synth_nyc 24bit 96kHz synthesizer custom patches demos and continuous audio playback

via synth_nyc

"synth_nyc has launched a new website where visitors can experience 24bit 96kHz synthesizers demos of custom patches, with continuous audio playback while navigating on the site.

This could be the first site to offer such user experience.

FLAC (Free Lossless Audio Codec)
The audio content on the Internet is usually using lossy audio codecs (AAC, Vorbis, etc…) with about 100Kb/s, and may not necessarily showcase the full sonic quality of the synthesizers we are getting today. synth_nyc site is featuring a lossless audio codec; FLAC.

You will be getting 3Mb/s audio streams.

How does it work? The principle is simple, audio demos masters (24bit 96kHz PCM / WAV) are FLAC compressed (encoded) on the web server; and decompressed (decoded) ‘real-time’ by your Internet browser client while streamed. There is also a network of web servers distributed worldwide so the content is always close to your location.

Continuous Audio Playback

The principle is simple also: as soon as you press Play on any page on the site, a ’sticky’ player will also show-up on the page footer

Then you can, if you want navigate to another page.

And the track will continue playing with no disruption.

You may also - at any moment - click the 4 horizontal bars on the sticky player to display the track list / playlist currently selected"

See synth_nyc for more.

Rare Elex Excelsior EK4 Strings & Brass Synth SN 6937

video upload by ohm_studi_ohm

This appears to be the first post to feature one. You can find additional string machines by Elex in previous posts here.

via this auction

"Extremely rare italian string machine, built by Elex (ELettronica EXcelsior), also sold by Hohner at some point. Very close in sound to the Crumar Performer or Elka Rhapsody.

It offers Strings and Brass section, with independent volume for each instruments, a very nice filter in the brass section, as well as vibrato, and the string section has long crescendo and sustain settings.

Unit was serviced and is in very good working order except for the attack in the Brass section that doesn't work. This synth use a very rare SSM2050 chipset as the enveloppe generator on the brass section. This is the same chip used in the Sequential Circuits Prophet 5 and the RSF Kobol for instance. It simply can't be found anywhere. But if you are lucky to own one you can most probably fix the attack on the brass section ;-) Apart from that everything is working. Capacitor in the power supply were replaced and synth was calibrated. It uses the typical "ensemble" effect based on a triple BBD chorus, with the same TCA350 chipsets you have in the Eminent Solina, Crumar Performer, Logan String Melody and so many more classic string synths.

Cosmetic wise the synth is in good condition, especially considering the rather cheap build quality. But of course it has some scuffs here and there."

"If you've never heard one, here's a nice description: 'piano sounds like a square wave mixed with a sawtooth, the clavichord is a pulse wave, and the bass is a square wave, very short and percussive and electronic sounding. Best sound....piano mixed with clav with phase on - instant Kraftwerk,'"

Note this is the first post to feature the Pioanotronic 61.

Additional Tone Tweakers Listings, also on Reverb

"Like nearly all the high end vintage analog synths we sell, this item has been METICULOUSLY disassembled, cleaned inside and out, FULLY serviced by professionals who’ve been servicing and selling vintage synths for more than the last 3 decades, and systematically tested multiple times over a long period to ensure it’s working exactly as it should. No BS. No ebay surprises. We’re perfectionists and don’t cut corners. Although this instrument came to us in relatively good shape, we want our items to be better than the rest and invested *many* hours of tech time plus parts costs to fully overhaul this unit so it would be clean, working like new again and as reliable as possible for its next owner. This was a serious investment of time, love, and money, and was definitely worth the effort and is of course reflected in the higher than usual price. If you’re looking for a great sounding example of this model that works just like it should without needing to invest hundreds or thousands of dollars in tech fees and waiting from weeks to years, this one should make you very happy.

We paid our tech for 10 hours of work to refurbish this unit so it would be better than others on the market. He did the following work to it:

Replaced all LEDs.
Cleaned unit inside and out, including removing the typical moog foam that turns to tar
Replaced power supply electrolytic capacitors for longevity
Cleaned and lubed key contacts
Removed and remounted AC cable
Recalibrated VCOs, checked VCF and VCA"

5 Things you can make with the Jam Jam trigger and gate processor from Noise Engineering

video upload by

"We're patching with Jam Jam, our trigger and gate processor, to make an instant jam, swing patterns, wind chimes, staggered gates and triggers, and long delays.

0:08 Instant Jam
1:00 Swing
1:32 Wind Chimes
2:27 Staggered
3:16 Haiku Delay

More about Jam Jam:

Jam Jam is a four-channel trigger and gate processor with three modes: Random, Clock Phase, and Gate Delay. JJ is so versatile, you’ll find use for it in every patch.

Add a bit of variety to your patch with Random mode: use four channels of individually adjustable probability to process gate or trigger patterns.

Use Clock Phase mode to add some organic feel to your sequences—or break them in and out of sync completely.

Gate Delay mode is a powerful timing tool useful for anything from precise adjustments for latency compensation to big changes for creative patching: delay events from sub-millisecond adjustments to huge delays of over 15 seconds.

Jam Jam is a musical and fun utility you won’t want to be without. And with voltage control over each channel in all modes, Jam Jam is a completely new way to work with binary signals in your patches."

Exploring the Magic of the 3rd Wave // The BEST Hardware Synth 4 Sound Design

video upload by Ricky Tinez

"The 3rd wave synthesizer by Groove Synthesis is a powerful digital synthesizer with some amazing analog circuitry. It's quickly become my favorite synthesizer in my studio. It allows users to create a wide range of sounds, from realistic instrument tones to complex waveforms. The synthesizer has tons of knob per function and includes really high quality built-in effects. I mean, look at this list of features JUST on the sound engine.. 32 classic, PPG-legacy wavetables.. 64 waves per table..

48 high-resolution custom wavetables with 64 waves per table.. a total of 64 high-resolution user wavetables.. 7 high-resolution modeled analog waveforms (including continuously variable color noise).. Linear FM.. a 6-stage wave envelope per oscillator with variable time and position that can be looped.. and Optional wave flow for smooth or stepped wave transitions.. That's just the beginning of the synth. Don't forget the analog filter which came from Dave Rossum, 4 envelopes, 4 LFOs, effects.. this synth is a sound designers DREAM. Easily one the best synths for Sound Design right now.

LFusion Dual Analog VCO 16HP Eurorack module demo review - Linear, Exp & Thru-Zero FM, Triangle core

video upload by

"Reworked video demo - Music first, explanation second. Introduction to new L-Fusion Electronics Dual Analog Triangle Core Voltage Controlled Oscillator (VCO) compact 16HP Eurorack Synthesizer module with linear, exponential and through-zero FM modulation, sub oscillator and integrated crossfaders. For best sound experience use headphones or studio monitors.

Module can be ordered here:

This fully analog Eurorack Synthesizer module offers two identical VCOs - each oscillator is based on super stable analog SSI2130 VCO IC served by 46 opamps doing precision analog math. In total there are 34 analog ICs (Integrated Circuit chips) and 449 other parts. This video demo was made using two of these modules or 4 VCOs in total spread across 3 voices.

In analog VCO sound wave is generated by charging and discharging precision capacitor controlled by temperature compensated exponential converter, generated triangle wave then goes to wave shapers producing different wave forms. Such technology outputs supreme audio quality.

Pitch is tuned to standard 1 volt per octave, oscillator provides excellent tracking across 10 octaves, it can be tuned with precision of +-1 cent or 0.01 semitone."

A VCA completes the patch. Arduino Drum Sequencer and Arduino CV Quantizer controlling Analog Synth Drums and other Modules."

This Is Not RocketScience | Fenix IV Jam | Wobbler2 First Patch

video upload by Cinematic Laboratory

"A few weeks ago I had the pleasure of visiting Stijn & Priscilla from TiNRS. They hide their company secrets in plain sight, so they're not easy to find between all modules made by Stijn for personal use. The Wobbler2 was on the verge of release, there's a collab between TiNRS and Making Sound Machines (a Looper) and a collab with Error Instruments (White Rabbit). There's also a reverb on the way and I hope they follow my suggestion to have a reverse reverb on it. But that seems to be true rocketscience...
I had a lot of fun making this video.

The Fenix IV is better than I could ever guess, but unfortunately it's sold out forever. Let's hope some of its 31+ components make it to eurorack. The Wobbler2 is a good start!
