VMC - midi orientated eurorack modules with voltage control

video upload by Florian Anwander

via https://florian-anwander.de/vmc/

"The VMC-System is a series of modules for Eurorack systems, which provide MIDI handling and (analog) clock handling in a broader sense. The modules are internally connected by an additional ribbon cable, which provides powersupply, MIDI busses and an analog clock bus. Basically this bus can be combined with the Fluxus Modules by http://soundcomplete.net/ if an adapter board is used.

The modules are distributed under the brand name fanwander.

The following modules are planned:
Euro-Pal: a euro rack version of the MIDI-Pal - with kind permission of Emilie Gillet (Merci beaucoup!). Clock-Man: a master clock generator for MIDI-clock, DIN-sync and analog clock. Assumingly including a shuffle and swing function.

Break-Beat: a bar orientated start / stop / restart function. The idea is based on the Mungo-Enterprises Sync2 (I give big kudos to John Pillans!).

DIN-2-CLK: a DIN-sync to analog clock converter. This will be the "professional" followup to my DIN-Sync to analogue clock interface

All modules are available as assembled modules and as kits. Frontpanels and PCBs may be sold separately.

At the moment a first production run has started with the following modules:"

"The VMC-1 is a generic module, which combines an ARDUINO NANO with a display, five buttons, three digital-inputs and two control voltage inputs with amount control.
This module may run various software.

At the moment (12/2021) I offer only the SQ-3P sequencer, but other programs like chord-trigger, voltage controlled MIDI-converts, or similar will follow soon.

You need at least one of the Input/Output modules listed below to connect the VMC-1 to youre MIDI-environment. For details see the VMC-1 users manual

Width: 18HP
Depth: 40mm

Powerconsumption:
if powered with +12V ~300mA, if powered from +5V ~250mA, less if used without LED backlight

The modules are distributed under the brand name fanwander."

Dark ditty with CZ-1000, Juno-60, Brigitta, DR-220A

video upload by SynthMania

"I was listening to some old four-track cassette tapes of me from the '80s, and there was a dark tune I did with CZ-1000 and DR-220A (my first synth and first drum machine) in 1987. I reprised it here, plus added a bit of Juno-60 synth lines, and left hand real time sequenced bass from Synthesizers.com Studio-88 (Brigitta). Reverb: MXR 01, an early digital rack unit from the early '80s."

COMPARE: Roland Jupiter 8 vs Jupiter 8 - Which is better?

video upload by Andy Whitmore

"Roland Jupiter 8 vs Jupiter 8 – do they sound the same?

The Roland Jupiter 8 was built 1981 – 1985 & was the flagship of the Roland range.
3300 units were built with a “build the ultimate synthesizer – no limits on price” attitude. What a machine! Unapparelled reliability – built like a rock – 16 discrete oscillators – completely analogue – this machine was only matched by the Yamaha CS80 – which is a different beast altogether.
Hear for yourself?

Yamaha SY35 "Dynamic Vector Synthesis"

video upload by Alfonse

"Music: "Continuum" (C) Copyright 2022 Alfonse
Download the track here: https://alfonse.bandcamp.com/album/syfy

Yamaha SY35 Music Synthesizer (1992)

All sounds in this track are SY35 factory presets, including the drums. Most are from the "Internal" memory banks, which focus on synth sounds, with the bass in the verse coming from the "Preset" bank, which is aimed more at replicating acoustic instruments.

The SY35 was launched in 1992 and is effectively a hybrid of Yamaha's outgoing FM synthesizer technology with their new AWM sample-based engine, with 2 FM operators and 2 AWM oscillators. A joystick provides vector control to blend between the chosen waveforms in the patch in different ways, either by affecting their volume (Level) or their pitch (Detune).

Patches used:
drums = I88 DR:Kit
chorus brass synth = I53 BR*Fat
chorus bass synth = I51 BR*Punch
end chorus synth strings = I13 SP*Full!
chorus mellow synth = I22 SC*Elgnt
first chorus lead = I72 ME*Drama
end chorus lead = I38 SL*AnaSy
end chorus short notes = I32 SL:Squar
verse chords = I17 SP*Fog
verse bass = P53 BA*Slap
verse melody = I66 SE*Elect
verse bells = I24 SC*Coin
verse lead = I71 ME*Wide!

Programming new patches via the front panel is a fairly thankless task, but there is a good editor out there: https://ctrlr.org/sy35-voice-editor/"

Amanita rhopalopus Plays Eurorack Modular Synthesizer: Mushrooms Talking

video upload by MycoLyco

"Through the use of bio data sonification we can listen in on the bio electric activity of this Amanita rhopalopus specimen. It was rather old and had lots of bugs crawling all over it but there was still some beauty to be found. I love mushrooms and their unique morphology.

Changes in electrical resistance are converted to control voltages for a eurorack modular synthesizer. This produces what has come to be known as Mushroom Music. The resulting sound is dependent on the artists style, synthesizers and patching choices. I try to patch into many parameter to create a sonic universe of potential sounds that the mushroom can explore freely."

"Akai AX60 analog synth with Tauntek upgrade, new switches, new key contacts, dust cover, and audio/MIDI cables. Everything works great and sounds incredible. The key felt was also replaced, so the key bed no longer has that Ensoniq "clack." The sliders are a little rough, but work without any dropout or crackling. Also note, there is some cosmetic wear (see the photos for details), some of the solder work inside on the control panel might not be to everyone's taste (not my doing), and finally, this synth is HEAVY."

#StolperBeats feat. WMD & Erica Synths #LXR

video upload by Cinematic Laboratory

"StolperBeats from Making Sound Machines means something like 'beats tripping over themselves'. This may sound a bit like a drunken drummer, but in practice it gives you a 'realistic drum' sequencer for your modular. This video features the WMD drum modules and the brand new Erica Synths LXR drum synthesizer."

Listen to the fatness of that sound as the 2 Dpvco saw waveforms passing through the RF Mixer using the transistor output while after goes through SH Vcf - RF Vca and then again to another RF Mixer using the opamp for final output.

The sound is directly recorded dry with no effects !

Schlappi Engineering Three Body VCO - Just Drones

video upload by John Schussler

"Three Body has just arrived, and I'm in the throes of figuring it out.

Here's 25 minutes of me working through a bunch of different drone sounds,
first with outputs from all three VCOs, then from just Center VCO outputs (but modulated by the other two VCOs).

No external modulation sources, no envelopes, just the Three Body by itself.
