Marius Leicht - Oddity 3 Improvisations

video upload by GForce Software

"in October 2022 we invited the supremely talented Marius Leicht to our studio to record a couple of iconic vintage synthesisers for his forthcoming project.

These sessions took place over several days (and nights) and when finished, we asked him to improvise with some Oddity 3 patches prior to its release. This was the first time Marius had seen or played Oddity 3 and any slider adjustments made on the keyboard controlled the new Macros feature.

Oberheim SEM vs GForce SEM - Is the 2022 software a match for the analog counterpart?

video upload by Friendly Noise

A comparison between the modern Oberheim SEM module and the GForce SEM software.

Raw recording. No effects or processing added.

Video sections:

00:11 Introduction
00:41 01 Sawtooth waves, closed tuned for phase cancellation
02:00 02 Square wave with long attack and release time
03:05 03 Square wave, PWM by LFO
03:37 04 Same as 03 but with two square waves, closed tuned for phase cancellation
04:34 05 Two sawtooth waves, low notes, 75% resonance
05:20 06 Same as 05 but with some VCO detuning to get a fatter sound
06:37 07 Square wave, PWM and LP/HP cutoff modulation by LFO
07:42 08 Two square waves, VCO2-PWM and LP/HP cutoff modulation by LFO
08:26 09 Square wave, HP cutoff modulation by LFO
09:21 10 Two square waves, PWM and HP modulation by LFO, fastest LFO rate
10:09 11 Square wave, BP filter, slow attack
11:10 12 Square wave, PWM by LFO at highest rate, BP filter
11:56 13 Saw wave, 100% resonance, BP cutoff modulated by LFO, slowest LFO rate
13:19 14 Square wave, BP filter, 100% resonance on GForce, less than 100% resonance on Oberheim
14:33 15 Same as 14, but Oberheim SEM filter gets into selfoscillation with 100% resonance
15:32 16 No VCO output, but still sound from the filter oscillation on the Oberheim SEM
15:55 17 Warm brassy single saw with no resonance
16:38 18 Same as 17 but with 100% resonance
17:16 19 Square wave with clean bright sound
17:58 20 Sync sound
18:50 21 A dark sound with LP filter and a little HP added for extra harmonics
19:59 22 Audio range filter modulation using VCO2 (Oberheim) or VCO3 (GForce), filter cutoff knob turned to the left.
20:53 23 Same as 23 but filter cutoff is now halfway open
21:51 24 Dark sound with VCO1 as fundamental and some VCO2 for added high frequencies
22:51 25 Clean sequence sound with PWM of VCO1 and some extra VCO2 in the high frequencies
23:34 26 Clean sequence with high keys
24:19 27 Last sequence with old school sound
25:20 28 My two cents

001:model D - a MIDI controller for Minimoog Model D VSTs Seeking Funding on Kickstarter

via Kickstarter

001:model D by ΔMIDI is a dedicated, physical MIDI controller for the world’s most popular synthesizer – Moog Minimoog Model D’s VST plugins.

001:model D allows you to take full control over any Minimoog-based VST available on the market. And thanks to being open-source, anyone can freely modify or tweak its behaviour. This makes the 001:model D a truly universal MIDI controller.

Why dedicated controller is better than knobs built into a MIDI keyboard?

Due to the fact that every knob and every switch is an accurate representation of what is happening on the screen, the exact representation of what sound synthesizer you are operating produces. After spending a while with the 001:model D, you won’t just be able to use ordinary knobs, you will discover a different level of control. It’s all because of that 1:1 layout.

Controls

21 analogue potentiometers
6 6-stage knobs
15 toggle switches
2 lever switches
3 LED indicators
44 physical controls in total.

Sync button for instant settings transfer.

Map button for changing MIDI mapping on the fly.

Class-compliant MIDI-USB protocol implementation
Open-source hardware†
Eurorack-compatible design‡
Black and white finish, gold lettering with matched knob and USB cable color‡
Hackable, based on Arduino® platform
Mechanical

Made from three layers of fibreglass reinforced laminate with an additional layer of sheet aluminium. All CNC-machined.
Dimensions: 425 mm x 110 mm x 48 mm (16.75″ x 4.3″ x 1.9″)
Weight: 1100 g (2.4 lbs).
†001:model D will become fully open-source after Kickstarter Campaign

‡Eurorack model and colour options availability depends on Stretch Goal completion

But hey, there’s more!

After completing the main goal - collecting funds to start the 001:model D production, we have Stretch Goals – for making a white 001:model D, also with gold plated lettering; and something really special - a Eurorack compatible model.

Tested & compatible with

Arturia Mini V
Native Instruments Monark
UAD Minimoog®
GForce MINIMONSTA®

Streetly Tapes for M-Tron Pro - Violins & Vox (No Talking)

video upload by GForce Software

"Violins & Vox

Courtesy of Tron-meister, Nigel Hopkins, here's a no-talking, audio demo run-through of the Streetly Violins & Vox tapebanks, with a few patches thrown in for good measure.

As with all other Streetly Tape Volumes, Violin & Vox provides yet more sonic superfood for your M-Tron Pro, via a set of 25 tapebanks, this time focussing on the strong and varied vocal performances of Caitlin Downie and the virtuoso violin voicings of Claire Lindley.

As with all Streetly Tapes Volumes, this pack has been lovingly given the Streetly Skellotron treatment for that authentic sound of EMI tape wearing down playback heads.

Although these are recent recordings, thanks to the character introduced by the Skellotron processing, they have all the tron character you know and love, and sit perfectly alongside classic mellotron strings and choir recordings.

The Strangest Mellotron Library Ever?

video upload by HAINBACH

"I love the Mellotron. Playing this 1960s tape sampler for the first time 15 years ago was mesmerizing - the feel of all those motors spinning under your fingers is magical. Now I collaborated with Gforce Software to create my own Mellotron library, and it is rather odd. I sampled all my favorite and rare synths, some broken, some just strange on their own, and acoustic and electro-acoustic instruments, ran them through mountains of even stranger equipment and out came the Hainbach Expansion Pack. https://www.gforcesoftware.com/produc...

From Japanese poetry trainers to soviet synths, broken Italian organs to french pianos, American test equipment and German Kalimba guitars, there is a lot to keep you playing on and on. It is like being in the studio with me, minus the coffee and ceaseless anecdotes."

OB-E Oberheim 8 Voice - GForce Software Overview

video upload by sonicstate

"Our friends over at GForce Software sure take their time over their instruments, so its surprising that the rate of release this year has been positively light-speed compared to previous years. Just a couple of weeks back the OB-E V2 was released, which adds PC support and is M1 silicon native, as well as new features including Drum Mode, Vintage control and other tweaks."

Tom Oberheim on GForce OB-E

video upload by GForce Software

Also see Bright Sparks - Tom Oberheim

"'I was pretty amazed by OB-E, it was pretty damn close right out of the shoot. It was “wow!'. I like listening to that." Tom Oberheim.

In 2021, during the release of OB-E®, we were contacted by Marcus Ryle on behalf of Tom Oberheim. Marcus is a co-founder of Line 6® but also a former Oberheim Developer who contributed to the OB-Xa, DSX, DMX, OB-8, Xpander and Matrix 12. Via Marcus, OB-E had found its way to the ears of Tom Oberheim and they were both impressed enough to suggest a collaboration to refine the instrument and release an update carrying their full endorsement.

Working under the guidance of Tom and Marcus, we further enhanced OB-E, Refining the Detune feature and adding a new Vintage knob, which dials in more realistic musical inaccuracies in line with the original instrument for a truly authentic 8-Voice experience.

The 8-Voice is not simply eight identical SEMs put together. The interaction of those 8 independent, and slightly different Synthesizer Expander Modules, plays a major role in making the 8-Voice’s sound special and the injection of these authentic inaccuracies into each of the eight SEMs in OB-E takes it to another level.

But don't listen to us - listen to two of our heroes, and bonafide industry legends, talk about their opinion of OB-E.

OB-E Version 2 Enhancements

video upload by GForce Software

"The latest version of OB-E is the first ever software instrument to be endorsed by synthesizer pioneer, Tom Oberheim. It is also PC compatible and both Mac & PC versions contain several enhancements developed in collaboration with Tom that make it even closer to the original. As if that's not cool enough, we've also added several new features including a comprehensive Reverb Effect and a Drum Mode. This video focusses on what's new.

00:08 - Introduction.
00:27 - Interface Resizing.
00:43 - Vintage Knob & Detune Knob.
02:11 - A=440 Tone.
02:26 - Shift = Fine Adjustment.

Bright Sparks - Tom Oberheim

video upload by GForce Software

"After the 2015 release of our Bright Sparks Documentary & Album collaboration with I Monster, while we were elated at the critical acclaim the project received, we always felt it would have been enriched by the inclusion of one person in particular, Tom Oberheim.

On the instrumental version of the Bright Sparks album, I Monster had created a bonus track, Beneath The Planet Of The Oberheim and while we'd reached out to Tom Oberheim and asked him to appear in the accompanying documentary, for various reasons it wasn't possible.

Then in Feb 2021, after the release of our OB-E 8-Voice emulation, we got the chance to talk with Tom whereupon our second question was 'Can we persuade you to be filmed for a new Bright Sparks Chapter?'

Tom agreed and while covid put our plans on hold temporarily, we carried on communicating, and in October 2021 we sat at the UK end of a zoom call while cameraman Sam Graydon filmed Tom in the comfort of his California home. Additionally, ex-Oberheim engineer (and industry icon), Marcus Ryle, joined us from his studio and imparted his experience of working at Oberheim in the 80s and how, over 30 years later, he was pivotal in Tom regaining the use of his name and logo.

The result is a new Bright Sparks chapter dedicated to Tom Oberheim. A fascinating journey through the life and career of one of the most revered synthesiser pioneers, whose work has graced the tracks of everyone from Joe Zawinul to Stevie Wonder, Lyle Mays, Jam and Lewis and countless others.

M-Tron mk II - Celebrating the Mellotron

video upload by Marius Leicht

See GForce Software Introduces the M-Tron MkII for details on the new release.

GForce Software Introduces the M-Tron MkII

video upload by GForce Software

"The GForce M-Tron MkII is a celebration of the insanely rare and highly coveted original dual manual ’trons, namely the Mellotron® MkI/MkII and Chamberlin® Musicmaster. M-Tron MkII is a new and distinct product from M-Tron Pro, yet part of the family.

Originally conceived as the ultimate Home Entertainment Console, the UK made 1963 MkI/MkII was a dual manual tape based instrument where the left manual’s 35 notes replayed a combination of 18 Rhythms and Accompaniments (66 on the GForce M-Tron MkII *) and the right manual (also 35 notes) replayed 18 lead sounds (66 on M-Tron MkII *).

M-Tron MkII was designed specially for producers and composers who want access to the evocative tones of the original dual manual Chamberlin®, Mellotron® MkI & MkII instruments with special emphasis on the Rhythms and Accompaniments which capture a moment in time between the 1950’s and late 1960’s.

If you are looking for a truly authentic MkII dose of nostalgia and host sync potential, you’ve found it."
