Make Noise 0-CTRL + Eurorack Patching Tips w/ Omri Cohen

video uploads by Perfect Circuit

"Make Noise's 0-CTRL is one of our favorite standalone controllers—we use it all the time alongside semi-modular and other desktop gear. But it also makes an excellent pairing with Eurorack modular synthesizers, as well!

In this two-part video series, modular synth expert Omri Cohen talks us through some of his favorite tactics for using 0-CTRL along with a Eurorack modular synthesizer. Patch tips, module recommendations, and sage CV wisdom abound!

In this video, Omri walks us through his thoughts on using 0-CTRL with quantizers, probability, and even some more advanced tricks using a sample & hold.

Introducing the Kodamo MASK1 Bitmask Synthesizer

video uploads by Kodamo

"The Kodamo MASK1 is a musical instrument focused on the sound interaction between the player and the keyboard. With its exclusive Bitmask™ engine combined with resonant filters, the MASK1 makes raw, gritty and ethereal sounds that respond in incredible ways to your playing style."

"What is Bitmask synthesis?

Bitmask synthesis is the method the MASK1 uses to generate its sound. Internally, oscillators do only have one waveform. Various tones are created by applying what is called a bitmask. This is a technique inherited from computing, which alters a number by masking some of its digits. Here we adapted this technique to make sound. Bit-masking creates complex wave shapes that are full of harmonics and give the MASK1 its sonic character."

Expressive & Characterful

The Kodamo MASK1 is a musical instrument focused on the interaction between the player and the keyboard. With its exclusive Bitmask engine combined with resonant filters, the MASK1 makes raw, gritty and ethereal sounds that respond in incredible ways to your playing style.

It's not just the notes

Most synths just play the notes you press. We went a bit further, by looking at how the notes interact with each other. Only by playing the keyboard, you can control when the attacks are triggered, how notes are tied or separated from each other, or if they should keep resonating or stop each other like if they were played on the same string on a stringed instrument. You will discover new ways of playing the keyboard.

Built with love

The MASK1 uses a high quality, 5-octave Fatar keyboard with velocity and aftertouch. It's fully made of painted metal, with two ALPS knobs and 23 KAILH mechanical switches. Everything is assembled in France with high attention to detail. We love creating musical instruments that have their own identity. We spent a lot of time selecting parts and suppliers to balance price and work ethics, while always aiming for the highest quality.

For live and studio players

With its compact size and light weight, the MASK1 will easily fit in your studio and is ideal for gigs. It remembers settings between sessions. With its unique sound, premium keyboard and MIDI connectivity, it can become the main keyboard of your setup.

Live Acid Techno Improvised Studio Performance with TR909 + TB303 + Modular Synth + MachineDrum

video upload by Honeysmack

"Live Acid Techno 20 minute improvised performance I did for @Trovarsi for Transduction. As always this is a totally improvised performance shot in a single take with no additional processing. There's very little preparation, besides making sure I have everything sync'd and audio levels are correct before I start the performance. My interactions with my studio and the happy accidents guide the direction of the performance. All shot on 3 cameras from my studio.

🎛 Gear used for this jam: Modular rack:
Roland TR-909
Roland TB-303 Devilfish
Elektron Octatrack (live sampling the modular synth)
Elektron MachineDrum
Playdifferently Model1 mixer
Effects: Eventide Space and Timefactor pedals
Elektron Analog Heat MkI (on master channel)
No other gear or processing used!

Additional Tone Tweakers Listings, also on Reverb

"Meticulously overhauled, sparing no expense, so it would be as good as possible and hopefully reliable well into the future for its next owner. This results in a Maxi-Korg that's way better than others you may find and justifiably more costly too."

Korg Trident SN 331878

via this auction

Additional Tone Tweakers Listings, also on Reverb

"After investing so much time and money into this instrument, it's now working absolutely flawlessly and is operationally probably the best Trident available anywhere. It's a real pleasure to play. Due to this huge investment, we're only going to sell it if we can get what we consider a fair price for it, which should be considerably more than what your typical unserviced or minimally serviced instruments sell for, though there will no doubt be people who try to put our justifiably higher price on their way lesser examples, as usual. If it doesn't sell for our asking price, we will keep it and record with it in our studio as it sounds heavenly now that its been fully overhauled."

EML Electrocomp 500

via this auction

"Original vintage 70’s EML Electrocomp 500 analog synthesizer in excellent playing condition!

This fine example has just been fully serviced, recapped, calibrated, and is ready for another 50 years of weirdness!

For the uninitiated, these old EML machines are beasts! They were designed for possibilities, rather than performance, and can get really, REALLY far out in terms of sound creation, and experimentation. Sure, you can make leads and basses, and classic Moog/ arp sounds, but you can also go deeeeep. This one was actually used in a high school science lab to teach electronics and synthesis, and still has the school name, and serial inscribed on the walnut side panel!

Super rare, super cool. Enjoy!!!!"

Original SYNTON Fenix 1 - Only 75 Ever Made (1999)

via this auction

"Only 75 units were ever made of this very rare synth. It is used and loved by the likes of Martin Gore (Depeche Mode) and Richard D James (Aphex Twin). This synth is a rare sight on auction sites as there are so few and artists tend to hold on to their Fenixes as they are such a special piece of gear.

The original Synton Fenix 1 is designed and built by the original 1973-1989 Synton team as their ultimate modular synthesizer. None of the available modular synthesizer quite fulfilled their needs and wishes so they came back together once again and built their dream machine, and they succeeded! It's a synth like no other, it's tonal range is extreme, changing from rich and lush sounding to mix-cutting fierceness within a few twists of the knobs.

The layout is designed with live performance in mind, knobs have a great feel and are very well spaced out, especially for a synth so versatile equipped as this. Modules are numerous and diverse. The three VCO's all have their own properties and so do the VCF and EG modules. Each have their own distinctive parameters and in-/outputs making them serving multiple roles at once, for instance VCF 3 has a three input audio mixer as input stage, removing the need for a seperate mixer module. VCO's go as low as LFO frequencies and the range of LFO reaches to the audible spectrum. Stackable bananaplugs make patching quick and flexible.

The rear of the Fenix is equiped with 6 3,5mm jackplugs which are routed to bananajacks on the front for easy integration with other modulares or Midi to CV modules. The front has both a 6,3 mm stereo jack output as a two channel audio input for routing external signals through the Fenix.

Oberheim OB-Xa SN P13072 w/ Encore MIDI

via this auction, also on Reverb

"Great working condition, all eight voices work, all knobs, keyboard, outputs , levers, stereo panning etc. Note that as all vintage OB's synths, sometimes when you turn it on you might have one or two voices not passing autotune - this happens to most of them, and as you keep it turned on and it warms up, then, hit autotune again then they go away and you have all eight voices functioning properly. Good cosmetic condition as well (original owner painted the top and sides black, the rest is stock). Has Encore MIDI interface mounted on, which is also tested and working. Also comes with professional heavy-duty hard case."
