"Recorded in Japan at a 1978 concert ... original 8-track tapes were sent to the UK and transferred to 16 track tape in Birmingham.

Brian then overdubbed the original recording by adding to the mix with a Kawai Grand Piano ...

I'm sorry about the 'popping, hissing and crackling' from my well worn record ... I keep meaning to replace it."

Another one spotted and sent my way via Conny. Based on the year, I'm guessing the Kawai T50 was analog. The following is some minimal info via organforum.com.

"Masato Akiyama was one of Kawai Japan's staff organists at the time, so would certainly have been heavily involved with the T50 project. A really nice guy and great player.I played my Japanese concerts with him and with another Kawai staff organist, Norio Goto, and our own Brian Sharp.The T50 strings were indeed superb, played from Manual IV (the top one in front of you), but available elsewhere via couplers. With eight, ten really, manuals, it took a few minutes to set up between numbers, but once started, you had enough pre-registered, and then plenty of sounds available pretty much instantly from the presets in front of you.

The T6 was a pre-production version of the T5. I have a picture of it from 1979, when it was in the museum at the Kawai/Teisco factory in Saitama Province."

"Hi, this is a short tutorial to demonstrate how to tune #iVCS3 and also a hardware #VCS3's Dynamic Keyboard patched via matrix row 8.

The method uses Osc1, Osc2 and the DK's zero volt Centre F# with the next octave's F# as a reference.

Patch Osc1's Sine wave and Osc2's Triangle wave to the outputs and turn them up so both can be distinctly heard in the middle audible range. (For A=440 set the Oscillators to F#)

Now using Osc1's audible frequency as a reference, tune Osc2 to 1 octave above Osc1 as close as possible.

Now patch the DK to modulate Osc1's Frequency with a pin at i8 and while holding the F# 1 octave above the centre F#, turn the Input 1 Level Knob until both Oscillators are in "perfect" tune (no fringe beats).

The DK should now be "Tuned" so now remove both Osc's waves' outputs and patch Osc2's Frequency with a pin at j8 and patch the wave outputs into the envelope, not forgetting to patch the envelope to the outputs. Both oscillators can now be "played" with equal temperament.

Additional...

If on the hardware your pins are inconsistent you can use the fact that the DK1 has dual Keyboard Voltage Outputs! So patch Osc1 via row 8 and Osc2 via row 9 then set each Input Level Knob separately."

The memoricorder really seems to be rare.
I can only (for now) find one other photo showing this and it’s an organ used in a band called The Night Blooming Jazzmen. Photo from 1982 with a DX1800 this time.

A member of that band is Les Deutsch, tech engineer and his father Ralph Deutsch invented the first digital instrument, according to Les’ info on his web page. Later on we can read this is probably more true to the first digital organ.

Here's the mk2 new and improved Sample Slicer from Ginko Synthese. I also have it's little friend (new from GS) the 2hp Mic input that comes with this cute little lofi mic (although it works with other inputs too). The first patch takes a clocked synth sequence and samples that live before pitch, sample length (amount of slices from 1-16) and sample start position are modulated. You can really hear that great 12 bit SP-1200 style quality which is nostalgic and full of character. I then move onto talking into the little mic and manipulating my voice over some basic beats. The Sample Slicer is all about live sampling and manipulation, fun and inspiring it omits sample storage or recall in favour of working in the moment."

So different machines lead to different ideas -- so please don't look

"Here's an odd, weird, quirky (whatever you want to call it) sample and hold style affect that I'm calling 'Freeze & Pass' with the Joranalogue Select 2. I'm using the gated hold input to freeze/hold audio (at audio rates). This gives a downsampler style effect but when it's not held it lets the signal pass. Rather than just sample one thing and step to another held sample like a sample and hold. Select 2 can do a tonne of stuff, so check out the full demo above."

"Warning: harsh tones and heavy distortion ... and hopefully you like that kind of thing!

I've had the Lyra 8 for 4 days now and have spent a few moments with it. It's a crazy, crazy synth unit but there are moments of design genius and beauty that dispel any doubts I've had about buying it!

Here I'm playing it without touching the sensors and I've created a kind of 3 track piece. Bringing up the Hold and Sharp knobs to fade in the parts. No external CV input.

Voices 7&8 come in first and they have LFO modulation engaged. The complex LFOs are set to OR have sync off - creating a pitchy pattern fed to those two voices

Voices 3&4 are FM cross-modulated by 1&2 and so you see me playing the Mod knob above 1&2 in order to change the pitch back and forth.

Voices 5&6 are set to a higher pitch drone to bring in some suspense towards the end, along with heavier distortion. I've added a little reverb to smudge the hard edges.

Subtle feedback modulation and some slower LFO settings create some wonderful sounds from the Lyra. Whenever I turn this thing on I get lost in it for hours... 6 or 7 hours!"
