should be adjusted to ensure that the green LED remains lit for optimum signal level. The red LED will light when the signal level is close to, or is, being overdriven. The module will not be harmed when the signal is overdriven and there is a soft clipping circuit in place to ensure the overdriven sound is musically useful. The DRIVE control allows a variety of different signal levels to be used with the module although the expected signal level would be expected to be between 0.5V(peak) and 8V(peak).

The printed circuit board (PCB) uses a mixture of through hole and surface mount components. The op-amps, non-polar capacitors, resistors and small diodes are all surface mount. The op-amps are SO8 packages, capacitors and resistors 0805 and diodes SOD323. Most builders should find these no problem to solder even if they have not assembled modules with surface mount devices before. To calibrate the unit an oscilloscope is useful but not essential.

The module accommodates either our standard Oakley/MOTM power header or a Synthesizers.com power header. The supply voltage is +/-15V and current consumption is around +75mA and -45mA.

The PCB is 109mm (deep) x 124mm (height). The PCB is a four layer design, has tough solder mask both sides, and has bold component legending for ease of construction."

Erica Black Polivoks VCF is one of the most authentic sounding emulations of the famous Russian synth, the Formanta Radio Factory Polivoks filter.
The original Russian ICs K140UD12 are used in the sound circuit. We did several updates to adapt the VCF for contemporary modular synth demands. Independently buffered inputs, extended Cutoff knob, eliminated clicks, when switching filter modes, and output stage added to eliminate signal inversion. The result is a much punchier bass sound and very smooth controls.

RippleKrell (test 1)

Published on May 12, 2017 Bram Bos

"Testing my new work in progress: Ripplemaker

A modular 'West-Coast synthesis' playground, inspired by synths such as the 0-Coast, Phenol and the Kastle.

Following the experimental synthesis philosophy of people like Buchla and Serge, west-coast synthesis offers a very different approach from the traditional subtractive methods of Moog synths. It's much more about experimenting with additive timbres (hence the absence of a conventional filter) and the manipulation of CV signals.

This video shows a typical generative patch concept called 'Krell' (inspired by the soundtrack of the movie 'Forbidden Planet' 'composed' by Louis Barron). It's self-generating, so no sequencers or triggers are used here. But obviously Ripplemaker will be fully AUv3 compatible so you can do slightly more conventional/musical patches with it ;-)

Recorded in AUM with AUFX:SPACE reverb plugin."
