Schlappi Engineering THREE BODY / sync and crossmodulation / more experiments

video upload by BRiES

"For this clip I tried syncing the outer VCOs of THREE BODY to the center VCO. Pairing up sync with any kind of frequency- or phase modulation is always a good idea, so I turned eveything up. You'll see and hear that it's fairly straighforward to go back to a cleaner sound.

All the VCOs are in free mode (which means the FM inputs or the outer VCOs actually do FM. Should they be in ratio mode, the FM inputs become Phase Modulation inputs)."

Sculpting Electricity with Landscape FM Noon

"A deep dive into the Noon passive analog drum synth, designed by Landscape FM and Mystic Circuits. This video provides an in-depth walkthrough of Noon and how it works, along with a number of demos and patch examples of Noon in combination with hardware sequencers / touch controllers, Eurorack modular synths, acoustic instruments, and effects pedals. We’ll also go over what 'passive' means and how a passive synth like Noon works."

MooSonics Vanilla Synthesizer First Encounter - Cory Flanigan vs Juggable Offense

video upload by suitandtieguy

"My good friend Cory Flanigan, a drummer who plays drums and electronics simultaneously, came over a few days after I finished the first properly and fully functional MooSonics Vanilla Synthesizer, a new basic American format modular synthesiser based on and restricted to the functions and timbre of 1970s Oberheim instruments, specifically the Two Voice, which Tom said was his favourite of everything he made. There is also an LFO module derived from the MS-20 and a control bus module that allows you to address all pitch and gate modules in the system from only one place, instead of having a dumb mess of cables and multiples. The Moog modular synthesisers worked this way, and I think it's the way things should be.

I got it set up and put it through a couple of IK Multimedia pedals, the X-Time and X-Space, because I can't stand listening to naked instruments. It was also nice to spend more time with the pedals, some of the tweaks are Cory and some are me poking around them.

Controlling the synth is a 2 octave MIDI controller with an internal arpeggiator driving a Roland SBX-1 as a MIDI-to-CV converter.

He played with it for a half hour and I decided to hit the record button, he finished at literally 4:20 AM, about an hour and a half later.

I wanted to post the audio because I thought listening to someone who was not a "modular synthesist" but did actually know synthesisers (Cory spent years making sounds with the Korg Wavestation and Radias, Currently has TWO Wavestates) would do with a thing upon first meeting it.

I didn't edit this except for fades at the beginning and end. I just wanted to present it as something you could listen to, in whole or part, as a reference for what my new instrument sounds like.

Bubba Ayoub AKA Juggable Offense made 90 minutes of video art while listening to it so I could merge them and put it on U-Toob. It beats paying Soundcloud nine bucks a month but you will have to skip through some text-to-speech ads for total snake oil products (YouTube is fine with misinformation if you pay them enough money, it seems.)

It would be cool to do this with more people, putting a new instrument in front of them and seeing what they do with it as a first encounter with new technology.

I know what this thing is supposed to do and what it should sound like from my own perspective, but I'm more interested in hearing what other people do with it.

Also leave a comment if you would be interested in a livestream where I just play with this thing and have the oscilloscope handy to answer questions or make certain kinds of patches."

New Mort Garson LP: 'Journey to the Moon and Beyond'

Mort Garson - Moon Journey (Official Visualizer) video upload by Sacred Bones Records

via The Bob Moog Foundation

"The 1969 Moon landing happened 54 years ago last week -- and we've got the soundtrack. 🌕 👩‍🚀

After launching into space on July 16, the Apollo 11 crew landed on the moon's surface 54 years ago last Thursday.

The news soundtrack was straight from a Moog IIIc modular synthesizer -- and the mind of the brilliant early Moogist Mort Garson.

For decades, the audio was presumed lost, the only trace of it appearing as part of this old video clip.

But according to Sacred Bones Records, an audio archivist came across a copy of the master tape. Now, a new Mort Garson LP, 'Journey to the Moon and Beyond,' includes the soundtrack to the live broadcast of the Apollo 11 moon landing, as first heard on CBS News.

Osmose // The 7 Stages of Ownership

video upload by Starsky Carr

"Don't be scared - The Osmose isn't like other synths... but its nothing to be afraid of! In fact it feels like we're entering a new more enlightened era. One where we can show more emotions... let's not call it a woke synth though, I could get in all sorts of trouble ;) Would it wear a pink cowboy hat if going to watch barbie? who knows - but it does display A LOT of emotion and dynamics.

Just for fun I've swapped the 7 stages of grief to the 7 stages of enlightenment - because you do go through a process as you play with it. I haven't whitewashed over the negatives either as its all part of the journey. The software can be a b*tch at first, and its so frustrating that a few tweaks to the manual would've saved me a day or so of headscratching.

Overall though... phwoar!!

Oberheim Matrix 6R SN 1379

Note: Auction links are affiliate links for which the site may be compensated.

via this auction

The Matrix 6 was one of the last few synthesizers from Oberheim to come out during the mid-eighties following the classic OB-series. The Matrix 6 utilized high-tech but less expensive digital and midi features and still retained a totally analog sound. It did this by using DCOs (digitally controlled oscillators) to provide stability, programmability and more. All the Matrix synthesizers featured Matrix Modulation which allows for extremely wild virtual patching for almost unlimited range of sounds and modulation capabilities! This Matrix 6R does not come with rack ears, but everything else is functionally sound."

Playing the EMS Oscillators Like A Chord

video upload by PanicGirlVids

"While pinning or patching (I'm still not sure which term to use ^_^ ) I tend to use all three oscillators of the EMS Synthi A in a chord structure. I tune them beforehand and then fade them in and out as it fits to the background pad sound in this case.

The Nagra SN is very noisy as the motor seems to be in bad shape, but I like to use it as a Lofi effect which can be quite charming! In the end I also used the Magneto, which also adds a lot of character.

Does anyone of you own an EMS or has experience with software versions? Let me know if you have any tipps for me, I'd like to learn as much as possible about this lovely machine 🙌 "
