"(testo italiano in basso) Here's some tweaking on the GRP A2, an Italian high-end analog synth module with a great sound. VCO1 can produce the usual waves, plus 'sharktooth' (a triangle/saw hybrid), and a saw/square hybrid with PWM; VCO2 has an all-analog version of the 'supersaw' concept, that can also be applied to triangle and 'sharktooth' waves. The filter is a two-pole multimode with lowpass, bandpass, highpass and notch - plus a lowpass/highpass in parallel stereo. The A2 offers flexible modulation routings via a series of selector knobs, without the use of patch cords. The signal path is totally analog, including the LFOs, envelopes and S&H. I couldn't resist adding a *very* slight bit of ambient effect. No other processing was used. Many thanks to Paolo Groppioni, the A2 designer, for entrusting me with the instrument to review.

A note on the patch: The Buchla (cloned) MARF is sending note and velocity (ie CV) data to the Synergy via a Kenton CV to MIDI converter - a very handy unit if you have a lot of analogue sequencers!
The Synergy is extremely flexible and you can set virtually any parameter to respond to velocity - and using the Kenton you can send any CV to modify the velocity over MIDI - something I am exploring at the moment
The Buchla 200 chimes really well with the Synergy. Don spent most of the late 70s and 80s exploring digital synthesis - starting out with hybrid systems (the 500 and 300 Series) and later fully digital systems (the Touche, 400 and 700 Series). The Synergy was developed at exactly the same time taking fully digital ideas to their logical extreme. It is a very capable system and the pairing with the 200 Series is sublime"

"After recording my last video, I had been frustrated that the parameter select buttons were difficult to press and weren't working right. I had replaced all of my friend's tact switches on the right board, but hadn't done the left board. So I tore it all apart again and replaced those switches. I wanted to test it after doing the repair, so that's kind of what you're watching as I go through it. Also, now I'm more familiar with the synth at this point.

"I often read on music forums 'why are hardware synthesizers stuck in the Stone Age?'. People are often unhappy with many things. People can like something and at the same time a couple of things can irritate people, if, for example, we are talking about hardware synthesizers. For me AN1X is perfect.
There are a lot of new music products available on the market now. But often they are the ones that don’t suit me in many ways. And I love my AN1X, it has never let me down or annoyed me. After modification, which greatly changed the sound for the better, it is a polyphonic analogue for me! On YouTube, crumbs remain from the original sound, but live my AN1X sounds so that it gives me goosebumps. If you look at the synthesis diagram on the case cover, you can understand from it that AN1X is simple! The entire diagram does not show its capabilities even at 20%. AN1X can do a lot better than my Eurorack modular! And and if you want that Eurorack modular to do what the AN1X can do, it must occupy half of the small room.

"What can a Yamaha AN1X synthesizer that is already 27 years old do? First of all, it can make me happy because it doesn’t show any signs that it will ever break down and stop working. He can also sound completely different and with his creative abilities generate crazy and very musical timbres. AN1X is the most musical synthesizer for my ears.
There is only one preset in this video. It consists of two different timbres (2 scenes or dual mode), which I controlled using DAW via two MIDI channels simultaneously. I recorded the sum of the two timbres into a wave file at one time. I normalized the amplitude to the maximum peak and added audio to my video.

"This is a simple sound demo that examines the Spectravox as an individual voice, focusing on the two VCO wave shapes and how they interact with the filter. The Spectravox is played via KB CV, CV OUT and Gate Out via the Matriarch (tutorial video by Moog below).
There's no vocoding or processing of external sounds going on here. Just the Spectravox "speaking for itself"--if that doesn't sound to corny.
I was really shocked at just how massive the pulse wave can sound in isolation for a single VCO. Likewise, it appears the Spectravox is one of the very few Moog semi-modular synths that features some sort of resonance compensation, because the bass doesn't completely drop out when cranked.
Because there's no full onboard ADSR (only decay), I still think the Spectravox functions better as an accompanying drone voice. But it's cool to hear it on its own.

"Following Thursday’s fun playing the Elmyra directly, I wanted to try triggering a sequence. I’m using the Polyend Poly 2 to split the midi from Keystep over 4 CV/gate outputs - hence the spaghetti of wires dangling from the big case. Atovproject’s excellent cLFO is modulating various parameters on Elmyra, keeping the drone evolving. Microcell and Cosmos for texture.
