Novation Peak - A pad with a whole lot of movement!

video by Lost Clouds

"I received a Keystep as a Christmas gift and it has been a blast using it with the Peak - something about only having 25 keys forces you to be a bit more creative with the patches you make.

This patch is all about movement - the use of pitch and cutoff modulation with LFO1, pitch glide from envelope 2, oscillator filter modulation modulation with LFO4 and chorus level modulation with LFO3, combined with the onboard reverb and delay gives a patch that's a little bit different every time you press the keys. Opening up the filter gives an even more expressive sound, especially if you time it right with the pitch glide!"

Yamaha Tenori-on live perc demo, layer 16 (Solo mode)

video by SynthAddict

"Samples come from TR-808/TR-909 drum machines. You can’t do this level of sequencing/performance on those classic drum machines.

Watch how the Tenori-on can do evolving drum patterns and more (more demos coming soon). As Nick Trikakis showed in his amazing Akai Force performance vids, the Tenori-on can be an evolving, expressive instrument after plenty of practice. Yes, I need to practice more. :-)

This video has no edits to show how it can be tweaked live to change as needed. No prerecorded/sequenced bits in this clip, but when you do mix live and sequenced bits (as well as MIDI links) the box is even more magical.

The clip is less than 10 min, but may be too long for some, so jump around as needed. Thanks."

Qu-bit Surface: Tutorial and Sound Demo

video by Patchwerks Seattle

"In this video Matthew Piecora (aka EZBOT) of Patchwerks takes us on a guided tour of the QU-Bit Surface Physical Modeling Synthesizer Voice. Video includes a tutorial and sound demonstration.

Surface is a multi-timbral physical modeling voice capable of emulating the sonic qualities of acoustic instruments or morphing into otherworldly synthetic textures. Physical models contain plucked strings, prepared piano, and an assortment of melodic percussion, with up to 8 voices of polyphony. Creating a sense of space is easy with the true stereo outputs and configurable spatialization modes.

Hi Everyone,

I am currently in the midst of a big house move so have not been able to make any new music for a while. Do not despair however, I will soon be up and running in the new place... so stay tuned for more music in a not too far away future.

In the meantime, please enjoy another MicroFreak session which i recorded more or less back to back with the previous video. I kind of like the theme on this one so might use it for a future song for my upcoming album.

Take care everyone, play the music you love and stay safe!! See you soon!

Peace // BURG

Tracks + Volca FM + Bass bleeps and bloops

video by Yurii Zubkov

spotted this one on discchord. Note the above is a playlist featuring additional videos by Yurii and the Novation Circuit Tracks.

"Making some arpeggiated noise, which my brain likes for some reason.

Audio routed into the Tracks in a bit unusual way.
Volca FM has a built-in stereo chorus effect. So as not to lose it, I routed the audio like this:
Volca FM and Bass are connected to the Retrokits RK003 passive mixer (using 3.5mm stereo jacks). Mixed signal from the RK003 goes to the Circuit Tracks Ch1 and Ch2, which are hard panned left and right on the internal mixer.

Printed myself this 2x Volca stand:

That Dirty Tube Filter \\ Gotharman's Little deFormer 3 + Eurorack Modular Synth Jam #TTNM

video by THE TUESDAY NIGHT MACHINES

"My Little deFormer 3's analog filter slots are all occupied, so I'm using Gotharman's Tubaz Eurorack module to add another one :D

The Tubaz filter uses a real low-power vacuum tube to create incredibly crunchy filter sounds. In this video I'm sending the digital LD3 audio through the Eurorack module, while controlling it via the deFormer's CV outputs. The band pass filter signal is then routed back into the LD3 for some granular and delay effects processing :)

Joyo D-Seed II with the DB-01 synth (a little talking)

video by Richard DeHove

"I wasn't going to talk at all but there's a couple of quirks in the D-Seed that I had to mention: Not being able to turn down ping-pong mode; and the frequent need to tap tempo. But it's cheap, stereo and sounds good. After the first couple of minutes I shut-up and noodle at length with all the modes. As usual no other effects or processing except the synth and the pedal. Meanwhile my credit card is nagging me about buying delay pedals - especially since none of them seem exactly right.

Make Noise Strega - Sonic LAB Review

video by sonicstate

"A new instrument born from a collaboration between Alessandro Cortini and Make Nosie.
With an unusual concept and architecture - semi-complex oscillator, analogue delay with a filter and a function generator. It sounds quite simple, and is, but it also sounds pretty interesting, capable of some lovely atmospheric textures and dirty, imperfect sounds with degraded feedback.
Available now priced at 529UK, $599"

See the dealers on the right for availability.

Instruo - Cš-L Techniques

video by Instruō

"A workshop on patching techniques with the Cš-L complex oscillator.

It was a pleasure to be invited by @Omri Cohen to present in his first online event: Mycelium Symposium in March 2021.

The premise of this workshop is to show techniques with the Cš-L for producing a wide array of tonal waveforms with hugely versatile and interesting timbres. All from a single output jack!

My thanks again to Omri for his incredible work putting Mycelium Symposium together, and for everything he contributes to the modular and virtual modular communities!

Cheers!
~Jason"

Small Systems Patches #1 - Drone, Delay & Feedback

video by Abstract Data

"The first, in what will hopefully be, an ongoing series of jams based around small modular systems. This drone, delay and feedback patch takes three different waveform outputs from a single VCO and feeds them into a combination of filters and wave folders. These signals are mixed together and then split into two separate channels where one is the output signal and the other is used as a feedback path running via delay and reverb and then fed back into the mix. These modules are then modulated using combinations of LFO and looped S&H.

You can check out the rig for this patch here: https://www.modulargrid.net/e/racks/v...

Modules used (from L to R): Abstract Data ADE-32 Octocontoller; ADE-33 Event Boss; ADE-60 4:4 Mix Utility; ADE-50 3x VCA; / Intellijel Dixie II; uFold; uVCF; / Audio Damage Dub Jr MK2; / 2HP Verb; / Doepfer A-18-2 Multiple.

Case: 4MS 64X Pod; / Sequencer: Arturia BeatStep Pro; / Additional delay and reverb from Source Audio Collider.

Patch was recorded to a Tascam DR-05 recorder and mixed in Logic Pro X."

You can find demos of one in previous posts here.

"This unit is new/ never used. It is not 'in box' because they do not come in an official box.

Power is from mini-USB cord.
Output is 1/8 jack.

In 2018, a few hundred of the original Ellitone were produced and sold.
In fall 2019, a few hundred more were produced, in a different-looking chassis.
Due to limited availability these are hard to find! Many synth sites have covered this fun, original synthesizer. ALso, check you tubes for what it can do.

This has a handful of functions, plus a cool way to patch the functions.

Too much modulation to describe here. Search the web for description.
but here is a bit:
Eight oscillators.
Six wave forms.
Different sequencer patterns, with different speeds and rhythm choices.
Etc."

"'Sweet dreams are made of this' - well, thats what The Eurythmics thought in 1983....and just about everybody else thought so too eg Chaka Khan, ELO, Queen, Prince & Earth, Wind & Fire... Only 800 were ever made twixt 1979-1981, by Oberheim (Santa Monica, Los Angeles, USA)<> the first of the series OB-X>OB-SX>OB-Xa>OB-8. The legend evolved from that day on, and 40 years later, all these models still see of all competition. Why? Uncomplicated operation, tuning stability, supply of spare parts (no silly superchips) and (mostly) THAT fat (phat?) Oberheim sound. There is nothing like it......raw subtractive analogue synthesis....they look so cool, so studio cred is top drawer, you what? Any muso will faint when he sees an OB-X, especially one that works properly....... This particular synth has been recently serviced by a top US workshop. The hand-crafted wooden end-cheeks give it more class. It has had MIDI fitted. The keys are "unclunky", and all trigger every time. It tunes up & stabilises if simply let be for 10 minutes on fire-up. There is a Z80 microprocessor that automatically maintains tuning henceforth. It has (the max) eight voices with mono or stereo outputs. It has polyphonic glide, 8-voice mono unison, noise, sample & hold, p/bend & mod levers, saw, or square waveforms (which can be synced), independent tuning for both VCOs (with de-tune) & lots of modulation possibilities, 32 patch memories ....just find any patch, hit EDIT, and make your own. The memory protect on/off switch is safely tucked away inside. Sustain pedal actually works as it should (they usually do not!). ...one included in package. Copy of original manual is supplied....vital for operation. Voltage can be switched twixt 120V o<>230Vac, in 5 seconds."

"Fantastic Two Voice - fully working and excellent shape. Warm, thick, lush and inspired - there are sounds and patterns that had eluded me until i really got the sem coupled w/ the sequencer - it's really intuitive and guides certain sounds straight away. This has the later sequencer (1977) w/ the pitch quantize option that snaps to pitch, which can changed to free run w/ an internal jumper. It's been professionally serviced and calibrated and is fully operational. I had the i/o panel on the back updated to be a mirror of the cv/gate in/out for module one as well for full control of either voice, in or out. there is a little wear on the case and some pitting/oxidation on the chrome - see photos."

Korg DDD-1 | Outstandingly fun drum machine!

video by Espen Kraft

"The Korg DDD-1 drum machine from '86-87 is one of the better drum machines you can get from the 80s. It has a Kick and Snare that can rival the Linndrum and it has awesome specs throughout.
High quality&24 Hours Build Time: https://www.pcbway.com/

The demo song is made up from drums of the DDD-1. I programmed two patterns that just alternates in Song mode, on repeat.
Then I programmed the chord pattern on the Korg SDQ-1 sequencer and set that to drive/sync the DDD-1 through MIDI sync. The SQD-1 has two MIDI outs so the other played those chords on a Korg EX-800, the module version of the Poly-800.
I played the synth solo with the same sound off the EX-800 and I played the bass from the Korg DW-8000. Since this required three hands, I multitracked it all. The SQD-1 was clocked/synced directly from the DAW and put in external MIDI sync. That way the multi tracking was always on the beat.

In the demo I have processed each of the drum sounds individually to sound the best, so these are not the dry sounds out of the DDD-1. What's the fun of that?

The demo song is shot on VHS tape, with a Panasonic M7 VHS camera from 1987 and the footage is edited down in Adobe Premiere Pro on a 720p timeline."
