"Not Old, Not Borrowed, Not Blue...But New
In this day when it seems like so many are just resurrecting the past, we, at Artisan Electronic Instruments think art and technology have moved forward. And we want to bring something new into the world of synthesis. NUCLEUS is a unique and powerful monophonic Synthesizer that combines the sound design of East and West Coast ideas, blends Analog and Digital technologies, and packs a vast sound palette into an intuitive user aesthetic.

Don’t be fooled by its compact size. The NUCLEUS is anything but a classic remake or just a “more of the same” Synthesizer. There is a lot of sonic synthesis power hidden behind that 60hp panel, an extraordinary amount for such a small instrument.

A Beast Of Raw Sonic Power
Nucleus fills any harmonic space with its complex 3 Oscillator block. Its analog and digital circuits churn out some serious walls of sound. This little machine ROARS!

Oscillator 1 is based on an analog discrete Saw-core circuit providing those classic Saw, Triangle, and variable pulse/PWM waveforms. Tied into it is a modulate-able 4 stage wavefolder for awesome metallic tones. The Sub-Oscillator has its own variable filter producing smooth pounding sine waves or all the way through a rich square.

Oscillator 2 is also a fully discrete analog design with Saw, Variable Pulse/PWM, and PWM with Sub-Octave. But that’s just the start. It also has a selectable 2 or 3 stage Digital Ring Modulator. The DRM combines the waveforms of all three Oscillators for some amazing tones heard nowhere else. If that were not enough, Oscillator 2 can Hard-Sync to a separately controlled digital 4th oscillator. Wait, there's more, when not in Hard Sync, it can be Frequency Modulated by Oscillator 3 through a dedicated VCA controlling the FM depth in real-time.

Oscillator 3 is digital, why? To provide those unique sounds only found in the digital world. It still provides some clean anti-aliased standard shapes, like Sine and PWM but adds a few tricks, such as a variable slope Saw to Triangle wave, an adjustable width Swarm wave, and String tones using the Karplus-Strong physical model. There are ten slots for custom waveforms and a noise source. Oscillator 3 also has a bit-crusher/sample reducer effect to get into some dirty digital color.

And you can modulation just about anything! From pitch, wave-shape, and mix levels and the oscillator “special effects” of sub-shape, hard-sync frequency, FM depth, and bit crusher strength.

Character and More Character
There is so much to NUCLEUS before ever reaching the filter. But that bad boy does not want to be outdone. It is awesome in its own right. First off it offers a unique cascade multi-mode design. The filter runs in 2 pole Low Pass, Bandpass, and High Pass modes, as well as 4 pole versions of each. It’s the Dual-path Regeneration and 8-pole design that really give a unique character to the Bandpass modes, providing variable and modulate-able bandwidth and dual peak resonance. Since the filter can track over a wide range you can “play” these peaks and get a 5-oscillator sound or chord!

The filter has modulation inputs for cutoff, resonance, and filter shape. And after all that, the asymmetrical soft clipping circuits can bring in some much loved “dirt”. Just crank that Overdrive knob. Band Pass Close Up.jpg

Modulation Mania Until You Drop
With all this sonic power, the Artisan NUCLEUS Synthesizer controls it all with an deep and powerful modulation matrix. There are 50+ modulation sources and 30+ destinations that all available simultaneously. An impressive amount for such a compact mono synth. There are 4 six-stage Envelope Generators (delay, attack, hold, decay, sustain, release), with looping, linear, and expo shapes and time and sustain modulation. 3 LFOs provide 9 waveshapes, key-sync, delay, and rate modulation. 2 external CVs and 4 modulation paths from the keyboard to add more real-time modulation control. And now it gets wild. You can take those modulations sources and Add, Multiply, Average, Lag, Quantize, Switch, Sync knobs, contour, and route MIDI CC to create new modulation effects. A modulation engine that has far more on offer than a classic mono synth."

Casio CZ-101, SoundSaw and AltiSpace apps

video upload by Igor Vasiliev

"Casio CZ-101 with Akai MFC42 (analog filter module) processed by SoundSaw (distortions) and AltiSpace 2 (convolution reverb) apps on iPad.

AltiSpace is a convolution reverb app with advanced controls that provides realistic sounding natural acoustic space or vintage reverb devices for any track or mix.
SoundSaw is a complex sound processing app with easy-to-use controls designed to distort the sound of musical instruments or voice, and give the sound the aesthetics and atmosphere of noise, lo-fi, chiptune and experimental music scene."

"SoundSaw app updated to version 1.2

This update brings new presets, improves the app's audio engine and makes some of the controls more convenient. Also some minor bugs were fixed."

Experimental Modular Synth Jam with Gotharman's Urano // A Modern Krell? #TTNM

video upload by THE TUESDAY NIGHT MACHINES

"This is an evolving, semi-autonomous sound design patch created with Gotharman's Urano Modular Synth and Happy Nerding's FX AID XL Eurorack module (Lo-Junky effect). It's loosely inspired by Krell patches. I'm using techniques from my Sample & Hold and Clock Modulation Tutorials (see playlist link below) to generate a mix of random and non-random modulation values, which affect each other and the modulation targets. The Edit Knobs adjust oscillator waveforms, filter resonance, LFO speeds and more. It's so complexly patched that any user input can also be categorised as a "semi-random" modulation source. One can put on some stereo headphones, close the eyes and just fall into the machine."

Ambient Explorations pt.26 (Berklee Modular System)

video upload by Piotr Garbaczonek

"Thanks for watching!
I decided to push what I can do on Berklee's Modular System to a new level, so this is the outcome of that. I only could work with a single sequencer, so I didn't have much variation in terms of melodic structure, but nonetheless, I made it ambient sounding.

Best Ambient Synth Shootout #117: Casio HT-3000 - Song 3

video upload by Christian's Sonic Spaces

"This is the third song with the HT-3000. This time only with custom sounds in a minimalist, spherical soundscape of randomness. The HT-3000 is a 8-voice synthesizer based on 'Spectrum Dynamic' SD Synthesis and has a single real analog 4-pole voltage-controlled filter. My HT-3000 has the legoluft filter mod (http://legoluft.de/tech/bending/e-cas...), so that the frequency and resonance can be control in real-time via two separate knobs (on the left side above the pitch bend wheel).

I used for the recording the following FX chain:
HT-3000 - Digitech Obscura - Pigtronix Echolution 2 Deluxe - GFI System Specular Reverb 2.
Depending on the recorded track some FX are deactivated. In addition, I used in Cubase the coreFX Volume Former on some tracks for a slight pumping effect.

The signal went through a Presonus StudioLive 16.0.2 into the PC via USB for recording. To create the complete song I recorded consecutively several stereo tracks. The final song was then mastered with a bit EQ and compression on some tracks and some limiting on the master track."

In The Desert Of Arrakis - Dune inspired Jam with Cocoquantus2 & Mother-32

video upload by PanicGirlVids

"I recently watched Dune by Denis Villeneuve - and despite being very sceptical - I loved every minute of it. During the scenes in the desert of Arrakis my mind kept wandering to the Cocoquantus2 by Ciat-Lonbarde and how perfect it would be to make sand and desert-like sounds with it. Paired with the Mother-32 I was instantly hooked by the hypnotizing atmosphere created by those two instruments. During the jam I imagined to be in the desert of Arrakis, barely seeing anything with all the sand in front of my eyes and feeling a giant sandworm approach from afar.

First I recorded some noise from Mother-32 into the left sampler of the Cocoquantus, and then I recorded a low bass tone into the right sampler. After that I started jamming with this setup. It sounds pretty different from what I usually compose these days, so I’m looking forward to hear what you think of it.

All sounds come from the Ciat-Lonbarde Cocoquantus2 and Moog Mother-32, with some additional Valhalla Reverb and FabFilter Limiter added in Ableton."
