Behringer Working on FPGA Based Elka Synthex Clone

Note the top pic appears to be the development environment while the bottom two are of a vintage Synthex. According to Behringer their Synthex is a couple years out:

"Recreating the Magic of the Elka Synthex

The Elka Synthex, a synthesizer from the early 1980s, is cherished for its rich, warm sound and unique character. Musicians like Jean-Michel Jarre and Duran Duran have used it to create iconic tracks, solidifying its place in music history. Designed by Mario Maggi and produced by the Italian company Elka, the Synthex has a storied past.

At Behringer, we're working to revive the Elka Synthex with a dedicated team of top-notch R&D engineers in Italy, where the original was created. Using advanced Field Programmable Gate Arrays (FPGAs), we're able to replicate the original circuitry and signal paths, capturing the essence of its distinctive sound.

The Role of FPGA’s

FPGAs help us recreate the immensely complex inner workings of the Synthex, ensuring we maintain its unique tonal qualities while improving reliability and performance. The two large chips in the center of the main board are Xylinx FPGA’s.

Honoring a Classic

Our goal is to make the classic sound of the Elka Synthex available to today’s musicians, combining its vintage appeal with modern technology. This passion project aims to respect the legacy of the Synthex while providing the enhancements needed for contemporary use.

Bringing back the Synthex

Stay tuned as we work to bring the Elka Synthex back to life, celebrating its history and sound with the same passion and innovation that marked its original creation.

This 'labor of love' project will take a few years, but it’ll be worth the wait as the Synthex is one of the most iconic synthesizers of all times. Send some love to Matteo and his R&D team."

YAMAHA CS-40M - Review, Sounds & Demo | Analog Synthesizer

video upload by Andy Whitmore

"Explore the unique and rare Yamaha CS-40M, a 2-note polyphonic synthesizer that shares the legendary CS80’s fat, rich sound thanks to its sub-oscillator per oscillator configuration.

The CS-40M features a distinct architecture with its sub-oscillators positioned after the high-pass filter, allowing for the creation of truly unique and interesting sounds. It boasts the same low/high-pass filter as the CS80 and CS70M (the IG00156) but with added versatility due to its bandpass mode, which offers more flexibility compared to the CS80's single filter.

One of the standout features of the CS-40M is its 5 modulation routes. Each route operates at the same speed but offers its own waveform choice and depth. You can modulate either or both oscillators, the filter, the amp’s ADSR, or the entire synth. The ring modulator can also be introduced to modulate the whole synth at a different speed, creating an incredibly dynamic soundscape.

Produced in limited quantities between 1979 and 1986, the CS-40M is a rare gem in the synth world. While it includes 20 presets similar to the Jupiter 4, these presets aren’t tweakable. However, the live panel interface, akin to the MiniMoog, is user-friendly, responsive, and satisfying to use.

With its 44-note full-size keyboard and synth action, the CS-40M is a joy to play and can be seen as a 2-note polyphonic version of the CS70M.

Yamaha MU15 demo

video upload by Floyd Steinberg

"The MU15 is a battery powered XG / GM module from 1998. I recorded this demo in three stereo tracks, one after the other, on my ZOOM R20. There's an amp sim from the R20 applied to the lead sound and a compressor on the master track, other than that, no additional external effects."

Destiny Plus - Entanglement Space

video upload by NOISEBUG

https://www.noisebug.net/

"The audio that enters the Entanglement Space only faintly resembles the audio that exits. Reality is broken down to the sub-atomic, distorted, blended separated, and rearranged. Yet against all intuition and logic the signal still remains linked, faintly to its origin. The Destiny+ Entanglement Space will split your concept of what DSP effects can/should be into a trillion bits and command a redefined perception of sonic reality.

It’s also just a lot of fun to play with!

Small Case Jam Sessions #15

video upload by FL3SHB4CK

"This jam is taking part of the Hiss and a Roar Sound Design Challenge 2
link: https://hissandaroar.com/v3/sound-des...
Patch notes: it's a kind of Sampler Krell patch.
Samples from H&R has been processed and edited into 10 new samples, and loaded as a bank into the 4ms sampler. Voltage Block is an 8 tracks, 16 steps sequencer, clocked by the "end of sample" of the 4ms Sampler. The 4 first tracks are modulating pitch, start position, length and sample of the sampler. The 4 last tracks are modulating time, desity, pitch and reverb of Beads, the real time granular effect, feeded by the sampler in stereo.
The sampler is set in loop mode, so each time a loop of sample ends the sequencer advance to the next step of the 8 tracks, each in random order.
It's rather chaotic but you can control it a bit with attenuators and knobs positions of the sampler. In addition, the Intellijel FSR 1U (top left corner) allow me to freeze the buffer of Beads, and to modulate the size parameter, from reverse long to short. And outside of the case, a simple passive switch can mute the "end of sample" gate to freeze the Voltage Block.
Quite FUN :)

esthetical note: focus on cables is totally intentional."

Best Synth Solo Ever Recorded // Note by Note

video upload by Starsky Carr

"In 1979 Gary Numan toured 'The Touring Principle' in which Billy Currie played a stunning synth solo during the performance of On Broadway, which appears on the Living Ornaments 79 album. This is widely considered as one of, if not, the best synth solos ever. It's musically accomplished and technically brilliant moving from organic orchestral style tones to worm hole ripping screeching electronic sync tones and back again.

It's a wonderfully emotional and very clever performance. In this I break it down note by note and show each of the tweaks on the synth (the Arp Odyssey) to get those dramatic changes in timbre."

Radikal Technologies Accelerator soundscape II - Mists of yesterday

video upload by MIDERA

"Wow - I didn't realize how hot the Accelerator can run, and I ended up clipping the sound a few times. This is what happens when I use the string filter (karplus-strong synthesis). You can get really plucky sounds, but it can also do pretty good strings. Was fun to make - just wish I hadn't clipped the track so bad.

I had turned on the accelerometer - and found it to add some random interesting changes (in case you're wondering why I hit the side of it a few times).

No external FX used."

GodSpeed NEW | A Tiny Case Adventure | by Endorphin.es

video upload by Cinematic Laboratory

"Obviously, this video is about the new Godspeed V2. However, it's a simple 6 HP mono VCO with a few nice tricks, and not that different from the V1.
It can be explained in a minute or two, but we'll be missing the smaller picture.

For this video I wanted to feature Godspeed in a 'tiny case adventure', where my tiny case would be 60 HP. I'd say anything smaller is microscopic.
The Endorphin.es 6 HP line offers great starting points for building a mini-synth, especially when you turn it into a tiny haunted house with the awesome Ghost. Sure, the Ghost takes a lot of valuable space, but it's an all-in-one powerhouse and it's impossible to make a tiny Shuttle with separate delay, reverb, distortion, compression, bitcrushing and filtering. It will not fit. Like it or not, the Ghost is a masterpiece and one of my top 10 modules (chech the latest firmware too).

This also made me realize I was still clueless about TZFM. Then I needed to find a way to explain it to you! It's way more simple than the hype suggests.

I have the luxury to use both my old and new Godspeeds and build a complex 12 HP VCO. If you get the urge to buy two, don't. They'll sum up to $600 which can get you furthrrrrr with a 259 style VCO. Instead, keep it tiny and add a cheap 4HP Airstreamer 4 (or expensive Instruo Cnoc) which can also do 1V/OCT and double as a modulating VCO. But most important, don't buy anything unless your absolutely sure it serves the (modular) music you love most. Don't end up with a tiny case and 101 modules.

Endorphin.es sneaked in a free 1U autopilot (even though I have the 3U and GodSpeed doesn't need it), so there's a small 'commercial break'. I consider Endorphin.es close modular friends so this video is inevitably a bit biased.
This was another reason to make a more general tiny case video that just 'happens' to contain a lot of Endorphin.es modules and sum up to a very powerful synth.

However, your personal journey starts at ModularGrid.
Have a safe and prosperous trip."
